When you can take pills again?

Right away - the day after surgery I was cleared to take all my meds including capsules and large pills.. but since I have meds for mental health (which is a cocktail of three) plus my BC plus the pain meds I felt like I had had a full meal once I got all of them down but I was determined not to need liquids lol
  2. I can do 16jul at 200 pm at fed way Panera. Looking forward!
  3. Mid-afternoon in Fed Way works fine for me - I'm excited to meet you guys! I have a slight preference for Panera because they likely have wifi, so my teen could hang in a rear booth with her Kindle. And it might be nice if there's a walking trail nearby for those who feel adventurous afterwards. But really, it's all good. I'm bizarrely happy that we're going to a restaurant. This won't be easy for me, so I'm glad I'll be with people who "get it"!

    Bariatric products v. Whole foods

I use 1 premier protein vanilla shake as cream in my coffee every morning. Have 1 protein bar as my afternoon snack at work each weekday. Otherwise I eat only whole foods. Grass fed beef and dairy (dubliner cheese is), I eat about 75-80% of my food is homemade. I eat out rarely and it's usually when I'm traveling. Free range organic chicken etc. And yes it is more expensive but still so much cheaper than what I used to spend eating out and/or on junk food.
  5. Really? Cause my dr said no more bread, Pasta, or rice ever! Forever is a long time. That has me more scared then the actual surgery pain. Do you enjoy food like you did before just in smaller portions? Cause I'm afraid eating for me will always have to be a challenge from here on out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Question is can you or should you? I can easily eat pasta and bread but don't eat it since I am still in weight loss mode. But my sleeve is fine with it. Rice I really can't tolerate.I understand I can't go crazy with it. But when the put the word forever on it it scared me. I don't plan on eating it a lot because I know it is bad for you. I'd still just like to know that way down the road I could have a couple bites of pasta salad or maybe a piece of toast here and there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I agree with you 100%! Not all post op diet plans are created equal and many many doctors like to make everything seem black and white and talk in absolutes. For the most part it is all BS. In most cases your sleeve can tolerate most foods once fully healed. There are a couple things I don't tolerate but my doctors allows it. It is our choice to make smart choices. I am 7 months out and I could eat almost anything if I wanted to.

Yes Gl I'm still waiting on a date bc of my psych eval but I'm learning so much and it's jus wonderful to chat with others Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. My NUT says in the future to eat Protein first, then veggies and if room, you can have a little carbs. So it's not forever but it is limited. I am going to avoid movie theater popcorn for sure bc it has disagreed with me in the past and I don't want to risk anything. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Hi Camber, I have not attended a support meeting but am considering it. I really like Kristin and she runs them I believe. Camber, what date did you do your pre-op group meeting with Kristin? My preop meeting was May 16th. I'm going to the next support group. I've heard good things about them from Kristen. I'd love to meet you! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App Can you remind me when the support groups are scheduled? I think I had my preop meeting on May16th as well.Lol, really? I wonder if we already met! The next support meeting is this Monday, June 27th at 6pm. If so, I was the blondish women, mid40s.Yes that was me! Well we have met before. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App Haha! That's so awesome! I didn't really look at your photo till now but yeah I remember you! I'm so glad that you are doing well post-surgery. Did you find a Protein drink that was not so sweet? I think you had mentioned you don't like the sweet protein powders. There were two others at that meeting and I hope they are doing well. I will try to make a support meeting but it is challenging on Mondays bc I work till 600 pm and then have to pick up my dogs.I found a sweet one I liked. Were you the one that recommended GNC? I like their Peanut Butter and chocolate shake. I also got a decent chicken broth protein supplement. Let me know if you can ever make it to a support group! I'll look for you. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App I'm glad you found some you like. No I don't think I had recommended GNC but I've got good powders from similar places, eg super supplements. Did you get the unjury chicken broth protein? There may be some Monday's when I could leave early and I'll let you know if I plan to attend!

    July 14th surgery day!

Not having surgery then, but it IS the date of my first appointment with my surgeon, AND it's my 25th wedding anniversary. Which is awkward bc my husband and I are currently living apart bc of marital problems, but he really wants to be at the surgeon's appt too, to be my support person. Too messy, I think. But YOUR day will hugely life changing! Which surgery are you having? Where? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  12. I have been waiting and agonizing over the question of which procedure to go with...gastric sleeve or RNY. I was mentally ready for VSG and have done nutrition counseling, psych evaluation and teaching courses in surgeon's office. Lab work all done and everything looks great except TSH. My synthroid needs adjusted then labs rechecked before I can proceed. 4 week delay then submit to bc/bs. My surgeon is suggesting I consider RNY because it is the surest way to meet my goal of 135#. I have about 70# to lose. BMI 35.4 with 2 Co morbidities: sleep apnea and hypertension. I am very active with crossfit and spin classes and the occasional 5k run. 61 years old. Just seems to be a problem of portion control. Which would you ladies recommend? VSG or RNY? Final labs to be done in 3 wks. Sent from my SM-S920L using the BariatricPal App

    Blue Shield of California

I finally waited on hold long enough to speak to a supervisor and they agreed that the documents that their agents were using were outdated and the requirements had changed. BS of CA no longer require 6 months supervised diet -- only the recommended 3 month wait.
  14. One of the really cool things of being very limited in quantity, you can invest in quality. There was no way I was going to buy a "grass fed organic" steak at Whole Foods before WLS. Too expensive. But, when you are only eating 3-4 ounces...you know that changes things. A half a pound is now three meals. And that's what I am doing. Really great food, just less of it. I have not been back to New Orleans post surgery, but I am so looking forward to going back to Mother's (if you have never been, Google it, it's great).

    Feeling full

What I have found especially after surgery that if you sneeze, nose starts to run or hiccup these are the signs that you are getting full. I am over 2.5 years post op and ny nose still starts to run when I get full. I have to make sure I eat something every 3 -5 hours bc im not hungry it is because I need to eat to fuel my body. I don't like food prior to surgery. There are days I crave certain foods and depending how I feel I can eat 4-6 oz of chili or less. Everyday is different. Liquid diet

But for those who are doing 2 weeks don't feel bad bc after I had a couple more food funerals I felt TERRIBLE. I thought I would add that so I don't have a mutiny. I was doing so well and feeling so great and I feel like crap now. I'm bloated and miserable and struggling to get back on track so I wish he would have never given me the green light.

    Liquid diet

Ok so don't use this as an excuse to cheat but after week one of liquid dieting I went to my appointment and the surgeon said I can have a couple cheat days bc the 2 week diet isn't necessary for me with a lower BMI (40). He said he really only needs me to diet for 3 days but his staff tells everyone 2 weeks so the others won't get upset. So I got to eat but didn't go overboard

My Big Fat Fabulous Life 2016 Season

Looking at the Facebook page for "My Big Fat Fabolous Life" and it seems people are beginning to turn on her. I think people are starting to believe that she is using her NO BS campaign as an excuse for laziness. I really hope she turns it around. Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App
  21. So I mentioned to my new (non-WLS) therapist that I am meeting with my WLS surgeon to discuss a surgery date. She said I needed to work through my eating disorder before surgery bc I mentioned I am a stress eater and sometimes I don't have portion control. It's not all the time, so I don't feel like it's a disorder. I have PCOS so it's been a struggle with losing weight, even when I tried really hard to lose. Just curious if anyone experienced anything similar...
  22. @"kindle" I'm not sure why he's calling you blind either. No offense to Fredbear bc he usually posts helpful comments but that was kind of harsh :/

    Best Tasting Protein Shake

I have to have a Protein shake that is less than 5g fat, less than 10g carbs and at least 15g protein. I want to be able to try them before I buy a case at Sam's club or costco. Where can I buy these? I have a GNC and Vitamin shoppe by me. No time to order online for the beginning stuff bc surgery is in 5 days Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I guess what is puzzling me is that the OP also stated somewhere in this thread that she lost 150 pounds at one point and regained it all. Then she went on to say she knows if she goes to through the process of WLS and loses her weight, she knows she would not let herself regain it BC of all the work she went through to lose it in the first place.....but, she's done that already once. And I don't hear her being very coach able and open-minded here, sorry. I might just be reading this wrong, but I think there is a huge amount of mental readiness work and accountability that I hope she works through before surgery. 25. So, I had blood work for the first time since surgery (10 months ago) and what do you know? Everything was on point. Thank God. Except, my progesterone...hmm...how did my progesterone become almost non existent? No wonder I had no libido. Started on oral progesterone and once my TOM shows up, I can start BC pills!! So, question is... Have any of you suffered from hormonal imbalance (other than moodiness) after surgery or is this just coincidence?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
