  1. flmama

    It works body wraps.

My PCP wrote about them.in his last newsletter. He said they contain caffeine and basically suck Water out through the skin and it is temporary (results last a few days) and unless you keep using the results do not last. Regardless of what anyone says. Temporary. Basically a waste of money unless you need a quick fix for a reunion or something superficial.
  2. Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone knows how to tell if their tummies are fat or loose skin? Im 20 years old and started at 247lbs now I'm 166lbs and I have about 22lbs to lose. Anyway I still have a sort of bulging stomach and I'm hoping its fat so I can lose it. Any tips appreciated
  3. I am told is it is normal reaction to anethisi about 6 weeks out. COurse I just started loosing mine from the baby (about 4 months late) right before I went to Mexico. However none of my children experieinced this with their open heart procedures.....but they all have chromosomal diffeneces so a lot of things that happen to us "normies" do not happen to them and vice versa! I will see if mine slows down or stops this time.... I never really lost it with the band surgery or with either of my other two pregnancies.
  4. 1hotchocolate

There is so much going through my head....anixety...panic wonderiing what the iother side of the band will....mostly excited to know I might one day be comfortable in my own skin.
  5. Lady Lap Band

    Will this Delay my Surgery!!!

Thanks guys! I guess I am not like the average american these days who likes to be tan tan tan! I prefer not to go into the sun, I'm a fanatic about my skin for some reason. After I am done with the prescribed vitamin d I will continue to take a vitamin d over the counter.
  6. Hello my fellow Bandsters, Yesterday was the big day for me. I had to be at NYU at 6:30 am. I was waiting untill after 8 to be taken in by a nurse. My surgery wasnt untill approx. 10:45am I went in to the operating room, I was sooo nervous and scared. Everyone was really nice there, they saw that I was nervous. They calmed me down and were very gentle, untill the stuff through IV made me loose control. I tried to fight it...but it was stronger than me. I woke up 1 hour later in the PACU. My throat hurt and my lips were so dty. They rightawy offered me a cup of ice chips, it was the best treat. I was really confused when I woke up. I wanted my DH to come to me, but they didnt let him stay for more than 5 minuts. I dozed off again for 40 minuts. I felt my incision, only the one in the belly botton. (I had the SILS) Around 1:45 I was finally taken up to a recovery room, where I finally got to see my DH that I so desperatly needed by my side. I didnt really have bad gas pains, just slightly. It was deffenatly bothered more by my incision pain. I kept on drinking and drinking. I thought that I didnt have the band put in, everything went down so easy. I have 2 cc's in my band already. I didnt start walking around untill aprox 3 or 4oclock. I didnt have the strength. I was shaky when I got onto my feet. But very soon I got udsed to it and actually walking helped me slowly to get back to myself. Before they discharge you, you have to pee a certain amount. I just couldnt pee, as much as I had the urge to I couldnt. They took a sonogram of my bladder. It was full. It sometimes happens the nurse said, that the Anesthesia causes you not to be able to go to the loo. Only after 9pm did I finally manage to empty my bursting bladder. I was so happy that they finally let me go home. Most of the women on the floor went home already severall hours before. It was great to go home. I must say I didnt expect it all to be the way it was. I was afraid of the gas pains which I thankfully didnt suffer from. I guess everyone is different. All in all it was a great experience!:scared2: Today I had 3 plates of Soup, 1 snapple and 1 ices and I feel stuffed. I guess I am banded. I am looking forward to see the numbers on the scale running down. I wish all of you the best! Any questions that you have I would be very happy to answer.

    First Ride!

I'm new to this, haven't even had my first fill yet. But I do know everyones weight loss is different. And on average with the band you are to loose 1-2 pounds a week, so if you do the math 20 pounds is right there. I would suggest you discuss with your nutrionist what you are eating to make sure you are getting in the right amounts of protein, calories, etc. Good luck.
  8. RestlessMonkey

    Will I be able to...

No...not for a few weeks. My doc said nothing over 15 pounds for 2-3 weeks. Check with your surgeon, but I am sure not for the first 2 weeks. You could tear your sutures loose etc.
  9. Looking back at my post, not hungry wasn't the right words to convey what I meant. Thanks for those words of advice, that pretty much sums up everything lap band is about, imo. That's also where I get really scared. I have been trying to loose weight for 20 years and haven't been able to do it, so why is the lap band going to change it when I can eat around it too? I feel there is more support (follow ups with the dr) and it is a tool to control hunger. Somedays the mountain top feels so unreachable that I wonder why bother, but that is what got me to almost 400 pounds in the first place. I need to do this one way or the other for me, for my boys so they have a mom and for my husband so he has a wife. Thanks again for the reply.
  10. As others have stated above, loose skin happens when you lose a significant amount of weight. It will bounce back better if you are still young, have good genetics, have a lot of collagen/elasticity in your skin. Once it's been stretched out a lot by weight, it will remain mostly stretched out whether you lose weight fast or slow, so don't let speed of loss worry you either way. I carried a lot of weight on my arms and legs as well as my torso, so now at 52kg (approx 110lb?) loss and close to goal I have a fair bit of excess skin on my upper arms and inner thighs, as well as tummy. And my poor boobs have shrunk from 16G down to 12E and mostly skin (saw plastic surgeon for consult yesterday and they said once I get a breast reduction I'll be down to a full B/maybe small C!). I'll be getting a Fleur De Lis (vertical as well as horizontal incision) tummy tuck, belt lipectomy (rear tummy tuck), upper arm reducation, inner thigh reduction, breast lift and possibly breast fat transfer if I still look deflated post breast lift. Down from 121kg (BMI ~49) to 69kg (BMI 28) at 13 months post op.
  11. Mom of Chuy

    someone please help!

You will be just fine. There are a lot more people out there that have no complaints than people that have complaints about not loosing, etc. Just do everything the doctor tells you and don't eat ice cream. Good luck!
  12. Today was my first day of orintation for the lap band, I was told it is required to do 24 weeks of weekly visits to a prep class prior to surgery. Also, they require that you loose 10% of your body weight before surgery as well. My class will begin 9/3/08 and we have the option of doing the opifast diet during this time. Has anyone else had to go through something similar to get the surgery? I did not know the process was sooo long.

    Pre-op beer drinking

You know drinking beer to u is prob. like soda pop was for me... at first i couldn't ever imagine not drinking pop, but i haven't had it since 2-weeks before banding which was the beg. of may and i haven't had a sip, or even a thought of drinking it and i'm cool.... U just have to have a made up mind to want to change bad behavior whatever that may be.... But one thing i do know is, is that beer and other liquor's add weight to u... i has a lot of carbs in it, and it will make it harder to loose weight... that is one bad factor but ultimately u have to make the choice for u...
  14. He said he feels a "lump" down between his breast bone. I say lump but he says it's almost as if there is something there poking him from the inside. Is this just the band he is feeling? Did any of y'all feel this? He thinks it may just be the procedure (or band) that he is feeling, but today is the first time he is feeling this kind of feeling. I never felt a lump, but did feel some pressure when I ate or drank during the first few days post-op. Is it happening when he eats/drinks, or all the time? He really shouldn't feel the band itself. If it doesn't go away, have him call the surgeon. Also, he has broken out in a red rash all around his belly - except for a box right around all the incisions. It's almost as if they had something draped over his entire front side (not down his legs) that he had an allergic reaction on the areas it touched. Does this sound normal? I had something similar to what you're describing. Here's why. (This isn't an explanation for what your husband has, just what caused something similar for me) I'm allergic to most adhesives. I'm also sensitive to latex and can get a rash from very little contact with it. Adhesives and latex both will give me a rash-like welt that itches like mad. Adhesives will sort of "melt" into my skin and can actually remove skin when they're pulled off, the latex is more surface - bumps, redness, etc. At my incision sites, to cover the staples, they used this plastic sheeting stuff. Think super stickly clear contact paper. The entire surface is adhesive, but the escaping gas, blood, etc. prevented it from having much contact with the actual incisions. The areas farther out from the incisions maintained enough contact with my skin to have the reaction, so once the plastic adhesive stuff was removed, it looked like I had a box or ring of rash around each of the incision sites. I may have to make him call the Dr today if this all persists, but I wanted to get y'alls opinions on it, too. Thanks in advance!
  15. Hi all, I'm new and my surgery date is 08/14. I'm starting to wonder about excess skin after I lose this 100 pounds I'm working on. I've heard of people having a real problem with that, but I think most of them had the gastric bypass, rather than the lapband. Has anyone had any problems with excess skin? Have any of you heard about anything that could help with the skin other than surgery, maybe exercises or creams while I'm losing the weight? Any information you could give would be very appreciated. Or if most of you haven't had any problems, that would be great to hear also. Thanks for the info. Hopefultracy
  16. MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH

    oily skin

OK, so I have noticed that since I got banded on Aug 18th, my skin has been really really oily. I don't have oily skin either. I have been washing my face like crazy cause of this and even been using daily oil control stuff from pro-active but it's not working. It's 3:15 in the morning and I just got up to use the bathroom, rubbed my forehead and it was like rubbing your hand across silk, it was that oily. Is anyone else going through this or is it just me and can anyone give me some advice about it?
  17. Kayleigh's Mommy - Thanks for your well wishes. It just so turns out that I went to the doctor on Thursday and ended up back there on Friday. It appears that I developed a bad reaction to one of the antibiotics. My skin is painfully red and itchy. It looks like someone poured boiling Water on my skin. I'm now using steroid creme. My doctor had me go for a blood test and xray in my leg to make sure there is not underlying infection in my bone. Did you already have your surgery? I'd like to hear how it went.
  18. Hello Ladies, So im new here as of last week I've been doing research on the LapBand I never wanted to do the GBY since I think is an aggressive procedure so after all my research I think the best choice for me is LapBand. I have my Dr. Appt. July 24. I have greatwest and from my conversation today, they do approve it. So here are my main questions. Ok first off Im 30 years old and I weight 285  (I have no clue how I've done this to myself) SO my main concern is do you really loose weight and does this really work. I mean all of us are here because we do not eat properly we overeat even when we are full at least I do. Im being honest!!! So those of you who have done the lapband please tell me your experience with it when it comes to cravings, feeling full. Ive read a lot of post saying they can still eat everything they did before but dont do it and the only thing I can thik is " Why have the surgery then, the whole point is so it helps you and restricts what you can eat so you dont over eat. Please HEEEELP

to smoke or not to smoke

My doctor didn't insist upon giving up but he highly recommended it. He explained it in terms of healing and recovery time. Smokers have diminished oxygen supplies in their blood because the carbon monoxide (amongst other things) is bonding with the haemoglobin, instead of oxygen. This makes healing slower and the chances of infections and skin necrosis on scar areas higher - all scary things. I couldn't face the idea of giving up entirely but I could cope with the thought of it being temporary. I used Patches for the two weeks leading up to the surgery and was genuinely surprised at how well they worked. I kept them up for 2 weeks after the surgery too, but have gradually slipped back into smoking. I haven't made the mental transition yet that says "I WANT to give up" so it's not happening long term, but I am also finding that I am smoking less now than before (about half). I also found that the patches really helped control the hunger pangs when on the pre-op diet and in the post-op phase. I have a hard time telling the difference between "I'm hungry" and "I want a cigarette", so having the patches also worked to kill some of the hunger pangs beforehand, and having the band is helping to kill some of the smoking cravings afterwards.
  20. We are going out in a bit do buy diet supplies. . .lol. We will have our weigh in on friday so I know we will need to loose 10# from that point. I know we have to do 3 meetings after that. I hope it doesn't take forever to get a surgery date I am all ramped up to get going. Guess I will see you in August. =):tt2:
  21. I am on the liquad diet for 3 weeks and to be honest its not that bad. Its all in your will power and wanting to loose weight. I look at the lap band as a tool to help me loose weight and live a healthier life I know there will be hard times but they shall pass. As for saggy skin Id rather have it than have a heart attack and not be able to enjoy my kids and walk and play with them. So look at the possitive the band is a great tool to help you live a healthy and thinner life

    Hair loss

Hello, everyone, I was banded Dec. 20, 2007 and have done very well - down about 60 pounds, exercising, making sure I eat plenty of protein and other nutritious foods, etc. Lately, though, it seems to me that I am loosing hair! I'm wondering if this is some sort of deficiency. Is it something I need to talk to my doctor about right away? I'd love to hear about others' experiences with this. Kathy

    The Fat man's Execution

I believe in you..... I also believe I will see less of me in the mirror, someday soon. I just do not see the mirror as a friend yet. I will be having my third fill on October 5, I have been tight for a while now. I actually pushed this fill back it was supposed to be 3 weeks ago. I feel ready for a fill now. I was called the "incredible shrinking woman" yesterday! I ran up and gave that women a kiss. I still do not see it. I do feel smaller but cannot see it yet. I am wearing clothes that are too big for me. I am going to down size soon. I guess I enjoy the clothes feeling loose as my clothes have always been too tight and uncomfortable on me. It feels good to swim in my clothes. I really need to get clothes that fit soon. Counting the days until I get a fill. imaluckydog and I am still smiling to beat my band
  24. WASaBubbleButt

    Being hypercritical.

HA! I was thinking about this today. I woke up from sleeping on my side. You know how when you lay on your back and your boobs end up under your armpits? Well, for me when I lay on my side my gut looks like someone poured pancake batter on the bed from stomach skin. If I am laying on my left side my right hip bone is sticking out. My gut is poured onto the bed. It's freakish. It's all skin. Quite sexy too, if I do say so myself! HA! There is a huge mirror facing the shower. As I get out of the shower I actually cover my eyes so I don't catch my reflection in the mirror. OMG plastic surgery cannot get here fast enough!
  25. I think you should be fine. You probably will have to do the 6 month visits...I know Cigna is a stickler for that. But with your co-morbidities you should be fine with your BMI. My BMI is only 37.4 and besides gerd and joint problems, that's all I have to go on. I need to loose a little over 100 lbs. Good luck Kimberly! Keep me posted it's nice to hear from someone who is on a similar path to mine.
