    2 months post-op

Thanks! i feel great! ....My insurance did not cover this (they also did not cover my VSG). I originally was going to wait for plastics until I reached my goal of 150 lbs and then maintaining it for 6-12 months. However, I kept losing weight passed my goal and I just couldn't deal with the skin and all...

BCBS of IL 24 Months of Weight Loss Attempts

Good lord! Are you sure? that seems insanely excessive to me. Most insurance companies require 4-6 months of weight tracking, meetings with nutritionists, tests, etc... and multiple years worth of proof of being overweight. Aetna required doctor records dating back 5 years, one per year, with a weigh in. Nothing more. For the one year i was missing data, a photo that was date stamped was sufficient. I hope that the 24 month requirement is just a proof of your weight for the past 2 years. Because actively attempting to loose weight with trainers, nutritionists, etc, would cost thousands of dollars. and what happens if at 23 months your company decides to switch insurance carriers? Or you switch jobs?
  3. Hi Every one I am joining you, it seems to be a nice place for discussion and to find answers to many questions. This is the reason why I'm joining you!!! Excuse my english, I'm french but I think that I'm good enough to talk and write in English, hope you will accept me in your Forum. I'm from the Outaouais and I got my lapband surgery in Montreal on December 4th 2009, a year ago. I lost 45 pounds. I'm presently having problems loosing more weight. My surgeon is in Montreal, and from now on, I can have an appointment in Montreal for an ajustment only at 8:30am in the morning and then in the afternoon the adjustment if required. I do not really like these new hours for appointment and I am trying to find another place to go for adjustment. I do really like my surgeon and it is sad for me to have to go somewhere else but it is very hard for me to go to Montreal so early in the morning.... If you think about a place where I can go, let me know. I just send an email in a Clinic in Ottawa and waiting for their answer if they want to accept me in their clinic, eventhough my surgery was perform in Montreal. Waiting to ear from you. Diane55

    What to say

What do you all say when people ask you what your doing to loose weight? I dont want to lie but its not public info.
  6. I wore skirts with elastic waists, paired with a shirt I wore on the outside as to disguise any swelling going on. I especially like wearing that "slinky" fabric skirts & tops. Also, I wore my waist binder for the first month....under my pants, skirts & loose tops!

    Hello

well one thing you have to remember is that not everyone will loose weight super fast. i bounced back real fast after surgery and was able to eat almost anything i wanted for some time. i am just now starting to really feel the band restricting me.
  8. Nioxin is shampoo and conditioner for people who have hair lost whether due to chemo, surgery or etc. You can find it at almost all the hair salon place. I've heard that Sallys has their own line which is a lot cheaper than the brand name. For Biotin, it is a supplement for hair, skin and nails. You can find it at most drugstores. I bought mine from Walmart about $3. HTH.
  9. So I had my surgery May 10th and today I feel no pain and can move around like normal and just a bit of tenderness and itching around the incisions but everything looks good the incision site are getting smaller by the day which is so exciting. But now I feel like I am in limbo. So I have the lapband (which is a major accomplishment) and I am adjusted to it and feel good again. But now I want to loose some weight! I am still on the liquid diet and will hopefully graduate to mushies sometime soon and being on liquids I am abviously losing about a half pound a day or more depending on how much walking I do but when I get to mushies I suppose that will stop dead in its tracks. So I guess I am in the waiting game again but this time for my Fills.....right?!? I guess those are the winning ticket in the lap band game?! I hope they come very soon! About when should us May banders expect our first fill? and about how much should I be getting? If anyone has any information on how I can keep losing weight while I wait for my fill that would be great. and any information about anything in general is always great MAY BANDERS ROCK!

    Hiya All... Newbie

HI Lyn Take it one day at a time. I have no regrets at all. Don't compare yourself to others. The band can be different from person to person. I can eat ANYTHING except rice, apple skins and no carbonated beverages. I LOVE my band... it changed my life. If you any questions feel free to ask. Tom, Toronto Banded July 6 06 Wt. what kind of insurance do you have? I have bcbs and had to do the 6 month diet. My first visit was fairly simple. I saw the doctotr, nutritionist, physical therapist, and psychologist. It was a long day of appointments but it was great to get all of the info I needed. First I saw the doctor and he explained the surgery and talked to me about the benefits of it. Then the nutritionist explained what the sizes of food would be after surgery and explained the pre op diet. then I saw the physical therapist who showed me some exercises to firm things up so that after surgery I would have less trouble with loose skin. And then the psychologist talked to me about food addiction and also about having a support system through this. If you have any other questions let me know Good luck at your visit!!

I go for my fill on Tuesday and will ask at that time. I didn't have any problems at all with it... Just went right down! LOL Perhaps there is problems eating the skin? I Never make it with the skin on- it just doesn't taste as good to me... I'll edit my recipe too!

    First Fill Today

Got up bright and early and went to the Doc's for my first fill today. I'm not at all squeamish around needles but the area around my port is still a bit tender so the thought of being stuck in that spot did give me pause. I shouldn't have been concerned. The Physician's Assistant let me know beforehand that the tenderness is muscular in nature and located a bit deeper and around the sides of the port. The port itself is just below the skin and the needle doesn't go near that tender part. She was 100% correct - a bit of a pinch was all that I felt and no problems. 4 cc's in. Since its the first fill, some of the liquid stays in the tube between the port and band so the restriction is minimal. Still, I could feel the difference in drinking water. I'll spend a couple of days on liquid and mush again, then back to the stage 4 diet. Forward!

    Shopping At Home

AWESOME! GREAT NSV! I had 2 tubs of clothing from skinnier days tucked away in the attic...to my dismay, the lids to the tubs came loose evidently from getting too hot and too cold up in the attic and mice found their way to them. Result...very holely clothing Did a complete attic clean and set some traps, but that won't bring my clothes back

    Vitamins

There are Vitamin skin Patches available in the shop here. I have not used them myself but have read great things about them. I plan to use them after my sleeve on the 28th of this month. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

    5 Reasons

thanks for the question. i am 6 days post op and thinking of what you said has allowed me to kind of solidify in my mind that i feel i made the right choice. i can give you more than 5. 1. i felt that by pass was too invasive. 2. hospital stay and time out of work simply too long for my schedule (i have a 5 year old and work and have my own business) 3. while i want to lose weight, like the other poster, i don't want to lose it too quickly. gall stones is a concern after either procedure but it is my understanding that what really causes gallstones is rapid weight loss and the band loss is more gradual 4. being more gradual there is a better chance for my skin to pull tight rather than sag and i don't just want to be thin, i want my body to look healthy. 5. i didn't want to worry about mal absorption, thinning hair 6. once i heard about dumping syndrome i knew it wasn't for me. i don't think i can go the rest of my life without EVER having ANYTHING with sugar in it (i can't stand artificial sweetners) and the thought of dumping scared me. 7. yes with lap band there is PBing which i haven't experienced and i know how awful it is, but i felt that it might be the lesser of 2 evils (we'll see after my first experience with it) 8. bypassers lose more weight up front but then gain some back. i don't want to continue to yo-yo. 9. knowing that the band is reversable and adjustable. in case of serious illness and i need to focus on my nutritional intake saline can easily be let out to allow for more calorie consumption. 10. if i start gaining in the future i can always have the band tightened again for continued results 11. complication rate/infection rate is lower with band i think i could go on and come up with even more. i would join a bypass group and ask the same questions to them. i would be curious to hear their answers. i will tell you that my brother's girlfriend who is 27 and lost 115 lbs on the band told me some of the reasons she chose bypass over the band were that she didn't want to have to deal with such close monitoring required for fills (which is another thing i actually like. i like my surgeon to be involved as an additional support person for the rest of my weight loss journey) and she also had acid reflux which her dr. felt would be made worse with the band. please post again and let us know what/if you decide. good luck

    People don't recognize me anymore?

It's really weird yes. I have had this happen a few times myself. One of my patients that hasn't been in in a long while walked by the pharmacy where I work and was headed to the lap, I waved and hollered out "hey" as she passed and she waved back. It was several minuets later that she returned and said "Oh My God, if you were not behind the pharmacy counter I would have not known who you were" I was like "Really?" Funny how you live in your own skin daily and don't necessarily see the changes taking place . Someone showed me a picture that was taken of me in January and I was like "Oh MY God who is that?" lol After seeing that I can definitely understand why those who have not seen you in awhile don't recognize you.
  20. I am close to goal and already have a PS appt booked for the 21st of Jan. I'm hoping to have surgery before mid year, if I can get to goal by then. I am definitely doing a tummy tuck, though I am considered a thigh lift as well, as I have a lot of loose skin on my upper thighs. That will depend on costs though.
  21. I voted for my belly, but have loose skin all over. Started a little higher at 48 BMI. I hope to have PS some day, still have plenty more to loose first. I will say though that the extra skin is well worth feeling as good as I do minus 90 pounds. Wouldn't change that for the world. My BMI is now down to 35.

    port problem

The tighter your waist band the more it pulls on your stomach muscles, mine stung so bad after wearing jeans I put them away for a week. I'll try again tomorrow and see if it still pulls. when I wear loose waist pants or sweats it feels fine.
  23. hi everyone again i am 12 days post op and i know i posted 10 days post op that everytime i ate i felt pain and it was like stuck feeling but now i am feeling the same exact way i felt before my surgery i am able to eat just as much as before with no discomfort so how am i suppossed to loose weight with this? i have my first fill on dec 27th does anyone else feel this?
  24. ONCE YOU GET FILLED YOU FEEL DIFFERENT THOUGH RIGHT? BECAUSE WONDERING HOW THIS HELPS YOU LOOSE WEIGHT IF NOT
  25. I am seriously contemplating the lap band, and am starting my research. Been reading this forum for a few weeks, and I don't think anything has impressed me more. Talk about a built-in support system. I have, of course concerns about the band and if its right for me. I was diagnosed as a diabetic 6 years ago, managed to loose a little weight, and by managing my foods, got off my diabetes meds within the first year. Over time, I lost some weight, about 60 lbs, and kept if off thru never ending hard work. I just finished fighting uterine cancer with the usual nightmare treatments, and have all clear from doctors, and w/an excellent prognosis. Also, fighting the cancer, I've lost more weight, bringing me down to 215ish. I hope I can qualify for the band. However, because of the cancer process, I lost my way with managing my diabetes, and am back on meds. Probably because of having to keep so many balls in the air during the entire radiation/chemo treatments, I am finding harder than ever to keep the weight off, and manage my sugar levels. I am hungry, ravenishly hungry every moment of every day. I am hoping the band would work with me, in keeping my appetite to a reasonable level. Even when I was managing the diabetes I was always frantically hungry. I am always on the edge of a full blown binge just because I am so hungry all the time. So I guess I am most curious about hunger levels, and if having the surgery would end the constant fretting about diabetes...a little peace w/my desire to eat would be welcome about now. any and all comments would be most helpful. Thank you...
