    1 day post open, home

I am on soft solid stage 1. Greek yogurt, fat free re fried Beans or beans chewed really well, pudding, Protein shakes, scrambled eggs, cheese. I was told to try 1 new item per meal to make sure that my body can handle it. In 3-4 days I progress to soft solids stage 2, ground beef, lunch meat, chicken, cooked veggies. That is my life for the first month!! They said to take a small bite, chew really well and wait 1-4 minutes to make sure that your body is accepting the texture. It should take 15 mins to eat the few oz of food at each meal! Good luck on everything!! SW:327 CW:239 GW:155 Heather in Texas

Is it a slip or just swollen?

I'm so glad I found this thread. I have been banded for a year and a half (not a newbie at all), and am at goal - really! My last fill was in Jan 2008, which put me to 2.4 cc. I lost about 20 pounds since that fill and thought everything was fine. About 4 days ago I woke up with a terrible acid feeling in my throat. Yes, I did eat some Fritos the night before, but not too many because I can't. Since then I can drink fluids like Water, Slimfast, even yogurt. But solids hurt - right at the band. This is a different type of pain from being restricted or stuck. I can eat only 3 bites of soft foods and then feel the pain. I called the doctor today and was told this is probably pouch dilation. I was told to stay on strict liquid diet for 2 days, and if not better by Friday (day after tomorrow) come in for deflate. I'm at goal (even a bit less) so I am not terribly concerned about losing some fill. I'm more worried that this is something worse than dilation. I'll keep you posted. I hope to hear how the rest of your situations resolve. Terry
  3. I haven't had my surgery yet but I have been experimenting LOL... I really like the body fortress whey isolate vanilla that you can get at walmart, its a huge container and one scoop is 60gms of pure 90% protien. This is what I do and it tastes like a shake ( I have a ninja ) 1/2 scoop powder 1C unsweetened almond milk 40cals 6 ice cubes Torani syrups any kind sugar free- optional cinnamon-optional instant coffee-optional 3-5 drops stevia-optional frozen strawberries (or any frozen fruit)-optional I also like Fage' greek yogurt with any frozen fruit a few drops of stevia and you have a high protien ice cream! but with this you have to have a ninja to do it Good Luck Stella!

I will be starting the yogurt thing next week, and like you ,no amount of cottage cheese will pass my lips. That is a whole lot of yogurt. What about Tim Hortons vanilla yogurt ? I know for weight watchers it is only 3 points Yasmina
  5. Okay - first timer here. Jan 25 is magic day. nerves kicking in. need some ground advise for the pre-op diet. i can't do cottage cheese - havn't done white milk or close faxcimilies since i was 6 months old - can't handle the smell, taste - even the thought of it makes me shiver - Yogurt however - i have gotten to like over the past few years. but two weeks of yogurt and tea? - are they serious? i'm going to try - but does anyone have some "tricks" they can share. i'm not sure what happens if i'm not able to hold out for 2 weeks of yogurt and tea?

  7. Hey everyone!! I’m 6 months post op this 23rd and have lost 107 lbs since surgery! I’m ecstatic for my progress so far and need to lose about 40 more to be at my goal weight (fingers crossed). But lately I’ve been seeing myself being able to eat more that usual. I’ve went from 2-3 ounces to eat 4-5 ounces of food. Most of the time it consists of a good diet such as chicken salads or eggs, sausage , yogurt fruit and etc and I do keep up with my fluids. I just want to know if it’s normal to be eating this amount at 6 months post op? Also I don’t eat any carbs if it isn’t a pretzel here and there. I just want to be consistent and I’m scared that I maybe eating too much and my pouch has stretched !!! Any advice is appreciated Here’s a before and after pic!!!
  8. I am guessing you are on the soft food stage. I did baked wild alaskan sockeye salmon. You could bake other fish... it's nice and soft. I also did chicken that was really moist. I was told I could do moist ground beef, but didn't try it then, but you probably can. Hummus, yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese or other cheese. Refried Beans, boiled sweet potatoes, boiled butternut squash, well cooked carrots or canned carrots.... canned veggies of any kind because they are soft. A little banana, canned peaches.

ARe you serious about the Jello (i presume the sugar free) on the Pre-Op diet. i'll check that out with my Massage Therapist (also a Naturalist). What he has been telling me is that yes - the short statement is "Shrink the Liver" - however the longer version has the yogurt forcing the organs to start purging the fat and toxins out. That knowledge has helped. on many levels. Thanks for the responses. It seems i have trouble accessing the site from my home system, so i'm stuck waiting until i get to work each day. - for now any way.

Hi and welcome ljgnorth!!! Good luck on your upcoming date!! I won't lie to ya, for me the 2 week pre-op diet was REALLY hard. Admittedly, I cheated the first two days and then realized I was only hurting myself and got thru the remainder of the 2 weeks. I told myself that I NEEDED to do this to "shrink my liver" in order to make the actual operation go smoother for the docs and have a better recovery. When I told myself that....it really helped me stay on track. Seriously man, if I can do it, anyone can! I also can't stand the taste, site or smell of cottage cheese and so I only did the yogurt thing. Tips: take one meal at a time and don't think of how many days you still have left of it....you'll go insane. "hmmmmm what will I have for Breakfast (lunch, dinner) today...hmmmm lets see....I can have yogurt or....oh yeah, there is yogurt....or perhaps some yogurt". It was tough man. But to help, I treated each time as a meal and I wouldn't eat out of the lil' yogurt cups (if that is what you have). Dish out your yogurt into a real bowl with a real spoon and sit down to breakfast/lunch/dinner like a regular person and eat. It makes ya feel like you are eating a regular meal....and have really as much as you want. In all seriousness, if you can make it through about the first 5 days, the rest will be easier......it is the carb withdrawal that will get to ya....but after the first few days, it gets better....just keep telling yourself that you are literally going thru withdrawal; it seems to make it easier to take. Prepare yourself for the carb withdrawal headaches and irritability....but just recognize it for what it is. Good luck!

Day 3 On Liquids And Crazy

I am on day 5 of liquids. My stomach growls a lot! There is no ignoring it at work. It rumbles most of the day...a bit embarrassing. I am hungry a lot but am determined to get through the next two weeks on liquids. Yogurt blended with protein powder seems to be one of the most filling thing I "eat."

    Surgery date 12/19

Mine is the 20th! I can have Jello, pudding, greek yogurt, broth and of course Protein drinks. For those I drink Premier Protein, Monarch weight loss stores sell Health Wise powder drinks and other high Protein Drinks and Soups. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App
  14. Popeye's red Beans and rice...yum! And a skin off thigh...oh yeah. Wendy's chili is great. Goes down very easily. McDonald's has snack wraps with chicken or burger. That is assuming you can eat chicken or burger. If not, you can order w/o meat and extra cheese. At taco places I do bean burritos or quesadillas. Often I just eat the stuffing out of burritos, as they are generally pretty big. Subway--I eat the stuffing out of sandwiches, DH and I split a footlong. I just leave the bread behind. But you can also get wraps and salads there. pizza, I can do thin crust or eat the topping (not the healthiest choice, but I am maintaining now). Most fast food places have salads now. Nearly all of them with chicken are chicken breast, which gives me problems. When traveling, I stick with things I generally think will go down, even if higher in calories. I have a little 12 volt cooler that we take on road trips. I put cheese sticks, yogurt, Protein drinks, fruit, and things like that in it. I also carry almonds and protein bars for if a place just doesn't have something. But they generally do.

Week Out. Need ideas for Full Liquids?

Full liquids I was allowed anything I could fit through a straw. Thin cream of wheat, applesauce, drinkable yogurt, egg drop soup, tomato soup with cottage cheese blended in, thin pudding, blended cheese and broccoli soup. That's all I can think of right now!
  16. I'm on day 4 of a low carb/high protein/soft food pre-op. I don't feel hungry and its going well. It consists of protein shake before each "meal", And I'm actually liking my strained "Light" soup..very easy to do. I am going to be totally sick of yogurt by the time this is over though
  17. Have a confession to make. I'm only 6 days post op and I fell off the wagon today. I ate fine this morning but at dinner at my moms house she made a full turkey dinner for her and my brother with soup for me. It started with a little mashed potatoes mixed into my onion soup. Then it turned in to a spoonful of mashed potatoes in to my mouth. I ate until I thought I'd burst. Then I came home and thought "hum, I didn't get sick. Maybe I'll try some yogurt". I ate two yogurts, an applesauce, and a Protein Bar! I feel like cr**. I hang my head in shame. I hope I didn't hurt myself. :-(

    Dumping syndrome any advice? ?

I had dunping syndrome and am sleeved. It happened with two things. Frozen yogurt --- full fat or full sugar Falafel --- deep fried fat goodness Take a look at what you ate and that should point you to what not to eat for a bit. Also dumping syndrome happens and you get it all out and then that's it. Usually within 15-30 minutes after eating. If it continues all night or past that it is not dumping it's something else.
  19. Hi all I'm still in the hospital hoping to leave later today as I needed a little attention due to type 1 diabetes and kidney failure but the thing is I'm starved. I have no trouble drinking soup, yogurt a container and even a Protein shake. After I'm content but not full and feel like I could eat again. Any suggestions Has anyone tried applesauce? Did that make you dump? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Lighten up a little...

Lighten up, its just a donut. Lighten up, its just a spoon of fried crap. Lighten up (7 months after sleeve) ooooo its just a carton of ben and jerrys. My cheater foods now are honey sprinkled on my greek yogurt. Whole wheat pita bread with sauce and low fat mozarella. Skinny latte from starbucks. I am purposely staying away from shitty stuff bc i know myself

Nipping the slide in the bud

@NightPilgrim How are you doing with your 5lb quest? Are you back on track?? Funny (notfunny) but at 18months, I too am struggling with the desire to eat at night--and eat not so great things!! Or eat too much of a good thing. One thing that is oddly satisfying to me again and is such a small snack that it doesn't hurt too badly is - Sugar free Jello Cups with a spoon of Greek Yogurt or an ounce of kefir poured over it. Use the unflavored and just let the sweetness of the jello flavor the yogurt or kefir. Here was my snack last night and it filled me up and let me quit obsessing about a square of chocolate. You could even have 6 Lily's Dark Chocolate Chips and a fresh strawberry on top for not much more! Thirty two cals is a bargain, right?!! Here it is with about 6 chocolate chips and a medium strawberry. Still a massive snack bargain for the ROI.

    Post Op food

When trying new foods try one at a time. For example the egg and Greek yogurt. Try the yogurt on its own then the egg, that way if one gives you a problem you'll know which it is. My surgery was performed by Kaiser, here is the link to the Bariatric teams website with info on diet, meal plans and shopping lists and other useful help Kaiser Bariatric After Surgery Page. Hope this helps.

    UGGGGGHHHHHH I am STUCK!

11 months out and I still can't eat beef or pork...or my personal favorite Chinese food! Explore options there is fish and cheese and nuts, so many different kinds of fish..I eat it almost every other night now...Never before...I love it! You need your Protein it is the building block that pushes this program to work.....Trade your Snacks for 1 a day..And have something like yogurt....You will start to pose again...but what you have lost is wonderful...Enjoy each lb. lost as a victory...it is going to take time and it won't always be easy...

    UGGGGGHHHHHH I am STUCK!

Yep chicken is hard for some.... So it sounds like you don't have a stricture, although I would if wanted and endoscopy over a barium swallow but I guess the doctor saw what he needed to see. Weight does slow after 6 months but the sliders (as you know) are going to be the problem. I would eat the meats that you can and veg rather than go back to liquids. Also plain greek yogurt with berries are a good snack/meal with tons of protein.

    Thinking about it...

It's hard to describe but after the band, I'm not really craving the junk like I used to. I don't know what it is but I haven't been in a fast food restaurant for over two months and I don't miss it. Can't explain why. Also, I can have less and feel sated. The tricks that have worked for me are: 1) Keep small snack portions handy. those 100 calorie cookie packs are a life saver for me. If I'm craving sweets between meals, I do one. Same for 70 calorie pudding cups and yogurts. Plan it into your allocation for the day. Still have sweets. 2) Eat something healthy and blocking before the treat. Baby carrots do it for me. Five or six of those fill the pouch and get a little blockage at the opening so when I have a tiny slice of pie, I'm full. If you're planning daily milkshakes, sundaes, alcohol binges, etc, the band is not going to work well for you. You might do better on a malabsorbtion procedure like RnY which won't let your body absorb all the calories and put you into dumping syndrome if you try. Cal
