  1. It is shockingly different from surgeon to surgeon. Some is just light meals, some is light meals and protein shakes, some is only liquids. Some don't even require it at all and some only require 48 hrs of clear liquids only. Mine provided a list of foods and their serving sizes, which you could pick 6 servings a day of. In addition to 4 protein shakes a day. Then only calorie free liquids.

Funny, that is how I justify things too. Even before surgery. "Is it worth the calories?" haha Sweet potato sounds good too. I really like sweet and spicy together. When you aren't eating anything sweet or sugary, a sweet potato is so sweet it taste like dessert.
  3. Truth? It was just ok. Not sure if its worth the calories. Now, the sweet potato one, on the other hand IS worth the calories! (They were sold out of this flavour that day, boo)
  4. They really can be amazingly different. I wasn't even asked to stick to only liquids - I was allowed 800 calories in whatever form I wanted for 2 weeks and then I think a liquid/low residue diet for a couple of days beforehand (hard to remember now!) Good luck - some people find it really tough, I was fine with it because I was all 'eyes on the prize' after my surgery was cancelled 2 months previously.

Do you ever "forget" you had surgery?

When I'm hungry I eat. I eat to my plan which became my normal way of eating by about 6 months post-op. I eat my meals but rarely until I am full. Full is not comfortable so I try not to get there. The content of my meals are as they were 6 months post-op, but it's not as if I measure anything. I don't count calories or grams. I haven't done so since about 3 months post-op. All my choices and habits were built because of Gastric Bypass 18+ years ago, but it's the habits I pay attention to now, not the surgery then. When I am full it's because I am full. This is how full feels. I eat what and how I eat because it's what and how I eat. Ask a Non-op why they eat the way they do now. Ask them how full feels. Does it hurt? It's the way it is. For me the question was "Does eating ever feel normal again?" Yes. A new normal, but yes. Good luck, Tek
  6. I don't think I will ever forget about having the surgery. I like you get uncomfortable after eating if I eat even slightly too much food. I guess this is something I have to live with but the alternative is that I could have not had the surgery and still been carrying an extra 100 pounds of body weight on me. I understand it is a life change and if I have to feel a little uncomfortable after over eating, then I will be more careful about how much I eat. I find that like you I don't get full for very long and end up grazing on some snacks later. I find this an issue in the evening. I try to keep some nuts and fruits around or some diet friendly chips like Snacklins around (yucca based chips, less than 100 calories per bag) to help with the hunger without killing my calorie intake.
  7. My mom started putting me on diets when I was 9/10 years old. I could tell you how to calculate percentage of calories were fat and never to exceed I believe 10% though it may have been 20%. (Stop the Insanity! Susan Powter) at that age. I was 5'5 and around 120lbs at 10 and my pediatrician told my mom I was off the charts for weight at my age. They may have mentioned height as well, but my mom only heard the messaging behind my weight. Two years later, I started my cycle and PCOS hit me like a freight train. My weight ballooned 100lbs in a year, but everyone stopped talking about it or helping me. The guy I dated in high school and college told me that if he could take my brain and put it in my little sister's body, he would have the perfect woman. That still hurts a bit to this day even though I've been married for nearly two decades.

Ah, yes. You make a valid point. The calories are still the calories. The only issue I would see is being able to get fluids in if you are constantly eating all day. There would be no windows of opportunity. Especially with the 30 minute rule.

    Slider foods and dumping

That's what I thought as far as the sliders, you just never feel full and can keep eating. So really, do the calories count? haha JP JP! No dumping here either, but it is my understanding it is more common with bypass than with sleeve. I had bypass and I am paranoid about it. I guess that's a good thing though because it keeps me very aware of what I am eating.

I eat both pretty regularly. It varies by brand. However when it comes to nuggets the regular simulate brand are eerily close in taste and texture to McDonald’s. And as a bonus 5 simulate nuggets only have 1g more carbs, and 3g more protein for the same calories as 4 McDonald’s nuggets.

What to eat in the soft food stage?

What is an example of soft cheese? Common types of soft cheese are feta, Brie, ricotta, cream cheese, Camembert, Chevre, Roquefort, and gorgonzola, and – of course – cottage cheese. All these cheeses have a special tangy creaminess that no other food imparts. Soft cheese is un-ripened cheese made by coagulating casein (milk proteins) with acid. ALSO Which soft cheese is healthiest? One ounce of regular mozzarella cheese contains about 80 to 90 calories, 6 to 7 grams of protein and 5 to 7 grams of total fat. However, all types of mozzarella cheese, even whole-milk mozzarella cheese varieties, are naturally lower in fat and calories compared to cheeses such as cheddar and Colby. Here are 5 cheeses to try next time you go grocery shopping: 1. Cottage Cheese: A white curd cheese that is a light flavor, it mixes well with both sweet and savory ingredients. Mix it with fruit in the morning or top off a bowl of pasta and tomato sauce for a light dinner. Cottage cheese is high in phosphorous that aids in bone health and it contains all 9 amino acids. It comes in a variety of types: regular, low fat and nonfat. Low and nonfat are recommended since they contain less fat. While it has various nutritional benefits, it is high in sodium and portion size is key. A one four-ounce serving size of low 1% milk fat cottage contains 81 calories, 1.15 grams of fat and 459 mg of sodium. 2. Goat Cheese: Most popular in France and Spain, this white creamy cheese can be found soft or hard and has a tart flavor. Easier to digest than cow products, goat cheese can be a great alternative for people who are intolerant to cow’s milk. Goat cheese is packed with flavor. Use it in moderation — a little goes a long way. Toss into salads, top off roasted vegetables or add into a fruit salad. Goat cheese is low in calories, fat and has less sodium than feta. One ounce of soft goat cheese contains 76 calories, 6 g of fat and 130 mg of sodium. 3. Swiss: A hard cheese that is full of flavor. Swiss is a great lunch alternative to higher fat sandwich cheeses like provolone and cheddar. Chop up slices to use in a Cobb salad. Swiss is high in vitamin A and low in calories, fat and sodium. One ounce contains 112 calories, 9 g of fat and 53 mg of sodium. 4. Parmesan: Originally from Italy, Parmesan has now become a household name. A dry cheese, it is easy to grate and has a salty, nutty flavor. Toss into salads, on pasta or to top off risotto. Portion size is important. While Parmesan contains vitamin A and is low in fat, it still contains a fair amount of sodium. One ounce of Parmesan contains 112 calories, 7 g of fat and 337 mg of sodium. 5. Part-Skim Mozzarella: Whole milk, part skim — what is the difference? Part skim has less fat in it and is the healthier choice. Another Italian favorite, mozzarella, mixes well in almost any dish. Grate it or melt it. Part skim fresh mozzarellas contain less sodium than hard mozzarellas. Mozzarella is packed with minerals and vitamins, low in both fat and sodium. One ounce of mozzarella contains 99 calories, 5.8 g of fat and 200 mg of sodium. What vegetables are soft? Vegetables: (very well cooked, baked, scalloped, pureed, casseroles, soufflé) Avocado. Broccoli (heads only) Potato (white or sweet) Carrots. Peas. Beans. Squash. Turnips. What meats are soft? any moist, tender meats, fish, or poultry (lamb, veal, chicken, turkey, tender beef, liver stewed pork), eggs, creamy peanut butter

    Weight loss stall

@Robert-J Please listen to your doctor, not people on the internet. If your doctor said to eat more calories, don't eat fewer just because @LilaNicole20 who is not a bariatric surgeon or nutritionist thinks it's a good idea. I am sure it's very frustrating, but give it time. The weight didn't come on overnight and you won't lose it overnight either. Keep checking in with your surgeon, dietician, and therapist, and try meeting with an obesity medicine specialist if the surgeon thinks that would help (I was very hungry after surgery so the obesity medicine specialist put me on metformin and topamax, which have helped). People have varied results and some people lose faster than others.
  14. Thank you to everyone. I am scheduled this week for our first ultrasound. Hopefully we get to hear the heartbeat and get to see baby. As for my nutritionist I have an appointment this Friday in which I will talk to her and ask if there is anything different I need to be eating. I am currently taking all my vitamins daily plus my prenatal vitamin. I've also been keeping up with my water intake daily as well as follow my health diet including 70g of protein a day. Calorie intake has been at around 1000 calories but I know that the nutritionist wants me to go up to 1200 calories. It's just a little difficult for me at this time as I feel so nauseas at this stage in the pregnancy. Fairlife chocolate protein shake has been a life saver as I can drink that slowly and that covers 30g of protein for my day. I will try to keep everyone updated on my experience. Thank you all once again and happy mother's day to all the lovely moms.
  15. I personally don’t eat out much but many people on here do post surgery (a few months post). They just make choices like grilled chicken and veggies or salad with protein and a low calorie dressing (or without dressing). Earlier out soup is the only option of course. You can order just broth most places or ask them to strain one of their soups for you. Your menu will look different than the rest of the family but it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the family time. It may take a While before you can enjoy yourself doing this though because you are probably morning the loss of food. I wish I had advice of how to make them understand it’s just easier for you not to go out right now. It’s hard. I remember my mom not understanding that when we went out for my birthday to Chick-fil-A that even a salad didn’t fit within my calorie budget because their dressings were too high in calories. I have since learned that their vinaigrette with the market salad isn’t too bad. I just leave off the other toppings and it worked. It’s takes a while but you will find that most places have at least one thing on the menu that you can eat. And eventually you will be in maintenance and you will have even more options that you can eat in moderation.

My advice would be to lower your calories. We are still in our honeymoon period for losing this weight. Go back to getting your liquid via shakes and then minimize additional calories by drinking water. Make sure you're taking all of your vitamins. I have minimal interest in food all throughout the day, so I just make sure to meet my protein range before introducing other food in the evenings.
  17. So I have done a lot of research into making sure which surgery is right for me and my surgery consult is finally June 3rd. I have already turned in the mound of paperwork they wanted from me and the medical release forms, met with the Bariatric Nutritionist for an evaluation, my Bariatric Psychiatric Evaluation is scheduled May 26th, and I already did the seminar required. Plus since I have tried for many, many years to lose weight I have everything cataloged for my weightloss journey in my carb manager app that I used to keep track of meals, weight, carbs, calories, protein, and fat. My question is how long after the consult do they schedule your surgery or do they set it up before you leave the office to give you a goal to work for?

    Weight loss stall

I'm tracking my food. I get about 1000-1200 calories per day. I focus on protein and fluids, as the doctor has recommended. I've taken a couple days to increase the calorie intake to jump start things, but it's fairly difficult to do so. I've increased fiber substantially because of "You know what", so things are better in that area as well. I've also increased the amount of exercise, and have been more active in yard work on top of that. I feel like I destroyed my stomach for no reason now. I simply don't understand why I'm stuck. The doctors said stalls are common and get more calories, but it hasn't worked. Any other person with my body type would melt off calories at 1-1.2k per day with exercise.

    Does flavored coffee have calories?

Coffe beans have calories so hazelnut coffee will too regardless of how the beans were flavoured. Of course coffee, like tea, has a very small calorie content. It’s the milk, syrups, creamers, sugar etc. we add that amp up the calories. I hate when food/drink products don’t list all ingredients & all nutritional information. Food intolerances, allergies are so wide spread theses days & can be life threatening. Did find this article. Not about your specific hazelnut coffee but about flavoured coffee beans in general which may be of interest. https://www.eraofwe.com/coffee-lab/en/articles/does-flavored-coffee-have-carbs

    Food Before and After Photos

I finally got around to editing the pictures from yesterday here’s a picture of what I think is a heron as story tax. Also, my mom brought me flowers! Anyway, I still missing my dad terribly so for Mother’s Day dinner I made bibimbap with bulgogi, Lima beans (not traditional but I like them!), kimchi, sesame bell peppers, over sesame rice (cook rice in rice cooker, when done stir in 1-2 tbsp sesame oil depending on amount of rice and a heavy pinch of salt), topped with a fried egg. I had blueberries as fruit. 435 calories total. Obviously didn’t eat it all but will eventually snack on it later.

    Does flavored coffee have calories?

It's the sugar in the K-cups that makes it 70 calories. If you just switch to ground coffee (no sugars), it's less than 3 calories per serving. https://www.nutritionix.com/i/great-value/creamy-hazelnut-ground-coffee/60b15428794e131b82903405

    Naan bread

Everyone’s nutritionist has different rules. Mine didn’t go into any amount of carbs that are okay or not okay but they said to try to stay away from them. I have mostly just gone by calories to be honest but I don’t have alot of carbs at all. Only in fruit/smoothies but that’s all natural sugar.

i thought we had to watch the carbs more than calories in foods. So thats what i have been looking at going to the grocery store. Anything with a lot of carbs i leave behind.

    Naan bread

The one I got at Walmart is called Dippers by Stonefire. It’s 150 calories for 5 pieces. I had 2.5 pieces (yes I actually cut one in half. Lol) with hummus and I was satisfied. I am just wondering if the calories are higher cause of the protein?? I have been eating my hummus with Stacy’s pita thins and those have 130 calories per serving but I usually only have three or four chips vs 13 per serving since a serving of hummus is only two tablespoons so I figured it’s not too bad. I still cannot eyeball exactly the 2 tbsp either but I ordered one ounce cups on Amazon to measure my hummus and salad dressing. I’m still trying. Lol
