    Starting to run

Wow! Wonderful NSV! I hope some former MO athletes come out of the woodwork and share their secrets with you. Meanwhile, you're probably wise not to push yourself too much. But I bet you can go beyond 90 seconds next time. How exciting to be able to run at all -- and look at you, you've lost over 100 lbs.!

Small NSV -- But I'll take it!

When I would buy a new Harley shirt I almost always bought a mens because I refuse to look like a stuffed sausage on the back of the bike. I now have a wardrobe of really good Harley night shirts to sleep in and bum around the house because they look like dresses otherwise. It sure feels good doesn't it Good for you on your NSV! That first "wow it's really working" is actally a bit more than a small NSV...you go girl! YAY FOR YOU! Skye And....who cares if folks think you look silly dancing into the store in your Sturgis dress :grouphug: you feel good....you look good....you are doing GREAT!

    My NSV shocker

What a great series of NSV's. And I love Vegas - so that makes it even better. Good for you. Happy Band Journeys to all.
  9. This past week we went on vacation to vegas. The last time I flew (13 mos ago) I could barely get that seat belt done up. I had to use every ounce of strength to get it buckled (my arms were shaking I was pulling so tight). Also, I thought I had the "bad seat" all the time because my seat would go back when it was supose to stay in the upright position. That turned out to be a little button that my leg would depress in (I had no idea that button was even hiding there). Anway back to the NSV. I fit! Whoohooo, I FIT GOOD! I was able to buckle up and have a good 6 inches of extra belt (never had extra before). AND I finally saw that button and no, my fat does not push it in anymore. I too can keep my seat in the upright position!!!! We literally walked miles and I was able to keep it at a good clip and didnt get tired out and could speak while walking! All good things! I get so concerned with the scale that every now and again it is just so good to see there are changes happening that the scale does not show me. Life is good! :scared:

    Nsv

Yesterday, I had to go to the pet store to get some hay for my bunny. While at the shopping centre, I thought I'd try on a few pairs of jeans, just to see if I could find any I like. Went to 3 different stores. In every one, I was able to fit into a couple of their size 14's! That's a 12 in US sizes!! I danced the happy dance lol. The last time I could wear a size 12 US, I was in my senior year of high school .. and even then they didn't fit comfortably (yesterday they did).

What's everyone's latest NSVs? I can finally use a regular bath towel instead of a bath sheet
  13. I have a wonderful NSV. I work for my Surgeon. Well, they are here every other week and today's the first day I have seen any of the team ( Doc, Nutritionist and Psych) since before Christmas. I love our Nut, she is wonderful. She told me I am so tiny and that I don't look like I need to lose anymore weight. I have been told by a couple of people at work, but you never know if they are just being nice. I still can't see a huge difference myself. Anyone else have this problem? Sent from my iPhone using VST
  14. I just done the math and if I live another 50 years I'll save $240,000 on food and beverage since having the LapBand. That's enough to put all my kids through college and still buy a new Cadillac!!!! I had a soda habit that would make fat bastard jealous. I usually ate out twice a day. Wow, that really adds up! Hot Stock Alert: If you own any shares of Pepsi-Cola you better dump it fast!!!
  15. Tonight I did what I thought was impossible! First, to put in in perspective: the Couch to 5k program starts you off with alternating 90 sec. walking with 60 sec jogging in week 1. I could barely make it one minute when I started!! Today I just finished week 5 day 3, which means I ran 20 SOLID minutes on the treadmill!!!!! I can't believe I did it, and it wasn't bad at all!! Just days ago I was struggling to finish 5 min blocks, then 8 min blocks. I was doing more than the people around me in the gym. I haven't ever felt that before! I nearly cried when I was done! But no, to Celebrate, since I had run 3.5K, I said screw it, and ran and walked even more and did the whole 5K tonight JUST FOR FUN. (Seriously, what's WRONG with me? LOL!!) I can't believe I've transformed so much in such a short time. The band has lightened me enough to find strength I've never known before. PS I called my brother, who has almost always been fit his whole life, even fit enough to run the NYC marathon several years ago, and he said that even he probably wouldn't be able to do 20 min right now. HA! Am I getting to be the fastest runner in my family? I can hardly believe it! I was always the slowest one. So I challenged him to do a 5K with me this summer. HA!!!! It's on!!

    Rode My Bike!

Day 28: "Impatient" Today is a good day, but as I've mentioned in my previous blog entries -- time seems to be standing still and I'm having to learn the art of patience and distraction. My weight loss has not happened as quickly as I'd hoped, but I'm still loosing 4-5 pounds per week. Nothing to sneeze at. So long as the numbers are going down, I'm stoked. Can't wait until the next drop in clothing size. My tops are loser for sure in the waist and arms, but I can't go down yet due to my bra size. If anyone has any good exercises for making the "girls" smaller, please let me know! So I now know what dehydration is all about, and it sucks. It's bittersweet because I had to learn it during two of my early NSV moments. First, on Friday I walked 2.5 miles in an hour. The furthest I've gone in years! And I felt great during the first 2 miles, very little pain in the usual places, good heartbeat. Then I bonked at the end, and even worse a few hours after I got home. I had a low-grade headache, some nausea, and muscle spasms. Not to mention I was as weak as a bird. I knew it was dehydration, but I was perplexed because I'd been drinking plenty of fluids and had water with me on the walk. So I upped the intake even more, to nearly 100oz of fluids! When I wasn't urinating very much, I got worried. Went to bed, hoped I felt better then next day. And I did. Saturday was a little better, I drank more, and seemed to be getting better. My husband and I went for an 8.5 mile bike ride over 1.5 hours and I FELT GREAT! I can't remember the last time I felt that good on the bike. Considering my history is heavily cycling related, it was a little overwhelming emotionally. My husband commented about how great I looked, my balance was better, and our pace was much faster than it had been in the past few years. What a difference taking a small, 30+ pound monkey off your back will do for your endurance! Then I bonked, again. A few hours later, I was weak, headache-y, twitchy, yadda, yadda, yadda. I had a full 22oz bottle before riding (along with breakfast food and shake) and finished the same 22oz second bottle while riding, and drank like crazy after. WHAT WAS GOING ON!? I take a potassium pill from my doctor that is the size of a horse pill. Don't worry, I dissolve it in water and drink it down. But my sodium and magnesium levels were low. I looked at my food journal and somehow the foods I was taking in were much lower in sodium and magnesium than previous days. Not sure how what happened. So I took some magnesium citrate as well (powder form in water), and drank and rested yesterday. Just a 45 minute, slower pace walk. Today I'm feeling much better, and I talked to my NUT. She wasn't too concerned, said to continue with the potassium, magnesium, and work in more sodium where I can without taking too much. It's amazing how fragile my body still feels. It takes so little to change the chemistry and throw everything off! It makes me a little sad, that I will forever have to watch every single thing that goes into my body. I'm OK with it so long as the scale is going in the right direction, but when it's not moving very fast -- it's not as easy. I knew there would be up's and down's, as I talked about in my first blog entry. This was both. A great victory for my physical endurance, but a slippery slope in my health. Let's see how the next week plays out!
  17. Okay...where do I start. I know if has been a while since I have posted and I am ready to share some great stuff that has been going on directly related to my band. First a BIG NSV (non-scale victory) I went shopping today for a new pair of jeans. I have been wearing a size 18 (I know I can't believe I've been in a size 18!!!) A couple of people have commented that they are getting baggy. Not falling off or anything, but baggy in the but, so I decided to find some that fit me ok. I tried on a size 16 only to find they were too big too!!! OMG!!! So I went out to get a smaller size thinking that they would be too small and THEY FIT!!!! (I am shouting for joy now) I FIT INTO AND BOUGHT A SIZE 14 JEANS!!!!!!! I haven't fit into that size since somewhere around my sophmore year in high school!!! I still can't believe it!!! I know all jeans are different and I tried on several brands and styles and I could button all of them. I just didn't like most of them and some were too tight, but that's okay. I've also been thinking about getting a body shaper. I am really noticing how much I will be needing a tummy tuck and breast lift. My body is beginning to look like a deflated ballon. Anyway while I was in Walmart I tried on a size 2xl cami body shaper and it was too big so I got an XL. I can't believe the difference! It only cost $16 and it is amazing and comforatble so I will be wearing that most days to work now. I also got lucky and found some amazing deals on clothes that fit me. $5 for a skirt and the same for pants. I kept grabbing the size 18 and kept going back tot he rack to get a size 16. (These can not be even a little snug...they are for work) Okay...next victory. I went out of town last week. I was gone from Tuesday to Friday and I STILL LOST WEIGHT!!! I had to eat out for every meal and was "wined and dined" for two of those (for work not pleasure) and I still lost weight and worked out! VICTORY!!!! YAY! This is the trip every year that usually gets me off track. I have another one next month, but I am more confident that I can make it!. I did find myself starting to feel sad that I couldn't eat more of the stuff I liked, but then I was so grateful because I realized that the band was dong just what I wanted it to do. It was giving me a reason to not over eat. I could have kept gong but I would have felt horrible and I don't want to stretch my pouch. I love my band. I had to say no to fresh hot pretzels and pastries all week, but that is ok. I could have eaten it, but chose not to. The band has helped me make those tough desicions. I know I could have eaten around the band and drank a TON of expensive alcholic drinks and incredible soft deserts, but I have learned a new lifestyle and since I have worked so hard for 5 months I was ready to hit the road and still make good desicions. I have lost 80 lbs and I am 5 lbs from ONEderland. I can't wait to get there. Have I mentioned I love my band? His name is Band Jovi:drum:
  18. Well I had my "annual" mammogram today. I say "annual" because my last one was over 18 months ago. When I checked in at the radiology center I had to update my profile. The weight they had on file was from the last mammo (265 lbs) so I felt good to enter 156! Then when I was getting my boobs squished I realized my sistas are VERY FLAT. I also realized I need to buy smaller bras again (was 44 DDD and now 34B) So......I am undecided if today was a NSV or not.
  19. What a journey you have been on!!! Speech! SPEECCHH!!! Would love to hear a summary of your NSV's and who has said what and get up on that soap box!!! woo-hooo and shout out!!! How absolutely AMAZING you are, what an inspiration!

    Lap Band Dictionary

Great idea, Lisa! I'm going to make this sticky and when it's perfect we can revise to be a permanent reference. PB - Productive Burp: There are many versions to the PB, but it's basically when slime comes back up often followed by the food you just ate after the food refuses to go down. NSV- Non scale Victory: Something fabulous that happens as a result of weight loss that doesn't have anything to do with numbers, like getting flirted with or picking up something off the floor without falling over. ESOPHAGITIS - Irritation of the esophagus to the point of inflammation. Can be caused or exacerbated by a too-tight band keeping food from passing through the stoma and "stacking up" in the esophagus. STICKY PM - Private Message: If you want to say something privately to another member, just click on their name for an option to send them a private message. ACID REFLUX FILL - Addition of saline to the band's reservoir to tighten it and create a smaller opening from the pouch into the stomach. Usually done for the first time no less than 6 weeks after surgery when stomach has fully healed and the band is firmly seated in place. Several fills may be needed to achieve the desired restriction. UNFILL - Removal of saline from the band's reservoir to loosen it, and create a larger opening from the pouch into the stomach. May be done to relieve symptoms of reflux or ease the passage of food for other reasons.

Congrats... Shoping NSV seem like there the BEST!!! good luck on getting into that 14 :-))
  24. I had to take some paperwork to my neurosurgeon's office this morning. The last time I was in there, I was 325 pounds. I am now 268. To me I don't look that much different, but she had to do a double take when I walked into her office. I guess I look that much different. I have dropped from a 26 to an 18. It feels good to know all my hard work is paying off.
