  1. I'm still not always thinking like a thin person. I took out my jeans this morning and just before I put them on, a quick thought went through my head that they wouldn't fit. I knew they would but I still recall easily that fear or unease every time I'd put on my pants when I was obese. I always feared they wouldn't fit and that fear is still there obviously. It's especially hard now beacause the jeans are really small and I don't realize that I'm small alot of the times. Still working on body image issues though it is getting better. The other random thought today is that we really really need to not obsess over the scale. I admit I weigh myself daily. I do it because it helps me early in my maintenance phase. Having said that though, the number cannot determine our outlook for the day either. I went out to dinner Wednesday night and again last night. Wednesday night I had grilled fish, a couple of shrimp, veggies and a little bit of couscous. When I got on the scale in the morning, the number was the same as it had been for several days. I was a little surprised since I've been very compliant. So last night, we went to a restaurant that's supposed to have the best Pasta in all of NYC. My sister in law is leaving for Beijing on Wednesday for work and will be gone for a year. She wanted her last meal in NYC to be her favorite food so we headed to Porsena even though pasta is my trigger food for sure. Well...I stayed in control but ate more carbs than usual. After all...it was the best pasta in the city. (It was really good..lol) I also had a little bit of dessert and two glasses of white wine. So I got on the scale this morning and figured I'd be up at least a pound if not more. I lost almost a pound instead. Just shows you that it's only a number and the numbers can move without rhyme or reason. I'm not feeling like I dodged a bullet today, nor do I feel bad if the scale doesn't go down or stay the same when I'm being especially compliant. I focus on the NSVs instead. The best one last night was not that the food was terrific (which it was) but I walked home from the restaurant. I went across town and had no real issues doing it. A year ago I was bed ridden and days away from my hip replacement surgery. Walking home from the restaurant was better than any number on the scale. OK, sorry for rambling...have a great day, and a great weekend everyone. For those who Celebrate Yom Kippur, have a good holiday and an easy fast.

    100 + forum?

Well we got some good responses so far from you all. How about we do follow up on this thread with each other? Weekly sign-ins would be great although a daily thread would be fine withe me too as I need daily and sometimes hourly encouragement.... At my highest weight I needed to loose 170 pounds and have lost 130 of it so far. I have hit a plateau for a while now. I know I need to increase exercise and decrease snacking between meals. Any more suggestions? I am gonna sit down real soon and make out a list of all the NSV and maybe that will help motivate me and others too. Glad to meet all you other 100 pounds + fellow bandsters, to all you who have lost 100+ Congratulations Way to go..... For all you who still need to lost 100+ - you can do it!! Let us encourage one another. Hope to hear back from all you 100+ club members really soon!

    NSV

The guy that does our cleaning in our office is a really sweet Latino. His English is very broken and most of the time I can't understand what he says. Every Friday he comes through and says "it's Friday, yay". We just adore him. Yesterday I was sitting in the break room and he comes in and sits down. He said "where did your stomach go?" LOL. That made me feel so good. Someone is noticing!!!

I experienced an NSV today. I was walking in the store and saw this really cute thin woman in the mirror. I thought to myself, what an attractive woman. I then realized it was me!!! Love it!! I still don't recognize my reflection sometimes!!

Awwww, those are my favorite kind of NSV's, congratulations! Sent from my iPad using VST
  10. Congrats!! I couldnt imagine wearing my daughters clothes, that had to really feel great. My 16 year old, on the other hand is a size 3, so the chance of that happening for me is pretty slim. (pun intended) Hey- but you never know, anything is possible Enjoy your NSV!!

    Hand me downs...from my daughter!

I understand how you want her to lose too. My girls would freak if I was suddenly smaller than them, but it's likely to happen unless they keep up with the boot camp I bought them. But.... congrats on that NSV!!! It's awesome to be better than we've been in years.

    When did people notice?

Ditto ... People on BP claim they see a huge change in my photos two months apart. I fail to see anything in the pics. My NSVs, OTOH, give me a smile ... trouser waist down from 152cm to 138cm (or 60" to 54"). My body fat down from 47.8% to 42.6%. My lung capacity up from 18 seconds holding breath to 44 seconds. Was walking with a cane for support in June. Not using a cane now as my exercise extends past two hours per day. (Exercising 13 days per TWO WEEKS!) Averaging 22500 steps/strokes on the Vivofit 3 wristband daily in December ... up from 3500 in September!
  14. Paola, That's a wonderful NSV! Congrats to you!!

    I'm back...

I haven't posted in a while and I kind of regret it because you all keep me on the right track. I have my lap top at work now so I can stay logged in! I haven't been doing terrible but I haven't been as good as I could. I have had some cocktails (not a lot at a time because I get drunk FAST now) and I have been eating more chips than I need. But I also get an average of 90g of Protein in a day and stay within my allowed calorie range (max 1100 but i average 900-1000 a day). So far I have lost about 45 lbs from my pre-op weight BUT I have stalled like crazy and I have gone down 2 sizes which makes it a little better. NSV: My birthday was this past sunday and I spent it at a banquet celebrating my pastor's 25 anniversary with the church. I wore a satin pencil skirt that I purchased about 3 years ago and was never able to wear. It was so big that as I walked down the hall of the hotel, it turned COMPLETELY around. The split was in the front and if not for my hips it would have been in the floor!!! LOL!!! So this is my progress so far and I plan to pick up n my exercise this week. One question that I have: does taking Vitamins help with weight loss or stalls?? That's probably the one thing I have been really bad at....I haven't really taken any since surgery (mostly because I didn't have the money to get them but I will get them monday when I go to the doctor)
  20. I have a couple to share Last year our office was upgraded, everyone got new chairs but I insisted on keeping mine because the new ones were too small. I recently borrowed someone else's chair and realized I FIT! A couple nights ago we were sitting by the pool and I had my chihuahua sitting on my lap, petting him, and suddenly realized OMG I HAVE A LAP! This was NOT the case 5 months ago. I have also pulled out older/smaller clothes (some with tags still on) that now fit. I am really enjoying reading about everyone's NSVs. Keep 'em coming!

    Nsv

So today I'm wearing a brand new (i.e. not stretched) Australian size 14 shirt --- AND IT FITS!!! Plus, I saw a new surgeon (for something unrelated to the band) today, and in taking my history he found out that I'd had the band. He exclaimed "But you're not that big! Why did you get the band?!" I was like... ummm, I used to be bigger than I currently am!!! :D
  22. I've always had "deep veins" and I've always been pretty sure this is nurse-code for "fat". I used to squick and squirm about getting IVs or doing blood draws, but eventually I learned to just calm the f* down and everyone's life is easier. I have coached people through which veins might hold, which veins blow easier, where to try looking, and a lot of "no it's ok you can keep poking." I've stopped having to ask for a pediatric needle as I've gotten better at telling people where to look, but it's still a chore. Can't ever find the one in my elbow - always gotta go with my hand.... My surgeon sent me for my 100-lbs-lost blood work (85+ since pre-surgery diet but 104 since my first visit!) and I went to the lab, took a deep breath and said, "I'm pretty patient about getting stuck, so if you can't find a vein right away, it's OK. My veins are hard to find." "No, I see it, it's right there," said the tech. I looked. Sure enough I saw a little glint of blue in the fossa! "Your veins are great," she said. "Great veins"?!? I have NEVER had "great veins"!!! But losing some of the thick fat in my arms.... Now I have great veins. WHO KNEW.

    Sad Nsv

I've worn clothes so big they went from tightly hugging the upper portion of my butt, to nearly hanging down to my knees! I still insisted on wearing them though, only in the house Three years ago I wore a size 12 or 14, now I'm a 24, but I still have some of my favorite size 14 clothes hanging in my closet. I'm VERY sentimental about my clothes. I have bags and boxes sitting in every empty space of my house, so many that I even had to stick one in my son's room, under his desk. None of them are ever going away I don't have a point, it's too early lol. Congratulations on your bittersweet NSV!

    Sad Nsv

A couple of days ago I went through all of my clothes and put aside everything that was now too big for me. The pile filled one of those HUGE leaf bags. (the bag went to a friend of a friend's who is one or 2 sizes bigger than me but who is losing weight and would love to have the clothes - not a wls person). So, in that sense it felt really great knowing I was "paying it forward" and someone would get good use of my clothes. Admittedly, I have/had some very nice things so someone hit pay dirt for sure!!! I know, I know...it all sounds like a great NSV, right? And logically I know that it is a good NSV. BUT... Located within that pile was my all time favourite sweater (that I only even had for one year). It was a beautiful "nordic" like ski sweater ...pull over with a few of those nordic buttons at the neckline. BEAUTIFUL colours weaved throughout. I just loved this sweater; I had always wanted one but was never able to find one in my size (until I came across this one last year). When I tried it on, it hung on me so laughably there was no way I could ever wear it. I know some sweaters you can wear even when they are too loose..and it's not so bad etc...but this one looked horrible; really horrible. So, into the bag it went, as I promised myself I wouldn't keep anything that was obviously too big. Plus which by the time next winter comes around it will be even bigger on me (*knock on wood*). So, it is also a sad NSV for me. bye bye sweater. I know I can eventually get a new one (& I probably will next winter)...but nevertheless, I have mixed feelings about his NSV.
  25. So I have been sick since Friday and that totally sucks but as of this afternoon my BMI is 29.9 and I am officially no longer obese. I have lost 90 lbs since 12/12/12 and I am only 30-35lbs away from my goal and I am not scheduled to be there until 12/12/13. Just keeping an eye out for my silver lining. lol
