  1. Yes. I started this journey in February. I went through the required steps, then had the insurance tell me I had to have 6 mandatory sessions over a 6 month period with a nutritionist. Well, right after I started my sessions COVID hit. So even though I completed all of my requirements in September, I was not able to get a date for my surgery until 2 days ago, I am now scheduled for surgery in January. Hang in there, at least we know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Since my insurance is covering my surgery, I deliberately scheduled it for Jan. This way I only pay the deductible once in the case of needing to have a second surgery down the road to remove excess skin. I'm eating fairly healthy and just trying to keep in good spirits till January arrives.
  2. I feel your frustrations! I started out with a low BMI and my current BMI is 22. The weight loss has slooowed way down/stalled even though I would like to loose 10 more pounds. We have to learn to celebrate the little losses.

    Compression shirts

Anybody here wear compression shirts? I’m looking into them for after I’m healed up and loosing weight. I’m on my pre-op diet and am already loosing my pants and my stomach is much softer/flabbier then at the beginning. So I know I am going to need something to keep this in check. What brands do you guys wear or what kind? I’ve seen some with additional support panels and then just the typical underarmor style. What would personally suggest from your experience?

The changes we don't talk about

You will be adding years to your life. I only have one boob! 😂 In all seriousness, I don’t have the skin issue so I don’t know how uncomfortable it is, but I do believe everyone. At my age I looked at it as a health issue along with the fact I was losing my mind and stamina. I can keep up with everyone again and life is just more fun, and next year will even be better. Be kind to yourself, you deserve this.

The changes we don't talk about

I am pre-surgery. I really appreciate you all sharing your stories. I am learning so much reading these forums and this thread is one of the best. As I am going through this process, I mostly hear good things and very little discussion of the negative. It seems that most of you are saying that if you have the problem prior to surgery, you will have the same problem after. Surgery doesn't heal the way we think about ourselves. I have body dysmorphia. I still get shocked when I see pictures of my self, because I don't see how large I am when I look in the mirror. The first time a doctor labeled me morbidly obese I cried for days. I have been fat most of my life, but the words morbid and obese were very hard to take. One thing that I worry about a lot is how I will look when I have lost the weight. The loose skin. My husband said that he is worried that I will get thin and leave him. I said most likely I will look like an old elephant with all of the hanging skin. My boobs will probably look like balloons that have been blown up and the air let out too many times.
  8. Hi First time posting here but need some support. I started my bmi on 31 and done 70% cut of my stomach. I’ve lost a total of 13.7 kg down to 61.7 I find that my weight loss has slowed down. I’m 11 post op. Is this normal? Should I be loosing more weight? Will I loose more weight? Please if you’re going through the same please leave a comment. Thank you x
  9. My husband doesnt understand just how real the body dysmorphia truly is. He think i am fishing for compliments. I REALLY dont see my size in the mirror. I am in size 8 pants and small/medium tops. I honestly didnt see myself as big as I was before surgery either. My brain is messed up. I knew about the skin issues going in but I always thought "better loose skin than folds of fat"...well yes and no. i hate all the skin.

    4 onz of food?

I agree with Starwarsandcupcakes. I still can't eat chicken or meat at all - too dense for me, but can easily eat 4oz of high protein yoghurt. I was told to prioritise fluid intake first (at least 2 litres per day though my dietitian said I'd be working up to this for the first few weeks and that I should contact her if I couldn't take in at least 750ml per day). And secondly to prioritise at least 60g of protein per day. The diet plan I was given didn't have measurements of food, it was for calories per day. I'm 6 weeks out from RNY bypass and supposed to now be having at least 800 & no more than 1000 cals pd. As with your diet plan I was told to work towards having 3 small meals and 2 snacks but I still have to have a protein shake to get my protein in. I wouldn't be able to do it with food alone. As an evening meal I've just had half of a small baked potato [30g/1oz] (only the inside, not the skin), with 60g/2oz of canned tuna and teaspoon of low fat mayonnaise. That seems to be similar to your meal plan? As a snack I'd have for example the protein shake (146 cal/22g protein) or maybe 50g high protein yoghurt with about 10-20g fruit puree. Reading the various threads here I'd say everybody seems to have a different tolerance for what and how much they can eat? So I'd say aim for the regular pattern of eating, but eat what you feel you can tolerate.

    SEX, SEX, SEX!!!

I can relate to you on this topic. Let me first start off by saying you look amazing and are beautiful. It's a shane that you can't get your obese husband on the same page with you on this. I have the opposite situation from you. My wife is much smaller than me. Anytime I talk about losing weight she basically just doesn't support me. The reason I believe for the lack of support is because our spouses want us to be fat. It's sad. U are half the person you are now. I am sure that you can do many more multiple sex positions then you could when you were heavier. Maybe ur husband can't keep up. I truly believe that ur issue in the sex department is not ur issue but is a husband issue. He probably likes bbw's and is not used to u being smaller. What you may have to do is try and just initiate the sex with ur husband when he is sleeping. Do a position that you all aren't used to doing so that he can look forward to that. The excess skin is just an excuse. U are the same person. Beautiful. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G781U using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Hi. I'm 19 days post WLS today and on my pureed diet period. I feel hungry and eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day, in small portions of course. Count the calories of every meal and snack. Between 700-900 kcal a day. I feel guilty after eating. Think I must starve to loose more weight. Have constant feeling that I'm not going to loose anymore weight. Putting on instead. I'm 176cm tall and current weight is 280lbs. Anyone else going through same situation and how do you deal with it? Sent from my SM-N960F using BariatricPal mobile app

Notgivingup2 and Gradycat I am in a similar situation as the two of you. Maybe as a threesome we can help each other. I was sleeved Jan 26 2016 along with a hernia repair and gallbladder removal. I got down to 217 and was told by my back Doctor that skin removal might help my back. Not being able to walk due to 6 herniated disc, spinal stenosis and radiculopathy he thought getting rid of the excess skin would help. So I had 4 excess skin removal surgeries from 2017 till 2019. The last surgery in June 2019 resulted in 3 months of complication including MRSA. I was on 2 IV's of Vancomycin of 2 to 5 hours a day and could do nothing and I started gaining weight. By the time the pandemic hit I was up about 15 pounds to 232 pounds and now I am up another 25 to 257 After all my hard work to lose over 280 pounds I never dreamed I would have a regain. What a fool I was, however I am thrilled I have managed to keep off 240 pounds. In Nov I went back to another surgeon and he gave me a diet pill which has caused ringing in my ears within 2 weeks of taking it. I did lose 7 pounds but as soon as I went off the pill I gained that 7 pounds back. I have got to get this under control and head back down. Have you both started doing anything to see the scales going down? With Christmas coming I need to really watch as I will not let myself get to 260.

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

It's going great! I already notice a few differences... my feet aren't as swollen- my flip flops are loose. I'm doing pretty good on eating, nothing has went over bad yet, which is awesome. I'm pretty excited about the weight loss so far. I am struggling to get all my water in though. The pain is mostly gone, every once in a while I will move wrong and it hurts.

    Too old for plastics?

I'm 58 and I know I will be looking into plastics once I reach my goal. I'll probably wait a few months after I reach goal to see if my skin naturally tightens a bit. But I'm almost completely positive a breast lift is in my future. Age ain't nothin but a number 😉 I hope you do what feels right for you.

    December 2020

Hello! I had my gastric sleeve on 12/01. Overall, things are going well! When I woke up from my anesthesia, I am pretty sure I was half delirious and obnoxious, but I only remember bits and pieces. The first night was pretty tough. The first time they got me up to walk, I was overcome with nausea and thought I would pass out, only made it a few steps. BUT, after that, it was very good progress and soon I was walking all the way down the hall and back. I have not had to take any nausea medicine since being home, and I only take Tylenol for pain rather than the prescription opioid they gave me. Also taking anti-blood clot injections twice a day, and oxygen at night. At home, I have been good at hitting my liquid goals. The protein goal was a little harder for me, and I had to work my way up to hitting it for the first time yesterday. Each day the pain gets a little better. This morning I was able to sleep on my side for the first time in a week, which felt wonderful, since I'm not really a back sleeper. My stomach wounds look pretty gnarly. There is one that is indented into my fat, and I now call it my second belly button! Haha. One weird side effect is that my hands suddenly looked 20 years older. The skin was all wrinkly and loose. I put some firming cream on them, and they are doing better now. All I can think about is food. It is everywhere around me. I watch TV and see a pizza commercial. I look at the internet and see recipes. My husband cooks his dinner, and the smell is so tantalizing. I keep thinking if I could only have one bite, it would be the best bite in the world. I think I just miss the flavors since I am on liquids. Finally, I am a bit amazed and worried about how fast I am losing weight. Of course, that was the whole point of this, but I can't help but wonder if it is healthy, since it is basically starvation on a liquid diet. I am down 17 pounds in 8 days (includes the 2-days pre-op on liquid diet). Eek! I suppose it will stop or slow down soon. Well, thanks for listening to my story! Good luck to everyone else.
  17. It's just all seems unbelievable to me, I just don't even know how to act. I want to embrace the new thinner me, but then I say stuff like hold on girl don't celebrate too early. f**k it I'm happy and I can't keep it in anymore...... Severe allergic reation

What is your reaction? Is it all skin, or are you having breathing issues? Breathing issues are a medical emergency and you need to bite the bullet and go to the ER. If it just skin, you can try the tea bags as mentioned previously, or cortisone cream, but be careful to avoid incisions. I discovered I was allergic to the chlorhexidine used to clean my tummy pre-op. I had a radically itchy rash for 2-3 weeks post-op. It was miserable, but I survived. Good luck!

    The serious conversation "oh snap"

I don't think it's going to make much, if any, difference. The sagginess is due to overly stretched out, damaged skin that isn't likely to bounce back. But it depends somewhat on how long you've been overweight, too - I knew there was no hope for mine bouncing back regardless of how fast or slow I lost weight. I just wanted to lose as much weight as I possibly could during the "honeymoon" period, since I knew it would get harder after that (and it does...)
  20. I had RNY bypass so not sure if it varies according to procedure but at 2 weeks I was struggling to get 500 calories per day in, but always managed the 60g protein & 2 litres water specified. As I went on from 2 weeks to 5 weeks my calorie intake was about 600-700 calories (still doing 60g protein) and now that I'm 6 weeks out I'm taking in between 800-900 calories per day and still losing weight e.g. lost 3lbs in the last week. I'm eating some carbs (they're on my diet plan) but haven't been counting them as such, just sticking with what's on the plan. I don't want to eat less and lose more quickly - my skin is already looking rather saggy tbh and I think rapid weight loss would make this worse.

    Too old for plastics?

38? You haven't even lived half your life yet! Even though you look saggy now, wait at least 6 months after surgery for plastics, IMHO. Skin actually does start to tighten up on its own. I was 62 when I had surgery and even with a lot less elasticity and collagen than you, my skin has tightened considerably. Waiting also gives your mind a chance to catch up with your body.

    Sleeved, what’s next!

Unfortunately the creams won’t do much. They’ll help with your skin texture but won’t eradicate over stretched skin. Think of an elastic hair band that’s stretched out from lots of use compared with a new band. Your skin is the same. The amount of sagging skin you’ll have depends on your history of weight loss & gain, your age, how much you want to lose, how long you were overweight, your natural skin elastin, etc. But really once your skin has been stretched the only way to get rid of the loose skin is to surgically remove it. I don’t have a lot of loose skin but it’s enough. I’ve chosen not to go the surgical route. If only I could stretch my body so I was 3 inches taller I’d have little or no evidence of loose skin - & I’d be taller. lol! My friend wore incontinence pants for a week after her surgery because of the watery diarrhoea. I only had one attack & then was constipated. We seem to be one or the other. Also remember your consuming very few calories, so there’s little waste for your body to get rid of, & the calories are all in liquid form. My surgeon told me not to touch my wounds until they had healed & to keep them covered until the dressings fell off themselves. Once healed I could apply Vitamin E oil or bio oil to help reduce scarring. A lot of people also swear by the silicon strips. I used to roll the waist band of my knickers, pants & skirts down below the wounds so as not to put pressure on them. This site has lots of good advice & suggestions. Best advice I received was to go slowly & listen to your body. It will tell you what you can’t or can do, eat, drink, etc. We all go through this journey at our own pace. You just have to discover what works for you. Good luck on your journey.
  23. Just realized I never updated - my consultations and pre-op appointments went well and I am confirmed for surgery on 12/22. After talking to the surgeon, I’ve switched my game plan to a bra-line back lift (to address my upper back loose skin that won’t go away with lipo alone), extended tummy tuck, and BBL. I’m feeling really mentally prepared and looking forward to getting past the first few days of recovery!
  24. Sooooo....my surgeon did not have a time requirement to being at a stable weight prior to surgery. He did say though that LOSING “alot” of weight would affect the results more than GAINING “alot” weight. He explained that that scar tissue does not stretch as well as regular skin, and is even worse at shrinking. He said I should be prepared for this especially since I tend to scar badly historically (keloid and hypertrophic scarring). His example of “alot” was either losing 10-15 lbs OR gaining 20-30...but these numbers were for MY frame (I was 5’2” and 127 lbs at the time of consult), others with different body types would have different numbers. Had my consult at 7 months post WLS, and would have done the plastics immediately, but he was booked 6+ months ahead. I lost another 12 lbs by the time my surgery date came about. I am now almost a year from plastics now and my weight has been pretty much stable since I had them done (I dropped as low as 6 lbs below PS surgery date weight, i and reached as high as 6 lbs above during this time period. Today I am +2 lbs from plastics surgery date weight).

    Sleeved, what’s next!

Ok First of all congratulations and everything you need to know is on this site As for water DRINK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN min 64 oz is the goal. Now further down the journey other liquids can be put in place of water. For example I drink tons of Gatorade and electrolyte drinks but that is a long time down the road. As for moving for now you simple take it easy walk a little but you have to heal before you do to much exercise. CBC cream really helps the incisions Get the skin tightenign lotions and apply by the gallon durning this journey I have little to no saggy skin and I used it the whole time, Now once you are about 4 months you can begin a workout designed to tighten skin, Get a trainer or look online there are some great rubber band exercises. BUT FOR NOW CHILL OUT YOU HAVE TO HEAL WORK ON YOU SHAKE.SMOOTHIE PLAN AND VITAMIN AND MINERAL PLAN
