Can I have cottage cheese? I kind of feel sickly from no food. I really don't feel hungry yet I feel light headed, dizzy and a little nauscious. I am having a little craving for cottage cheese but I know I shouldn't yet it is soft enough. Not a whole lot different than the yogurt or jello? Or is it. HELP
-
Just put the cottage cheese into a blender or food processor. I'm 4 days out (banded 2/3) and I'm beginning to get kind of hungry myself. Do you think some soft-serve low fat frozen yogurt would be ok, or am I kidding myself and it's just a slippery slope? Thanks, Sheila

Hi Donna, Once again - you and I are neck and neck. I am really curious about how much you and everyone else who has done this before has eaten. What will you have for breakfast? lunch? dinner? I also bought Egg Whites only to make scrambled eggs in the microwave. There are approved because they are similar in protein, fat (none) and calories as say - yogurt or jello. I weighed myself this morning and plan on weighing myself every day! It will be hard enough fighting the food demons, I will give in to my scale obsession! :faint: I am rooting for you!!! Susan

Anything you would go back and do before surgery if you had a chance to do it over?
juliegeraci replied to cathyc113's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would stock up on all the foods you will need. I had plenty of jello, popsicles, yogurt, mash potatoes, creamy soups, etc. I also made sure I had all the drug orders filled and GasX strips. Good luck. -
Holy Bariatric Batman, that is tasty!

It amazes me how everyone is given different guidelines....for me I was given for weeks 1-3 I'm allowed...geek yogurt, applesauce, sf pudding, sf jello, sf popsicles, scrambled eggs, peanut butter, oatmeal (thinned out), cream of wheat, refriedbeans, melted cheese, puréed meats, and strained soups, mashed potatoes...I'm sure I'm missing something but is that strange? -
Please tell me I’m not the only one!

Each plan is different. Not all plans require soups to be strained. Mine plan for instance was full liquids once discharged from the hospital. The rule was anything that would go through a straw. So I made soup, pureed, but did not strain. I was also allowed yogurt, pudding, and other very soft foods during the liquid stage. So just because your surgeon requires this program does not mean that others will stress their stomachs or threaten the "seal". As long as everyone follows their surgeons plan, it's all good. -
My Md had guidelines that I could only eat strained creamed soups and liquids the first 1-2 weeks. That included yogurt, protein shakes 2 days after surgery and then cottage cheese and refined beans began at week 2/3. However it is hard to drink or eat much initially. I used a shot glass to get 2 ounces at a time and a timer so every 15 minutes I would drink 2 ounces. Once I was on soft foods like 1 egg or tuna it initially took 45 minutes to eat that then a week or so later 30 minutes, then eventually 20 minutes etc. Food wasn't appealing and after a few bites I felt like I just ate a Thanksgiving dinner. It wasn't painful but just that blah I'm done feeling. I think around 3/4 months I could drink a 11 oz. protein shake in 30-45 minutes, eat a 5oz cup of yogurt or 1 egg in 20 minutes but not much more in one sitting. Suddenly at 6 months I could comfortably eat about a half cup of food total if some of it was soft. Not a half cup of chicken, but a 1/4 cup of protein and a 1/4 cup of soft veggies. Now at 9 months sometimes I can eat almost a cup in one sitting in a normal amount of time like 10-15 minutes but usually it's closer to 1/2 to 3/4. I don't feel deprived or over full.

Help! I Need To Drop 10Lbs!
pbmls223 replied to kwood803's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I followed my pre-op diet from my doctor's office. 3 - 8 oz Protein shakes a day, 1 non-fat yogurt, 1/2 cup of fruit, 1 lean cuisine or similar and 1 cup of salad with 1 tbsp of lite dressing. Example: 8 am - Protein shake 10 am - yogurt 12 pm - protein shake 2 pm - 1/2 cup of fruit (if using canned fruit, make sure it is in lite syrup) 4 pm - protein shake 7 pm - lean cuisine and 1 cup of salad w/1 tbsp of lite dressing What is your doctor recommending? Or is he just saying lose weight? -
I eat Chobani Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and lots of tuna to get my protein. Have you tried Unjury chicken soup flavor protein powder? It tastes like warm chicken broth to me. You can get a sample pack to try it would at least get you through the days after a fill.

Is 210 lbs too small for gastric sleeve? Running out of patience and time.
lviv replied to lviv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, my dad and my husband both regained some of the weight back (Dad gained about 60 lbs over the past few years, and husband gained back 15 lbs over the last year) because unlike me, they didn't feel the need to watch what they ate cuz they had the stomachs of hamsters for so long. And yet somehow that still manages to piss me off: "These mothafuckas get to eat whatever they want, and they still look like Sally Struthers should be raising money for them. And I am eating yogurt for lunch and LOOKING LIKE SALLY STRUTHERS!" :-P -
I didn't puree anything. I couldn't think of anything grosser. I've stuck with foods close to puree: protein drinks, yogurt, fortified pudding, ect. Once I got to other foods, I just took very small bites and chewed really well. That included scrambled eggs. Personally, I'd rather chew to pureed consistency, rather than drinking a "food shake." My gag reflex would take over otherwise. That's just my opinion though, so that and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Started purée diet today. Help!
BLERDgirl replied to alyssadietrch's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I sometimes do a half a tsp of plain greek yogurt. -
Thank you for the advice!! What kind of real butter do you use? Country crock? I am good about drinking water and staying away from pop. So far I have been eating Greek yogurt for breakfast, chicken, brusselsprouts and red potatoes for lunch and chicken and veggies for dinner. I am doing ok but last night I wanted to cave so badly. I didn't, but I almost did!! I'm just trying to get through two weeks with out cheating because I feel like if I cheat early on I will have less success.

Have you tried making smoothies with Protein powder? I dont like it by its self but some skim milk, 1 scoop of body fortress vanilla and some frozen fruit. I put it in my magic bullet. I also eat Quaker oatmeal with cranberry and almonds that has a nice chunk of protein in it. Greek yogurt, Canteloupe with cottage cheese. Soft scrambled eggs. Tofu sauteed with some peppers and onions. You can buy sugar free syrups also and make protein smoothies. The possibilities are endless

I have been meaning to do just this! I used a baby spoon right after surgery for my yogurts and puddings and it really helped. I have been using a salad plate for my dinner plate and that also helps, but I'm heading to walmart after work for baby silverware!
-
Never tried it. But there are a few light Greek yogurts out there found in any store (like Light & Fit) that have the same calories and grams of Protein.

I've had this before It's good - the only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have any Probiotics. That's primarily why I eat yogurt since it helps with digestion and keeping things balanced in the lady garden. But, since it doesn't have live cultures, it doesn't have that tang some people dislike about yogurt so that could be a plus for folks averse to the flavor!

Vitamins Bother My Gastric Sleeve
mommyofLDS replied to CJinMichigan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thankfully I haven't had much issues with it, but a few of the people at my 6 month post-op were having some problems. The NUT suggested that they mash up the vitamin into a powder and then mix it with something easy to eat, like a bit of yogurt or applesauce. Don't know if it works or not, but seems like a good idea, and worth a try. Good luck -
I have already advanced to soft foods. I am pretty much eating solids, just chewing them up really well. I start my day out with a protein shake or bar (if the bar I chew chew chew!), I can have things like chicken salad and crackers for lunch and dinner. I still eat soup, chili, cottage cheese, and greek yogurt. I have added salmon, string cheese, mashed potatoes, refried beans (sometimes I eat the insides of a bean and cheese burrito). I have not allowed myself to try much meat yet, no beef at all, and no raw veggies still. Occasionally I will throw a handfull of berries in my smoothies. I have not been sick once since my surgery, no throwing up at all. My sleeve seems to be handling the solids very well.

Protein Shake Ideas..Lets mix it up!!!

[quote= Tastes like creamsickle =================== 1 6 oz plain yogurt 6 oz orange juice vanilla Protein Powder 2-4 splenda packets (optional) =================== Thank you sooooooooooo much this was so darn good!!!! -
When you have surgery you're told eat your Proteins first, then fruit & veggie then carbs. I have found anytime anyone is on a portein based diet has stinky breath. Happened to me when I was doing the Atkins diet and same with my friends on that diet. Keeping gum and/or mints with you helps. It just hides it a bit anyway because the bad breath is coming from what's sitting in your stomach. Alot of people make the mistake of thinking it's all in your teeth in gums...that's part of it but, it's more of whats in your tummy. Fortunately there are plenty of very strong sugar free mints and gums out there to give us a hand with this. When i'm finally banded I'm going to give the yogurt a shot too. Thanks for that tip!
