If your insurance specifically tells you weight loss surgery isn't covered...
BlueOctoberGirl replied to Mel1071's topic in Insurance & Financing
Same here...never ment never. I had to self pay. They would not even cover the excess skin removal after I lost the weight loss. I was so sick from it and they were pretty much :sucks to be you". I hate insurance companies! -
You are going to do great! Just remember why you made this decision and everything else will fall into place. I know as a woman we hate to loose the things (breast, in this case) that make us who we are but in the end, we have to do what is healthy for us. Even if you lose what you have, know there are always alternatives.

My oh My Julie! You look fantastic! My personal opinion is you shouldn't loose any more weight. Keep working out and toning. And you have a wonderful Boyfriend!! Make sure to tell him I said so!! Blessings~Melanie:)

I finished all the paperwork, did the 6 month supervised diet, scheduled the surgery date (May 8) and now I wait for insurance to approve!! I have CoventryCares (Medicaid) in Pennsylvania and I've heard they take just a few days to approve. I am so very excited! After losing my job, I was in a position to qualify for Medicaid. This surgery is truly the silver lining I need. Not only will I be healthier, I will be visibly healthier and be able to present a professional appearance in the job market (right? That's how this works, right?). Anyway, my surgeon is Dr. Neale in Plains, PA (near Scranton/Wilkes-Barre). He seems very competent and has done over 125 surgeries with less than 1% complication rate (he was very honest about it). I am struggling with "food funerals" and the 2 week liquid diet really worries me. I did a trial run for three days, and it didn't seem too terrible. Plus following a liquid diet when I didn't need to made it much more difficult than when it's doctor ordered...I hope. I'm less worried about the surgery than about the possibility of loose skin. With really big thighs and a mom-of-2 belly flap, I hate that my thighs will probably have that icky loose skin that can't be covered by a one-piece bathing suit and I'll have to tuck in my belly like it's a dang dress-shirt. Never mind that, I know I'll have to roll up my boobs like a pair of socks before tucking them in my bra because those girls will be losing mass, too. TMI? Sorry. Fingers crossed the insurance company will approve it! All vanity aside, I'm really looking forward to being healthier.

Banded Living - Do you bend the rules?
illuminationlady replied to atgoalgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have a list of Wills and Will Nots. Here they are. I actually got many of these from another poster on a different thread. But here they are: A List of “wills” and “will not’s” for me to live by: I will no longer: - Be out of breath walking up a flight of stairs - Search a room to see if I'm the heaviest person around - Give into the newest miracle weight-loss drug hype or diet - Place the blame for my weight on circumstance - Need a double-digit ring or pant size - Binge eat - Fret at the thought of going to an amusement park, movie theater, or ball game (because I will fit into the seats) - Need a seatbelt extender for an airplane flight - Have "such a pretty face" - without the body to match - Shop at Lane Bryant or Torrid - Hide in the back behind plants or walls during pictures - Use food as my escape and comfort - Be miserable in my own skin I will: - Walk tall with my head held high - Be able to shave my legs with ease - Be able to cross my legs while seated - Fit into a classroom desk - Control my food, not be controlled by it - Go for a run - because I can - Not ever forget where I have come from, I will always be kind to those overweight - Be thankful for the ability to change - Become the woman I was meant to be - Shop at regular clothing stores -Buy a bra from Victoria Secret - Wear heels - Have so much more closet space - Be an inspiration to others, as much as others have been to me They are both great motivators for me to stay away from the fridg. -

You have my deepest sympathy. I have always looked younger than I am. Even with my double chins. Now I'm losing this weight which makes me feel GREAT...but the face is suffering. I have 16 years on you...I want abdominoplasty really bad....but I'm beginning to want face work more. Do neck exercises it could help if there is just a little looseness (is that a word?)

Do you kinda wonder about the Band for losing only 60 lbs?
missgypsy replied to kab1278's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i only had 68 lbs and i am only 5'4" (used to be an inch taller but something happened somewhere). my bmi was over 35 and i fit the requirements with my insurance. i really think the lb thing is just a number...it's hard to loose weight whether it's 68 or 100. before long it would be a 100. the more you weight the harder it is on your mind, body and spirit. and also we must include your relationships with family and friends. i carried my weight well and i hide alot of it. so to some i might not have looked like i fit the requirements but everyone has a different story. i figure as long as your insurance approves it and you are willing to work for it (remember the band is just a tool) then it's all good. so please don't knock anyone whether it's 60 lbs or 260 lbs. we are all the same and we are all working towards the same goal. -
Do you kinda wonder about the Band for losing only 60 lbs?
jigglebutt1 replied to kab1278's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a bmi of 31..have hit 32 before. Due to pcos and my issues I can tell you I have to feel hungry all the time & be on a diet ALL THE TIME to stay at this weight. So I suffer to still be fat. My feeling is why should I be miserable waiting for the weight to finally get to 100lbs to loose. My weight has slowly creeped up so I know it will happen but I dont want to suffer thru it. I know you didnt ask in a negative way but there has been a lot of negative reaction to my getting the band at such a low BMI. I think if it was as easy as putting your fork down no one would have a high BMI because they would have all stopped at 31-where they are expecting me to have controle. -
letter of necessity from physician
certifiedcoder replied to mariecarmen's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am currently waiting for authorization myself but I think the key areas that should be included are: 1. The rash, and hygene issues. Any other issues, back pain, im balance etc.... 2. weight loss amount. ( I hear they look for 100 + lb) 3. how long ago the surgery was and how long you have been maintaining the current weight loss. I hope this help, heck I hope it helps me too! I am desperate to get rid of this ugly fat & skin that feels it has a permanent place - on my lap-everytime I sit down! -
Itching belly from stitches
misslisa906 replied to jackie_2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm eight weeks out and mine itch all day every day. It's driving me up a wall lol. All my stitches have come off or fallen out at this point so it must be internal healing, which is probably why no matter how hard I itch.. I just can't seem to get to the source lol. I'll take a little itchiness as long as I keep loosing this weight though -
TT consult today leaving me with questions
spiritedcowgirl63 posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
I had a consult today with a different surgeon. They had two different recommendations for the procedure. One the anchor cut and the other a standard TT. She said she will pull down the skin tight and repair the muscle. She said I have a good hip curve already so the anchor cut wouldn't be needed. The other said with extra skin above my BB, an anchor cut will give a tighter waist. Anyone had a similar situation? Any thoughts would be appreciated. -
Funny things happen when you start to age.

O.K. This is really hard...I have 4 1/2 months left to be in my forties. I will turn 50 in May! I'm telling you where did the years go! I never dreamed I would ever be 50! I had my surgery May 07. I have lost 47 pds and have 40 pds to go! Like someone said...where my other chin used to be is now just loose skin! And I relate to the other person that had the experience with the hand mirror! Sometimes when I get out of the shower and I of course don't have my glasses on..I'll catch a glimpse of this stanger in the mirror and almost run for the shot gun screaming..who are you..get out of my house! Then I see that it is just me! Boy, this all takes some getting used to! But, along with the fine lines comes a beauty inside that I wouldn't trade for the world. It is a true benefit of getting older. Wisdom. Dontcha just like yourself so much better than when you were younger and thinner. I sure do. I would'nt trade who I am today..for the skin or the body I had at 20. No way! Blessings y'all and I'll be part of the 50 group (ouch that hurt) even though I am still 49 and a half. Nanner nanner! I have a Victory Vegas and just rode it for the first time today since last fall. Of course, I live in an area where it was put away for the winter (I'm still a fair-weather rider), but today felt good. Nothing strange or weird at all. And it felt nice fitting in my riding clothes so much better. Went from size 24 to 20 jeans, and my riding jacket (mesh with protective material) is LOOSE now, baby! Oh gosh, sorry! You already know how it feels. I didn't notice this thread began last year. *blush*

YES, (which is a very good thing) I can tell by other things like when I walk on my treadmill I can now walk at 3 mph at incline of 3, where before I couldnt get to over 2.5 and I can keep my balance on my treadmill with my weights ( I use 3 & 5 pound weights). While walking I do any kind of exercise I can think of with my arms. I can tell that my wedding band is very loose. I will need to get a ring guard soon. The best part is I can tell that my cothes are getting really loose and baggy. So yes I can tell Im losing inches, but I want the weight part as well. Its just great to hear other people (besides family/friends) who are going through the same thing as me, say its ok, dont worry about the scales, take all the victories you can get... So im going too. Thanks I really needed the encouragement.

Hello, I had the Lab Band May 26th and have lost 27 lbs. I feel as if the band is not tight enough or I am eating the wrong things in order to loose weight. I know this sounds gross but I am also constipated and I don't know how to remedy it. If you know of any solution for that I would appreciate it. Another thing.... I thought with the band you could still eat what you want but you would only be able to eat an extremely small portion??? I have found that I could consume a pretty good portion in the sweet department and that is exrtremely frustrating. HELP!!! :faint:

I will have my band surgery on Feb 10, 08, all being well. I need to loose 80 pounds to reach my goal of 135. I don't have any pre-op diet requirements, and that concerns me somewhat. Nevertheless, I am spending the weekend prior to the surgery away exploring Medain Saleh, in Saudi Arabia, where I live for the time being. At the moment, I don't know how much time to take off work.

Hi, I was recently diagnosed (may 09) with MS. This is the main reason why I have decided to get the band. I will not only be healthier but loosing the xtra weight will help with the heat intolerance, horrible fatigue and help out with mobility if it ever gets really bad for me. I was wondering if any of you bandsters out there also suffer from MS. How has the band helped you with the disease? If you havent had surgery yet, did you decide because of the disease? Thank you,

New Here- 4.5 Years Banded....no Support For 3.5 Years. Lots Of ?'s
Iava replied to Iava's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you. I did my research online and I do plan on having the barium test done. I also didn't mention that less than a year after the surgery, I lost my companies, got diagnosed with Lupus (already had fibromyalgia) and my husband of 20 years up and left me and my 2 kids alone with no money and all the bills (ran off with the office secretary). Which now leaves me in a position of being low income- child support and alimony, with all the issues I have had, I have been unable to work. So, money has been a key factor. If I had maintained my insurance and had my income situation been different I would have had this issue resolved years ago. The doctors just want too much money (can't afford) and won't take payments. I won't be able to have the test until next month. It was weird because I made the trip to the ER only because I was afraid or erosion or slippage. This vomiting was very violent and from down deep into my stomach. It was the worst sort of vomiting with dry heaves. I need to get my Xrays so I can take them to my doctor. I have serious doubts about the ER doctors knowing if the band was in proper position or not. Even though I am feeling better I still want to get it all checked out to avoid issues that might occur in the future, don't want a loose band floating around in my abdominal cavity. -
Thinking of revision sleeve after 14 years living with the lap band
maddpw replied to Halloul's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi! I have had the band for the last 6 years. I lost almost 100 but developed an esophageal pouch. Once my band was loose over the course of 2 years I put all my weight back on. I've tried everything to control my eating and lose weight. I've also tried pills etc. Also found out I have a non functioning thyroid. I am having my band removed and sleeve performed June 4th. Looking forward to having band removed! I have heard from my surgeon and other patients that you don't lose near as quickly with a revision. I'm willing to try though. -
I personally don't like tats. I grow bored easily and like to make changes with my appearance. A tat is forever and when you are 65 you may feel quite differently about a skull and crossbones on your hip. Your husband might be a purist and prefer the idea of unmarked human skin. And besides, these days it seems that everyone has tats. Personally speaking, I like to be different.

I am around the same time out as you are. I am having a heck of a time taking off the last bit of weight I want to get to my ultimate goal. I am experiencing the exact opposite issue where my waist seems to be shrinking and my pants are getting loose. It doesn't make sense either way because I am doing the same eating, exercise etc.

I am very confused and maybe a little frustrated too!
Nykee replied to carlacollins's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
photonut, you are so right about the soft foods.. and the carbs and calories... I food log real real so I am aware of how it can add up but not seem like you ate so much.. I can easily consume 3000 calories a day, snacking and drinking...(on the band!) lol If I could ever keep it under 1000 calories like so many are doing.... I cant imagine not loosing weight.. I dont beleive in starvation mode.. not at 800 calories, and not short term, if your at it for months on end (never cheating) then Maybe.. Starvation means Starvation... your body might protect 5 pounds at the most... imo
