You look GORGEOUS! The shoes really set off your stunning outfit. Such pretty hair, skin tone and those legs! And, do I see a little lamb chop there with mint jelly? One of my favorite dishes. Haven't tried yet since post sleeve. Yummy. ;]

Thank you. (If that message is for me😊)None of it is “easy”. Mental changing was the hardest part and I’m still a work in progress on that. I do weigh everyday in the morning. Keeps me in check. In July I’ll be two years out. No regrets what so ever. The first year is what some call the honey moon period. Use it to your advantage. Excersise as soon as you can. I did not do as much excersising as I could have and I think that if I had done that it would have helped the skin not be as loose. I do excersise but I wish looking back I had started as soon as I got the green light to do so. Good luck!! you will be successful!!!

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

So, this morning I hopped on the scaled and I weighed 216! Thats's 27 pounds lost in 34 days and I'm absolutely thrilled. At my age (57), menopause, and a totally jacked-up metabolism from years of dieting, I was prepared for my weight loss to be much slower. I was told after the first month most people lose 8-10 pounds a month, so if I lose 8 a month I would be ecstatic! Also, the surgeon told me that losing slower is better for skin elasticity issues. I've decided to set mini goals. Do these goals sound reasonable? Do you have goals time wise to reach your final goal? April 1: 208 May 1: 200 June 1: 192 July 1: 184 Aug 1: 176 Sep. 1: 168 Oct 1: 160- GOAL!!!!

    Post op diet

Hi everyone. My surgery date is 02-20-20. I liked the date. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m on protein shakes and clear liquids and get my staples out next Thursday, so I’m right there with you all. Anyway, I had the RNY back before it was cool or before much research had been done about it—nearly 14 years ago. It was amazingly successful. I was on my treadmill in 18 hours. I went from 261 to 155 after a tummy tuck (the extra skin gets gross). But over time, I slowly was able to tolerate anything I wanted, and ultimately ended up back at 267. So I was approved for a revision for DS (duodenal switch) surgery. This experience was not like the last quick laparoscopic one. Last Thursday I came out of the OR with a 13” incision down my abdomen recovery has been awful. I’m in no rush to move onto soft foods, because I remember being at the 5 year mark and unable to lose weight when I wanted to for the first time. My Dr. told me to go back to the post-op Diet for a month and it really worked. Then I tried it at the 10 year mark and it didn’t do anything. So as much as it sucks having family around you able to consume everything, just know that your 1-month weigh-in is going to blow your socks off unlike anything you have experienced, so my advice is to enjoy the journey. The longer you can tolerate the liquids, the faster your initial weight loss will be. And although you will lose a lot of weight throughout the first year, you will never lose as rapidly as you will during the first 30 days post-op. And you only get one chance at that. So, as hard as it may seem some days, be patient and don’t rush this opportunity. Congratulations to everyone. Here’s to a new and improved life!
  6. I’m going in tomorrow. Does anyone have suggestions or tips for my bag? I’ll be in for 2 nights. Big loose pj pants or yoga pants? Gas x? Also how soon could you shower? Thanks in advance for your advise!

    How do you take meds?

In the morning I take my antacid pill, 1 multi, 1 B12, 1 iron tab, a hair/skin/nails silica tab, a collagen gummy, and most days a hayfever tab as well. Lunchtime I take a calcium, and another gummy collagen. Before bed I take another multi, another silica tab and collagen gummy. It takes around half an hour in the morning t get all the pills down. I then wait half an hour and eat breakfast.

    Thermage anyone?

After about 12 weekly treatments & another couple of monthly Radio Frequency treatments, I think I can confidently say yes, I can see an improvement. 🎉🎉🎉 The marionette lines on my left side have reduced quite a bit. They’re a shadow of what they were. The right side has lessened but are still very visible. Though this side was far worse than the left. The finer lines under my chin have reduced dramatically too. The unexpected improvement has been the horizontal creases which ran around my neck. I can hardly see them now. (Though they are still noticeable on the side of my neck.) Mind you I also take silica & collagen several times a week as well. So I could be finally seeing the effects of the collagen in my skin being stimulated from a combination of RF & the silica & collagen.

    Saggy skin

Not really. That is the truth. Moisture is always good advice but nothing will stop your skin from sagging. Who would be a lot better I think if people could just except that is what it’s going to be and either resign themselves to it or understand they will need surgery. I lost 100 lb by eating super healthy and working out a LOT and I did it slowly (as that is the only way it comes off after 50 when you have PCOS and thyroiditis!) - and I had skin of my stomach, arms and upper thighs that was bad and it was very crepe-like most everywhere else. I decided to do my stomach (11 lbs of skin) and my arms O6 lbs) and as for my thighs I don’t wear pants that show it if at all possible. this is a before and after of my arms - the plastic surgeon said “well you got all the fat out of there!’ 😂
  10. @Provost First of all congratulations on your decision to literally change your life and health status.. I'm very sorry to hear your wife is not as supportive as you would like her to be. However you must do this for YOU . More than likely as she sees your steadfastness without resentment or anger towards her she will come around. Just continue to be nice, smile and do what you have to do.. It may take some time but just hang in there and whatever you do, Do NOT host a pity party . just follow the surgeon and nutritionist instructions to the letter and you will have excellent results... Men lose so much faster and astonishing than women. Max out with the protein requirements and water intake . Worry about the other skin issues when and if the time comes.. Save some money in the next year or so just in case and if not then knock yourself out with a total new wardrobe /car . lol .Good luck and God speed to a quick recovery in your fast approaching surgery...… keep in touch here on the forum....

    60" waist to 32" photo

I don't know if this is too personal (I am scheduled for my surgery in a couple weeks). Did you have to get follow up plastic surgery for excess skin? I am wondering if I need to plan on it, I started a little over 350lbs and hopefully drop 100-150lbs range.
  12. Hi Everyone and Surgery Buddies, Stats: Sleeved 12/23/19 HW205, SW199, CW 171. #31lost and 19inches overall. 🙂 A bit over 2 mos out and doing ok. No issues with meds/vitamins. Do have issues with heartburn from time to time but Tums helps. Down 2 pants and shirt sizes and appreciate the nsvs like being comfortable in my clothes, skin and not being out of breath and tired all the time! I can exercise now and do walking 3 miles a day and I do flights of stairs 1-2 times a day at work. No gym yet. I'm still struggling with eating real food and trying to lose weight. I do struggle with getting over 55oz of liquids in daily. Just not enough time in the day to get it all in, as I can get really full just off liquids. I usually have coffee with vanilla protein shake for creamer for breakfast and 2oz of protein yogurt. Lunch is protein shake or on occasion 1-2oz of meat and cheese, refried beans, tuna etc. Dinner is 4oz of meat and veggies. Have found my downfall is after dinner snacking. Hubby encourages it since he does and its bad for us both. I've had to learn to deal with stress and emotional eating in different ways. I now have a mantra I say to myself "I am worth being healthy, xyz is not my issue, not worth sabotaging my happiness and wls journey". Then I get out of the kitchen and find something else to occupy my time. Thank goodness my dog never tires of walks or playtime. 🙂🐶 I wish everyone the best and much success on the continued wls journey!

    3 weeks in!

I have been told the faster you lose weight the more saggy skin you can have. So this might be a good thing and you have much if any sagging. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
  14. Your fat requirements are going to be very different than mine as an RNY. I'd really want your RD or doc to tell me what ratios they want for their DS patients. I know that your protein reqs are also way diff than mine. For mine and most VSGs the loose rule of thumb for protein is 1g protein per every 10 calories. So if you have ideally a recipe with 160cals, it needs to have a minimum of 16 g protein to be a good protein bargain for the buck. Then beyond that the only rule they gave is no more than 5g sugar per serving/meal. Any other rule was individual from them and based on status and how we were doing with our diet, diet satisfaction, and if we were losing and/or maintaining and progressing well. I had to be very low fat and low carb/low cal to lose. So I'm a big outlier.

    3 weeks in!

I'm almost 5 weeks out of RNY and "only" down 20. I am totally happy with this number. I'd rather lose slower and have my body recalibrate when needed and give my skin and nutrition what it needs - time to adjust. Also, I hit a stall at 3 weeks post op and it was when I saw the most dramatic changes in my appearance (neck and stomach) without even a pound down. Have you tried weekly pics or measuring? I think this will help you see that your body IS working and losing during the stalls, maybe just not on the scale. Here is a pic from week 3 to week 4 when I lost 0 pounds. No goal weight?

Well I did but....my surgeon didn't. I had to kind of "force" him to give me a number lol. He FINALLY said he'd be happy if I reached low 180's but that low 170's would be even better. My personal happy range is 145-165 or a loose fitting size 8 (or Medium) whichever comes first :).

    Gastric Bypass for Senior Citizen

I will still be 61 when I have my RNY March 17th, just a few days before my birthday. The skin and boobies issues are things I'm not looking forward to though...

    Saggy skin

it's also going to depend on where you carry your weight. My arms were never that big, so I didn't have much sag there (although I had them contoured ANYWAY). Most of my fat was in my abdomen, so I had a lot of excess skin there. I didn't have much in my thighs, so I never had those done. I suppose if I were young enough to wear mini skirts and short shorts, I would have had those done as well since they look kind of wrinkly, but there's not much in the way of hanging skin there. It's not noticeable even under tight pants.
  19. Hello All! Hope all is well, So I had the VSG is TJ Mexico in 2016. I lost over 100 pounds. I have gained 70 back. So I went back to my original surgeon in TJ and he did a RYN bypass...or so I think I did. I had more restriction before I had the revision. I am at a loss. I wander if they did anything at all, I mean I am sore from the surgery and I feel like I had surgery but I feel hungry, don't really feel full. How am I suppose to loose this weight??? If I had to do it all on my own than what was the point of the surgery? Sorry y'all I am just venting and really worried. Can anyone share their input?
  20. Poo-pourri has worked wonders but for me the oil slicks that sometimes appear are a real annoyance more when i'm out than at home when I can clean up after myself. My gas is something my wife and I are both getting used to. I seemed to have trained my body to not have to fart while at work - but I feel bad for those I crop dust on the streets of NYC as soon as I leave the office. Night time is really when all hell breaks loose. The oil slick doesn't happen nearly as often but it's obviously totally dependent on what I eat, but the gas is always bad.

    Saggy skin

I don't know how much you can actually do - with 100 lbs to lose, you're probably going to have some. If you're young, you'll have more elasticity than someone's who's old so you may fare a bit better, but you'll still likely have some. Some people say lifting weights can help a bit, too. The woman I've been co-presenting with to the pre-op groups for the last three years started about where you are. She said she has some saggy skin, but I can't tell at all (she said it's on her abdomen and her thighs) - so it may be pretty easy to hide (mine was, and I lost over 200 lbs, so I had quite a bit of it - but no one knew it was there besides me)

    Dry/Scaly Skin?

I have dry skin also. I thought as long as I stay hydrated I would be okay. Part of it could be the dry indoors that we experience in winter. I have looked at collagen also, but wonder about calories?

    Dry/Scaly Skin?

I have been putting Bulletproof collagen powder in my coffee every day for about 6 months. I was skeptical about it helping my dry, flaky. crepey old lady skin but it has really helped a great deal. I still use Cetaphil daily but I see a huge difference in the appearance and feel of my skin. Best price I have found is at Sams.
