    Skin Removal Approvals

@@Jersrose43 thanks but i have NALC Cigna its a federal option an it says no cosmetic surgery not sure what u have applys for me... i do hear alot of ppl sayin document skin issues
  2. It runs in my family, my first popped out when I was 5ft5in 110lbs and 11 years old, so you don't necessarily need to be obese to get them. I'm sorry to say I passed them down to all 3 of my children, developed at about same age on the outside of both hips. Between gaining and losing weight, carrying 3 9lb babies non of which laid the same way, my tummy looks like the roadmap of Indianapolis with all the county roads marked. I actually have an abdomen 5 little slits would only be enhancing. I heard someone was going to have ivy leaves tatooed to join the scars together, I couldn't do it. My skin is in too badly stretch marked, I'm not quite that frisky and most of all I couldn't afford it. Just think how much that would cost! Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. I am 3 pounds from my goal weight. I still have 6 weeks to lose it before I see my surgeon, but I have been stuck for 2 weeks. What can I do. I can’t loose this opportunity.
  4. Hi, Well for me its my tummy!!!! That extra skin from pregancy and c-section has left that oooooooooo yucky!!! (smile) They say to do crunches but that is for the muscles not that skin
  5. It mostly depends on your age and the luck of genetics (also the way your fat is distributed) In my mid thirties, I lost over 150 lbs and had very little loose skin. (meaning it wasn't quite as tight as it used to be, but there was no sagging whatsoever). Now, the second time around (I was banded January 27), who knows? I'm a little older and my skin has been stretched too many times. One thing I know for sure, excercise will not help with lax skin. But barring cosmetic surgery, (which can leave hideous scars, which also happed to me too ) there are some procedures that can help with minor sagging such as the Titan laser or Thermage. Even lotions that help boost the collegen and elastin in your skin can help a little. Just my two cents... good luck everybody

    GREEN ZONE

The green zone is loosely defined as being able to eat a modest amount of food and feel full for four hours. However, this feeling full sensation can be affected by many things. For example, if you eat a steak you are much more likely to feel full than say eating a bowl of cereal. Dense foods like meats, cheeses, and eggs tend to keep you feeling full longer. You can also sabotage your green zone feelings by drinking with meals or eating what are called 'sliders' like sweets, chips, or Soups for example.
  7. Sorry in advance for graphic post. So, after 9 weeks of consistent/constant bright yellow, loose, cramping stools, I finally talked to a doctor. Because I've always been the "I can fix it myself!" or the "I'll just wait it out" type, I was hesitant to bother a professional and be told "nothing to worry about". But having painful, uncontrollable diarrhea multiple times a day has gotten to be an issue. I can't always dissapear into the restroom for 30 minutes at a shot while working. And the sharts (see other threads!) are getting worse, not better. When my intestines start with the sharp, stabbing pain, I begin to sweat, ache, and feel dizzy. I am constantly dehydrated because of the total liquid nature of the stools. So, after asking some questions and collecting a sample, GI doc sends me for a slow-contract GI series...and here's the fun part: I now have an answer for WHY. Apparently, my pyloric sphincter (the one at the bottom of the stomach, that is the "gateway" between the stomach and the duodenum) has become overactive, in that it opens and allows unprocessed, incorrectly-pH'd food to pass out of the stomach when it is approx 50% full (1.2oz!). Upon reaching my small intestine, it is immediately rejected because it has not been properly broken down and mixed with stomach secretions, causing it to be moved along at a rapid pace. The phrase "gastric dumping syndrome" was used many times by the physician - so there goes the myth that sleevers can't dump! In my case, that is exactly what is happening. The bad news is - physician has no idea how/why this is happening. No matter whether eating solid Proteins, drinking fluids, eating Beans, etc....everything seems subject to this effect. I am already waiting 45 minutes after drinking before eating, and 30 minutes after, which is making it even harder to get my fluids in. There were no recommendations to remedy this issue, other than to stretch my window of fluids to an hour each direction - but large quantities of fluids (over 6 oz per 30 minutes) makes my intestines react as well. Does anyone have any experience with this? It's gotten so bad that I consumed NOTHING for the 8 hours I was at work today, because I was not at liberty to leave the floor for any reason, save for my 30 minute lunch, and I couldn't chance consuming something and having a bad reaction. Any advice or experience is welcome. Nine weeks out from surgery and still having things crop up. Man, bummer.

    Question for the husbands

Ok I am jumping in on this From a differnt angle NO WLS will not fix a abuser of food and alcohol! Most likely will make it worse My Male Ass Story! There is no doubt i went thru some rough times with this, To put it bluntly was a complete Prick! Moody grumpy and all out miserable! Until i got my head on straight. This is a huge issue with both males and females, the extreme changes our bodies go thru make is different. So this tool will never fix those issues I am not married but very close physically and mentally to my x wife. She saw the changes and it got ugly again. I have a few other friends with privileges and they noticed it also. Even my Male friends said WTF! I am 52 and ended up in a Lake side bar brawl with a bunch of 21 year old. Temper was short and they did cross the line, But I would have never even let it bother me pre WLS. Lucky for me i crashed and got help getting my stuff together. I am fine now but it took some time, back to the old person i was. I did not get divorced from WLS i have been divorced a long time. I suggest you get his closest friend or brother to talk to him Man to Man. In other words Man up or you will loose a lot around you. Then get him a Head Doc that specializes in Divorce saving and behavior Changes. Anything can be fixed! Just may not be easy. But i fully understand Hard to Break a ALpha Male Complex

when to incorporate strength training post-op

According to my doctor, lose skin has to do with age and genetics. However, strength training is good to "help" with the matter, if you will. My surgeon gave me the green light to start at the next week (it will be 3 weeks). I am 29, and had no complications at all, however, so that may be why. Just do what the surgeon says...it could be different for everybody:)
  11. Yeah, when I started to really notice that I was losing muscle mass, I figured I would rather have too much protein intake than not enough. If my body was in the mood to make muscle, I wanted it to have the components it needed readily available. Yes, the excess would most likely be converted to glycogen/fat, but I was OK with that. I just didn't want to lose any more muscle. I tell you what, I am most likely the person NOT to follow, unless you want to work out a ton. When I was running 30 miles a week, doing a race every month, doing HIIT and weight lifting twice a week, I was consuming at least 160 g protein and at least 200 g carbs, daily. My calorie intake got as high as 1,700, on my best days. Not something you would typically see in a sleever. But, I was losing inches. I think in this phase, I went from a 35 waist to a 32, but lost less than 10 pounds. BTW, my excess skin is better, but it is still there. I am going to wait for my 2 year surgiversary for a plastics consult. I figure everything will have settled into place by that point. At a year out, I can still see things firming up in that dept.

    Gonna try something new

I am a believer in this, and I don't really call it the 5 day pouch test, but I do routinely go all liquids for 2, maybe 3 days which usually gives me good results. I don't do it to loose weight, I'm finished loosing. I do it for maintenance reasons and what I believe maintains good band-health.

    Struggling w/ Chronic Diarrhea

the diarrhea you describe sounds just like what i had when i was taking a certain drug. i hated it , out boating and my husband would have to take me back to the boat launch. i never had a solid stool during the time i was on it. so check your medications in case the doctor missed something. the other problem i had was hyperperistalses. that is when the intestines move to fast. it causes pain and loose stools. it has only shown up on 1 of the many upper and lower gi's i have had. the doctor says that it goes into remission is why we don't see it all the time. the medication is hyomax-sl. i was just thinking that if you have even the smallest of food allergies it could get your intestines going. i hope you get to the bottom of this, no pun intended. but taking out the band should be the last resort but at least discussed. some ppl can't tolerate all the Protein that we eat this could be the problem too. perhaps a barium swallow to follow the barium as it goes through the digestinal tract. good luck. and i do hope you find out what the problem is even if its the band. i just though of another one, diverticulitis, a upper and lower gi missed this but a barium enema did not on me. just some ideas
  14. Yeah from what i've read on here some surgeons are pretty loose with their diet progression...mine wasn't and had a strict week by week plan Weeks 1-2: Full liquid 10 grams of protein per meal 6 meals a day (clear liquids) Weeks 3-4: Blended 10-15 grams protein per meal 4-6 meals a day (blended meat, fish, eggs, or tofu, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, bady food, cooked vegetables, fruit, soups,) Weeks 5-6: Low Residue 20 grams protein per meal 3-5 meals a day (lean poultry, fish, or lean ground meat, creamy nut butters, egg or egg beaters, soft cooked vegetables, light yogurt TOASTED bread) Weeks 7 and beyond: 20-25 grams of protein per meal 3 meals a day (fish, poultry, legumes cooked soft, fresh or canned vegetables and fruit, cooked cereals, potatoes not fried, whole grains like rice quinoa or barley) avoid sweet beverages, whole milk, citrus acidic foods, alcohol, caffeine, fried foods, breads with seeds, fruit with tough skins, high fat meals, soft gummy bread, sugar and sweets that's sort of a skeleton of what to eat if i forgot anything someone please add on
  15. How much does insurance want you to loose pre op in order to approve surgery? What type of diet were you on? Just starting journey and have lots of ?s.
  16. I want to loose 40lbs and get to goal. This will take a serious effort. Gained 3lbs baking but lost it this week was sick. Only got a short time frame so even if I loose half I'll be happy.

    Access skin

Yep I had excess skin. You cannot really predict if you will based on others' experiences though. It depends on your age, your health, elasticity of your skin, etc. Too many variables to predict. Chances are though, you will. I was able to get a tummy tuck and panni approved and covered by my insurance. I've been so thrilled with the results (pictures are in my profile and on my blog). I was denied for the skin on my arms, but honestly it's not bad and really bothers me more than anyone else. But it doesn't bother me nearly as much as being 140 pounds overweight did.
  18. Okay, hoping one of you guys can help me by sharing your expeirecnces with restriction and fills. I had my first fill three months ago and have lost about 5 pounds since (all in the first month after the fill). I do feel some restriction. Sometimes I PB, sometimes I'm very tight, and sometimes I'm very loose (like today when I ate a large order of chicken with cashew nuts and 10 fried wontons in a single sitting). But I rarely if ever have that "full" feeling 10 minutes past my meal. I'm thinking that I need a slight fill to keep the food in my pouch longer but I'm nervous because I know how tight I can get at times. What do you guys think?

    First fill tomorrow!

So how did the fill go??? My doctor had me stand up an she felt hard through a large bruise on my tummy....but I nearly passed out.....the long skinny needle really didn't bother me at all though; it was just her pressing into my Sore port area. So how did your Dr do the fill???? Plus mine did not numb me at all....others have mentioned laying down AND skin numbing.
  20. Think about the band...and ask yourself "What is the reason people get fills?" Is it to boost will power and self discipline? Is it to make this process hard? And frustrating? When I was first banded, I was VERY FRUSTRATED...I did not go through all this just to be on another diet...I was actually gaining weight after my first fill.... Fortunately I have a Dr. who calmed me down and explained in simple terms what this band is all about, and that it is a process that takes consecutive office visits and fills, over several months to get this thing "Tuned" and humming to perfection.... Many people sell this Lap Band short before they give it a chance...we want INSTANT results...I read posts here everyday from people who have had the surgery only weeks prior and can't understand why they are not loosing!!.....It does not work that way...maybe with by-pass or the sleeve, but the band has to be adjusted over time.... Until then it is just "Bandster Hell"
  21. Have You Ever Had a Situation in Your Life When You Wanted To Do Something But, People Try To Make You Think Their Way is Correct; buy a home, get a new career, leave your husband or wife, go back to school, loose weight their way, start your own career, buy a car, Spend your money, have a child, think your bosses way is correct, when he or she is not or what ever it is!! And people can't figure out why you won't listen!! John 10:27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. John 10:05 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice. Love You!! Happy Thursday!!
  22. I'm in the same boat. I've been lazy. I know that my band is a tool and I have to make healthy eating choices and exercise. I was doing good once i was in a routine with walking. Then i got too busy with 2 nursing jobs, both 12 hour shifts that i made the excuse i have no time to walk. also no time to make healthy eating choices. ugh!!! But spring is coming, and before we know it summer will be here. I don't necessarily care how i look, but i want to feel better so i can be active with my family. One of the guys at my drs office says to just walk 30 min a day. he says anyone can do that and if you're consistent, you'll loose a pound a week. I dont like vegetables and i love junk food. So I'm hoping that if I stick with veggies ill develope a taste. yuck. Well good luck! Ambra:unsure:
  23. Thanks, Coops! I know I'll have some rebound on the tummy skin, but it's in pretty bad shape after 2 c-sections with over 9 lb babies both times. I had stretch marks bleeding during my first pregnancy and my stomach has never recovered from the second c-section. I'm not even sure what the result would be after surgery, so that's one question I'll definitely be asking! I'm not 100% sure if my insurance will pay for a tummy tuck, or if it's actually good for a pannulectomy (sp?) or something else entirely. I have been talking to a couple of IRL friends today and I've decided to do a couple of things in anticipation of my plastics appointment. I'm going to add in a dedicated ab routine (more than I've been doing), up my cardio and my weights, especially the weights for my arms, back and stomach areas. I know none of that will magically change my skin issue, but I want to be in the best possible physical shape I can before I have surgery. If surgery is the decision I make, that is. No matter what, I think I probably have 4 or 5 months before I could possibly be scheduled for surgery, so I have a little time to work on both continued weight loss and toning.
  24. Highest weight 338lbs Current weight 278 338lbs I know i still have a long way to go as i need to loose another 100lbs but one step at a time... This surgery has given me life back... Would do it again in a heartbeat!!!! Am starting to see my waist...!!!
  25. I'm a little over 3 weeks post op today and think I might have overdone it. I did tons of yard work and I know I shouldn't have, but I haven't been sore and I thougt it would be okay. I should have known I was still healing! Tonight when I got in, I noticed that my port site was really swollen and sore. Also, I can feel my port perfectly right beneath my skin. I don't remember ever feeling it this close to the skin before. I'm sure I'm just swollen from the activity and that my port hasn't moved or anything, but I'm a worrier! I don't feel nauseated and I have eaten and all is fine there. From what I have read, everyone that has "messed" something up has had severe pain or nausea. I wouldn't call my pain severe at all. Anyone had this happen after lifting, bending, etc?
