How much more do you have to lose? The closer you get to goal the harder it is. I agree with Kabooboo, your carbs look really high. Myfitnesspal is the way to go. It will track all your carbs and you will be surprised how many you are eating. I would suggest using that and cut back on the carbs. How many calories are you getting a day?

Hair loss after surgery
Matt Z replied to Boujee_Susie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not everyone will experience Telogen Effluvium, but *ANY* shock to your system, even a fever can trigger it. Biotin won't stop it, but it *might* help limit the appearance caused by the fall out. The shock of surgery, drastically reduced calories, protein, etc will cause more hair follicles than normal to enter their rest phase, Telogen. So it's not that your hair is falling out exactly, it's that a larger number of follicles have entered the rest phase than would normally do so, and with the larger quantity doing so at about the same time, it gives the appearance of thinning hair/hair loss. It does go away. By all means take the Biotin (I do) and make sure your protein levels are where they need to be at (as well as your water) and you can hope it doesn't effect you much. But hope is really all you've got. You can use rogain as well, but this won't stop the Telogen phase, it just assists in the regrowth. Nothing out on the market now, will prevent Telogen Effluvium, they only helps reduce it's appearance /effect. -
Ready for mushies?!?
olivepickles replied to onmyway11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i agree myfitness pal is the best thing to help track. you can over eat calories on mushies measure everything out. I was 4 week post op until i felt hungry so transition was not hard. I still don’t have restriction yet 8 weeks out so my challenge is pushing away and to stop myself . i did plateau a bit when i went to mushies and then solids but exercise helped me over the plateau. -
NERVES are running crazy here
Jeannine replied to rabbitlloy2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am joining the 2 of you on Feb. 26th. Similar feelings.. Do you have to do full liquids for 2 weeks? I have to do 3 protein shakes and a proportioned dinner or make sure I'm 800-1,000 calories/day. I'm very nervous about complications but hoping I will be lucky. I usually get ill from general anesthesia and also have little tolerance for Dilaudid. I vomit violently from both. My surgeon knows this. Says he still may want t.o try dilaudid with zofran or Toridol (sp). I don't understand why Toridol would be considered as it is a powerful NSAID? I really don't want dilaudid due to my violent reaction 3 years ago and even when they gave me zofran the vomiting didn't stop for hours. Any advice plz? I wish you both the very best! -
Vines, Your right....soo right. I shouldnt feel guilty and your right, nights like last night dont happen often enough. I think I felt guilty because I am sorta stuck at not loosing anything and not really exercising much...I have 40 pounds to go to goal, and I wanna hit goal by my bandaversary. I just dont wanna screw this up. My father has given me sooo much encouragement and I really wanna do well with this for him and my self... I was drinking toasted almonds...NOT made with skim milk....geeezzz. Your right....guilt is a useless emotion..And as far as the food was concerned at the birthday party, I thought about it today, I really didnt do too much damage there. I had meat balls, chicken piccada, and potato chips ... I ate like six sweedish style meatballs in tomato sause with a roll......a chicken fillet...and a lot of chips. they go down so easy. Nothing got stuck. I didn't PB anything back up...I didn't drink with my meals....I didn't have any veggies, but so what....A small slice of birthday cake.....like three inches by three inches, but it had cannoli filling in the middle of it and whip cream icing.....Then when I got to the bar, I had four drinks I think.....I just started adding things up and thats what made me feel guilty....Well, I had to shovel out today so I guess that burned up the excess calories... I didnt do too bad today. I really havnt been in the mood to eat today. I drank a protein shake for breakfast, hadda yogurt for lunch...and some coffee...Im planning on having another shake here soon. That damn stress seems to find me no matter where I try and hide Tomorrow will be better....I will be back into my routine....and then Thursday life will be back to normal. We go to court for custody on Wednesday. I dont have any doubt as to what the outcome is going to be, Im just not looking forward to being in court. Its what I have to do though. Okay...Thanks for listening to me babble....I do appreciate all the support I get here. Have a great night everyone~

According to my surgeon there are NO forbidden foods with the band. Personally, I would not want to "waste" 150 calories on some processed crappy packaged food. If I really want to have something sweet, I would rather have a small portion of a "real" dessert, such as a couple of bites of homemade applecrisp, or a few bites of real chocolate mousse. I think I shall start a movement called "real food for real people" lol Anyone want to join me ?

See if you can get back in to your dietician & with their guidance develop an eating plan that is sustainable in the long term. It’s best to design a way of eating that works for you & not for someone else. You’re physiologically & psychologically different to everyone else. You may find you don’t follow a specific ‘diet’ but pick & choose across a few eating styles. Like low carb but not low fat or incorporate some vegan or vegetarian meals each week. In the meantime, & as a starting point, keep in mind the recommended daily amounts for the ‘average’ person who’s maintaining like 6 teaspoons or 25g added sugar per day for women. You will need to consume less if you still want to lose. Take into account your plan, lifestyle & personal needs. How many calories are you eating a day? It seems like it could be low if you’re still on shakes. It’s not sustainable to be still having shakes for breakfast & most lunches. You need to be eating real food, especially as you seem to be almost at your goal weight, to get the nutrients your body needs. I stopped taking multivitamins from maintenance because I got all I needed from the food I ate. I was so happy not to have to take them or buy them! I don’t buy a lot of prepared foods, sauces, condiments, etc. simply so I can control the ingredients & how they’re prepared/cooked. If I do, I study the nutrition panel & look for low processed foods, low sugar content, low fat content, multi & whole grains, no or low artificial sweeteners, Watch the ‘front of the jar’ labelling though. No added sugar usually means they’ve used artificial sweeteners or sugar alternatives or they’ve upped the fat. I bought a 25% less fat ‘lite’ peanut paste. It actually had 50% more carbs, 20% more sugar & only 16 calories less per serve.

yes!!! I don't 'eat' all of mine either..i do love tuna though... however, i found MUSCLE MILK LIGHT...it's 100 calories, NO SUGAR, and 15g of Protein. I usually have one in the morning and sometimes in the evening... Once in awhile i will have a Protein Bar if i need something quick and small...but the ones i like are not low in calories....they taste like a fricken Reece's PB cup...yeah...lol they're called Supreme Protein Bars and they come in 2 sizes...200cal for 15g protein, or 30g protein for 400....if i haven't eaten a lot of calories by the end of the day i'll have one..but they're REALLY good and i will totally overindulge so i usually only buy the small ones...

Possibly up your protein or consider maybe a 1/4cc fill just to take edge off. I remember feeling that way and I drank more crystal light and other zero calorie beverages. If it is not head hunger and you ate actually feeling hungry, you may not be in your green zone.
-
You need another fill. I am too tight right now, and am not getting enough calories, but I am not hungry, just unsatisfied.

I know a lot of people do eat it, some will say in moderation and some doctor's and nutritionists will say NO..never eat it. I am sure some day, I will have a little bit, but I don't imagine doing it for a while. I'm at 8 weeks and struggling with Protein. I just got pleurisy again (Lupus related) and it's hard to breath let alone eat or dink. I had my first real salad today, ate less than 1/2 of it (mostly picked out some of the meat). The lettuce was rough going down. I guess it depends on how far out you are. It is a slider food, you eat it and you can eat so much of it (pre-surgery for my "forespecial" day out I ate the Largest Jumbo bag of Popcorn at the movies...all by myself, yeah I put butter on it too. That equals 910-1220 calories and 71-97 grams of fat. I lucked out and didn't gain weight because I was careful for 2 weeks prior to this and was on a stall and it kicked me out of a stall. Good luck, popcorn is something I love, but I don't think it's a good idea just out from surgery because the kernels could be harmful to your stomach and there's not much of a nutritional value to them, if you are going to try some make sure you are healed.

Intro: 2 week post surgery hungry help me
dylanmiles23 replied to Mindelv's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on getting banded. I lived on SF popsciles. I love Edy's fruit ones. The calories are a little higher but the taste is great. I still have them daily. Like someone said, have another protein shake. They fill you up or call your dietitian for advise because each doctor has their own rules. -

Thanks guys! It's nice to know that I'm not alone on this . I haven't blown it by no means, but have went over my allotted calorie intake the past few days. I'll have to remember the skinny cow ice cream. It sure sounds yummy! Sent from my MB865 using LapBandTalk -
I think that with mushy food you may want to watch the calories. If you are then it may be your body in survival mode. You know if you think about it when you are on liquids only it is like you are fasting so your body loses at first. When you introduce something back into your diet that is more filling or thicker with more nutrients and more protein your body tends to hold on to it because it remembers what you did to it last week. LOL That is just my theory. Once your body realizes that you are introducing more food it will calm down and let go of the weight.

wvgal, good for you for taking the initiative to get in control of your band! it is one thing to have surgery, but completely another to use it to it's full advantage. i really hope you like using thedailyplate.com and continue to use it. i find it is the only way i keep myself accountable for what i eat, and i have been using it daily since last march or so. i love it! i swear i'm on that site 10X a day writing down everything that goes through my digestive tract. knowing that i tend to stop eating once i am a little over my calorie cap for the day, i put it on the highest settings saying the amount i need to consume to lose 3 lbs a week. well, over the past 7 weeks since surgery i have lost an average of 2 pounds a week, so it's right! the only problem i see for you is that the daily plate only gives a cap for the # of cals you should eat for your body, and not a minimum. not enough calories can slow your weight loss, and eating only one meal realllly slows down your metabolism. hopefully you will get past your "diet" fix and find a healthier way to lose weight--- and lose weight you will. good luck with everything!!

I just invested in the Fitbit One. I was going to wait for the Fitbit Flex to come out next month until I read that it doesn't count stairs. I bought my Fitbit One from HSN. They had the best deal... comes with an armband to keep your Fitbit in while you sleep. HSN also had free shipping and four month flex pay. The Fitbit itself, is teenie tiny. You can clip it to your waste band or for ladies, inside your bra and no one will notice that you are wearing it. The Fitbit Flex would be obvious because you would be wearing it on your wrist. This product really encourages you to add more steps & stairs to your day! I also have the Aria scale, which is awesome. It tracks your weight automatically to their Fitbit web site, which is free. You can also track your food & Water intake and set your daily calories. Fitbit will keep track for you and let you know how many calories you have left for the day. The Aria scale paired with the Fitbit, work great together to encourage and keep you on track. I got my first 15 pound weight loss badge which I copied and put use as wallpaper on my Iphone It's really nice to have extra encouragement!

Do you feel weak afterwards and what are the band rules
peace73 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am waiting on insurance but had a few questions? Do you feel weak living on 1000-1200 calories a day? Will I have enough energy to workout right away? What are the band rules? I want to decrease any chance of complications and I have read to follow all the band rules so I wondered what they are. Thanks! -
Question For Gastric Sleeve Veterans...
Escape_Pod replied to Forensikchic's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I think you're doing great! You can see my loss stats in my signature. I generally get around 800 calories, more on exercise days. I do aim to keep net carbs under 30 grams, though it has been higher over the past couple of weeks with some holiday treats. I start to panic if the scale hasn't moved in a week, but then it does.... -
I had a band revised to the sleeve in June 2009. I take Prilosec 20mg once daily to prevent any acid issues, and have taken it since about 6 weeks post-op. I have had zero issue with acid reflux. Take some time to research gastrectomies one for stomach cancer, or ulcerative conditions. I did a lot of research before I decided VSG was the way to go because I felt the same way about being fat and happy instead of skinny and miserable. BUT, let me tell ya, I am now skinny and elated. I have zero regrets with my decision. The band and sleeve are like night and day. For me, I wanted something permanent. I wanted the deck to be stacked in my favor. I figured I really didn't need that huge, stretchy part of my stomach that allowed me to eat huge portions of food. I can honestly tell you I don't miss that old habit one bit. My cliff note version of my band to sleeve goes like this kind of: Band in October 2008 Lost 23-25lbs the first couple of months Complications started from the flipped port Couldn't get a fill even under fluoro, Band doctor sucked, left his practice March 2009 Started researching revision options. Chose VSG instead of a port revision VSG revision June 3, 2009 Had a leak found on June 5th (now don't get scared, remember my port was not accessible under fluoro or ultrasound, so I could not have the Fluid (3-4cc in a 10cc band) removed. Plus, the port actually migrated around in my abdomen, and was causing the tubing to tug on my stomach tissue.) Longer recovery Stuck with the dietary guidelines for 4 months 600-800 calories per day some days I barely hit 600 never anymore than 30grams of carbs 60+grams of Protein Dropped 80lbs, surgeon and I discuss that my loss is extremely rapid so we revamp my eating. Increased carbs a little increased a little. Goal of 150lbs reached around 6.5 months post-op. I started at 263 the day of my revision. 270 was my pre-op band weight. I am currently trying to maintain at this point. I've fallen below goal, but I'm only 5'2" and am still in a healthy weight range at 127lbs. I feel fabulous, my energy level is through the roof. My overall mindset has changed drastically. I sometimes forget I had surgery because I literally just enjoy life. I eat whatever I want, just in smaller portions. I don't overindulge often, but I refuse to deprive myself. If you have any specifics questions, or need a shoulder to lean on, please feel free to contact me. I had a hellacious recovery, but like I've said many times, I would do it all again to live the life I am living right now. Stay positive, and have faith in yourself and your surgeon. Need Encouragement and/or a slap on the head!
pumpkin07 replied to TxSam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well lookey here Sam, it takes time. And your body does stall a few weeks after surgery. And then you'll suddenly have this week in which every day you lose a lb and it is really fun. I did that and now I'm up a lb. But most people seem to lose 10-12 lbs a month so I think you've done great. Weight loss didn't stop, your body just needs a minute to hold onto your fat. But with the calorie restriction it can't hold onto it forever. Be patient, stop weighing. Weigh only one day a week and record it and you will see progress. If you weigh the other days that is just for fun. -
afraid of gaining weight during these first few months
lizreeka posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
:w00t: i'm about 2 wks post op....now that i'm on mushies i'm afraid i'm going to gain weight. i asked my doc if i'm supposed to worry about calories and she said to just eat about about 1 cup of food at a time. i make healthy choices...but i want to make sure i'm staying on track. i guess i feel like i don't have enough direction? i've been eating about 4-5 times a day...i get in all my protein/water i guess i need some suggestions? did people gain weight before getting restriction? about how many calories should i strive for? i would appreciate any suggestions....thank you so much!!! -
I don't think you're been bad per se, but you do need to make sure you're getting in nutritious food first. You can't replace 1000 calories per day of various healthy protein, carbohydrates, and (yes) fats, with 1000 calories of sf pudding! LOL OK, that's a bit extreme, but you get the idea. After you've moved on to solid food, you should plan and track your food carefully, and use the pudding to curb a sweet tooth or as a reward when your daily diet permits, rather than as a daily staple.

GNC Vanilla Whey Protein. Favorite things to add. . . . instant decaf coffee cocoa powder (the kind for baking) cinnamon peanut butter (about 2 tsp. . . the calories are worth it, especially when you'll be on all liquids) 2 inch chunk of banana Best wishes to you!! -
Have been banded since 2010. Lost 40 in the first 3 months, than maintained for a year ( still needed to lose 30) and this year I have gained back 20. I don't know what to do. I feel so confused. Going to gym 3-4 times weekly, tracking calories of less than 1400 daily with about 60grams protein a day. I have 5cc in my band and think I'm good with that. I can go easily 4 hours between meals. Protein drink or turkey bacon/sausage for breakfast, salad with protein for lunch and cooked veggies and protein for dinner. Any ideas of what I can do. I find myself only thinking of food all day and hating myself again. Also no longer fitting in my clothes cause I got rid of them as I was shrinking. Please help.
