Well- definitely NOT covered
Djmohr replied to LisaMergs's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@@LisaMergs I am right there with you and let me tell you, when that weight comes off and you realize that all that loose skin is pulling on your body, plastics is a must. At least for me it is. I started with a 5950.00 Brachioplasty and I just took a 19 week project to cover the cost of my Abdominalplasty and breast lift with augmentation. That surgery is going to cost around 18K total..... I started my new project yesterday and I swear as every hour goes by I have a secret smile on my face knowing that I just paid for part of my surgery. I think it stinks that insurance does not cover any of it. For Peres sake, obesity is a metabolic disease. And guess what, it is a disease that can and will end your life early. Why then is reconstruction not covered? I just simply don't agree with that. As I sit here all trussed up in my spanx that hold my tummy in....... It is BS and it needs to change. Just my two cents...... -
Negative comments - not "fat enough"?
Womanvsmirror replied to Jim Paulette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got this bs from a nurse at the er.. After looking at my chart she said "im thinking about having that done, have you lost a bunch of weight already?" When informed her that ive lost 30 lbs she went on and on on how did i get insurance to cover it no way was i big enough to NEED surgery etc. But i got that from nurses at the hospital i got it done at as well....Do i care no! thankfully the few people in my personal life that know have not said diddly about it, they know me well enough to know that their opinion on my body does not matter . They will talk about you if you get healthy, and they will talk about if you gain 100 more lbs.....I hate that this type of surgery has to be explained ....if you had a bad heart nobody will say "well its still beating so you dont need surgery" -

Weight Loss 3 weeks out
limase63 replied to AnnMarie23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sure you had some Fluid from surgery to lose first. I've also heard the heavier you are, the faster you lose weight. I've lost about 10 in addition to the 10 I had to lose of iv fluids. I am worried about the same thing though, especially bc I don't have any full sensation at all. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App -

Does VSG typically increase heartburn
Oregondaisy replied to krissyleigh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 7 years out from my sleeve surgery and I have just now started to have unbearable heartburn. It's really painful. I take Gavascon liquid quite frequently, tums as well. I take Nexium right now, but I've found if I switch between nexium and Protonix, it seems to work better. I was taking Protoinix and it quit working. then I switched to Nexium which worked for awhile. It stopped working so I went back to Protonix. Again it worked for awhile, and now I am back on Nexium. I don't know what I'll do if it gets worse bc I don't have the money to pay for a revision to bypass. My ins. would not cover it. -
Need encouragement!
Saria Fleming replied to KaylaWls1216's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started this process on July 25th and I'm with pregnancy Medicaid after having a baby but I stayed on my insurance agent asking if they got the request from my surgeon assistant (obesity solution/ Longstreet Clinic) and by doing that I got everything approved in a month and a surgery date sept 20 it's happening so fast that I'm now second guessing and scare I guess you call it cold feet but I'm now on my second week of pre op liquid diet and mentality facing the fact that it's about to happen.... Heck I need some encouragement I'm scared as crap bc this is happening so fast Sent from my Z963VL using BariatricPal mobile app -
When does the hair falling phase end? and Should I dye my hair?
Kimberlyerin replied to MozzaWehsha's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Get it professionally done bc the box dyes you can buy from local grocery store are contaminated with an extra chemical or even just more water. Not to spam you, but I do hair for a living lol. My hair is failing out after two and a half months post op and I dye mine still, it helps it to feel thicker and fuller honestly. It's almost Autumn! Get a sweet fall color!! Paul Mitchell has a new shampoo and conditioner duo out for thinning hair, I've been using it and it seems to help. You see with these shampoo and conditioners you gotta use the almost every day or at least every time when you wash your hair to actually see it work and to make it work. -

I have GOT to get back on track
madisunshine1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Coming here for support. I have made some not so great food choices. I'm 7 almost 8 weeks post op and allowed foods as tolerated. I've tolerated everything. Including not so great stuff. Breads, sugar, etc. I noticed over this past week and weekend I've just made stupid decisions when it came to food. I've been seeing my therapist still so there is that support and help. But, I don't want to have the mind set "I'll just fail this time too" or "its too late now" anymore. I just feel like that's my mindset when I mess up or make a bad food choice. Any words of help or support? Anyone relate? Really bummed. I'm down 33 lbs since surgery. That's encouraging but I'm stalling. Partially BC of my choices, I'm sure. Phase 1: 90 day diet, why am I always hungry.
ocgirl15 replied to RedCheeks's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Pre op sucks! It really does. But your NUT is teaching and encouraging the right things. Chewing slowly, cutting out the soda and breaking that carb addiction. All of those skills will help you be successful post op. But the hunger for me it literally disappeared post op. It was truly amazing. I felt like a super hero with sleeve power! 9 months post op and I still feel that way! Size 6 and I reached my Drs goal months ago. Last month I reached my personal goal. So how does this help you? In the short term it doesn't. Pre op for me was the hardest part of the process. It was worse than the fear of surgery, surgical recovery, the post op diet .... all much easier than preop in my opinion because I wasn't hungry. So my point is to give you hope so you stick with this preop BS. It will be worth it and you will get some relief from this 'hunger'! When hunger is no longer controlling you amazing things will happen! Good luck! -

When did you start doing poop?
LisaMergs replied to rimmarrufo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not likely. Your colon ( large intestine) is where the poop is stored. You have about 5 feet of large intestine. Around 23 of small intestine. The area they worked on is on the uppermost portion of the small intestine, so your poop would need to be backed up almost 28 feet to cause pain where the surgery was! Now, things can move slowly, for sure- but I equate this to what babies who nurse do- it's called "gathering". Breast fed babies don't have the bulk and fillers that formula fed babies do- consequently, they poop differently. Because it is mostly water- their intestines will "gather" the fecal matter until such time that there is enough to stimulate the large colon to pass it. The babies are not in pain from it- it is simply their form of normal. Being on a liquid post op diet is akin to this and the colon requires more volume to stimulate a need to expel it. Hope that helps Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

The lindstrom group works in all states I think, they are actually based out of California. If the peer to peer doesn't work (I didn't have one of those done, my insurance required me to appeal on my own and NY has this thing called an external appeal where you appeal to the state and the state makes the decision based on common practice not the insurance), you should definitely look into either lindstrom or at least look online for sample appeal letters that may boost your case against the insurance. It took 4 months (my stuff was submitted in April and denied) but if you stick with it you should get it approved. Someone told me, the insurance always denies bc they want people to give up so they don't have to pay....so don't give up!!! [emoji4]

Hospital stay: what should I take with me?
gina171 replied to katie09/21/2016's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My hospital told us ahead of time that their gowns overlapped in back for privacy, so I didn't bring a nightgown. Glad I used their gown, bc I bled a little from an incision and I could quickly swap out to a fresh new gown with my IV in....you can't do that with your own nightgown! Can I have bread and if not why?
LowBMISleever replied to kcirym2vp@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I won't touch bread/pasta/rice/crackers/potatoes/carrots/corn/popcorn/chips/cereal until I'm WELL into maintenance, because I know that, for me and - dare I say - many others on this site, these carby foods slow down losing progress and are major trigger foods. That being said, when I do reach maintenance, I will opt for Ezekiel bread, and will toast the crap out of it (bc it's texture is wet and kind of mushy without being toasted). It has about 4g of Protein & 3g of Fiber in an 80 calorie slice. In terms of good carbs, oatmeal is a good higher protein option too with 6g of protein, 4g of fiber & 166 calories per cup - if you put some Protein powder in there, then you've really got a super breakfast! Be so careful introducing the very foods that got you to the point of needing bariatric surgery into your diet so early on. I can tell you from personal experience that eating the high protein extremely low carb diet most of us are on post op is not what got me into trouble - it was carbs (mostly via delicious Italian dishes!). Hey there, I had my RNY at Duke w Dr Yoo, he was great and I found his nurses were super responsive. Dr Park did my info session and he was excellent, but I told them k would take the first available surgeon opening. Really pleased w Dr Yoo. What I am wondering is, were you given a blue folder on the day you met w Dr Park? I got one on the day of my first surgeon appt, and in it was a checklist showing all the steps/tasks needed to get to surgery. Did you get this list? Once you have your blood work, EKG, chest X-ray, then you're waiting for a scheduling call for your endoscopy (if Dr Park thinks you need one) or other specialty tests you might need (cardiologist if you have heart problems, etc). Do you have a waiting period for your insurance coverage before surgery? If so, and you have a 3-6 month insurance mandated wait, then you just might be in the very annoying hurry-up-and-wait stage. BC they probably won't start pushing you through your final tests until you're much closer to your potential surgery date. I was super lucky BC I had no required wait period, and the surgeon had an available surgery slot just a little over a month after my first appt. But it was a crazy busy month of many tests and appointments, I was at Duke a few times a week to get it all in! But I promise you this.....the Duke program is worth waiting for if need be. I have never, ever felt so well taken care of in my life. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
yeah, I was thinking about that today. I'm two weeks post op(vgs) and I can drink without any problem. sometimes I'm scare that I'm drinking too fast, Bc I don't feel full. Full liquid too ✌
