RNY to RNY revision.
Sunnyway replied to ShannonCorbin's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I also will be having RNY revision very soon, but my original RNY was done 30 years ago. Over 10 years I regained all I had lost. Both my pouch and anastomasis stretched. We won't lose as much following revision, but It will get us closer to "normal" BMI. There has been much progress in the technique and protocol since even 2010 so I'm optimistic. -

Lost Weight But No Clothing Sizes Change...
rebandit replied to txsmile100's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My first 50 lbs lost someone said "Pam did you drop a couple of pounds?) .grrrrrrr. well I probably did wear my pants a bit on the comfy side before but sheesh, 50lbs? Funny thing is 15 lbs more and then people were more like omg. Pammmmmmm you lost so much weight. I think your body hits a place where it changes. Then Id lose another 30 and no one would notice then 5 lbs more then it would be omg your gonna be skinny soon. Now after 100 lbs every 10-15 lbs is kinda noticable and my clothes changes. In fact I had a revision in early October and ive gained 35 lbs back and none of my clothes fit. sad!!! -
All set for 8/23/19. This is my 2nd rny gastric bypass. First one was 17 years ago. Then I was 516 lbs, lost down to 175, bounced back to 400. This is my last rodeo. Gotta make it happen. Got 9 grandkids that love their Papaw. Sent from my LGMP260 using BariatricPal mobile app

Ok so here is my story, I originally had gastric bypass Jan 7 2007, I weighed 292 and 4 years later I had my first esophagus stricture due to a stomach ulcer, my weight was normal and other than my stricture I was able to eat anything I wanted, I recovered from the ulcer an stricture and went on as normal until last year 28th Feb I had another ulcer which caused a small bowel stricture, doctor took me in for surgery to remove the ulcer, I weighed 161 lbs day of surgery, an when I awoke from anesthetic the doctor said he noticed my pouch was stretched out and revised it for me, since then I am barely a 100lbs and everything I eat including soup hurts and causes gases burping and vomiting, I throw up at least 2 times a day from attempting to eat, ...I just want to go back to normal, ...how can a doctor revise my surgery without consent?

Fear of STRETCHING Sleeve!
LipstickLady replied to Fatdiva14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure why you refuse to believe this can happen but here are a few more for you that were not prior lap band patients and are not me. These are actually revision surgeries of those who had to be resleeved. ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1429317110.749143.jpgImageUploadedByBariatricPal1429317122.380683.jpgImageUploadedByBariatricPal1429317131.348455.jpg Never did I say I REFUSE to believe it's possible. It's my OPINION that if the procedure is done correctly, a sleeve will not stretch significantly. My opinion is based on my experiences and those of the sleevers I know, most of whom are 3-5 years out. This is also what I was advised by multiple surgeons. It's my OPINION that your opinion has been vastly influenced by your own experience (understandable). Your thread here - http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/334573-sleeve-to-mgb-low-bmi/ - opened my eyes to your situation. I do hope you find the success you are seeking. -
I met with my surgeon yesterday to discuss band removal/revision. He recommended a sleeve because there are fewer complications and it is a simpler surgery. He also said that if it is done correctly, the weight loss is close to the bypass. Because I have worked hard the last 3 years to lose 80 lbs and get down to 230, he said I can reasonably expect to get to 175, more if I exercise and work hard. Next I have to go for an EGD test to assess the condition of my stomach and esophagus. I'll be swallowing a tiny camera! Luckily, there will be some sedation. They don't submit paperwork to insurance until after the test. My band can be unfilled at that point. I really like this surgeon. He removed my daughter's gall bladder 2 years ago and I researched him thoroughly. I'm starting to get excited, even though he expects surgery to be 6 weeks away. This week I need to ask my GP and therapist for letters saying I'm a good candidate for surgery and can be expected to follow my post-op diet and be successful. I'll keep you all posted! Revision Surgery - Band to Sleeve-any tips or success stories
cutlass6521 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good Day I am going to have my gastric band removed and the gastric sleeve done on May 17, 2024 due to complications from the band. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on recovery, foods, exercise etc for the first few days after the surgery. When I had the band installed i was on a liquid diet, then puree and finally real food. Lots of gas pains in chest and shoulders back then. Now I am on a new journey at the end of the month. Any success stories? -

Acid Reflux

Oh I haven't had the bypass yet, that's what I'm in the process of doing. Revising from lap band (it's removed) and now hopefully I will have the bypass in the next couple of months. We're hoping that it cures the acid issues. I'm hopeful! And thank you, catwoman! -

Back In Hospital At About 4 Weeks Out
Kalimomof3 replied to Kalimomof3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The docs came in today and said that if my swallow study doesn't show a problem that it may be a sign the my earlier issue with my sleeve being a long "J" shape may be the culprit. They think it may be twisting on itself when I eat or drink. If this is the case a revision surgery to a bypass will be necessary. Please continue to pray for me as I appreciate it and I will keep you updated - Kali -
Medicare covered both my lapband and my sleeve revision without any of the things u mentioned. I just had to have a bmi of 40 or 35 with 1 comorbitity (mine was 40 with hypertension). Never had to jump thru insurance hoops. Had no pre op diet with my band and only 24 hrs of Clear liquids with my sleeve. Unless ur bmi is over 40, my dr doesn't require a pre op diet (unless u have a history of an enlarged liver).

Hi, I am posting my story because during my "research stage" I have found other low BMIers hard to come by and I want to help someone else like myself out there looking, hoping to find someone with similiar stats. My story: I am 36 years old, 4'11" and my BMI is about 32. I have 3 kids (2 biological, 1 adopted). I am married and my hubby is 12 --count em, 12 yrs younger than me! I have struggled with my weight since I hit my 30s but after my 2nd child it has been completely unmanageable and I can sell you a bunch of other reasons why I am doing this but its irrelevant at this point because now that I have researched everything sleeve related NOTHING can stop me LOL I am obsessed. I was initially researching TT and lipo because I am "not that big" according to everyone (except myself). You see my body type has always been "thicker than a snicker" and it was cute when I weighed about 125 lbs. My bottom had always been my my best asset lol but now that I am over 160 umm it aint cute! If i was to just have TT and lipo my hubby would probably be like dammmmmmmmmmmmm a$$ for days but honestly it would look unnatural and I would STILL be unhealthy and overweight. I would still yo-yo diet and per genetics, keep gaining. So I let go of that idea and started looking into the lap-band because at that time even I thought these other procedures were too drastic for me cuz im "not that big." well that didnt work out because i found too many complications and revisions so i set my sights on the sleeve. YAYY SLEEVE YOURE GOING TO BE PERFECT FOR ME!! Next, I was like ohhh yeah Tijuana here I come because eff paying full price here in the US so i spent countless hours reading up on going to Mexico. But when I told my husband my great idea he said HELLNO. Okay fine. More than likely (depending on my endoscopy next wednesday) I will be paying full price here in my hometown, approx 10k. I dont care about the price at this point, I am so excited and so looking forward to this i can barely think straight. Oh i got sidetracked by my excitment but i do want to say that the certified world national board of whatever says you qualify for surgery at a BMI of 30 or higher. In fact the lower the BMI the better the sucess rate and less complications (for sleeve). That is something a lot of people are not realizing when someone like me is getting this done. I have found some negativity from both wls vets and non-wls. All those other requirements are for insurance purposes. My surgeon said that I am the perfect candidate and he wish everyone would spare themselves the misery of waiting until their BMI is morbid. If you are low BMI and you have the means, do it. I am. You are not alone.

I am an RNY patient... 5 yrs out gained 20-25 lbs from total lost (SW 250 - LW 165 - CW 199) - would like to get back to 170-175 - easier on my joints/muscles/body overall. Would the balloon work as a kickstart/temp revision for getting back on track? I'm doing better with food - smaller portions, more protein/protein first, no liquids with meal, better Water intake, fresh fruits/veggies - low carbs but just can't seem to get the weight off. Very low exercise but that's b/c it hurts to exercise with the extra weight. I've never gotten over 199 since re-entering "one-derland" but I don't want to get there either. Anyone have any suggestions, testimonies, advice?

I had a lapband 10/04 weighing in at 320 pre op. On 6/05, I had my first slip as well as had developed a hiatal hernia and severe acid reflux. The hernia was repaired and the lap band revised. The acid relux has increased to the point I can't stand it! After more teesting it was determined that I had yet another slip and needed to convert or ditch the band. I am now at 232 and lost all my weight within the first 6 months of my initial surgury. I have experienced no food tolerance issues, nor a feeling of being restricted despite 4 cc in the band. I realize I let this go too long but travel for a living and just dealt with it until I aspirated acid into my lungs...OUCH!! Trip to the doctors told me to get this fixed so I took a few months off work and returned to MA to review my options with a gasto doc. The first doc suggested a RNY as he does not do the VSG. (The nutritionist however feels that I am uncommitted and have failed the band.) A second opinion lead to my being told that my surgeon could convert to a VSG on a case by case basis with my insurance but felt I had failed the band twice and wasn't sure if I was committed to WLS. This Mexico for the procedure. I have been told by both docs above that one can not fly for 4-6 weeks after surgery due to risk of blood clots. Is this not the case? Where you uncomfotable during the flight? How long was your recovery? (I was driving 3 days after lap band surgery and back to work 5 days later. No pain meds and only mild discomfort after 3 days.) Should the surgen in MA not agree to perform the VSG, what is the time line with once contact is made with a Mexican Doc? Has anyone had any luck with their insurance covering the surgery in Mexico? (Few VSG have been done in MA to date I would definately prefer a doc with more surgeries under their belt without incurring the out of pocket cost.) What is the weight loss like for VSG versus RNY? (My mom had RNY and lost 88 lbs within 3 months.) Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Arm lift - traditional scar vs back of the arm?
ms.sss replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
On my invoice, the procedure is just called BRACHIOPLASTY. The side boob skin removal is not considered part of the arm lift/brachioplasty with my surgeon. It is part of a separate procedure invoiced as BILATERAL BREAST REDUCTION REVISION, which is basically a breast lift with auxiliary breast removal from flanks. My doc is awesome as he is charging me with a revision instead of a first time breast lift (which really is what I am getting but is about 5K less expensive) as I had a breast reduction several years ago, and he is already going to be there doing the arm lift anyway. With that said however, I did speak to another surgeon (who I didn't end up going with) who combined the arm lift and auxiliary breast removal (without breast lift) and he called it BILATERAL ARM LIFT WITH CHEST WALL EXTENSION. He wanted to do it as one continuous incision. Edited to add: Neither my surgeon nor the other fella I mentioned above post patient photos on their websites (I had to go in for appointments to look at their patient results books) -

4 Weeks post op - I don’t want to do this anymore [emoji25][emoji25][emoji25]
Brandi. posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been debating on posting all of this because I’m tired of living it day to day [emoji25] I am 4 weeks post op and feel like this is the most horrible decision I’ve made. Here is a list of what has been going on : - I am unable to drink anything other than water and sometimes apple juice or popsicles. Anything thicker comes right back up. Broth, flavored drinks, etc will not stay down. - I have acid that brings me to tears and wakes me up at night (all night), it makes me feel like I’m going to vomit fire. I am currently taking Prilosec, Zantac, Carafate, and Magic Mouthwash. - I’m exhausted because I’m not consuming any protein or other nutrients. I’m exhausted because I try to sleep sitting straight up. Any incline makes the acid worse. - I feel like there is a lump rising up right before I vomit and/or get the acid burn. My doctor is aware of everything that is going on. He said I’m in a small percent that gets this really bad GERD or reflux and later down the road we might have to do a sleeve to bypass revision. I’m really not okay with that option because I had complications after the sleeve surgery. He isn’t really worried about my lack of nutrients at this point because I’m “only” 4 weeks out. I know guys, only four weeks, but in all honesty I’m miserable 24 hours a day. I have kids, I have a full time job, and I seriously can’t continue like this. I was also told I now have sludge in my gallbladder so it may need to be removed later. If anyone can relate to this or tell me it will all be okay I would really appreciate it. I’m at my breaking point and am very disappointed in myself for electing to have this surgery. -
Hi, I just sent you a pm to be added, I just got approved today! It took less than 24 hours for a revision approval. Approval is scheduled for 4/16
