Michigan Sleevers: For those who went through Beaumont's Weight Control Program, during the time you were going through all the testing & appointments, did you lose weight? At my first dr. appointment, he said he wanted me to lose 10% of my weight before surgery. This isn't an insurance requirement, just a target he wanted me to go for. I started losing but then totally went off the bandwagon. My final dr. appointment is this week and I am terrified he will reject me bc I am not losing. This is the appointment where the dr. Approves or disapproves me going forward to meet with the surgeon. Help! What were your experiences? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I also hate that thing. We have one, but bought a new blender bc the magic bullet is not so magical. -
Intense Desperation and Fear
tinabina5 replied to JAM72's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is also me. I'm 5 days post op for sleeve and I'm more confident bc I recognized that this is not a hail Mary. It's work and it will always be work. I've also told myself that once I hit goal, I'm not allowing myself to overly relax. If I do I'll come back to square 1 and I refuse. Lastly, I'm relying on my faith and know that all is and will be well. Don't be afraid. You'll get through this and accomplish your goals just as you've done in other areas. I also had to know that this time is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Some may say drastic and it is, but it's the best choice for me and my future. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App -
I want to get the Sleeve but surgeon is pushing Roux En Y
gottadosumthin replied to hectorlopez323's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm back and forth between rny and the sleeve. RnY is the gold standard and has the most research, but the sleeve is less invasive. I have mild acid reflux (the first consult I went recommended the RnY because of that.) The second surgeon which I chose pushes sleeve and you have to convince him to do RNY bc the results are the same two years out. I'm still deciding, but right now leaning towards the sleeve. Ask me next week, and that may change lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I want to get the Sleeve but surgeon is pushing Roux En Y
gottadosumthin replied to hectorlopez323's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My friend is the same age as you, and she had diabetes to the point where she was taking insulin 3x a day. She had the RnY bc it is known to eliminate diabetes whereas with the sleeve, you still may or may not have to take the medication. She's doing great and had lost over 100 pounds. It's just something to consider when you have diabetes. Good luck with your decision. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Waiting for my date
Butterflywarrior replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Exercise as much as possible...walk walk walk...eat protein and stay as low carb as possible. I loved south beach diet but of course a fail on the long term. The breakfast fritatas and omelettes are great. You can also try replacing one meal with premiere protein...I only suggest that one bc it has 30grams if protein...it's also what my NUT had me do. -
Yes I read and heard if u have it pre existing ur pretty much doomed to get it after with either surgery. I was supposed to get roux en y originally However I have a ton of medical problems plus on psych meds for bipolar and PTSD. So surgeon said adjustment of psych meds, chronic pain meds and those like me who sometimes need corticosteroids can't get rny bc malabsorption screws it all up with meds so don't know if you fall in any of those categories like me but it's something else to consider

I eat Protein bars bc I can't get the drinks Down but I'll try next week to see if I can, I also eat bakes spaghetti squash not all tho save for later, baked turkey and stick to beef/tuna bc chicken gives me a hard time... Oh and veggies love baby carrots lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello Everyone! It has been a long time since i have updated. I had started my journey to weight loss in 2011. I had wanted the Lap Band. I jumped through all the hoops my former insurance wanted me to. Then, when we submitted to them for surgery. They said that the place i was going to was no longer in network. They wanted me to drive 5-6 hours to go to the doctor. So, i gave up. I spiraled out of control with my eating. It is now 2016. I am at my highest weight ever. I am in pain from it and totally fed up! My insurance changed a couple months ago ( Anthem was bought out by Cigna) I thought what the hell, let me look to see if they cover it. AND THEY DID/DO!!! I am beyond excited. Mostly because i am not doing this alone. My adopted Mom had the lap band 6 years ago and it failed her. So we are both having the Sleeve. Hers being a revision. But i am excited and nervous but thats to be expected right? This site helped me so much last time. I recommended this to my friend also. I look forward to taking my journey with all of you and reading everyone's stories. 2017 is definitely going to be my year!!

Why is everyone converting from band to sleeve?
laceemouse replied to futureskinnybtch's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon is phasing out doing the band as well. He feels that many people "abuse the band" and then blame the band. Here is my theory, with the band you still have that big hungry stomach under there, growling to be fed. Just like any other diet it will work for a while when you are super motivated, but after you get tired of being hungry you figure out ways to eat around the band. I have heard of people drinking milk shakes, etc. While I understand that ANY WLS is just a tool and we still have to work at it, the restrictions or the other surgeries seem to help more people long term (not all of course, you can always gain back if you aren't careful) I didn't like the idea of the band when I first heard or it. I understand people like the fact that it is reversible but I don't like the idea of that object being in my all the time. Now many people are having slippage, corrosion, etc of the band. Some people are successful with it but lots of surgeons are not happy with the stats. -
I went to my surgeon fully prepared to choose bypass surgery and he told me that his sleeve patients are losing the same amount of weight as his bypass patients. And also that he had only preformed one bypass in recent months because everyone was choosing the sleeve. The sleeve makes me nervous because I am a band failure. I'm not sure I want to do a surgery that is not the "gold standard" bc I'm afraid I will fail at losing weight. I've met with 3 women that have had weight loss surgery in recent months one that did bypass and is very thin. One a sleeve that is at a healthy weight might need to lose another 15 or so and one that did a sleeve and regained 40lbs recently. THATS what I'm afraid of. After going through so much with the band I want to get this one right! The sleeve is of course more appealing. I'm hoping you band to sleevers can tell me your thoughts on why you chose the sleeve and if you are happy you did and didn't go to bypass. Also if you believe there's a motive for my surgeon to encourage the sleeve over bypass (easier surgery i.e. Better for him) I'm not a conspiracy person just wondering why and that's in the back of my head. Thank you so much for your advise!

BMI of 21 getting gastric sleeve... thoughts?
melbell2222 replied to iloveorganicmilk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You want to lose 15 pounds!!!!! Get out of here! This is for OBESITY people not people who have psychological issues.... This pisses me off bc you are going to go down a road where you would lose 50+ pounds all bc of 15 pounds it's sad and sick! You know you will probably die of being under weight if any doctor gives the ok! Right?? Go to the GYm and move no need to sugarcoat anything Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I'm sick of the liquids...my husband and I are watching a movie...and they just fed someone who hadn't eaten in a while, so they were just pounding it down...and I glanced over at my husband and said..."I want to eat like that!" haha Sent from my VS987 using the BariatricPal App -

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
lucky1gg replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Crybaby... I feel for you. We are in the same boat. I just can't lose with the sleeve. I lost 42 pounds in 8 months with my revision to sleeve. During the past 12 months I have wavered bw 175-185....which is the longest I have stayed that low in my adult life. I feel ok but I just do not understand why I cannot lose more. I live in fear bc my scale bounces up and down... each time creeping a pound or two higher then back down. So scared I will be 230-260 again. I am trying to go back to Protein and Water goals which even though I can't eat large volumes I have not been meeting those goals lately. Stress is a BIG factor! Don't give up.... we did all of this for a reason. Keep in touch! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Ok everyone I have a question... I had surgery 9/12/16 and I am feeling great except for a pain I am still having below one of my incisions, it's a sharp pain that burns when I bend or move a certain way.. now I know it's from surgery and it's just a healing pain bc I remember have something similar to it after my C-Section.... but this one is lasting longer and seems to hurt more.... Any ideas I can do to help with the pain???? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Michigan sleevers
melindakreeger replied to diamondchic94's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 days out post op. Definitely harder than I expected. Im starving so my stomach hurts from hunger pains and when I sip in anything, hurts going down. I'm hoping this goes away eventually? I throw up the liquid pain meds bc its so Gross and doesn't sit in my tummy well, it hurts to throw up. Whats the average amount of days your in pain for post op surgery? An estimate? -
Anyone that has stopped taking medication
busybeebug replied to mstrice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stopped my diabetes meds 2 weeks before surgery but obviously monitor the bs. I average 130 since then. Prior to surgery my A1C dropped to 5.8. If my A1C is higher after 3 months post surgery, I will go back on it for awhile. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App
