You won't have to worry about the junk food, because you simply won't be able to physically eat it - trust me. As for myself, I'm doing much better. I can actually eat a bowl of eggs, sausage, bacon, and cheese without coughing it back up now. I was worried about not being able to eat "normal" foods at first, but after the 2nd week, I discovered that those worries weren't based on reality.

I saw where you posted about the salad and egg "cheat". On my pre-op diet, I'm allowed salad and steamed veggies. I can also have a 3-4oz piece of lean meat once a week. So I'm thinking the egg wont harm a fly! You should be good to go! :3

Hi Stephanie
My secret is that I was required to do a 6 month diet plan before surgery to satisfy my insurance. I lost 45 lbs before surgery and as of right now I am down 84 lbs total. So about 39 lbs from the band. I do exercise everyday. M-F I walk/run on the treadmill for at least 20 min and two days a week I will do strength training to try and keep from having sagging skin. I love my band and I would recommend it to anyone. Have you been banded yet? Good luck to you on your journey and keep me posted I love to see how everyone is doing!

Thanks. I called my insurance & got a "not so nice" person. First she said it wasn't covered & when I asked again she said "well only if it's medically neccessary". I then asked her what if it was? She told me I would have to get the surgeon to send a pre-something letter to them. Our insurance company is not very well know but they are really good. I am going to call next week again to see if I get someone more compassionate.

Hello, I have been reading a lot of the messages people are posting and it has jump started me to work on losing my last 3 pounds before I can schedule my surgery !! I began my quest in April. I have everything in place except these last three pounds. I am using the protein shake for breakfast and lunch and a light dinner. Hopefully that will do the trick.
I am not sure how to do this posting and all so I'm giving this a try. I hope I did this right and someone is able to read this...

Hi Socalgal3,
I was banded by Dr. Ortiz 14 months ago. I recently have been ill and have had to several tests done. One of the tests was a EGD scope and at that time (last week) my GI dr. told me if looked like my band was up too high and maybe slipped but he was not sure. I have had no problems other than NO restriction at all and he even said when he did the scope I was not restricted. My question is, if it was slipped would I not have problems? I also since last week have had a lot of pain at my port site. I had bowel problems and was straining a lot. I thought it was just soreness from being ill now I am not too sure because it hurts so much. Would you know what this could be?
I was self pay and do not think I could afford to go back and have another surgery so this is stressing me greatly. Does it cost the same to have a reposition of the band? Do you know what is involved to have a port repositioned if that is the issue with the port? Would it cost just as much as the surgery?
I know there is so many questions. I have seen you on this site quite a bit and thought maybe you could help me.
Thanks for any input you may have.

Well the first day i was on my liquid diet, I also woke up with a sinus infection so I felt horrible. I went to the doctor to get some meds and by day 3 the headache was gone. i couldn't really specifiy whether it was from not eating or from the sinus infection....but by day 3 I didn't have a headache and I haven't had one unless I skip my slimfast optima shake which I have to drink at each meal time. You can do anything for two weeks...just keep thinking how good you are going to look! and I do feel healthier and feel like I have a lot more energy.

i'm a smoker too and there's not a single doctor in the world that won't tell you to stop immediately. i'm trying my best to stay busy and not smoke out of boredom (its hardest when I'm on the phone or driving). do you smoke in your house? if so, wash your walls and shampoo the carpet, wash the linens. once the house is clean and doesn't smell like smoke anymore, stop smoking in it. if you actually have to make an effort to get up and go outside and find a spot that isn't too sunny you will slow down alot!
as for the diet, i put myself on the pre op diet for a whole week before i even had to and have lost 8.5 lbs in less than 2 weeks. i'm doing very high protein, no carbs, no sodas, no fruit (natural sugar) and about a gallon or more of water a day. start walking even if its 15 minutes a day at least you are moving. i'm only up to 30 minutes a day and each day i take one of my three dogs so they are benefiting as well. keep in touch and let me know if any of these worked for you. and best of luck with all your goals!

What did the scale at the doctor say? I'm going to cancel my fill next week, I'm afraid to make my band any tighter.

Wow April 11 pounds since surgery. I haven't lost anything. I have been so bloated and I have only been doing liquids as well. I want to start working out but I want to wait till after the three weeks is up. I want to give my body a change to heal. Yesterday at work I was in pain at the port site so I had to take some pain meds. Today is 9 days out.
Congrats on the weight loss to date. You must be doing this thing right.

Hi slowmover!! Well things are going well. I get my first fill on Oct. 6th. I basically went through my recovery alone because my husband went out of town that night and I had to take care of the kids. (forget the medal...give me a spa vacation!!). I didn't tell anyone else about the surgery, so I couldn't lean on them afterwords. But the recovery went really well...no gas pains, no shoulder pains, it was really easy compared to my c-section surgeries (I've had 3). I'm just looking forward to losing weight. I have lost 10 pounds so far...but nothing in the last week. So I can't wait for a fill!!

Don't feel bad, I totally understand! Congratz on being at 23 lbs, I am hoping to hit 20 down this week. I am also a slow loser. I am getting fills here in SLC now, but idk how long that will last. the dr. has absolutely no bedside manner, because I was not banded by him it's like he doesn't care how many times he sticks me with that awful needle! I should be getting one again soon, but am going to do it under flouro as it is included with a fill fee once. Then I might spend the $150 for a plane ticket and head back to Dr K and his painless one poke.
Sorry about the one bite syndrome thing, does not sound pleasant. I get stuck quite a bit. I think it is my fault for not chewing well enough tho. I haven't pb'd yet and am trying to be better. I am glad you are doing well!!

Hello Bagnato Bandits,
I've enjoyed reading your comments. They have been very informative. I am going for my lapband consultation with Dr. Bagnato next week. I have battled being overweight most of my life. Now it has become medically necessary due to numerous health problems--diabetes,RA,high blood pressure, high chlorestoral, hypothryodism;sleep apnea, family history of heart disease, etc. I'm ready for a new life so I can enjoy my 6 grandchildren. Your stories have been inspirational and helped me make my decision to go forward with the surgery!!! Thanks!

Can anyone please help me! I had my surgery on 9/25 My chest and stomach are so sore I'll be glad when the gas is gone I think I'll fill a lot better. What are some food suggestions do you have for week 3/4 and 5/6? Anything's got to be better than clear liquids.

Sorry I just figured out how to check visitor message please forgive me!!!! You asked MONTHS ago how I was feeling - I was very weak and sore for about a week after surgery (5/23) but of course now I'm great. At a stand still as far as losing goes, but I have to get back on track with eating and exercise. How have you been doing?
