Hello fellow December 19th sleever! =] I have to agree with the others, Premier Protein has been my favorite. However, UnJury's chocolate Splendor is pretty good too. =] -
Pre-Op Protein Suggestions

Advocare meal replacement powder chocolate flavor. It was great! After surgery you won't need meal replacement just protein so I just bought 2 weeks worth -
NYU dietician suggested up to six premier Protein shakes and 2 cups of vegetables a day. 2 tbsp fat free dressing. coffee with artificial sweetener and skim milk, sugar free popsicles. No carbs. I lost 10 pounds in two weeks and was never hungry. Those shakes are the best ones IMO. Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App

Preop suggestions

I always found that Quest bars were good. They come with a lot of different varieties, have good Protein, low on sugar and high in Fiber. The fiber was important because sometimes post surgery, constipation can set in and the fiber helps. -
New sleeve ! Day 4 ! Feel like crap !
Gr8fulMiniMe replied to making_a_change_'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, I had a hard time at least the first five days with the protein shakes. Not only did they make my stomach upset but it seemed my tastes buds changed and the were just nasty to me. I went to the GNC and bought a few of their Isopure drinks that have 40 g of protein each. I can now tolerate the shakes again. 11 days out and I wish u much luck!!! -
Vitamins/supplements

I am ordering them on my own. After doing research, I have chosen to use Bariatric Complete by ProCare Health that I found on Amazon and it's $14/month. $250 is insane when there are other options. -
More difficult than I thought

At almost 8 weeks post op I'm feeling better and I have made changes to help with the head hunger. I change the TV or stand up and move during food comcommercials. Hubby doesn't eat in front of me until I've ate so that my pouch feels full. I've only had one 3 cc fill and don't feel restricted yet. I eat Protein first and track everything. It will get better. Stay strong. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -
I dont pay any attention to protein and really would eat far less than lots of people here, and I've had no hair loss. I really believe hair loss is more a general nutrition problem, not protein specifically.

i am afraid that when i can start eating again... i won't get enough Protein...is there a protein vatamin out there??? or something that i can do each day to make sure i get the protein i should? That whole hair loss thing freaks me out!!!:help:

Tomorrow I am going to try putting strawberries in with my vanilla unjury Protein. I have been doing chocolate unjury 1/2 a banana and a Tablespoon of PB2 (powered peanut butter) and that is really good.

Love & Hate relationship

My NP wanted off the protein shakes at 3 months and get my protein from food. I still drank one a day because I had a stricture and could barely eat anything but mushy until my 4th or 5th month. Drink as much as you can. If you can get 40oz in, you are doing great. I am 19 months out. A few bites and I am done, too. Welcome to your new normal. Your hair will grow back. Promise. Metamucil in your coffee or water will help with the constipation. You can't taste it and it works wonders. Find something else that makes you feel good. Relying on food to make you feel good is what probably got you here in the first place. That's a slippery slope you are treading so early out. Chocolate isn't giving you physical energy, either. It will give you a sugar rush and then you will crash. Bad bad bad cycle. Heartburn may never go away. I never had it before but I do know. I take my PPI and tums regularly. You don't want to hear this but chocolate gives you heartburn: http://www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20443643_2,00.html ChocolateBad news for chocolate lovers: Chocolate seems to cause more reflux than any other food. It’s a triple whammy: 1. Chocolate contains caffeine and other stimulants such as theobromine, which cause reflux. 2. Chocolate is high in fat, and fat causes reflux. 3. Chocolate is also high in cocoa, and cocoa causes reflux. Theoretically, dark chocolate isn’t as bad as high-fat milk chocolate, but let’s face it—all chocolate is bad for reflux. -
I'm using the Unjury chicken flavor and love it but going to try the unflavored now. I'm 7 days post op and struggling to get enough protein cuz I'm sick of the sweet flavors. My incision areas are sensitive as well and starting to itch. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but I still hit these walls of exhaustion on a daily basis that are tough! Best of luck to you!

I ususally have a Protein shake for Breakfast (even though I haven't had my surgery yet - 17 days and counting though) and I use the following: EAS Vanilla Protein Powder (20G protein) 1 banana 3/4 to 1 C frozen fruit (I buy big bag at Sams - it's a mixture of strawberries, pineapple, peaches and mango) 2 pkgs. splenda (or 1 pkg stevia) cold Water (I use 1-1/2C) Blend until frozen fruit is blended ... it's very thick and very filling.

10days post surgery- Tips on soft foods needed!
Steph W-O replied to Hayesc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on 1/29, too. I've started on small things like cottage cheese, tuna, puréed cauliflower. I'm not sure I'm ready for meatballs and/or meatloaf! There's an adjustment as you transition to new foods so just take it easy. Savor your bites. My husband laughs at me because every new food (like real food, not protein shake) I say "this is the best thing I've EVER eaten". Lol! After being on a liquid diet, it's all delicious to me now!!! -
I thank God for the healing in my body!! Today was my first day back to work . And my only complaint is I cant stand for nothing to touch my stomach . It is very senative on top. Is any one else having that issues? I'm still struggling on getting 60 oz of protein down and 60 oz of other fluids . I read some where that what fluids you get down today effects how you feel tomorrow. So I just keep pushing!!!!

http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/ I've only tried the chocolate Splendor and it mixed up TERRIBLY. My drink was half clumps so I'm not a big fan of unjury based on my experience, but this is where you can order it.

Yesterday I got a tiny bit hungry, and so I had some yogurt with protein mix in it, and then later some chicken broth. That seemed to ease things. But this morning..... I woke up STARVING! It was like my stomach woke up and said "hey! it's been 3 1/2 days since there's been anything in here! what's up??". I had pudding for breakfast, and I was full before I finished the little cup. I thought, "yay!". Then 45 minutes later... starving again! I waited until lunch and then had chicken broth, which again helped. For a little bit. The thought of more protein mix in yogurt or milk makes me feel BLAH but I am going to go for it in a little bit. I am headed back to work the day after tomorrow, and I think I will go get unflavored protein mix. I am not super sore any more though, that's the good news. It just feels like I did a big stomach work out at the gym, and I can deal with that. The gas pain is almost all the way gone. Only 10 more days of clear liquids! I can do it! In order to remind me that it's not ALL about me, my house decided to act up and have a plumbling problem. That rocks... It's a Saturday, too. Nothing like having to call the city on a weekend day. Hopefully it will be a problem in their end instead of ours and we wont have to hire a plumber. Huh, with the plumbling problems, for a few minites I forgot all about the growling golf-ball that is inside of me and begging for food. Oh, I am down 10 lbs from before surgery, for a total of 50 lbs since this past January. Only 115 left to goal!

It is likely what you are eating. At three months, you should be on solid protein, chicken, beef, etc. if you are eating that first, as you should be, you will fill up after a couple of ounces. Softer foods are much easier to get down. Is that maybe what is going on?

Really hoping for some response with sound advice
Iona replied to lindabalseca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eating is very important. I've heard great things about Smooth Moves tea for constipation, also I've had good results with Benefiber and sugar free fiber gummies. All bodies are different, sometimes diabetes is completely resolved after surgery, sometimes not, sometimes only after a certain amount of weight has been lost. My friend was insulin dependent for 10 years before surgery and was completely off it and any other meds within 6 months of surgery. Try to get your walking in, it will help prevent muscle atrophy (you need your muscles to process glucose properly) and help move things along in the downstairs as well. Have faith, follow the path, and trust that a healthier you is going to be the result. Getting on meds now does not mean you'll be on them forever, and ending up on less meds in a healthier body is not a bad option for a result. -
After seeing the dietitian yesterday and following her instructions of eating high density protein with crunchy fruits and veggies I am amazed at how well that satisfies me all day. I'm very thankful my doctor does not require a liquid pre-op diet but I do need to be as healthy as possible. I am also to take 5 minute walks 6 times a day. I was able to easily sneak away from my desk and walk around the bottom floor of our parking garage 3 times today. I made a '5 Minute Walk' playlist with songs around 5 minutes long. One day at a time...anxiously awaiting a surgery date. I'm very thankful for this support! Guess I'm just kind of chatty today...thanks for listening

I went in and they did a sonogram of my heart first. It took about 30 mins. Then I went in for the treadmill test. They did a resting EKG and took my blood pressure. Then I got on the treadmill and was still hooked up. It started slow and got faster and inclined. I had to get my heart rate up to a certain number but I can't remember. Once it was there she stopped it. It only took maybe 10-15 mins, and was a lot easier than I thought.

Post 1 week weight loss was low? Disappointed
NavyMom6 replied to NavyMom6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all your advice Ladies.. I know I'm not getting enough Protein in.. I added a scoop to my plain greek yogurt.. I been having 2 TBLS 3 times a day trying to get the whole 8 ounces of yogurt done and with the protein it makes 36 grams of protein total.. I'm going to work on eating it 4 times today so I can finish it.. I really don't think I'm not eating or drinking enough.. I don't know why that weight really depressed me yesterday.. I should be happy it was as least 3 pounds, if I didn't have the sleeve it would have been 0 pounds.. Reading what you all wrote made me step back and be happy and just do things a little different.. Have a great day to a New Happy Healthier You!
