    New year new me

I took it slow and added a different food every couple of days. Protein (meat/fish) with juice/thin gravy/mayo, cottage cheese mashed down, soft scrambled eggs, thicker Soups blended, Greek yogurt (no bits), mashed advacado. I pureed mine in a machine and made sure it was as fresh as it could be especially in the first year, so soups were home made, chicken corn fed and organic etc etc. Did your team not give you a guideline to follow?

Hi there I belong to a program I started in feb 2016 - medical weight management program. From there I was referred to the surgeon in October and surgery scheduled for December. You have to prove that you are making lifestyle changes, journaling your food, exercise, understanding portions, mindful eating just to name a few things. My BMI sadly 61, 60 is preferred max for sleeve. I'm not sure how many surgeons but I've heard dr Sampath is the best only one I know of. Mexico sounds scary, sounds like it was ok? Bc medical covers surgery here. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. Here is what I have found--- When you lose the weight, YES others are attracted to you simply for the PHYSICAL change(s). I have always had an outgoing, engaging personality. It may have been muffled under the excess weight, but that was more due to my withdrawal from life. Do I find myself approached more? Yes. Unequivocally yes. Did I have a hard time "accepting" this fact? Yes and no. Here is why- prior to weight gain, I enjoyed a great deal of interaction socially ( not romantically- being married and all) from both sexes. It was my normal. Do I sit and think "well screw you, you uppity socialite who NOW speaks to me"? Yep. I live in a community that is both Upper Middle class and extremely wealthy. We all intermingle, but the "super wealthy" women didn't give me the time of day when I was overweight. Now they fawn over me. Ha! Screw them. Didn't need them before, certainly don't now. Here is also something I've seen--- There are those out there who will want to "score" with you, emotionally, physically, whichever, JUST for the hell of it...the game. You MAY find someone who "tells" you things just because...but don't fall for that BS. Be your best person, emotionally, physically, spiritually. Don't derail your happiness and success based on "what if". Don't let anyone or the fear of someone hurting you dictate where you eventually land weight-wise. YOU CHOOSE who you want to let into your life!!!! I'd go so far as to say when the time is RIGHT, choose people who didn't know you pre-op Finally, you only become as invisible as you want to be. Having an outgoing, life-loving personality draws people to me. I don't say this to feather my own cap. It just is what it is. If you are outgoing and engaging, you don't disappear, you THRIVE. If you prefer to keep to yourself, then do that. Summed up/-- you get to call all of the shots. How, when and with whom is up to you. Just don't fall prey to men who promise love and adoration just to score...no different now or thinner. Jerks abound. You're doing this for you. No one else and you don't need their validation. Totally agree with everything you said here. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. It's funny that you say that about the skinny Manhattan chicks you're around. I've been watching a lot more tv than I usually do bc I've been tired and weak post op, and I've noticed all the real housewives of OC are super into low carb and barely eat. See? We're just fancy now Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I specifically remember a work dinner a couple of years ago when one of the sales ladies from New York was analyzing the menu looking for something under 300 or 400 calories. I thought to myself what a horrible life as I proceeded to order and scarf down buffalo chicken tenders, french fries, and 3 glasses of red wine. Now, I see how much better life can be by making those choices as she did. It is amazing the mental shift that this journey requires and insists that you cultivate over time! We are totally just fancy now. Not to mention I can now analyze a menu for the "right" choice in like 30 seconds flat and no one will even notice I'm ordering in any kind of special or weird way. Living in NYC and being a professional, running in certain circles etc helps. I could tell people I'm on an all moon dust diet or I'm doing something Gwyneth Paltrow recommended and nobody would blink. Women I work with go on Soup fasts, juice fasts etc. High Protein low carb is super normal next to all that.

Out of curiosity, how was the preop and approval process in BC? I live in NS, and there is only 1 bariatric surgeon in the province as far as I know, bypass is the only option, BMI 50+ and it takes about 7.5 years from start to finish. I went to Mexico for mine, since at BMI 36 I would never be approved.

    Morphine drip?

LOL most likely dilaudid , it's more commonly used bc it's not as addictive in the short term and it's ten times stronger then morphine but often well tolerated.. A lot of people like how it makes them feel so relaxed..doesn't do that to me but does help the pain !
  9. I PREFER them, but have a hard time finding good ones at the stores I frequent. I want to be concerned about grass fed beef, free roaming chickens, etc. However it IS expensive to eat this way and sometimes the budget needs to be kept in check!

    Morphine drip?

I was in the hospital for 2 nights following my surgery and had the morphine pump the entire time. I LOVED it. I don't know why so many people worry about it. I would say I felt ZERO pain with this surgery. I went home with liquid Tylenol with codeine. I used it for maybe 3 nights to help me get to sleep but didn't need it after that. I never used it at all during the day. it's attached to your iv by anesthesiologist during surgery...when you wake up, it will be there...I had it before on a major open surgery years ago for a number of days With my sleeve, no pump but tgey used dilaudid which is incredibly potent and powerful for the first 24hours, than they tried me on the lortab which was fine and went home with s bottle... I already have chronic pain issues and on long acting narcotic so I was worried about pain management but it all went fine and it's more difficult to manage my pain bc of tolerance to narcotics but it all went well..was off the extra meds in less then two wks.. You will be fine

    Morphine drip?

Don't worry, the pain pump is pre set to a certain amount. ..u hit the button as much or little as you desire... you can't overdose I was given dillaudid all through the first day and night plys acetaminophen drips and following day I got liquid Lortab which I needed for a week and a half. I definitely had substantial pain Pain pumps are a tally better bc they give you control and remove axiety of having to wait. Research shows Pl often use less pain meds with the pump then when they have to wait for the nurse to get relief I had a pump on a previous surgery and only issue was itching with morphine and they dosed me with benedryl also the pump alarm is loud if tampered with or handled lol Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T807A using the BariatricPal App

I need to be made to eat differently...my granddaughters always tell me I have a big butt, to which I do but it only motives me to make changes in my life and this is one of them...I know the first 3 months will be a challenge but I'm going to prepare myself and you can too..

    It's really happening...

I had the mini bypass with Dr. Illan on Nov. 17 (almost 2 wks ago) He is a fantastic surgeon with a fabulous team. I only wish I had done it sooner!! You will do great! The valets are also amazing- tell them that 'Aimee from Utah' said hi! I told almost no one before surgery (only my boss and immediate family) bc I didn't want to hear other ppl's horror stories. Now that I'm back, I don't care who knows or talks about it. That choice is completely up to you!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Anxious

Hi Everyone! I go see the surgeon today to discuss my date. I've started my 2 week pre-op diet so it will be soon! I'm really getting anxious! I'm excited about the potential life changing aspect. However I'm conflicted bc I can't believe I'm about to make such a life changing decision and my relationship with food is about to change drastically. On one hand I'm like Rosie it will be ok! On the other hand I'm like how on earth did I let myself get to this point?? Does this sound like normal emotions or am I just crazy?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve Not Covered

I have Alabama BC/BS. they paid for the blood work & tests, but nothing else. I had to pay everything else to include the anesthesia. I used my medical flex spending account to cover the anesthesia. Every doctor & hospital is different.
  19. Just in the first week of my pre-op diet I have lost 16lbs. and my fasting BS has gone from 119 (pre-diabetic) to 89 (normal). I am stoked!! The fatigue, dizziness, and diarrhea stopped around day 4 and I am just enjoying feeling so well. I kept away from everyone on Thanksgiving so that I wouldn't be tempted. Since I'm a widow and my kids are grown and out of the house, I'm sure it's been easier for me than for those of you who have to cook for your families. I gained 90% of this weight over the last 7 years since my husband was killed by a drunk driver. I've always struggled to keep weight off but when I lost him I went into such a horrible depression that all I did was eat and sleep. It's time to get my life back. I'm only 48 years old and I want to chase my grand babies! With this surgery as a tool and God's help, I know I can! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

  24. The anesthesiologist will give you plenty of meds to relax you and you will never know you are "going under." I remember getting ready to leave the pre-op area then the next thing I remember is waking up in recovery. Try not to worry Sent from my iPhone yes I don't even remember going under I remember going into the operating room them say we're gunna give u something to relax u and then waking up in recovery lol. As soon as I woke up I asked to walk they said I had to be moved to my room before I could walk so they moved me to a room right away when they said are u ready to get into ur bed(from the stretcher) I said no I'm ready to take a walk. They were shocked. I was called the role model patient. I didn't sleep at all not even thru the night I just kept walking. I've never been away from my kids so I couldn't sleep without them. I was supposed to be there two days I went home the next day bc I was doing so well. It went so much better then I assumed I had gastric bypass. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
