SIPS / SADI-S LOOP DS SUPPORT

Hi. I had the SIPS on 12/3/13. I was 268 and now I stay between 110-115. I keep a strict food regimen bc i know myself. I eat mostly Protein. Sometime vegetables but protein mainly. I do not eat peas, corn, sweet potatoes, potatoes, Pasta, sugar and bread. If I want something sweet I will buy a slice of SF cheesecake with no crust at a local bakery or i buy the chocolate sorbetto at red mango and put some almonds with a couple of raspberries and black berry's. The chocolate sorbetto at red mango is 4 grams of carbs for 4 oz. I drink alot of unsweetened homemade herbal tea this is what I love. My suggestion is place yourself in therapy before surgery bc it will definitely help you. I made sure i did prior to surgery then the therapist couldn't give me what I needed so found another therapist who is. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. We are here to help each other. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App

Stressful 3-4 months - BCBS Federal

I have BCBS Fed as well and started with my first visit on 5/25. I am under 40 BMI (I'm at 36) but also have high blood pressure, sleep apnea with CPAP for a few years (doc said that's what's going to help convince the insurance to say yes), and PCOS. To my surprise, BCBS doesn't count the PCOS as a co-morbidity but it makes me insulin resistant as well as susceptible to so many other issues like heart problems, high cholesterol (which I also have), diabetes, skin problems, and weight issues. I've been keeping near my consultation weight within a pound or so but scared to death they will find any reason to deny me. I have a documented weight loss program with a doctor in 2014 but I've never been at a 40 BMI. Best of luck to you. I hope everything works out. Nice to talk to other people who are dealing with BCBS as well.

  7. This whole thread went in a totally different direction -- so much so I have to go back to the original post to refresh myself it was NOT about vets v. newbies and the various definitions of each, which I don't care about anyway. FWIW, I *think* if I remember correctly, the gist of the original thread was a bit of frustration that newbies/recently sleeved people asking questions about risky behavior very soon after surgery and getting bent out of shape if they are having their wrists slapped. Then there was the usual brouhaha about "vets" being snobby, rude, and unhelpful to the put-upon newbies. Whatever. I mostly lurk and read and try to absorb the knowledge of everyone on here; newbies AND vets. I have been very surprised at a few posts regarding, basically, people insisting they can eat/drink/smoke things off plan very soon after surgery or blowing the pre-op diet. Honestly, I thought a lot of these were trolls in the beginning, but at the informational seminar I went to for WLS -- the very first one -- they told the group within 30 minutes that, if they proceed with surgery, they will have to quit smoking for good, and quit caffeine, pot, recreational drug use, and alcohol for 60 days before and after surgery. Seriously, half the (large) group got up and left after that. The people remaining, several engaged in arguing with the NUT running the informational session who wanted to be the exception and still use pot/smoke/drink the whole time -- and who wanted diet pills to help them lose lbs before and after. IDK what the answer is. I used to be defensive and kinda pissy about telling people I was considering WLS and it seemed that EVERYONE *knew* an uncle's brother's wife's cousin's friend who died or regained 200+lbs after surgery. I THOUGHT it was BS and just ambulance-chasing mentality, but after the informational session and seeing people asking about bacon, booze, steaks, etc., I guess there ARE people out there doing this crazy stuff -- and they are ruining it for the people who are very serious and are paying big bucks to have this done. As well, they are truly risking their lives, and if someone gets their feelings hurt by yet another person who has insight telling them, no, young grasshopper, you really shouldn't do X when you are Y days post-op -- too bad! These are the people who regain and DO die that the rest of the WLS population has to defend the surgery from -- the random people who don't follow any guidelines and get horrible complications and regain or are in serious trouble for the rest of their lives. And I have seen some posts from people who haven't had WLS yet, or who are VERY post-op, basically saying, yeah, I did X/harmful thing and didn't die. Go ahead, you should probably be fine. Buyer beware.
  8. I am almost 4 weeks post op and the best advice I received was eat until I'm satisfied and not full. I tried that the last few days and I feel so much better. If I feel myself getting hungry after eating I try to choose a healthier snack like a piece of fruit. However, this is a learning process. I have learned to give myself some slack. I have made some mistakes and have paid for it. Being full or overeating is so uncomfortable it's not really worth it. We all got the surgery bc in some way or another we had a bad relationship with food. That doesn't go away after surgery. I had to stop measuring and counting food because it started giving me anxiety. Stick with trying to eat the right foods, Beans, veggies, fruit, lean meat. Continue to try to learn and adapt to this new process and tool. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Choosing a Hospital

Im going to henry ford. It has thw rating of "center of excellence". I have heard a lot of positive comments about dr. KRAUSE at beaumont, royal oak. I did meet a lady in my nutrition class who works in the bariatric dept. for beaumont, and was having the sleeve done at HF, instead of beaumont bc of the center of excellence accreditation. I found that interesting. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Sad

@@Cervidae What a great, supportive response. I agree. The important thing is to not beat yourself up or you will have a hard time getting past it and continue on a destructive path. At least, that's how I am. I can't say that I've cheated yet but I'm only 3 weeks out and still in that phase that I'm afraid to stray from the plan because I had surgery complications. It's so hard though. My doctor told me something that stuck with me. He said that I will see people stuffing their faces with fast food, pizza, cake, etc. forever and that I have to accept the fact that I can not eat like other people or I'm going to return to a life of obesity. RNY is once in a lifetime. That's it. If I blow it, I'm right back to where I started. My whole family (husband and 4 kids) are naturally slim and eat whatever they want. They are constantly stuffing their faces with delicious food right in front of me. I only have one son who is kind of a hippie and eats healthy. I just let them eat and sip on my shake bc I just have to let it go. I worked on this mental part before my surgery and have accepted it. Is it fair? Nope. But it's what I need to do. You will be fine. It was brave of you to reach out on here. That tells me that you're going to make it girl. You got this!!
  11. if they don't mind you having issues lifting a pencil... Haha!!! I'm trying to put up a front but the lack of calories really gets to you. I walk around a 200,000 sft building all day. 14. Thanks Kristen !! My diet allows only 5 Protein shakes per day, crystal light, decaff tea and the SF Jello and pops. They told me I could add chicken broth and I just did a quick run to go get some bc I'm at work. I'm seeing that other people are allowed more things which I think it's awesome. My dr said since they're affiliated with the Cleveland clinic they also follow their processes.

Any kind. - Getting to go to the pool 3X a week for Aqua Aerobics class - Sleeping clothesless when I can - Baking (and being able to eat just a bite or two AND feel satisfied AND not worry about gaining) - Going out to eat! - Being able to embrace both my gastric sleeve and my foodie nature and succeed! - The things I imagine doing to people who ask me "Should you be eating that?" bc they know I had WLS

    Okay, this is weird.

My low bs episodes feel different now than they did when I had a normal stomach FYI
  17. My surgery is scheduled for 2 days time (16th July here in Australia). Been on the pre-op diet for 4 weeks now and totally fed up with it but I have lost 5 kg which I am delighted with. So just 2 more days to get through and I am there - a bit nervous now - not so much for the surgery itself but I always get terrible nausea and vomiting after an anaesthetic which I am not looking forward to. I am also terribly worried that I will go through it all and not lose any weight. I know that is not realistic if I stick to what the dietitian tells me. I guess I ahve failed somany times before it is hard to imagine that this time it might actually work.

    Family

Why did I have to lose my grandma who I could tell anything to and talk about things with. It's been a few month and now my pApa is getting rid of all her stuff. my parents have done a lot for him and see him daily but yet he says they do nothing for him. My aunt lives in va beach and has him doing things so if he passes she gets it all. Which is not a big deal but my grandma would never approve of the hurtful things he's said to our family and have done. It hurts me she was looked at like a bother so many memories in the house that lingers of sadness now. We were allowed in to get some of her things like cloths and I just cried saying I'm sorry grandma. My papa always talks about us ( me and my family) like we are stupid along with being fat we are going to not live long. My surgery is also a waste bc I'll be fat again in 2 years. Is how he thinks. I just don't see how someone could be so rude, so mean, and heartless. The reason for this rant is bc I'm sick of him and sick of remembering all the times he's called me fat, my sister fat, my grandma (who was dying) fat, and my mom fat. Looking for help with my worries….

There IS a pilot program in Vancouver, BC, where the government is paying for WLS in order to gauge the possibility of making it available as a health prevention surgery. I did not pay a cent. There are nutritionist visits and A physical therapist as part of the program. Great program, I met many other people having the surgery through. Are you in BC by any stroke of luck? Crackers

Well I choose to use never again bc Ik I'm a binge eater and crackers are my go to, eating a whole sleeve before I know it! So why spend thousands to end up right back where I started in a year or 3, eating sleeves of crackers.... Guess the point is if it's a food you ate constantly with the habit of bingeing don't put it in you mouth! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Need Support

I'd take him to your Dr appt with you and have the Dr chew him out! If he doesn't support you, this process will be extremely difficult. I feel badly for your situation. But you have to take care of yourself. If he feels the need to leave bc you are healthy..... then so be it. Extra weight on your emotions you don't need.
