24 Hours Until Surgery! Anyone else?
Traci J. replied to Back2Me2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your decision, you made the right one. I was sleeved on 12/19, did not require any pain meds, left the hospital off my diabetes meds, and am now just focusing on getting my protein in. My advise, for the gas pain (which the pain meds won't help) is to walk, and when you're lying in bed, if you get pain in your upper back/shoulders, do shoulder rolls. I also did circle massages on my stomach, very lightly to move the gas around. It helped me alot and relieved the pain quickly. I'm down 10 lbs. already Good luck and hope you have a smooth recovery. -
You have made me feel so much better. Thank you so much. I am getting anxious/nervous, not really sure what word best describes how I feel. Mainly I am excited about the fact that I am actually going to lose weight. I'm not one who has ever really lost weight. I gained and have pretty much stayed where I am now. I go up and down 10 lbs and that is really about it. The fact that I am actually going to be able to lose the weight once and for all is almost overwhelming. Good luck to you and I can't wait until we see how we are all doing in the next few weeks.

3 Months Out And Sick To Stomach
MegInNOLA replied to crazycatlady8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't panic. I can't eat meat postop, either. My sleeve doesn't tolerate it. At 3 months, I was eating pretty much exactly what you are eating now. At almost 10 months, I still don't eat meat very often (I can tolerate taco-style hamburger meat but not roast-type meat or lunch meat). There are plenty of alternate Protein sources--beans/legumes, dairy, nuts, soy--that you can enjoy. Just take your time and try new things occasionally, and don't worry. Do what works for you. I ate protein bars a lot in the first few months postop (probably for the first 6 months, until I could tolerate enough "real" food to get enough protein). I would suggest that you ask your doctor about Iron, B Vitamins, and Vitamin D supplementation. :-) Hugs to you! -
Has anyone had a irregular period before surgery and now after the surgery you're period doesnt seem to stop?
carly25 replied to blkdiamond377's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had almost the exact same thing happen to me. My last period before surgery was 10/23. Had surgery 11/28. Finally got my period on 1/7 and bled pretty heavy for 18 days until 1/25! Went to the doctor and he said that it was most likely because I hadn't had it in a while so maybe I had a build up or something. He is sending me for bloodwork and an ultrasound next week. Possibly an endometrial biopsy as well just to rule out anything else going on. Good luck to you. Let me know how you're doing! -
I know 6 months is tough, but it could be worse. It will go by quickly, just do what you need to do, and wait it out. I had to do the 6 month wait 3 times! It took me 10 years to have my surgery. Long story, lots of issues. But I stuck with it, and am so glad I did. Sure, I wish I could have had it done 10 years ago, and didn't have to go thru insurance approval and the 6 month wait 3 times, but in the end I am just thankful I was able to have the surgery. Better late than never.

First Workout After Surgery
Mscarter007 replied to Sharon1222's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you mean lose 10 by the end of August? Trust me if you have been following a strict diet of liquids only you will have lost the 10 by the end of August. 2 weeks post op, I was down 7lbs from my surgery date weigh- in and I hadn't done any exercise. -
I had to lose 10% of my body weight in the first year and then show I could maintain it for a year before I was approved for my sleeve. (I'm in Scotland though do things are different here)

i know EXACTLY what you mean - i just started shopping in the regular section myself and every time i walk in a store now i have to stop myself from going straight to plus size. No one would undrestand that but us - but you are right it is a SURREAL experience - hard to get our minds wrapped around the new reality. i was at a thrift store yesterday and just for the heck of it bought 2 pairs of size 10 jeans (i started at 276 am now 169.6) - thinking i would just lose more weight and eventually get in them. I brought them home and both pair fit - a little snug but totally wear-able. I could not believe it. BEST OF LUCK TO US ALL ON OUR JOURNEYS!!!!

Thanks. I think that might be why I might not have to do the diet. I will find out more tomorrow at the pre-op. I have lost weight, and all since July, mainly in the last few months. The VA requires 5-10% body weight loss and kept off for the surgery otherwise they start you over again. The surgeon's reasoning was that I had already lost weight and was doing good because I am still losing. I have lost an additional 5lbs since I saw her in February. I am just curious.

Greetings from Seattle. I am banding in 5 days.
Vayron replied to susujohnson's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I would follow the docs instructions to the letter. I had my surgery done in TJ Mexico too on 2/4/10. I was on clear liquids for 7 days then full liquids (included liquid yogurt) 2 weeks after then solid. No mushies at all. Liquid for 21 days sucks but I'm glad I did it. Many of the posts on here are helpful but the food information is really conflicting so I just followed my doctors orders. I would ask him questions about what others had done and he had his reasons why they shouldn't do that and he had been doing this surgery a lot longer than many docs in the US so I did exactly what he said. I too was self pay and I'll be darned if I am going to pitch that money away and have the potential of losing my band later for a quick gratification now. But that's me. I do know it' s not easy. So good luck with your will power. I needed mine I'm sure you will need yours too. -
New Bander needs your help - numbness
hallfamilyx2 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 10/21. Today was my day to wake up and think "gosh, I feel pretty good". Anyway, I have a numbness on my right thigh on the outside. Runs from the knee up to about my butt. I spoke with the nurse on Friday as it had not got away. She said that it may have to do with how I was laying on the operating table............ Feels as if this area is asleep all the time Anyone else experience this or know what is going on?? Thanks in advance. -

Liver Shrink Diet causing Liver enzymes to be high?
Elizabethrrt posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was supposed to have Surgery Sept 9 of this year and started the Liver Shrink diet Aug 10. I have stuck with this diet even though the first week was VERY hard. It consist of a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch, a small fruit and 1 cup yogurt for snack, 6oz meat 1 cup salad greens with 1 tablespoon fat free dressing 1 cup certain veggies and 2 carbs for dinner, and a Protein Shake for an evening snack. I went to get my preop lab work done and then the day before surgery was to happen, it was canceled due to my liver enzymes were too high. Back in June my liver was in perfect shape. Enzymes were fine and ultrasound was fine and now they are very high. I think this could be the diet doing this but my dietitian does not think it is so they want me to continue the diet until I get released from my PCP. They are going to check my enzymes again Monday and if they are down my PCP will give the ok for surgery and surgery will be on the 30th. Has anyone else ever had trouble with the diet causing your enzymes to be high? Thanks for your input Elizabeth -

One Month Post-Op And Doing Great, Except...
tovanta replied to kczar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so glad you are doing well.....however you body is still healing....and even if you feel like joggin 10 miles don't....so leave those boxes alone for a while...no heavy lifting is one of the things that should be on your release sheet. Check with your Dr. who knows your physical abilities better than we do... You dont want to set yourself back....so please be careful.. Good luck in your journey.....we are fairly close together in time -
I was strictly low carb for the week before surgery. I was drinking low carb EAS protein shakes and eating baked chicken breast or baked pork loin. I didn't really count calories as much as I tracked my carbs, trying to stay below 10 carbs per day. I lost 10lbs that week.

New to site! So many questions!
TeresaRN replied to TeresaRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me i am blessed with insurance that does not make you have a waiting period!! Whew! My requirements are BMI of 40 or BMI of 35 with other health problems. I suffer from severe hypertension even with medications. I just have to have a nutrition consult and a psych consult and an EGD. I am scheduled for the 27th for the two consults and my doc said he would preform the EGD the next week. He said it all is good i can be scheduled for the end of OCT but i want to wait until after Halloween due to a pre planned trip. I am just scared i am going to have this procedure and lose like 10 pounds!! I know i am just being crazy but I am just so tired of living in this body!! -

My gastric sleeve is in 10 days. I started stressing over the possibility of a leak. Has anyone here had a leak?
