3rd fill today - very dissapointed - need your thoughts
atgoalgal replied to Whillow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you make a fair point, white meat chicken has never been a problem for me, but I know it can be for some people. You might try another solid dense Protein, but cottage cheese or yogurt are probably not good indicators. I'm not saying that it should be easy, I'm suggesting that it may help you describe what how much solid food you are easily able to eat in order for you and your doctor to have a dialogue. Does this make sense? -
3 weeks out and depressed...
TrailriderJulia posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No regrets but struggling with depression after surgery. I am wondering if I will ever enjoy eating again. Every time i try to eat its such a struggle. I always feel like my food is stuck . If it's not shakes or yogurt it seems to feel like a rock in my stomach. Help?? -
I don't ever want to do THAT again!
terrydumont46 replied to DoneItForMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i go to the bathroom and sometimes just the bending over and the slime will bring up the item. but it generally takes a drink of water. this brings it up fast and the discomfort goes away immediately. just don't overdue that day. soups and fluids yogurt you know the drill. just don't sit there until the unthinkable happens. I know in a second if I am stuck and go straight to the restroom. when I first got banded and was learning to eat I pb'd a lot, so it got to the point that my dogs left the room. to hear me burp and waiting to long to go to the bathroom so I had to use the trash can next to my chair. my dogs hated it. -
First Day on Stage 3 Puree
Crosby replied to Prada-Savassi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like Greek Yogurt and actually have been making my own for years. You can add some fruit to it if allowed at this time. It is not the sugar laden yogurt most are used to so people are often thrown by it at first. I just can't see peanut butter being a good option for a meal. There are much better options. But to each their own. -
I'm worried about the post-surgery diet until back to normal
HarleyNana replied to Feel2Young2B40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Laura, you sound just like me, I don't like "funny" food. During the liquid stage I did have the yogurt that's like icecream, blended with a tiny bit of milk added, just because I needed the Protein. I didn't concentrate so much on what I ate as much as I concentrated on getting protein in. My doctor told me I could have anything that would go through a straw. I had gravy, popcicles, s/f hard candy, any kind of Soup I wanted, I just strained the "food" part out. Just remember you don't want to lose your hair, so think protein. If you have a spare $60.00 consider purchasing the Bullet, it's a small compact blender type appliance. It's sold at Walgreens, Wal-Mart. I got one for Christmas, but just opened the box Friday. Since then I've made several concotions (sp) with ice or frozen yogurt and lots of frozen fruits. You can make it thick enough to eat with a spoon or thin enough to sip. Just no chunks at the beginning/healing stage. Best of luck to you and scan through the food section, you will find many many many ideas. Oh yes, I tried 1 of those protein things, I don't like milk so obviously that didn't work for me. If you like milk you can do Carnation Instant Breakfast. -
I feel like I can eat too much for 2 weeks Post Op
Kandis SupaStar Hill replied to Loristi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad I found this topic, if I make mashed potatoes like a Soup, ( with cottage cheese and soy milk), I can eat it, I can tolerate pudding and greek yogurt if I eat slowly, (30-45 minutes per meal). I too felt as if I can eat too much even though I was sleeved a week ago today. My surgeon and her team let me leave the hospital on a stage 3 diet. The other day I had a few slices of pureed roast chicken and broth and I ate it as a soup. I tolerated it okay, but I started feeling as if I was eating too much or moving too fast. Thank you so much for creating this post, if you, (or anyone), has any tips, or believes I am moving too fast please let me know, my follow-up isn't until the 10th of September and I feel as if I'm doing things wrong even though I'm sticking to the plan, ( weird I know!) I feel like I can eat too much for 2 weeks Post Op
GummyTummy replied to Loristi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lori, You won't really feel much restriction with anything liquid. Your stomach is basically a funnel right now for Soups, and shakes. The same holds true for yogurt. The reason you feel full with the egg is it is slightly more dense. =) You are doing fine, just keep in mind as you move to soft foods to keep that slow pace you are using on the yogurt -
8 days post-op, no weight loss and I can eat without pain
NovaL replied to etab4life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is a 3 month diet as well. 4 weeks is definitely more bearable! I'm 13 days post op today and this morning I heard my stomach growl! But I still wasn't hungry! As I mentioned before, my tolerance for soft foods is very good. So, i started chewing on more soft foods (crab meat, yogurts, sweet potatoes etc). I have lost about 5lbs post surgery but I've lost a very noticeable amount of inches in my waist and my upper body area. My face has really thinned out as well. I'm not really stressing about the number-it will go down with time. I just want to be healthy and not malnourished in the long run. It's hard to even remember to eat! And I'm still struggling with getting all of my fluids in. It's a work in progress! I feel great though! Yes stomach noises!!! My NUT said the stomach noises mean our stomachs are cleaning themselves and I don't think I've actually had real hunger, more mental, no growling due to hunger only cleaning! Yes the number does not matter! Physically I have changed drastically! Jeans are getting looser, roundness in my face too has gone down. I think being scale obsessed will hurt more and I did read that one, your body can be changing the fat into muscle with all the Protein and two, tightening and toning up; either way there is loss in inches, dress sizes and FAT! Definitely feel great too! -

Foul smelling farts and poop
shedo82773 replied to Melanie89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am Lactose Intolerant since my RNY. But I can eat cheese, yogurt. The stinky poo and gas probably the Protein. I bought some drops that you add to the toilet before you go and they seemed to help somewhat. The thing is I forget to put them in. LOL Ferbreeze has come out with a POO SPRAY I have seen it on TV but I can't remember the name of it. -
Waiting for insurance and over eating
JamieLogical replied to AWD12368's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will be an adjustment pre and post-op, that is for sure. But with time, you will adapt. It might seem impossible now, but you will find a new "normal" post-op and you WILL be able to do it. Putting Protein first has been much easier for me than I thought it would be. I thought I would miss all the carbs, but I rarely do. It's crazy to me to think that pizza used to be my favorite food and now I wouldn't bother with it. If/when I eat pizza, I have to just eat the toppings and skip the crust. It just doesn't satisfy me the way it used to. There's nothing fulfilling about eating the cheese and toppings off of about two slices of pizza then feeling full and gross. I do occasionally still sometimes have some chips or a muffin or something, but it's sooooo rare and it never satisfies me they way I'd want it to anyway. So it's pretty easy for me to stick to my protein-first diet. It will be hard to get your protein in in the early days, just because getting ANY food in will be challenging. But once you are back on solid foods and fully recovered, it's not too hard to reach your protein goals. Here's a sample day for me so you can get an idea of how I get my 100 grams of protein in (some surgeons/nutritionists only want 60 or 65, but my nutritionist wanted me up to 100 as soon as I was able): Breakfast: Protein Bar (21g) Morning Snack: String Cheese (8g) Lunch: Leftover meat from previous dinner (12-20g) Afternoon Snack: Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt w/ 1/2 oz. of kashi Cereal or granola (15g) Dinner: The meat from whatever meal my husband cooks for himself (12-20g) Evening Snack: Protein Bar (21g) Obviously I'm eating a lot more 9 months out than you will be able to handle for the first couple of months, but you can see that by eating protein-heavy meals and snack, six times a day, I get in about 90-100 grams of protein a day. -
Calcium Citrate after RNY
catwoman7 replied to c37king's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
in the morning I mix a scoop of Upcal D powder into my yogurt (it'll supposedly mix into anything, but the filler is kind of sweet - so it works best in sweeter things like yogurt). During the day, I drop two Calcium citrate tablets into my 16 oz two-scoop (fruit-flavored) Protein shake. I mix fruit flavored Protein Powder with Crystal Light lemonade, so the acid in it makes the calcium tablets dissolve (takes awhile, though - but then I sip on the shake all day long, so it doesn't matter). after dinner, I take a Calcet Creamy Bite or a Bariatric Advantage chew. Both taste like dessert. They're also both kind of expensive, but then, I only take them once a day. -

Uhh already getting frustrated
dolphintattoo replied to dolphintattoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do track is MFP and am staying around 1000 -1200 calls a day although my Doc doesn't have a specific calorie range. I also measure all of my food, no more than 3oz of meat plus 1/4 cup of veggies or fruit per meal generally. My NUT diet has as an example, Greek yogurt for Breakfast, Protein shake for snack, 3oz tuna for lunch, Protein Shake snack, 3oz cottage cheese plus 1/4 cup no. Starch veggie for dinner. The Protein shakes are part of the NUT diet, she requires a min of 16oz per day in this phase. My exercise is moderately more than pre surgery, I haven't been wih my trainer since Nov (I buy 6 week sessions with her). As for weighing, it's a tool I use after years of weight related therapy I have learned for me, daily weigh ins are a must, as my therapist says, it keeps it in the forefront of my mind. -
How do you get 70gm of protein without shakes
TheWigster replied to Unhappysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
eggs for Breakfast, greek yogurt or cheese & lunchmeat for Snacks, tuna for lunch and Protein for dinner. It is possible but you have to count carefully. -
My Doc said to add some grated cheese to your scrambled eggs in the morning (remember we're not counting fat) it's the weight of the eggs that are the problem - they need a little help going down and the cheese is just enough to make it easier to stay down...I can also do yogurt with nuts in the am - and chew really well!

Sleeved 3 days ago and feeling terrible.
bloomin_vjf replied to Skinnyagain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When they moved me to my room after surgery, the TV was on the food Channel. Really? The first week I noticed there were a lot of food commercials. Head hunger - you know you can't eat it but you really crave it. After a while, I turned on music and read - a lot. My surgeon allowed full liquids - including no fruit yogurt (banana and vanilla were my friends), sugar free fudgesicles, popsicles, Jello pudding and Gelatin. I craved salty things. I'm sorry you're having a rough time - it may seem like a long time but you'll get through it. Keep your spirits up! -
I am about 11mos out from surgery. I know I can eat more but not when I eat protein first. I am about 30-50lb from goal and still lose 1-2lb weekly eating "normally". For a reference, I can now eat 75% of a Sonic Single w/ cheese but I find that when I do I unknowingly eat LESS calories daily (around 1000-1200). When I try to eat more sensible I eat around 1500-1800 calories daily. On those days I eat the "hospital-portioned" cereal for breakfast with 2% milk, lunch comprises of a chicken breast with whatever vegetable is in the cafe at work, dinner is random as it can be nothing or up to one chicken satay (for example). Interspersed throughout my day I drink water and Honest Tea and eat a Smuckers Uncrustable and maybe a light & fit yogurt. As a Nurse Aide I move around quite a bit on a twelve hour shift so getting to a meal isn't always easy or possible. In those instances I go with the cereal, yogurt and uncrustable at work and have a form of protein at home. Is there any way that I could get my doctor or anyone to measure my stomach capacity?

How can i take omeprazole?
Djmohr replied to JosieR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had capsules and had to open them and put them in a spoon of yogurt. It still tasted like crap but it was better than trying to use a sip of Water. Thank goodness they stopped having me take them one month post op. -

1week post op and hungry
GotProlactinoma replied to Jennifer143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days out but not actually hungry. I'm having a hard time getting the water and the protein in. My goal today is to get more protein in so I'm not so weak. I think my BODY is hungry but I'm not feeling it as hunger, I'm just sensing a weakness. My nut allows Greek yogurt and veg juice too now, maybe yours does too, just for a variety for my hungry co-sleevers? I bought them but haven't touched them yet. -
I was sleeved on the 4th. I was to begin softs- eggs, cheeses, Peanut Butter, yogurt, cottage cheese, milk, soy milk- this past Monday. I am having such a hard time getting my fluids in that my doc wants me to add another Protein shake to the 1 I'm already doing and just work on my fluids. He says to try stuff as I feel up to it. Laughing cow cheese wedge and a mozzarella cheese stick have gone down okay. Took forever to eat tho. I just tried a taste or two of peanut butter and so far so good. Completely creamy Soups seem to be alright. Have to go very slow w/those tho. Monday, I can add tuna, canned chicken, Beans, fish, seafood, nuts. Not sure. I'm looking forward to tuna. Hope it goes well! LOL! I was told to re-start everything 5 days out. Everything I have is chewable. I've heard others say they started right away while others were told to wait longer than I was.
