I'm a week out and just finally have been able to get Water in like I'm supposed to and I even finished a whole Protein shake today, which I consider a victory. The past six days I was only doing about 10oz of water and I couldn't even stomach an ounce of Premier Protein. Green tea helped and so did clear broth. I know it couldn't go down bc my stomach was swollen, I feel significantly less swollen today since my surgery. You're definitely okay, just a little swollen right now. I wouldn't worry to much and don't push yourself too hard. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm with Kaiser as well. I saw my PCP on 7/29. She put in my referral for the department of health education. They called me that same day and scheduled me for orientation on 8/11. From what I understand, I fill out paperwork that day and then I can start the options classes. She said the options classes are 12 weeks long (1/week). My doctor did say to make sure I do everything they ask of me to make it easier for the insurance to approve me. I was told from another member her process took about 5 months. I also was told by someone else their process took 9 months and she had to do a medically supervised diet (she chose weight watchers) bc the insurance required her to. I don't know what all will be required of me (Kaiser Orange County, CA) but I will post updates when I know more. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

SIPS / SADI-S LOOP DS SUPPORT
Sweetmel7 replied to jlofabulous's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Hi. GM. I apologize for taking a while to get back to you! I follow very similar diet regimen as the traditional DS but I dont go over board with fat. I only buy regular mayo and dressings. Usually the low fat products are filled with carbs and chemicals. I do not eat foods that are processed. If I eat roast beef it is cookednot processed like boars head. In the beginning you will drink liquids ,protein drinks then go to the different food levels. If you can stay away from carbs but I think in the beginning I drank liquids and for the protein drinks i bought unjury chicken broth bc my inners were very swollen after surgery and they suggested warm liquidsfor two weeks. My suggestion is to place yourself in therapy before surgery and I continue to go now to make sure I don't over eat or under eat even now bc i am 2.5 years out. I went from 268 to110/115. [img -
Wedding ring too loose
KelseyBennett_vsg replied to reddy4chng's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can honestly say (and apparently I'm in the minority) that I love my SILICONE wedding band. I had outgrown my engagement ring and knew I was going to have surgery so I went with the cheapest option I could find until I lose weight again. It could be something to look into. Mine is a Qalo and it's Teal (one of my wedding colors). I love it just as much as my diamond bc of what it represents. Just a suggestion and maybe something to look into. You can even order them a size smaller and they will stretch a bit to fit your finger. Ready for a chance at really living! ❤️ -
Anyone just now starting thier 6 month supervised diet?
QueenLeo replied to QueenLeo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally understand. I get to the point where I get fed up with my size. I have a interview this week at a grocery store and I so nervous because I don't know how the heck I'm supposed to stand that many hours if I get the job. I'm tired of not being able to do certian things. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App -

My Gastric Sleeve Pre-OP Requirements
KelseyBennett_vsg replied to Hiraeth's topic in Insurance & Financing
Oh yes, my Dr is phenomenal. Ferrin Bayles is his name. I actually had to switch pcp's when I started this journey bc mine that I had been seeing for years just kept pushing Adipex at me. I lost 100lbs on that stuff, and gained back 120lbs when I stopped taking it. Terrible stuff. But yes, my Dr wrote a note in my study paperwork that he thought that I was an excellent candidate for surgery and that it would likely save my life. I'm certainly not giving up, I'm only 25, but I know that if I don't get this now that I won't be around at 40 to enjoy kids and grandkids one day. I want to be healthy more than I want any food ever. If they could remove all of my stomach, I'd tell them to! Lol! Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App -
My 600 lb life-Penny
GSleeve822 replied to GSleeve822's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Penny is gunna be dead soon. Unfortunately, it seemed to me she had a personality disorder too (the whole zero insight thing). It was weird bc at the beginning of the episode she was able to walk out to the car...then she couldn't even stand. I agree tho, it's sobering to see how u can def get this surgery and have no change in weight loss if you don't change your behaviors! Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App -
Need advice from gastric bypass veterans
emme.vee replied to beachwalker4rny's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If you don't want to feel like an oddball, I always make it very clear that I don't drink and drive. At my work we have beer Friday's or sometimes we have little parties in the last hour of work for special occasions. While I would love to enjoy an alcoholic beverage (I'm pre-op) I always decline because I feel very strongly on drinking and driving. I had a family member die bc he had been drinking and fell out of a moving vehicle. I just use the drinking and driving excuse. Now if that doesn't work, someone once told me what they do is get a drink and carry it around all night. Everyone is drinking and doesn't even notice! Lol. If you actually think you can handle an alcoholic beverage, here is a great drink I was introduced to as a low cal drink: Malibu Rum with Water over ice. It tastes really good! I was surprised. And there is only 50 calories per ounce, so provided you drink the whole thing, that's 75 calories. Good luck. I love social drinking and I know I will miss it when ever I do get my sleeve, but it is a small thing I am willing to give up for a bigger better change in my life. Have fun!! I hear you. My surgery is the 1st and this 2 week diet has been rough even though I've still been allowed one actual meal a day. Today I'm full liquid until sun night. My family made bacon and cinnamon rolls and I'm here questioning my sanity hahahaha One thing I keep mourning is the idea of never being able to enjoy a cold beer after a day outside in the summer or even no longer being able to gulp down Water to satiate my thirst after working up a sweat. And hearing that salad will probably be an issue for some reason bothered me more than it should, if I liked salad so much I might not need this surgery lol!! I keep wondering if this is the right choice, can I say goodbye to enjoying huge meals out? drinking as I eat? It's not an easy road we have ahead but I know deep down its the right one. We are giving up our codependent relationship with food, not the entire relationship. We are going to learn to love food in a whole new way and much smaller amounts. More than that we will be able to fit in those seats and not worry every time we are invited to an unfamiliar place if we will fit in a chair or have to stand in pain bc we might break the chair or something! I think that's worth it. For me, I have to make this 'sacrifice' and end the bad relationship in exchange for a longer life with my family, that's worth more than a chimichanga covered in cheese and guac washed down with an ice cold corona! There's a person out there waitin for you to feel ready to add them to your world, I think that will be worth it for you. This is going to be interesting for sure! Scary and at times we are going to wonder wtf we have done but I truly believe in the end we find it was the best decision.

365 days to a new me
Chrysalis77 replied to Chrysalis77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Day 32 11 Days post-op Today was the first day I really missed food. It is Friday and Friday at my house is date night. My Hubby and I usually do dinner and a movie at the theatre near our house. I LOVE movie popcorn. I love the wings and margaritas. It was a ritual for us. So last Friday was no big deal. I had just gotten home from the hospital and was still in pain. But today... Today I am up and about like normal. And Hubs wanted to go to the movies. I had such a sadness come over me. Regret. Resentment. Even if we went it wouldn't be the same. And for a few minutes I was angry that I had made this decision. I told my husband how upset I was. And because he is the best ever, he just listened. Then he pulled out some Soup. Made sure me and the kids were fed and after everyone had dinner he pulled me aside and suggested a later show. I agreed and we went on our date- after dinner and it was great. I was so full from my 2 oz of soup (????!!!?!) that I didn't spend too much time missing our ritual. Halfway through the show I tried to picture a plate of wings in front of me and I knew I couldn't have eaten any if I Wanted too. And that is how I survived my first social outing Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Ok, I have been reading for months, been to support meetings, on forums, and I can't understand one specific thing about hunger post-op. I hear both RNY and sleeve patients claim little to no hunger immediately post-op and through the honeymoon period. For the sleeve patients, it's bc they've removed a large portion of the stomach where ghrelin (hunger hormone) is produced. Makes sense. But then why do RNY patients feel no hunger, when that hormone-producing part of the stomach DOES remain in their body, creating hormones and digestive acids and sending them down the roux limb into the intestines to meet up with food that comes from the pouch. And I have heard that RNY patients have hunger return after the honeymoon period.....does hunger also return to sleeve patients? If so, where is the hunger hormone coming from with the sleeve patients, since most of the hormone-producing stomach has been removed? Thx! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Hi guys. Yesterday marked 4 weeks since my sleeve. This has definitely been quite the journey. But I think I have done very well. I was on the lower BMI so I know the weight loss is slower. And honestly I'm ok with it bc hopefully that will mean less lose skin. How are other late June, early July sleevers doing? Please check in. No I didn't tell them yet. I think I forgot really lol. My hospital stay copay with Kaiser is 500$, so I am definitely informing Kaiser before hand bc I believe either way Kaiser outsources to a Bariatric Team outside of Kaiser. I'm not 100% certain but from what I've been told, that seems to be the case. I'm just excited to get started. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How to quit sugar ?!?!?!?
soccergirl09 replied to Armygalbonnie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I had to quit cold turkey. I was physically sick for a couple of days. I literally threw up every time I would start a diet that included no sugar. I will have sugar now(well, not now bc I'm 4 weeks post op) once in a while but pretty much is clean eating the majority of the time. Diet Pepsi was my love. I quit 2+ months ago when I found out I was not gonna be able to drink it post op. It was hard mentally but I never looked back. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I have had a weird combination of all of the above when it comes to my period. When I was a teenager, I would get my period every couple of months with no regularity. Sometimes I would go months without and then have several months in a row. I remember skipping an entire summer one year and rejoicing! My cramps were meh. My parents liked to blame everything on PMS mood swings so I can't really say for sure how bad the mood swings actually were or if as the only girl, it was a convenient scapegoat when they didn't want to deal with my emotions. ( a story for another post!) In my 20s I went on BC to try and regulate my periods. The first BC they put me on caused me to wake up in the middle of the night nauseous, crampy, and wanting to die. I remember many a night in college sitting on the floor in the dorm bathroom crying and hugging the toilet trying not to puke. Eventually, read after most of the school year, one of my floor mates sat me down and asked what was going on. Evidently, I became a raging B!@#$%^ once a month about the same time I was crying in the bathroom. When we compared notes, she explained that that was not how bc was supposed to affect you. Back to the Dr. for different bc. There were times in my 20s and 30s when my insurance wouldn't cover bc and I couldn't afford it so I went back to my very irregular schedule, only now it was about twice a year and spread apart by months. Then in my late 30s I went 2 years almost to the day without a period. Since then, it came back and now its like clockwork. I use the app My Pink Pad to track and I am almost always exactly on what the app tells me for when I will start. At least I was until the last few months, now I start really slow with spotting for 3-4 days, 1 low flow day, 4 OMG I need another pad days, 1 more low flow and done. On the OMG days there are large clots in the flow. I also get cramps on the low flow days and during the OMG days. For the most part I never got PRE-MS I always kind of got During MS. My cramps generally have been with the period, not before. When I was younger and irregular, it would have been nice to have a bit of warning at times! I am 44 now, regular, crampy, and with mood swings. I can usually tell the mood swings now because I get impatient with the people I work with and tend to talk to the other drivers while commuting to tell them how bad they drive! That has been this week. Today is day 1 of OMG! Oh, and this has not changed except for the spotting since surgery. I can't wait to see what menopause holds! Mom is going through it to some extent now, I believe. So far she has had some hot flashes, but nothing else I am aware of and I can't say for sure how long they have been going on. She doesn't talk about it much. She is almost 72. I am planning to get mirena at my next dr. appt. I am interested to see how that affects things. pam

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
melissac79 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@shelterdog64. Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Doc said it appeared ok but that he has to go back and look at everything and write up a report. It still feels like things are stuck and bc of that it makes me puke or just feel uncomfortable. Also, my stress level has been through the roof. I started back to work today and while I was so excited I had no energy after 5 hours. Also, yesterday was a terrible day. I found out that my fiancées brother was found dead. He was only 30. July is a tough month for me as my sister passed two years ago in July also Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I went to the bariatric doctor in May to get everything started on my WLS. At that time, the office called my insurance company (BC/BS) and was told everything that we required. Asked specifically about a 6 month regimented diet and was told that it wasn't necessary. Because my BMI is 50, I should qualify for WLS. Over the last 2 months, I've gotten all my pre-op work done and the doctor submitted all the paperwork for pre-authorization. They were then told that I am being denied as there is no documented proof of a 6 consecutive month exercise/diet regiment with a nutritionist. Of course, my doctor's office got involved and negotiated twice on my behalf with the case nurse but she said that is their criteria. And I have been officially denied until they see that I have followed a 6 month program. If they read my diet history that I sent them they will see that I have been on diets my entire life - you name it, I've done. Sure the weight comes off, but then comes back on plus more. I even went to a nutritionist for a year but that was several years ago, and they only want to see the past two years. Can you feel my frustration? I met with a nutritionist today and are starting to play this game. Since I met with one in June for the pre-op, I just barely got by in July so at least I have 2 under my belt. I just know that come end of November, the insurance company will try to find something else to deny me. Say I didn't lose enough (even though they are not saying what that "enough" is). I want to get this done this year as I've already hit my deductible. I'm sure that case managers are supposed to do whatever they can to deny a procedure because of the cost involved. Do that not see that there is more health costs involved with morbid obesity? I am so angry; I can scream!!!!
