I had my bypass surgery on 5/16 I still have problems eating meat. But I keep a food journal and try to keep my calories at 800 a day and 60 grams of protiens a day. When I still feel hungry I chew on sugarfree popcycles helps me a lot. I've lost a total of 83 pounds. Sent from my SM-J100VPP using the BariatricPal App

Anyone else have a "bad" EKG? I failed!!!
debbieperez55 replied to debbieperez55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so upset. I am scared. My father had three bypasses, my younger brother had a heart attack at 32. He recently had a stent put in place. I can't call my Mom because she will be upset, I can't call my Daughter because she will freak out, but she is going to be pissed that I didn't tell her. My husband hates Doctors, but this time I think he sees it as a blessing. Maybe it is a silent heart attack, but not a bad one. I went on the internet - BAD CHOICE, NEVER LOOK THIS STUFF UP ON THE INTERNET. So I sit her ready to cry, okay crying now, because I know that bad stuff that it can be. I know I could have dropped dead and it was all my fault because I never lost weight even knowing I had predisposition. I know that I might have some bad stuff down the road, I know I have ignored some chest pains, because it always hurts. I have GERD and Gastritis. I know this and more and yet - it's all my fault. I did this to myself. I caused this, I ate myself into this. I know depressing self destructive talk, but I am so upset. How can they tell you that at the Urgent Care, where I had to go to get the EDG, and then tell you to go home. I called my Dr and he hasn't returned my call, talk about feeling rejected. So now, I will dry my eyes and know this self pitty crap off. Thanks for listening. When I said I felt blue, I guess I wasn't kidding. Haven't cried like that for a while. Debbie Oh the good news, I have lost almost 20 pounds on my pre op diet. -
Hi Guy, This is my first post to the forum, but I have been doing a ton of research lately and I am trying to decide whether surgery is right for me and which procedure to go with. I am a 44 year, 5'10" and at my highest weight I was 258. I was always a thin guy up until my late 20's (when I was generally around 185). In my late 20's, I somehow managed to get up 210, then went on diet and started working out and got back down to 185 in a couple of months. Then I got married and got up to 220, then back down to 200, then back up to 241, then down to 215, then back up to 256, then down to 217. Now, I am 44 was back up to 261 of June this year. The pattern is pretty clear and continuing going up and down the scale isn't doing me any favors. I was sort of on the fence about surgery, but last month I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and that freaked the crap out of me. I always knew I was at risk cause I get the fat all in my tummy, but it's one thing to be at risk and another to actually have the disease. I also have high cholesterol, high triglicerides and sleep apnea. At this point, I am really concerned about my health. I am married and I have two young daughters, 2 and 7, and I would like to live to see grand children someday (and live with good health--not with crappy quality of life). My cardiologist referred me to a bariatric surgeon in March, so I have been through the initial seminar, consultation, nutritional counseling and monthly weigh-ins. At that time, I was leaning towards VGS, but that was before I was diagnosed with diabetes. Now, I am thinking maybe RNY is the better option? I would like to be able to consider mini-gastric bypass, but it doesn't seem like any doctors in the NY area perform this procedure (I don't think many in the US do it actually). I am kind of scared about doing this, but more scared about not doing it. Is there any reason why I should go with VGS over RNY??? Thanks in advance for the advice!!!

OK, this is my first post. I found this site about a week after I had my band placed. It has been so helpful to me to see what everyone else is experiencing. So, thought I would share. I had my band on 6/29/09. I went for my first fill today. Absolutely hate, hate, hate needles. I waited in the exam room for about 45 minutes and made the mistake of looking at the supplies about to used.....AGH! Tip- DONT LOOK! Anyways, he got me on the table lying flat on my back, had me raise my feet a couple of inches up, poked around my port with his hands a few seconds, and bam! He was done! I swear I was in shock at how simple, quick, and painless it was! I would never mislead anyone. I wanted to share b/c I know I contemplated bypass for a while b/c the thought of fills horrified me! Just want anyone out there to know, it was great! :scared2::tt1:

I was sleeved at the end of November and have had no hair loss until the last month and that's entirely the fault of a new medication I'm on. But I also got in all of/if not more than my daily protein requirements, took very good care of my scalp and hair before and after surgery. There's a chance you won't lose any at all, but if you do, fear not! It will grow back. They say it tends to start thinning around months 3-5

Any May Realize bandits out there?
ThinDolphin3 replied to 2BtinyinTN's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Realize bandit here May 8th. I had my second fill on Friday and I asked him how big my band is and he said "well there is only one size, I think it's 10 or 11cc" So right now I'm sitting at 4 cc in my realize. there are times I feel restriction and other times I dont. Wish there was a forum on realize site that way I can talk to others that have that band. I am so far with going to the gym and everything losing 2 lbs a week. I just wish I would be losing more, I just have to keep reminding myself that I'm doing it better losing slowly instead of gastric bypass patients. I sometimes just get so impatient with the weight loss. I am swimming, biking, elliptical and treadmill and weight room. -
Hi November sleeves! Just wondering how those who will have surgery before thanksgiving plan on dealing with the holiday! And those after who are on a pre-op diet are going to handle it. I know we're are all different times during the month but all have to face this day dedicated to our enemy FOOD!!!!
-
I've taken Fiber supplements (capsules) for years. My family doctor recommended due to colon cancer so heavy in my family. Do any of you take or is there an issue with the sleeve? I'm not scheduled until November 15th. So excited and trying to be totally prepared. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Which Procedure is Right for Me
macadamia replied to SteveT74's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think it is awesome that you are looking forward to a healthier life. Asking people's opinions here is a great way to start thinking about which way to go. However, the best resource is your bariatric team. There are many factors that make one procedure better than the other. Some of these factors can only be found by tests and the experience of the surgeon. For me, I was told by two different bariatric surgeons that the only procedure that would even be recommended was the sleeve. I have had multiple abdominal surgeries and these preclude having the bypass. By discussing everything with my current surgeon and along with my upper endoscopy and a follow-up CT scan, the best option for me is the sleeve. Good luck with your journey. -
Band To Sleeve Revision - Kaiser Fontana?
Kirstyn1226 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi everyone, I just wanted to post to see if there might be anyone out there that has had a revision done and gone through Kaiser Fontana? I was banded back in November 2002 (self-pay) and have just now started the process to get a revision done by Kaiser in Fontana. I have already had my Upper GI and Dr. Fedorka reviewed it and determined that I am a good candidate for the revision in one surgery after I complete the Options classes and the other requirements. It would be nice if all Kaiser's had the same requirements for WLS and it seems that Kaiser Fontana seems to take the longest. Kirstyn -
I had a possible slip and my treatment was to have it un-filled and let it settle back into place. my symptoms were night time reflux, immediate feeling of throwing up no matter how much I ate and always feeling uncomfortable. I pretty much hated to eat because I felt like crap and it felt like a chore just to eat. after 3 months I had a ct scan to see how the band was and it was back in place. I honestly was hoping for a major slip because I am tired of fighting with my band. if I could I would opt for the old fashioned gastric bypass and be done with the band, I still am having issues and would recommend bypass instead, that's just my opinion.

Help! Ibuprofen after surgery?
capecoralgrandma replied to CoreyCan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told differently by my surgeon. He said Nsaids, like Advil and Aleve, are okay. You can't take these drugs with the bypass but it is ok with the sleeve. I've been Aleve since I had the surgery in December for bad knees and have had no problems with my stomach. -
Hi! I'm new, 6yrs post-op and feeling shameful for gaining.
lisatwinmom posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone, My name is Lisa and I had RNY on June 21st 2006. I am almost actually 7 yrs out..I said 6 in the title..lol So I had my surgery to help me get healthier and prepare for pregnancy. Because I would have been high risk pregnancy, my pcp wrote the referral right there. So 3 months later I had my surgery and in the 1st 18 months I had lost 155 lbs! We then started trying to get pregnant. Turns out it was a simple hormone thing and after 2 rounds of IUI with injections I got pregnant at exactly 2 years out with TWINS! .. It was our dream come true! And twins! A boy and a girl, we certainly hit the baby lottery! Well, I gained 90 lbs during my pregnancy! I lost 50 lbs within the first month after giving birth, and thought ..oh this will be easy to get rid of the rest! Well...not so much! My eating habits went to shit being a new mom of twins! My twins are 4 1/2 now, Since then I have steadily gained back more weight and now am just 30 lbs from my highest ever weight. Can you say blow to the self-esteem?? I have been through a lot emotionally since becoming a mom and a good portion of it stems from this "failure". I am in the exact position I didn't want to be, too tired all the time, not able to do some things physically I should be able to with them, and now the questions about why I have a bigger belly than other people. I am done beating myself up and I need to face the shame head on! I have decided to do something about it. I am exploring a corrective procedure called Stomaphyx or ROSE. Has anybody had any experience with these procedures? They are fairly new but are specifically for post op Gastric Bypass patients who have stretched out their pouch and gained the weight back. It sounds great, but looking for some feedback. -
Given the reason for the day, I thought everyone might enjoy this poem (for those who've never read it). My Father would recite this to me (from memory) on many an occasion, but most usually on Armistice Day (the 11th hour, 11th of November - the official end of World War 1 and the European and Commonwealth version of Memorial day). This poem was written by Lt. Col. John McCrea MD, IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. I've been to the war graves in Europe. I will never forget.

Hi everyone, I've had consults with 2 different plastic surgeons and one surgeon won't do a TT/BL at the same time as it's 'too much t do at once' and the other will. The only 2 ops I've ever had are my bypass last year and gallbladder removal last week. I healed well after each operation, but struggled emotionally coming out of the anaesthetic. I hate the feeling! This makes me think it would be wise to do it in one operation....along with reducing the overall cost and recovery time. On the other hand, I'm worried the recovery will be too painful & I won't have a carer at my beck and call. I felt a better vibe/connection with the surgeon who wants to perform them separately. Should this be the deciding factor? So confused. Any hints that will help me decide? (BTW- I've gone from 250 to 150). Thanks in advance!

What Happen I Thought Everything Was Fine :(
Bert_n_ernie replied to TinyMamiOf3kids's topic in The Gals' Room
I know after my mom had her bypass (mine is Tuesday) we went to lunch together (spouses included) she was probably 5 weeks p.o.. Anyway, we all went to lunch together & my dad immediately started griping about having to pay full price for someone who eats less than an infant. Idk if they're stressed about money or if its just they feel akward eating normally around us now. When guys blow up, it usually has absolutely nothing to do with what they're ranting about. In the case above, my dad later apologized to her and admitted it had nothing to do with cost, it was that he is insecure because she's lost all this weight and now he feels insecure that she will want to leave him and that he feels fat and ugly. Getting ready for surgery March 31!
kimmholmes1 replied to peacock774's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck. Mine is scheduled for March 31st at 1 pm Boston time. However I have one more test on the 23rd and unless that one is OK I won't be able to have lapband at all. That would leave bypass or sleeve for me, which are definately NOT my first choice. Keep your fingers crossed. Kim:confused: -
My Doctor Really Pushed for RNY
WASaBubbleButt replied to Daisalana's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In all fairness there reaches a point where one requires discipline in order for bypass to work. It's not a cure all/fix all. When they don't have the discipline required for bypass they get revision to banding. -
I am new to this board but feel like I'm in the right place! My banding is tomorrow at 8:30am! I am excited but nervous. Had to take a Xanax each day this week just to keep the bad thoughts away. My Dr required absolutely no pre-op diet. I was nervous about that, but found mention of others with similar situations on this forum. I've tried several shakes/protein powders just so I know what to expect. Like most, I've spent years gaining and losing the same 50 lbs. As my 50th Bday approached I decided to finally do something about it. After 4 months of a medically supervised program, Aetna rejected the procedure TWICE! Inexplicably, they reversed prior to a scheduled peer to peer review last November. My starting weight is 245 and I'd like to see 160 as a goal. Not sure if that's even realistic though! My nervousness revolves about post op life. My husband and I own a Liquor store/Deli and catering business. I'm surrounded by food all day-buying it, menu development, product testing. My concern is not wanting to share my surgical choice - it's just not how I'm wired. I've told only family and 2 friends and wish I hadn't told 1 or 2 of those! Sorry to ramble - just looking for some encouragement that I've made the right choice and that in 12 hours some of my anxiety will be resolved.

My surgery is set for June 17th
SParkle replied to jenni80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI Jenni You'll find loads of hints and tips on here from all the sleevers. I'm being done on the 10th June, and have started to eat cleaner, having been on Weightwatchers since November. I've cleared out my cupboards and have started to prep for post op with some Soups already... keeps me occupied. I've also cleared out my big clothes to friends and charity, and am trying to get as fit as I can for the surgery. Good luck with yours - let us know how you get on. Kathy -
What is the difference between the RNY and gastric bypass?
jnt1 replied to foxhound1214's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
They are not always the same. There are 2 types of Bypass surgery. Mini bypass/Omega loop and the Roux en Y. Onega loop has one anastemosis. RNY has two anastemoses and greater issues with malabsorbtion. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App Thank you for clarifying this. The question was comparing the gastric bypass to the Roux-En-Y, which I have heard and read people (including doctors) use interchangeably; not the mini-bypass. My surgeon doesnt call it mini bypass...he just calls both 'bypass'...they are just different methods. As he says theres nothing "mini" about it.There is a 3rd type of bypass as well....less common. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
Ok, so I am 7 months past surgery and only 28-30 pounds down!! I mean I know the band is not bypass so I am not expecting super dropping of numbers but I have had 2 months solid with no dropping at all. I am pretty realistic. My eating could be a bit better but at most I have a few oreos a week. I've had fast few a handfull of times since my surgery and if you look at my eating habits prior to surgery and now WOW, what a differance. What is really frusterating is I have just completed my first 5K, that is 3 miles, so fo the past 3 weeks I have been doing the 3 miles everyday with the exception of 2 days a week (3 one week). This is rediculous. If you look at my lifestyle before I am so drastically differant. PLUS, I didnt get a fill this month the last time I got one was 6 month and I am up to 7 1/2 cc's. I vomit pretty much every time I eat, not all but ALOT. So you think at the very least I should be dropping from that. I made a appt to see my doc but I am pretty upset with this whole thing. Agian I am not expecting to wake up tomorrow skinny but I feel like so much effort is put into this for very little. Anyone out there have the same effect??? or troubles???

Starting Pre-op diet Sunday! Who's done it?
nkara replied to jessicakolman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm gradually starting to cut back.. I got on the scale the other day and was 9 lbs heavier than when I met with my surgeon! My doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet either but I feel that it will give me a head start too. I just had a protein shake for breakfast and will continue with liquid portion of diet till my surgery November 12th! Can't wait
