I did. I used then and still use now, Splenda and sometimes Stevia. I used pre-mixed vanilla or chocolate Protein shakes as the creamer. Sure was a great way to get past the hunger. I did. Getting Banded On The 24Th Of This Month...the Countdown Is On :)
scorpiomommy77 replied to scorpiomommy77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well as of today I am down 18 lbs since surgery...I'm thinking that is pretty good seeing how Tuesday will be 3 weeks since my banding. I have done fairly well with sticking to how and what I am to eat. Still need to take in more fluid and protein but everyday gets better. I was finally able to sleep in my own bed after about a week due to I was still so sore where my incisions are. I had a few days were I over did it with getting out and about that I would feel sick and nauseated the rest of the day. I guess its called sliming. I would get all sick feeling and my mouth would water like I was gonna be sick but never would. Other than that I have been fine. Went for my 10 day check up and doc said everything was healing well and my weight loss was good. He started me on solids but told me to take it slow. So for the past week I have been on them with very little issues. I haven't started exercising yet. Will try walking this week and gradually increase it from there. -
I asked for an ice cream maker for Christmas. I found a recipe for frozen yogurt.. 6 oz yogurt 1-2 scoops of Protein drink mix Has anyone ever made it?

I am two days pre op diet and I've only had 16 carbs. But I'm wondering if eating a lot of chicken is ok? Cuz I can go thru out the day with my protein shakes (2) but when I get home I'm soooo hungry I just ate a bunch of rotisserie chicken. Is that ok? I had some spinach too

Don't forget your protein shakes, jello sf and sf Popsicles!

I agree with Doddie, research- research-research... If you have over 100 lbs to lose and have some co-morbidities you could qualify for PROVINCIAL MEDICAL to pay for your proceedure.. You may have to go to US Have you considered the Gastric Sleeve? Surgery is avail in Mexico... With the lap band you have to gtravel back and forth for fills and checkups if anything goes wrong, so being close to a clinic or afford the travel costs? So that being said, Roux-n-Y or Gastric sleeve may be a more appropriate option....Because once the surgery is done you have Immediate restriction, unlike with the band which may take 6 months of fills to get to restriction (3-9 fills) As my dear friend Doddie said, Good luck in whatever you decide. Oh just forgot, there is a gal on LBT who has gotten her PRovince to pay for her BAND.. Yukon, but she was operated on in Alberta and Yukon Health paid for the proceedure( about 1/2 anyways $8200)

My doc is rather rigid for after surgery consumption. Doesn't want anything at all with Fiber for the first 3 weeks. So I am stocking up on nectar sampler packs and sticking to the plain vanilla before surgery so I don't bore my taste buds before I hit the long hall. For those like me that have to do the shake regime for weeks, you might want to consider picking up sugar free Torani syrup. I've got sugar free versions of vanilla, peppermint, orange, caramel and hazelnut so I can make more complex flavors. Orange syrup + vanilla Protein = creamsicle peppermint+ chocolate protein= peppermint patty etc.

I wouldn't buy too much, cause you're probably going to be out and about after a few days. I know I was itching to get out of the house by day 7. But I would get a couple of boxes of sugar free popsicles, boxes of sugar free Jello and some chicken broth. And it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of cans of Cream of Chicken and/or Cream of Mushroom Soup. I pretty much lived on Cream of Mushroom and Protein drinks for a few weeks. My fav Protein Drink (and the only one I've tried ) is EAS carb control chocolate fudge from Walmart (4 for $5). I liked the flavor enough that I didn't waste money trying more expensive things.

Gathering Supplies
BBdoodle replied to eeyoregirl1970's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have to do a pre-op diet, I stocked up on waters, ice pops, protein, soups. -
I had my surgery on 8-4 and am losing hair too. I make sure I am hitting my 60 g protein and take biotin supplements, seems like a lot of hair though, never had this issue before surgery, Always had thick hair.

I also had my first alcoholic beverage(alright, beverages) today at a Super Bowl party. I started with the one, and felt absolutely nothing. It was like drinking regular water. I had a second beverage(changed it up a bit) and nothing. Before surgery I had an extremely high tolerance, to the point I could out drink almost everyone at the bar, including the guys, but doc said that had a lot to do with my type-1 diabetes and the way alcohol metabolizes in my body. I didn't get the slightest buzz and I was doing doubles in low-ball glasses for each drink. I was so proud of myself for staying on plan food wise, even with all of the delicious options being enjoyed by the rest of the party. But back to the alcohol, yes, I was perfectly fine afterwards and felt like I could drink many more with no issues. PS: I had a DD just in case because I wasn't sure how my body was going to react...I'm not chancing anything!

7 days post op: horrible night -chills, anxiety, fast heart rate
BariGrrl90 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hii! So I am 7 days post op. I haven't had a full night of sleep just yet there's always something that gets in the way. Last night was the first time I was really aiming for sleeping through the night. Though, I will admit I only got like 30 g of protein in and maybe 30oz of water. I woke up super late since I haven't been sleeping. So last night was terrifying. I woke up at 1130 to these insane chills, my heart rate was scary fast and I kept feeling like I was going to pass out. Whenever I would almost fall asleep my mind would like, scare me awake like an anxiety attack and it happened throughout the whole night. I was so scared I wanted to go to the hospital. I didn't feel okay until about 730 this morning. My legs were also getting numb. Has anyone ever had something like that before? -
I haven't even touched POPCORN yet. It's one of the slider foods... not .really recommended. I was sleeved on March 6th. I just FINALLY got.cleared back to the regular diet, but I stick with protein and veggies mostly... I hardly even make it over 50.g of carbs

Your nerves are very normal. I was on a preop diet for a whole month. Three Optifast shakes per day, 2 cups of vegetables at night. I wasn't 100% compliant and there were a few nights I did have Protein with my vegetables when the hunger was really bad, my doctor said it was fine. I still lost over 22 pounds that month and my liver had shrunk enough for a safe operation. Best wishes to you!

I'd like to ask your help. I am only getting in 600-800 calories a day. I find that amount satiates me but I need to add about 200 calories each day to move further away from starvation mode, trying to jump start my metabolism. I am meeting goals for Protein, fat and carbs with very low to little sugar in my diet. Do any of you have suggestions about what I might add to my food intake each day to add 200 healthy calories? I find I am only able to consume 3-4 ounces of protein at a time---- my first thought was to add a larger portion of protein but don't want to make myself sick or stretch out my sleeve. Thanks in advance for any advice you can share!

Advice needed! Clear Liquid diet.
CloserToFine replied to brookealison2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with @ShrinkingPeach. Focus on the liquid first. I'm curious about your Protein shake; they're not all create equal. My Optimimum Nutrition powder mixes invisibly so that the consistency is literally the same as Water. I'd try to find a powder that is as easy to mix. Good luck and hang in there! -
What protein shakes are you using? Can you drink isopure or premiere protein drink I know I. Ouldnt drink whey and when I tried premiere and isopure I have had no problems and I am 7 weeks out each day does get better. Welcome to the losers bench .

4 weeks post-op troubles
Mkak replied to melliratt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like a stall to me. I think I've seen every person on this board post about it at least once in their journey! I'm only 3 months out so I'm not the best to offer advice yet, but when I had my little blip I stopped weighing daily and switched to once a week. Definitely helped my head not get so crazy about small fluctuations. Are you getting in enough Water and Protein? Search "stall" on here and you'll find a zillion tips and pointers! -
Advice needed! Clear Liquid diet.
wascott replied to brookealison2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same opinion here. Get your clear fluids in before you worry about your protein. My first protein was an isopure clear protein drink on day 4. Day 5 I did an isopure and later in the day a premier protein shake. Take very small sips and wait before taking another sip. You need to learn how your new stomach is going to feel. If you feel full or stuck then it's time to stop. You still have a lot of swelling. It will get better. Also...bubbles are bad. Try not to swallow bubbles. The bubbles can be difficult to burp out with all that swelling and can cause some pain and or discomfort. -
Sleeve question - hunger hormone?
NMJG replied to snowkitten's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the first 5-6 months I never felt hungry. Now I have something sort of like hunger, but it's more like I know my body needs to eat something as opposed to "I'm hungry." It's weird, hard to explain. It varies a lot from person to person and a number of people still have hunger after the sleeve, but I think it is safe to say that most everyone's hunger is considerably diminished after surgery, and find it much more managable. If I am hungry at all, I just eat a couple of ounces of something (preferably Protein like Jerky or deli meat or cheese) and it's gone like poof! That's a pretty slick thing about the sleeve. Very helpful keeping me on plan. -
Liquid Diet Prior To Surgery
mrsjones0728 replied to frazzledmomof2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So on the preop liquid diet, what are we talking about in calories? About 1000? My doc wants me to do Optifast but it's $180 for two weeks...that's more than my regular grocery bill! I have soy protein powder at home that I was using when I would get a fill. I think I will ask if I can use that instead of Optifast. -

Also thought I could add some unflavored protein to it. Sent from my SM-T560NU using BariatricPal mobile app -
Was anyone sleeved with Dr. DeBarros or Dr. Blackstone in AZ as a self-pay patient. If so, can you share approx. price and what the experience was like as a self-payer. I asked this on the Lapbandtalk site as well, getting ready to actually make some appts and see what my options might be. Thanks!
