nsv - thinking like a thin person
donnabarney posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was with another family on saturday. we were a function together. I was with my mom, and then put on my sun glasses and followed them. I called out to my friend to wait for me. her husband said "who is the skinning women". I felt so great. I was heavy for 15 years and thanks to my band and my trainer at the gym I am only 20-30 pounds and from my goal in 7 months. I think that having a trainer if you can afford it, (I don't eat out any more and save that money for my trainer), has been the best thing that has happened to me. I'm also duing the grouse grind on saturday, again for the 5th weekend in a row with my trainer and my kids. its 2900 stairs up the mountain, and amost 2 miles straight up and takes me 1 hour and 20 min. I'm still having a problem with thinking that I am still obese, and wonder who that person in the mirror is. I'm hoping that by the one year I can work around that. anyway just wanted to let someone know how it is going. -
This morning I went to Have my license renewed, it was pretty awesome! They lady who helped me and took my pic just kept going on and on about how my new pic was sooo pretty and whatnot and how I looked like a different person. Let me just say I love my new pic alot more lol! This has been my favorite NSV!

NSV for me Saturday! My Mom and I went to Kohl's to look at clothes for her. She was wanting some capri pants. I told her I bought some on sale there in size 14 petite. She said that is the same size she wears. I took her over to the petite department and showed her the capris. She took two pair in the dressing room to try on. She came out and said they are too small I need the non-petite. """I am officially smaller then my mom!""" WooHoo!

I love 1/2 price day at value village!!!!
fern posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Yesterday( here in Canada) was 1/2 price day on clothing. I was determined to go as I no longer can wear ANY of my old clothing and I don't have much $ to get new clothes. I am a head baker at a bakery and had a bread competition yesterday, so I started work at 1230 in the morning and did a 17 HOUR DAY!!!! Can we say exhausted???? Talk about an NSV too cause I did it without consuming boat loads of sugar (like I used to have to) just to make it thru the day!!! Anyways, as soon as I was done, I went to 2 VV's and got 2 pairs of jeans, 2 casual dress pants, 6 shirts, and a light zip-up hoodie for 45 BUCKS!!! Yahoo!!!! AND I bought a size 14 jeans that I can get on ( but not go out in yet)!!!! I haven't worn a size 14 in about 10+ years!!! Exhausted from yesterday's marathon work day, but here I am, posting from the sauna at the gum, after having such an intense lower body weights day that my legs are still vibrating ; ) MAN do I love the sleeve! And I love the support I get here! Thanks everyone!!! Off to work I go again...... -

When I was first Banded 10/31/06. I was so happy that I spread the word, because I was know 1/2 the size, and loving it. They came out in Groves ! Can't you do it yourself ? Why do you have to have Surgery, don't you have any willpower ? I heard it all. I was sorry that I opened my mouth, because of the peoples ignorance about the band. Mostly these were people that I worked with. and loved the fact that I started to looked so good, (SO THEY SAID) but then would stick the knife in my back. So this time around, I told no one ! It's none of their business how I live, and what I do. People are just amazed at the weight loss, and approve it. So they see me in stores every now and then, and see the difference, at then compared to the last time they seen me. So a lot of NSV's going on by the General Public, and Friends. I am Happy when I see the Cloths size change. That does it for me. I would say don't worry about it, because they really don't know what they are talking about. Your the one that has to tie those shoes (never will forget that..) So you know what must be done. They will get use to it, and you will also find out who your friends are. Shirley. -
Now that is a wonderful NSV!!!! Pants feeling comphy and $$ to boot!!

In the past year, my cholesterol has dropped 34 points, my triglycerides plunged a whopping 114 points, my blood sugar dropped 6 points, and my blood pressure is 120/75. I got rid of 10 pounds of fat in the past 3 months and 2 inches are GONE from my waist. My pants that were once my sausage pants (you know, so tight basically like sausage casings for your thighs) are loose and comfortable. My shirts are getting baggy and my bra doesn't fill up like it used to. I am loving my lap band

Really? NSV already? So I've been stuggling with the Protein powders, but I think I've got that whipped with the Isopure RTD. However, my husband made a comment about my jeans getting baggie last night so I thought tonight I might check my measurements since I hadn't checked them in 2-weeks Here goes. Neck 17 - 16-3/4 Waist 51 - 50 Hips 55 - 47...yeah, I lost 7 inches off my hips! So, with these numbers I decided to see if I could get into my old size 22 100% cotton Levis that I would not get rid of for the last 3 years. YEAH BABY! They fit!!!! With that great feeling I pulled a pair of 18's my sister-in-law gave me. First, I could never get them over my thighs. Not tonight! They are up and although I cannot button them, I was able to get them all the way on! I'm feeling frogy! :-) Oh, and down 8-lbs in 7-days. Woo Hoo!!!

Questions to ask Surgeon
thinoneday replied to Bonnielass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bonnielass, I did just what Tiff explained and my surgeon was really pleased to know that I was actually asking those questions. . .he was right in there like a dirty shirt! He was honest about it, especially when I asked how successful he has been as a surgeon with the sleeve procedure. . . he said, "it's a fairly new procedure, I have done more bands, and only about 200 sleeves, but I have never had a leak" So that was comforting, he also told me that I would be in hospital overnight for sure, get a leak test done, and if there was one he would do an oversew to correct it. . . he told me I didn't need a preop diet cause my BMI wasn't high enough! Talk about a NSV!!! I told him i would rather do a pre-op diet however, he must of thought I was nuts, but he said, sure that will make my job alot easier! he was so pleasant and courteous. I had a good feeling with him too. . . so I trust him. . even though I know that I'm just another dollar sign walking around! hehehehe -
So i finally ended my first stall. It lasted about 3 weeks, which i hear is pretty normal, but boy were those 3 weeks frustrating! I was convinced i wasn't going to lose anymore weight, even though common sense told me otherwise. But this morning i decided to try on my pre-pregnancy pants (my son is 6), and they FIT! just a tad snug in the waist but omg! I'm soo happy! This was my first mini goal, and i can't believe I've reached it! I couldn't be happier today!!

In less then 3 hours I leave for the hospital. I was excited to see I lost exactly 20lbs in 2 weeks on the pre-op diet. I'm not super nervous, but a little concerned that I am making the right long term decision. I don't want to regret this 20 years from now, but I suppose there's no way of knowing that today. I am confident that if I don't do something I will go back to my gluttonous ways. Even though I am healthy in every other way, but obesity, my previous way of eating and drinking was a fast path to many future health issues, social issues (withdrawal from others, activities and work), and most likely a pre-mature death. I'm keeping the long term call in focus, keeping my eye on the prize and pushing forward... I had a pre-op NSV happen 2 days ago: We are planning a trip to Spain in October for my 5 year wedding anniversary and this is the first time in my entire life where the thought of the airplane ride, the chairs, the clothes, etc...are not even a nervous thought in my mind.... The weight of those worries used to burden me and take away from my complete enjoyment in life. I'm reminding myself how those worries will be gone soon and that is what I am using as my anchor today to keep me very calm, cool and collected this morning.... Talk to everyone on Friday, when I'm back home!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all the great support!!!

Today I had a huge NSV! I went to Talbots to get some spring clothing...for the last 12 years I've had to go to the 'Women's Section' and was wearing up to a size 20. Today I realized that the women's section was not working for me, and I went to the regular section. I tried on a size 14 dress, and to my utter surprise, it was loose! I really thought I was trying it on just to see how much longer it would be before I might fit in it! After that, I went to Ann Taylor and tried on several pairs of size 14 pants! I didn't buy anything yet, but will be shopping again tomorrow!

I was folding my laundry today (right out of the dryer -- that's an NSV all on it's own) and every item I pulled out was either yoga pants or a t-shirt. This isn't anything new from my fat days until I realized that I didn't wear these clothes all week because they were comfortable and all I felt like wearing, but because I SWEATED IN THEM every single day this week!! I am no longer wearing my exercise clothes to hold down the couch but to... EXERCISE!!!!!!! And while I am wasting your time, I will throw out that I hiked over 10 miles today, logging 25k+ steps on my fitbit AND I am doing a Pretty Muddy 5k Obstacle course in the morning. AND I LIKE IT!!

would you recommend?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to dbatche's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I recommend it. Yes, I would do it all over again. My comorbidities are lessened or completely gone, my self-esteem is very good, I feel great, I have had more NSVs then I can shake a stick at, I am adding years to my life, etc., etc. My only regret was not having a VSG sooner. Make the best educated decision on the procedure that is correct for you. Research as much as you can, attend a WLS seminar, WLS support groups and have your PCP, surgeon and any specialists you may be seeing all on board. Congratulations. -
Yikes! It's finally here!
ladybug on a mission replied to CSE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far, so good! I am really surprised that I am not hungry! And even though I am not banded yet, I had the best NSV on Monday. I had an extremely stressful day and that is when I usually turn to food, but I didn't!!! I was so proud of myself! Take care and keep updating! -
