    Greek yogurt

    Stupid Question!

The same way you will be eating many things that are not necessarily the tastiest thing from now on. You have to find ways to cope. You are eating for different reasons now. sugar will not aide you in your journey to lose weight. I am not one of these people who are going to tell you that you are going down a terrible path or whatever if you have some flavored yogurt but do consider this - if you cant stick to the rules now as far as sugar goes how are things going to go for you later on?

    Stupid Question!

They have the 100 calorie greek yogurt its what i eat and its low in sugar and have a decent amount of protein. nom nom nooom lol
  4. UGH that's rough. I have a weakness for ice cream, too. I used to sit and eat it with a spoon right out of the carton. Rocky Road was my favorite. Because I don't think I can control myself, I've had it exactly 1 time since surgery. And it was a couple spoonfuls from those machines at an all you can eat buffet type place. If I do decide to indulge, I'll stick with frozen yogurt
  5. Anyone else have issues with richer foods? It seems like some cheeses(goat. blue, etc), and lately the greek yogurt and sour cream don't sit well. Am I crazy?
  6. Hi: If it's on your doctor's list of recommended foods, take along some low fat, or no fat yogurt. Goes down pretty easy and doesn't get much more convenient. Good luck. You may be tired for a few days, but it'll be good to return to your routine. Sue
  7. I am vegetarian and deathly allergic to seafood. Highly processed foods tend to trigger my allergies. My Protein comes from Beans, tofu, seitan, dark green veg, grains, nuts, dairy (mostly cheese and yogurt) & eggs. I don't drink/like cow's milk, but I do eat greek yogurt. I prefer FAGE 0%. I also supplement with whey Protein powder. It takes being creative, but I have no problem keeping my protein between 85 - 100 gms. My carbs are often high, but as long as they aren't coming from "white" or heavily refined sources I don't worry about them. I am also allergic to artificial sugars and stevia. I don't often add sugar to my foods. I do eat fruit several times a week. When I do add sugar use either real sugar or raw honey. At 10mths I keep my calories between 800 - 1000 a day and work out 5 - 6 days a week. @@pookybear - You could try having Meatless Monday's with your boyfriend. Look for meaty textures like portabello mushroom and filling grains like quinoa and farro.

    Having A Hard Time

I have 2 kids also one 9 and the other 5- I give them snacks I know I can eat. They eat Greek yogurt with low sugar strawberry preserves. I let them have the sf Popsicles. For dinner I have been giving them the frozen entrees cause it makes it si much easier and they are not that bad for a temp solution. It's nothing wrong with converting everyone to eating healthy in the end it would be the best decision you would have made for your family and they will be greatful!

    Salads

I started making small meal salads by the one month mark. I used chopped spinach instead of lettuce for a bit better nutrition along with some tomato, avo, green onion, bell pepper, carrot, snow pea (typically only 10-15g of each) along with a couple ounces of meat and a little cheese. It was great change from the standard meat, cheese and yogurt staples and kept me sane!

    Getting my life back

Well, I sometimes hate to admit it, but for me it was... pardon the expression.. a piece of cake! I had no pre-op diet except doc wanted me to lose a few pounds to shrink the liver. I opted for a low carb/ high protein diet for a week before surgery. Then liquids the day before and it's been clear liquids and yogurt ever since. I have one more week on clear liquids.. then all liquids.. then mushie food and then regular food. I had no pain to speak of afterwards. Just a little pulling in the incision area... and NONE of the gas pain everyone talks about. Don't know why I was spared, but I'm very thankful. For me it was just a very easy surgery and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Port Huron is a wonderful hospital with great staff and my doctor is one of the finest in the state for Lap band surgery. He has done over 700 of them so far. The liquid diet is not really that bad. With broth, sf jello, yogurt, sf popsicles and juice there is enough variety for the day. I take a chewable vitamin... Viactiv chocolate cherry and it's my little chewing treat each morning. Hope all goes well for you!!! Judy

    V.A. Clinic Process

I feel pretty good. First thing after surgery in recovery room was a little rough, but nurses got my pain under control quickly. I think I got 3 or 4 doses of dilaudid via IV for pain the day of and day after surgery, but fter that I mainly used liquid tylenol to control pain. I did take a hit of liquid oxycodone at bedtime to help me sleep. But oral pain meds gave me nausea, but again nurses were quick with anti-nausea meds. Had surgery on Thursday morning and got discharged Saturday morning. I am on full iquid diet. Protein shakes, decaf coffee or tea, sugar free popsicles, smooth soups (no chunks, meat, nor pasta), skim milk, plain yogurt (can use artificial sweeteners in it), grits, runny oatmeal and sugar free pudding. I am on this for 2 weeks, then onto pureed foods where I can add low fat cottage & ricotta cheese, creamy soups, but no solids. Next 2 weeks is stage 3 soft foods progressing to regular foods. Then stage 4 to start integrating regular foods one at a time back into my diet. Right now I feel good. Sipping water to get my 64 oz in daily. I have zero hunger. Just a few little stomach cramps when I sip to fast, but again doctor prescribed levsin for cramps and it seems to be working. Haven't had to take anything for pain since I have been home. My incisions are pretty painless as well I only feel them if I really twist or bend to far. I guess am very lucky in that regard. My daily diet is one protein Shake first thing which takes me about 2 hours to sip down. Then I do sugar free pudding with protein powder added. Just add two scoops to the pudding mix and I mix with Fairlife fat free milk. That gives me about five 4 oz servings with about 15 grams of protein and 100 calories. I also do a protein water or fruit flavored protein mix in the afternoon to try and get 60 grams of protein each day.

    Mind hunger...

I did. I did liquid diet fie total of almost 7 weeks straight. I wss committed of course but I rold my husband I'd love it if they made a garlic chicken flavored Protein shake. I was counting down the days until I could have something like Jello and yogurts. Hang in there...

    Mind hunger...

Me! I think we all struggle with this. What helped me a little was when I could advance from liquids to pureed. At least I can now introduce things like Greek yogurt (thinned with skim milk), ricotta, Jello (which I was not permitted on liquids). The sugar free popsicles in Tropical flavor really saved me - felt like a treat that i could sort of chew. Hang in there - keep your eye on the prize! It will be worth it.

    Eating everday

I have heard of putting crystal light in with the Greek yogurt. My friend LOVES it with lemonade. I have not tried it yet but need to. I am having a terrible time getting all of my protein in.
  15. Gotcha.... so initially the first 48 hours was clear liquid Proteins only, then for the first two weeks was liquids. Then soft foods... but in my docs soft foods... it includes fish and meat and eggs cooked properly. cheese... yogurt. From week 4-8 is semi soft foods but it's actually pretty much the same diet as the soft foods. I was told I pretty much couldn't do anything other than walking but then I feel that because I am self pay I got very little guidance on that part and they don't really care to elaborate nor respond after they've been paid. Protein

My surgeon told me to keep my protein between 70 and 80 grams a day. He did tell me that more than that would slow weight loss. I followed his recommendation and had great results. I never had more than 2 shakes a day in the early weeks, and it took me all day to get them down. When I was able I added one more thing a day, either a yogurt or an egg. I was at least 2 months out before I could consume more than that daily. Sent from my Nexus 6P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Protein Questions?

Protein is good for your kids, too. Plan your shopping and your meals a week ahead of time. If grocery money is an issue, look for what is on sale and plan your meals around that. Have one day a week for batch cooking, like Rachel Ray does with her "week in a day" process. For example get a couple of whole chickens (You can buy the roasted ones from the deli because they are already cooked.) One chicken you can use right away for dinner that night. Steam some frozen veggies and throw some melted cheese on it. Dessert? Maybe apple slices and Peanut Butter. Sometimes I thaw out some frozen berries and mix it with vanilla Greek yogurt, Take your other chicken and tear it apart and make a casserole with it or a family pot pie. When it is time to eat, just don't eat the crust. Take the carcasses and loose bits and make a big pot of Soup. Take a dozen eggs and make a big pan of scrambled eggs and throw in some ham and cheese and whatever veggies you like. In this house itis mushrooms, peppers, avocado, and tomato. Or you can mix your scrambled eggs with salsa and cheese and make a dozen Breakfast burritos. When you eat yours, just don't eat all of the tortilla. or you can use store-bought pie crust and make a beakfast quiche just don't eat the crust. If you take a large beef roast, you can have roast beef one night (with your veggies), save some back to make stew or soup in the crockpot, or take some shredded and re-cook it in some beef boullion and Italian seasoning. Put that on buns, maybe with some melted provolone, and you have an Italian beef sandwich - just you don't eat the bun. If you get creative in the kitchen, you can get a lot accomplished in one day, and the rest of the week is just heat and serve. If your boys are old enough to help, they should be helping and learning how to cook and clean a kitchen. You can get them involved in the process by having a little sit down meeting once a week to discuss the plan ahead based on how to adjust their favorites into something healthy the whole family can eat. Maybe let them help with the shopping and pick out one crap item apiece They can have spaghetti and meatballs, just you don't eat the Pasta. Meatballs with sauce and parmesan hits the spot and I don't miss the spaghetti at all. Yes, you can have pizza. You just won't want as much as you used to eat. Thrown some veggies on your slice, maybe even extra meat and cheese, and then - don't eat all of the crust. I may have two bites, and then scrape the rest off and eat it that way. I have made fake-out buckeye candies by blending chocolate Protein powder with peanut butter, roll it into balls (about the size of a chocolate covered cherry) and dipping them in melted dark chocolate. Shoot, you can even dip strawberries in melted dark chocolate. You could make a huge pot of chili and it will last all week. Taco salad is good and skips the chips. You could make a dozen hamburgers with cheese ahead of time. Kids like hamburgers. So, find something they like and cook it all in one afternoon. Get creative. i
  19. Yesterday was the first day for me, and in the beginning I was fine, but by the end of the night I was STARVING LOL This is a breakdown of what I can have: Breakfast: SF carnation instant Breakfast 1 light yopliat yogurt any flavor. A.m. Snack: Atkins Advantage shake (any flavor) Lunch: Cambell's Soup at Hand-Classic Tomato SF jell-o chocolate swirl pudding SF Jell-o Gelatin (any flavor) PM snack: 8 oz V8 Dinner: 1/2 c low fat cottage cheese 1 C creamed (strained) soup Regular popsicle Bedtime snack No Sugar added fudgesicle This was the sample menu, but I have been following that. I can't go over more than 150 carbs per day and 50 to 60 grams of Protein a day. My hubby hid my scale this morning LOL I told him last night I wanted to weigh the morning of my surgery. I'd LOVE to have a salad by the end of the day :smile2:) We will make it though! It will be worth it. I keep thinking about possibly having only one or two incisions! That's my motivation!

Very depressed ,Need help and guidance :((((

This is completely normal. I remember going in for my first fill and feeling good restriction for a couple of weeks and then after that feel hungrier than I was before my fill. I went back to the Dr. for my next monthly check up and he told me this was completely normal. What happens is when they fill the band you do get some restriction because your stomach is swelled and then once that swelling is gone you're back to no restriction. He gave me another fill and since then I haven't needed another. There are times when I wonder if I couldn't use a little more but then I remind myself that there is a thin line between great restriction and miserableness (which no one wants and this can acutally make you gain if you're too tight), so instead what I've done is learned how to make healthy choices when I do get hungry in between meals, like 1-2oz of cheese, or maybe some veggies dipped in okios greek yogurt french onion dip etc. We've all been told the band is just a tool but if not properly filled it really is just a ring until you reach that "sweet" spot but even then you have to make the right choices you have to strengthen your mind, find something to do when that head hunger kicks in. I find that head hunger typically only lasts for about 5 min once you find something to occupy yourself so go outside and walk, clean the house, do the dishes anything..... You will do just great once you find your "sweet" spot and the weight that you've gained will come right back off so don't get discouraged just keep pushing on and whatever you do tell yourself that giving up is not an option. Wishing you all the best!

    need advise...

Its all relative. If you're losing weight whilst eating that, then you dont need a fill! It really is a misuse of what the band is meant to do, aiming to fill and fill and fill until you cant eat more than half a cup or cant eat a certain food. The band is actually meant to decrease your appetite and increase satiety - YOU have to do all the rest of it yourself. Which means avoiding bread if you dont want to eat it, not making yourself so tight that you cant eat it. However, it is common not to be able to eat bread. Look at it this way - I currently have no fill and can easily eat an entire two bread sandwhich full of salad fillings. I could also eat several Cookies after that - but I most of the time I choose not to. I have not gained any weight in 2 months unfilled and am currenly at a BMI of only 19. Do I need a fill? If you're losing weight on ten pieces of bread a day then dont sweat it. Weight loss is what matters, not choking yourself off until you cant eat. However if your loss is very slow, or has stopped and you're doing everything else right but not feeling that satiety where a meal lasts you a good couple of hours, then its fill time. But dont judge it on what foods you can or cant eat. I could eat bread with my band 3/4 fill, with no problem at all - but yogurt, ugh. Impossible. Its different for everyone.

Nutritionist was NO help at all

Yogurt really bothers me, the cheese makes me more constipated. I can tolerate eating cottage cheese sometimes. Like I said, I am just going to have to figure it out on my own. She was absolutely no help whatsoever.

Nutritionist was NO help at all

I was told any non-caffeinated beverage counts toward the 64 oz of fluid requirement. And that includes protein shakes. I think some people who are lactose intolerant can handle cheese and yogurt - the fermentation and/or aging weakens the lactose - or something like that. Although I don't know if that's universally true. but other than that, yea - it sounds like she's not listening to you. I would have been mad, too
  24. I haven't tried altering how I eat. I have seen some reports, but I'm already pretty low carb and eat very little gluten. Going vegetarian would be a strain for me. I really rely on the solid Protein to fill me up and keep me full. And def not vegan. I love my greek yogurt. Lynda

    Protein levels low ????

You could try foods that are both high protein and high carb, like yogurt, beans, and tofu?
