  1. Hey Kim87 - *hey I graduated in 1987! LOL * Anyway - I'm 13 days post op and I felt exactly the same as you. I had some regret there thinking - will it stay this way? - but on day 7 felt so so so much better! I'm better everyday - can bend over just fine and sleep so much better in this last week. I'm really struggling staying on a full liquid diet - my Dr said 3 weeks liquid diet after which mean I'd be on full liquids until 3/31. I'm still trying but have eaten some mashed potatos, refried beans - that sort of thing bc I really felt like I needed it and wanted to listen to my body. I also am eating yogurt to help me feel full. I need to do more water and protien drinks - I feel like if I did that - maybe I'd feel fuller longer. I'm consuming approx 900 calories now - but I've not lost any weight in the last week. I'm hoping its b/c of all he sodium I'm consuming eating so much soup. I want to get to 1000-1200 calories and more protien as I've read so many times that people began losing once they upped the protien. What are you eating currently? you're in the mushy food stage right? What is working for you and are you doing any exercise yet? I'm starting treadmill today and going back to personal trainer next week with weights.

Thank You !!! And why is my gas over $3 a gallon NOW. I agree... we should have been investing in alternate sources of energy vs a war that has messed up so many young soldiers and their families and our financial future..... STUPID DECISIONS THAT HAVE COST OUR NATION DEARLY. I expect to see many more vets of a much younger generation on our So Cal streets begging..... this is how we thank our military for their service. So where are the WMD.... bunch of BS And do ya'll realize WE the USA are not the ones who found Sadaam hiding in the hole... it was set up to make us look like the heros. LOL

The carbonation stretches your pouch...if u keep drinking it over time it will stretch it. My husband had bariatric surgery, lost weight, started drinking soda again, and all the sudden could it more bc pouch was stretched. I recommend to leave it alone. Drink crystal light or freeze the soda to make a slushy so it isnt carbonated.
  4. Mine is April 5th- OMG that's THIS FRIDAY!!! I leave for NJ from PA on Thurs April 4th where I'll meet w the doctor and do all that extra pre-op stuff left to do...so, I like to count April 4th as my day so that it seems even sooner! Lol. We need to stick together, especially we April banders! Learn from one another and keep each other inspired to keep strict with the directions/diet rules. I can speak for myself by saying that it'd b really good for me to have a or some buddies to tt while going thru this huge life change. Good luck to everyone and may the days pass by quickly bc it seems to be the longest wait ever the closed u get!

    What's on your mind?

Tiff, hang in there. I know exactly how you are feeling. My husband fought on the front line in the first Gulf War back in 1991 and I didn't hear from him for the duration of the war. He was away for 6 months too and my daughter was only a baby then. We lived in Germany in an age before the internet or mobile phones. I had no family nearby and the unit my husband was detached with didn't even realise he had a wife and family! He also did other tours of duty where he was away for months at a time but luckily had done his time by the time Iraq and Afghanistan came up again. Anyway, on a lighter note, we used to love your PX when we were in Germany. We were allowed to shop there and the stuff was different to what we were used to and a lot cheaper. We would travel for 3 hours to the one in Frankfurt just to get a Burger King! There were no Burger Kings in Germany at that time and the American ones were just out of this world! And the Americans are far more polite and well mannered than the Brits too! Soldiers would hold the door open for you..... I'm fed up today although i don't really know why. I'm still not feeling 100% better as my abdomen is still swollen from where I had my muscles stitched up. I went to the hospital on sunday as I was worried and they gave me some antibiotics just in case it's a hematoma. I just want to be better know but I think that having 2 ops in the space of 3 weeks has really taken it out of me, especially as the last was 2 ops in one! Sorry about your losses too Judy. Hope you are feeling much better soon. You are all so lovely and friendly on this site. I am glad I found you. Take care all, Helenxxx

Apparently there is a fill nurse from the TLBC who is willing to do fills on patients in BC. Her name is Nancy and she can be reached at the TLBC 1-800- 409-8151 extension 337. Edit: Sorry...I understand there may be a misunderstanding and this nurse may only be able to do fills on patients from TLBC.

We won two world wars, our government gave us several programs that are socialism that have helped keep the elderly out of poverty: social security and medicare. Try getting the elderly to give up these two much loved programs. I know that financially they are in trouble but that's because there are fewer wage earners paying into them and more recipients. The only solution to that is to increase payroll taxes or reduce benefits. Why do you not hear anyone proposing this? Because while the public apparently doesn't object to paying higher and higher health care premiums, they do not want increased payroll taxes. Another solution would be to make 100% of wages/earning eligible for social security taxes instead of the first $105,000. That means that almost all of us pay social security taxes on 100% of our wages but people like Bill Gates only pays it on his first $105,000. I support a bill to change this. Our government is responsible for safe working conditions in our workplace, food and drug safety, a 40 hour work week, child labor laws, government loans for students and higher education, clean water and air laws, safer cars, disease control, flu shots, medical research dollars....and the list goes on. Bill Clinton balanced the federal budget and left with a surplus but bush spent that surplus and increased the deficit to historical records, at the time, but I didn't hear all the outrage about spending then. I didn't hear cries from the right about all the borrowing from China to finance an unnecessary war in Iraq. I didn't hear anyone complaining about blank check after blank check being given to bush for this war. With little oversight. I'm still waiting to find out where the missing $18 billion went that Halliburton couldn't account for. bush was given a free pass. Not once from March 2003 until January 19, 2009 did I hear one person ask bush where he was getting the money from to fund the Iraqi war. NOT ONCE. But now we have a democratic president who is CLEANING UP BUSH'S MESS AND ADDRESSING IMPORTANT ISSUES NOT ADDRESSED BY BUSH and suddenly all the conservative right is concerned about spending. It's easy to ignore important issues, like healthcare, that need to be addressed. Then you just pass the problem on to your successor. bush did that. Obama, thankfully, isn't afraid to take the bull by the horns. This smacks of the partisan BS it is. It rings hollow and is nothing more than a smoke screen for the real issue, that I, too, have said before: PEOPLE WHO NEVER SUPPORTED OBAMA, DID NOT VOTE FOR HIM, HATE HIM, AND DON'T ACCEPT HIM AS PRESIDENT ARE NOW BASHING HIM IN HOPES THAT HE FAILS. That is the real agenda and any attempt to divert from this with this phoney outrage about spending is insulting to those of us who know the truth behind all of this.

I have Blue Shield of California. I'm a little worried about proving I've been over weight for 5 years. I didn't have insurance during college so I could probably only go back 2-3 years. I don't know if my insurance has that 5 year requirement....and really I'm not sur if BSBC is the same as BS of CA. I have an appointment with my surgeon schduled for Sep 16th.
  10. With BC/BS IL, they use your original BMI before the 6 month non-surgical program.
  11. Hello everyone! My tentative date is Sept. 10th in Mexico. I have to get clearance from my cardiologist this week, bc I had 1 heart stent placed in March 2012. I am excited!

Don't feel bad, I downloaded it but ended up deleting it!! I can't figure out how to use it, it want me to eat 1,700+ calories a day??? How can I Change it to my 600-800... I am using a livestrong app and I can enter in how many calories I want per day and then I log in what I eat throughout the day. That way I don't go over the 800 calories I have set in! It's been very helpful bc it also has a pie chart showing me my % of protein and carbs and etc. I don't know if my fitness pal is just not working correctly on my phone or what...

Can a Icee stretch your pouch

I kind of feel like we have to refute inaccurate information, because if we don't it looks accurate. There are so many people that lurk and read here. If we let BS stand it might harm some other new person, or worse scare someone for surgery. I'm pretty sure at this point she is just a troll that never even had WLS. The app makes these forums far too accessible to all kinds of random people.

What you should know about WLS they don't tell you

That's where I feel a lot in of my weakness - my hands and I turn 60 Thursday! Its my arms and hands (duh! They're dependent on each other 😆). That's what I was referring to in my OP... I have a hard time opening things I never had issues with before surgery. I shouldn't think its age related when I had no issues 9 months ago BS (before surgery), I opened things my husband had issues with sometimes - though if you were to ask him..he "loosened it for me!"
  15. I feel ya! You should be super mad, I would too and it's only normal. After a day or two when you see a lighter shade of red, becuase you will prob still be upset just think about it a little more, but dont give up. Keep it moving, I'm sure it will work itself out. I had a situation about two weeks ago where I finished all the req. and had the paparwork submitted to have it kicked back due to BC having new 2015 requirements (requirements changed from 3 month weight monitoring to 6 month weight monitoring). I was origionally told that the new rules would go into effect until March, so I felt hopeless as well when I found out. I felt my body in a rage and I was in tears becuase it's one thing when you dissapoint yourself, but when someone else dissapoints you after you have done your part, that was the worst for me. So i hear ya but take a day or two then think about it, then do what's best for you.
  16. I'm home now, but battling extreme nausea. I have both Phenergan and Zofran, but neither knock it out. I'm terrified bc I can't eat or drink much yet.
  17. I can't wait for my plastics I'm terrified of the pain bc I'm a huge baby and had the hardest time with recovery from my gastric bypass but I feel I've earned this i worked my butt off literally to be healthy and fit now I wanna be happy and feel comfortable in clothes I have to constently tuck in my skin and my breasts are like a 100 year old lady my arms don't bother me but the loose skin from my breast and belly honestly hurt the more weight I lost the more pain I was in I can wait to wear jeans comfortably and feel like a 26 year old!! Instead of the old women I feel like now so I'll spend the 18,500 dollars to be comfortable in my own skin I need skin removed from my thighs but that can wait!!!

Fat Acceptance Movement - how do you feel?

I was doing OK with reading her article till I read the following below. I call BS on that. We're all in this predicament because we eat/ate more than we burned. The reason we are losing the weight is because we've cut our calories drastically..and are eating less unhealthy choices..though she does mention that in her article and I have no disagreement there. But don't tell me we don't eat more than thin people...or that we are more sedentary...because we are, and we know it. no one has proven that fat people generally eat more or exercise less than thin people. Period.

    Under 200.

Got sleeved 10/24. HW 226, SW 209, CW 194. Lost 12 lbs since surgery. Can only eat soft foods. Stopped eating the carb soups bc I felt like it was slowing my weight loss down. I started walking on the treadmill 3 days post op. Trying to get more Water and Protein in. Ate chicken breast and threw up. Gonna take it slow with meat and stick with a soft diet, up the exercise, try to get 60 grams of protein in and hopefully keep dropping the lbs. I was losing 1-2 lbs per day the first week and a half, this week I gained and lost the same pound. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. It’s a symptom of ‘mild dumping’ you have experienced I think. I experienced this a lot in the first few weeks and especially as you begin to learn what foods your new tummy likes and what it dislikes rather loudly too. I’d say it’s due to the advocado most likely. Swap to say a very soft poached egg instead. Try adding advocado in a few days to see if it settles better next time. Just because it didn’t quite settle today means your tantrum provoking baby tummy wasn’t quite liking what you fed it but that’s not to say it will not like it in a few days or in a week or a month for example. new tummy means many foods may cause this slight ‘hypo’ feeling even though you may have eaten these foods prior to surgery with no problems. your tummy is new. Brand new like a babies tummy - yet to try food for the first time. Like some babies will vomit, nappy soils a plenty, be colicky or dislike the food - your tummy should be considered like the babies. this feeling you have described is exactly what we all experience. Dumping is like a blood sugar hypo - in bed sweating / cold / shivering / sometimes with loo trips and vomiting and tummy pain but sometimes not. it can last for mere minutes to 5 hours and nearly always zonks you so groggily that you need to sleep. Energy drain and lethargy is instant. This doesn’t mean you’ll have extra sensitivity to dumping either - it’s literally your new tummy telling you it didn’t quite like what you ate. I hope this info and my experience helps you feel reassured. ❤️🥰

Do You Agree With Brad ??

I've done reasearch and I was trying to make a point. Religion and science are one in the same. Just for the record it's the spirtual world not super natural bs. Those worlds exist! There are many realms outside of what you see before you. I totally agree with what you are stated especially the holocust of innocent people! Actually there were billions of Africans slaughtered. There is no excuse for that what's so ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. OMG. I am now 12 weeks prego and starting at 4 weeks all the way to 8 weeks I was puking my guts up. Probably like 20-30 times a day. At the end point, I was just eating to be able to actually throw up food instead of stomach acid. Durring this time, I had 1.2cc in a 4cc band and could not make it out to my local fill center to get an unfill because I was so sick. My OB gave me Zofran (witch is I believe the strongest antinausia med you can take, not positive though) I also got phenergan suppositories since anything going in my mouth was comming right back out. Eventually, I had lost 15lbs and was so dehydrated (and had not peed it 3 days) and fed up I went to the ER and was given 4 bags of IV fluid. Even with all that fluid I still didn't urinate that day or the next morning so I went to my OB and they immediately admitted me and I was in the hospital for 4days on IV's. Upon arrival at the hospital I was immediately seen by a GI doc (due to throwing up blood) and a Bariatric surgeon (due to the band still being filled) They ordered an xray of the band and immediately unfilled the band. Luckily the band had not slipped (THANK GOD!!!!) and after the unfill and 4days and 10lbs of fluid put back into my body I have not thrown up since. It was really rough. So if there is anything I can advise people that are acutally throwing up constantly, make it your first priority to get your band unfilled. I personally think that if my band was unfilled I probably would not have gotten into such bad shape as I was in. I was hoping to actually leave my fill in through out the pregnancy because it was not that tight, but I'd rather be healthy and pregnant than skinny and pregnant. This time baby is priority and not me. Even though this was an accidental pregnancy!!!
  24. Jpet, thanks for the information. Its such a great time, but I wish I could transfer some of this to my DH. Is that mean? LOL I feel so badly for him. With my son I did nothing for three months. I don't know how he and my daughter even ate. I think all of the fast food places fed them throughout that summer. I am so not proud of that. This time I am going to be better. I had such good intentions of exercising still. I did up until last week when the nausea hit. I am going to make myself go walking today before it gets away from me. I think running might be out of the question for now. I hope you are right that it all stops at 12 weeks and 1 day haa haa. Wait, why am I excited about that?? I am only 7 weeks and four days, that is still alot of time.
  25. Hi I had FEP as well. Keep us posted on the outcome. My guess is that your surgeon will be able to identify at least one co-morbidity in your health history. FEP did not approve my surgery initially bc they thought I was below 35 bmi but they eventually approved when I resubmitted. I would assume as one gets closer to 40 BMI that they would be more willing to approve. Keep us posted! Sooo I had my initial consult with the surgeon, and I ended up clocking in at a 39.3 BMI. I am a bit disappointed that the nurse insisted my height was 5'3, when I think I'm closer to 5'2 and have been measured at that height multiple times by my PCP and other providers. The inch difference would have meant that I probably wouldn't need to prove co-morbities. But, oh well. The appointment itself also was not what I would have expected...the surgeon and resident seemed surprised I was interested in surgical treatment of obesity. The resident also commented that I was smaller and healthier than the patients he normally sees in the clinic. I didn't really think that was a compliment nor helpful. They seemed to get it a little more when I explained my rational that I want to get this surgery to help me lose weight before I develop diabetes and other weight related health complications. The surgeon ended up enrolling me in the pre-surgery program, so I am happy about that. Now I just have to wait and see if my insurance will end up paying. Anyways, I see your surgery is coming up fast, @@kadie777! Are you excited? Nervous?
