    NSV shout outs

My latest NSV has to do with my dancing. I have posted that I started ball room dance classes last September. They are so much fun. Lately after our Wednesday lessons, a group of us have gone to a bar so we can dance some more. I have never been big into bars and I don't drink but I do love to dance. The past few times I have gone, I am not even in there 5 minutes before I have some guy wanting to buy me drinks and asking me to dance. This just seems so odd to me. Years ago when I use to go out, I felt like the biggest wall flower sitting around watching everyone else have fun.

    NSV shout outs

I joined my husband's work soccer team and am not afraid of being unable to keep up with everyone else! I'm not at my goal weight but I *know* I am way fitter than I was. I feel like I can participate and make new friends and not drag everyone else down or have them all wishing I wasn't there! It's not just my increased fitness level at this smaller size that's my NSV... it's the confidence to put myself out there!

Great thread.....always makes me grin to read the cool stories in here. Well.....had a NSV myself yesterday. I put on a pair of cargo shorts and shirt and wore 'em out and about on my excursions. The NSV part of this is that I haven't worn shorts outside of the house in years.....years. Oh, and the shirt.....was a size that I didn't think I'd be able to wear until late this coming Summer. It's actually too baggy right now. Fun stuff.

My NSV today is that I ran my first 5K. I not only ran it but, I was able to run 13 min miles. I could not believe it.

Wowser, some of those I have acheived, some not yet, but a mini-NSV for me, noticing how the clothing suggestions grow so much at 18 or 20, it's like a Brand-new World to quote a Disney Song. Am really enjoying putting Pukey Green, Liver and Baby Poop Yellow prints behind me, and running towards both pastels and vibrant yet feminine shades. No more Good Enough for this Golden 🐤 chick!

    NSV shout outs

This is my first NSV I've posted, but I had 2 in one day on Monday. First, before surgery I was a sweets-aholic. No chocolate was safe in my presence. I devoured candy bars like they were evil demons that must be demolished as quickly as possible. Since surgery, I was afraid to have anything like that around. My 7-year old, though, wanted some Reese's pb cups at the grocery store. He likes to buy Lunchables just for the treats, but never eats them, so we made a deal that he could get the candy, but no Lunchables, and he only gets them after he eats a decent meal. So, we've had them sitting in the fridge for about 2 weeks, and I haven't touched them. I haven't really even thought about them until I realized how amazing that was. Second, I was at work, wearing my smallest pair of scrubs (which are still huge, but the smallest that I own right now), and a co-worker said, "Wow, your scrubs are getting really big on you. How much have you lost?" The scale has been a little slow these past few days, so it was really nice to hear. Yay for NSVs!

Here's my most recent NSV! Went out with a "friend" the other night, and wanted to dress to impress. I think I managed it! Oh, and the shoes are the first heels I've worn in years! I wore them till 4 in the morning without too much pain!

Amanda: new picture please. I think I agree with you, I saw a pict of myself at Christmas and I cannot believe it is me. I look so young. In all my picts of the last few years I look so old. Just the weight off takes the age off. Even though close up you can see the wrinkles, it does nto matter. Initially, you think young. That is a big deal for me. I do not feel old now. I am full of energy, and no where near so achey as I was 50+ lbs ago. Wish I could post pictures. I am gonna figure that out soon. My own NSV for today: I crossed my legs at the knee. I did not even know I was doing it. My Husband noticed and commented. Woowzaaa!

6 months post sleeve and some awesome NSVs ~ Started at a size 28/4X, just the other day I bought a pair of 18 pants on clearance ($5) and just for fun I tried them on.....and they FIT!!!!! ~I noticed that there is space between my toes...... ~ I can sit in a booth at restaurants ~ I can keep up with my preschool class, 12 boys, and 4 girls......busy, busy, busy ~ I can walk without getting winded or my back hurting. ~ I realized that this year I will be able to shop for a bathing suit at a regular store, and not have to buy one at Lane Bryant or online!! ~ My wedding rings that I hadn't worn for 4 years, I put on in August (1 month out) now they are in danger of falling off, so I will have to find a safe place ~ I promised that when I lost 100 lbs, I would get a cat! Her name is Peaches and I got her at a rescue a couple weeks ago.

Sell your old clothes on Poshmark, and then you'll have money to buy new ones! That's what I've been doing, it works great! Oh, for my latest NSV: Went shopping at American Eagle two days ago, a store that I always liked pre-surgery, but couldn't fit into any of their clothes... anyway I had tried on a size 8 jeans, and they were too big! I had to go to a size 6!

Thank you all for your opinions! It is such a help since I was so undecided. I have always been leaning toward the one without the ruffles as well but everyone's opinions have helped push me in the direction of the other one! Shortgal, my future mother and sister-in-law like that one, too. It IS different and that would make it stand out, but I just don't think it flatters my, as I put it, "24 hour glass figure"!! Thank you all for your compliments. It makes me feel so good to hear people say I have a "small waist"! It's been a long time since I've been told that! I guess even if you don't lose many pounds you can still lose inches! A fabulous NSV for me!! Welcome to you Sharon. Your weight loss is wonderful, believe me! Everyone on this forum is going through the same thing and everyone here is so wonderful! They are all so very supportive and have helped me through some rough times. I couldn't have got this far without the support of my "slow loser friends"!!! Stick with us and post often with updates. You'll be glad you did!!

    Calling all A11s!!

Hello August bander!! How is everyone? Its 6 months today I got my band. I have been doing well and loving the band (sometimes) It is kinda tight and I like it like that, it helps me make the right decision to eat. Old habits or you can say bad habits are hard to break. I log my food everyday on my fitness pal, I look for help and advice from friends or family when I struggle. I was never a breakfast person and now with the band I find I dont like to eat breakfast so I have a protein shake every morning. I try any and all shakes and usually stick with the isopure, 2 splenda in a blender. Lunch is usually Chobani with some protein granola in it, by lunch I have usually had my protein for the day. Dinner is always different. Meals I enjoy CHILI always is good, chicken depending on how its cooked, turkey sausage keilbasa with kraut, I love the crockpot and try to mix up meals in there. Crock cooking helps because my daughter is 3.5 and son is 17 months doesnt leave me much time to do much when I am home with them and my husbands days off rotate so im alone and not always easy and by the time I get them in bed it is almost 8:30/9pm and I'm done by then!!!! I started couch to 5k, I was religious with it but its been cold and I have weened off a lil in the following weeks. Since my husband leaves for work by 6am I have to be up and dressed to run by 5/5:15AM if I wanna get it in. I have been doing it usually 3 days per week and go to the gym once a week to get in a Zumba class. I love it and lots of fun! The weight was slowly coming off and I am happy with that. i am still not done and still a work in progress LOL I have lost 49 pounds and I started at 236, was 231 the day of surgery and now I am at 187..ugh 1 lb away from 50...SOON!!!! Once I started running the weight flies off, so anyone thinking they cannot do it, you can and its a basic simple training program that works on interval run for a minute or two then walk then run...interval training has worked wonders for me. I am so proud of all of us and we are keeping our heads high and doing it! Somedays are better than others, some things are tolerated one day and not the next. I still hate eating with people, I go out to lunch with coworkers but usually play it safe and get a chili. I skip most carbs- bread, pasta, pizza, bagels, cereal (all was a staple everyday or once a week) I have changed everything I used to eat and feel terrific. I on occasion will eat slider food and regret it but for the most part I follow the "rules" I stay focused on my goal, i am liking my willpower, determination, and my 50lb weight loss verses the guilt I would feel for going to mcdonalds and pigging out, or the clothes not fitting and me getting angry or upset with myself and saying "thats it Im going on a diet" and failing the next day. Its not always easy but the NSV's I have had these 6 months will carry me another 6. I like walking into a regular store and buying clothes at Macys, not sweating from a flight of stairs, and most of all even if the scale doesnt move I know I am not on a diet but I have changed my lifestyle for the better. Wishing eveyone the same success!!! I have an incredible support system from online bander support groups, friends, neighbors, family, books, LBT, and my husband. I am here if anyone nees any support, advice, or a kick in the arse LOL best of luck A11's keep on with your journey and dont ever quit! keep your eye on the prize!

Well....I am pretty sure it has been a month since I was last here. I went for fill four yesterday. I thought fill three was pretty bad. Well fill four has me TIGHT!! I wll truely have to do the liquid, mush and slow solids. I have lost another 4 pounds but better than that I am in a size 16 jeans. So my NSV is more exciting. Hoping and praying all are doing well and have a very Merry Christmas!!

Kristen, throw that Halloween candy in the garbage! That's what you would tell me so do it for yourself. We're supposed to get Papaya Enzyme. I got mine at Walmart and the brand name is Spring Valley and they are chewables. It's not very expensive for 180 tablets and the holistic Dr I spoke to yesterday said we can take 6 if needed. Caryn, I know that protein drinks do that to me too. Now I need to cut out the black beans in my hubby's wonderful turkey chili and no more sweet potato fries for me. I just started the probiotic and maybe between that, watching what I am eating more carefully and the Papaya Enzymes i can reduce the gas. Sorry about TMI. Last night we ordered Outback takeout with friends. I was amazed that I actually stopped and felt full after les than half of my petie filet and less 1/4 of a baked potato. I ate all my salad with their Tangy Tomato dressing and felt full so I stopped without eating even half of my dinner. A real NSV for me. I thought their dressing was low fat so I used it. NOT! That house salad was 216 calories. I should have checked it before I ate it. If I know I am going somewhere out to eat I always check to see if their menu is online. If I had, I would have taken off the croutons and used my own dressing. I really did enjoy it but looking back I should have been more careful. Since I had not eaten much yeserday I was 156 calories over my 1100 so it will probably be OK. Overeating on salad, dumb mistake. :mad3: We can do this! Blessings, GG

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Thanks everyone for the update on the port pain.. the new pain that we are all dealing with and kind wondering how everyone else was doing with it (that was for Phil:):frown: I am happy to say that the port pain has subsided 6 weeks post surgery... I am also happy to say that I am down 22 pounds 6 weeks post surger and now... drumroll... Clothes are getting LOOSE!!!! I am not ready to downsize yet.. but... those tight skirts.. well now I have the wiggle room (probably my true size now:):frown: but you didn't here that from me.... I will tell you that I am on the site abuot every 2-3 days now and really do look to see how everyone is doing.. especially us Jan 2010 bandsters... Today I went to get some cortisone shots in the knee and the doc could tell I lost weight.. that was a NSV... I love telling everyone I had the band.. I am sharing it with everyone... Why.. well.. just like everyone here.. I have struggled with weight.. and for the first time in my life.. weight is coming off without the stress that usually came with the diet.. or the screaming hunger pangs.... I also know that I could be taking it off faster if I desired... but I am happy with the process.. I don't care if it is one pound a week.. because losing one pound a week is better than gaining a pound a week.. and better than staying status quo... However, that being said.. SPRING is in the air.. the weather is warming up here in Wisconsin.. and with my new found weightloss I want to start going for my walks again.. I am feeling physically and mentally refreshed... I love my "Buddy Aid" friend in my lap band.. I will forever be loyal.... My only regret..... why didn't I do this so long ago... but alas.. this is my journey... and even if I didn't lose another pound I would be happy.. because the food is not controlling me anymore... I can have time to plan a meal instead of grabbing something to fill the belly.... So let's hear it... who else is happy today and why?

    Slow Losers - Unite!

I think you hit the problem square on there Trish, we discount our NSVs precicely because the scale says we are not good enough. It doesn't matter that you've lost 27 inches because the scale says your are not down enough, whatever "enough" is. You know that all these accomplishments are truely amazing on their own, and when combined with each other, they become so much more powerful because they tell more of the true picture. They help give our journey dimention and shape, they add texture and shadow that the numbers on the scale simply cannot give, all on their own. I know that it is easy to discount them, they are not a socitial approved measure of success, like pound on the scale are. But pounds are just as arbirary a unit of measure as kegs and stones and Kg and firkins and pfunds and atomic mass. They are conventions that we have agreed to judge ourselves and others by. Arbitrary as they may be, we give them power they do not deserve. This is why I always list my weight in some weird other unit of measurement. To attmpt to take power away from the scale, to take power away from the scale. And if I can take it away from the external, I can reclaim it for myself.

    Slow Losers - Unite!

vines honey! it must be going around because I also am soooooo freakin bummed and sad and discouraged! You name it and I'm feeling it. I'm starting to realize your frustrations with tickers vines because everytime I lose a lb and get soo excited about changing my ticker a few days later that pound shows back up - sometimes 2-3lbs and I can't get my scale back down. my ticker says 281 but for the last week I've been back at 284...........aaaaarrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh. I am starting a food journal - something's gotta give!!!! I just had a fill 2 weeks ago - I have good restriction - I'm not eating alot but still the scale doesn't move. I eat a whole lot less than I did pre-band, yet still no weight loss or NSV's. I'm sooo sad and yes sick of everyone else whining about how they're not losing when they've lost so much more than us! A girl who was banded the same day WITH ME and had a lot to lose like me admitted she doesn't excercise or drink as much Water as she should and she's lost 45lbs and is all upset and here I am fighting for 11lbs (((((( I really just want to scream F*CK THE WORLD! and I am totally not that type of person (well to at least say it out loud lol). So many frustrations today - one just leads to another. I'm mad at my boyfriend for telling me I need to eat lite and drink more water - and he told me to do excercises while I'm at work! I told him I was not going to excercise in front of my co-workers in my uncomfortable work clothes and he says oh God forbid that! How can I be mad at him when really he's only telling the truth I already know..............it only re-inforces how I should be further along than I am. I was just hoping that the weight loss would bring the motivation needed for more excercise. I'm sad and discouraged - I've got to change some things because like I said I'm at a good level of restriction now so I can't say its because I haven't hit the sweet spot.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Marie - Hi & Welcome I was 52 when banded my insurance required an overnight stay in the hospital - I think my surgery was an hour or so - I was back to work day 6 - desk job.. Saggy skin most likely but this is the way I think about it - what's worse the fat or saggy skin - the saggy skin isn't going to kill you but the fat will. Plus that's what they make plastic surgeron for.. I have lost 105 lbs - my arms are pretty saggy - boob too tummy not too bad and legs - well at 53 I'm not wearing mini skirts so who care.. Can't help on the doc issue - I live in Cali Lapbandnana- Welcome and congrats on your weight loss you are doing great.. MaryD Hi & Welcome too you are doing great 13 lbs in less than 3 weeks that's 4.33 a week - that is just super - your weight loss will depend on a lot of things how much you have to lose - your food intact - and your physical activitiy.. I know that you feel you should be losing 10 lbs a day but remember we didn't gain 10 lbs in one day so it's not going to come off that fast... Lapbanders on the average lose 1 - 2 lbs a week.. Some lose faster some lose slower - it's very individual - Heck I gotta tell you I lost 100 in 11 months and some weeks I only lost 1/2 lbs - I will tell you that I was alway happy with those 1/2 lbs losses - they added up real fast.. Nancy you are so great - you will know if you have restricition once you eat some solid protein.. Fran - CONGRATS.... :tt1: Lizalee - What a GREAT NSV... Happy for you... Orea - Yep each stage gets old after awhile - how much longer to regular food. Lori - CONGRATULATIONS  You should have bought the large cuz before you know it that xl is going to be too big... Lizalee - I know about buying stuff that in a month or 2 was too big... But I work in an office and have to semi dress and it felt so good going from 18/20's to 14's then 12's then 10's then 8's then 6's ... I couldn't help myself... Well my gf's who where 14 12 10 & 8 have some new clothes and the 2X went to the local shelter.. Becky - Yet lapband talk is the best.. Candice is right - a year from now you will be a new person.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Congrates Long !!!! Yep those things are big for us - might not be for others but getting to onelander - having less than 100 to lose - Milestones.. Great on the exercise  Yesterday I realized that I have been going to the gym for one solid year - that is a huge NSV - I have never stuck with anything for a year - 2 weeks from today will be my 1 yr anniversary - then in 2 weeks going to Mall of America to met 4 other Lucky #7 Banders... Life is Good

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Phyll- Sorry to hear about your son. It has to be frustrating, I have a teacher that I work with that is going through the exact same thing, but I don't think that bond was quite that high. As for the crying, I have been the same way lately. Mine is mostly about hating my job, but I will see a sad commercial or show or hear a sad song and I get all choked up. Here is a funny story that might get you to laugh a little bit. I just got done doing my workout routine with the exercise ball and weights. I was doing push ups and I go until my arms just won't lift me any further. Just as they gave out and I kind of ungracefully rolled off the ball, my boyfriend turned around to look at the tv and there I was sprawled out all over the floor. He said "when you claimed to be a beached whale in the past, I didn't think that you ever looked like one, but seeing you laying there all sweaty and flopped over, I think I finally see it." He was just kidding of course but I told him that I was going to have to post that he called me a beached whale. Then he said "well, more like a beached guppy, there is just not enough blubber left on ya." How sweet. I will take it as a compliment. So here is an NSV for the day. I went in to the copy room this morning to make a few copies. Then I left and quickly remembered that I forgot to check my mailbox and turned around to go back in. I heard another teacher say "Holy crap she has lost a lot of weight". I knew that they really meant it, because there is a wall between where I was and where they were, so they weren't just saying it to make me feel good. :clap2: That makes me happy because the stinking scale went up a pound today. But that is okay because the jeans that I just bought 2 weeks or so ago are getting loose!!!!!! I am starting to think that I will be really happy when I get my fill on the 21st. I am still staying at the same amount of calories, but I am having to eat a lot of salads to even get satisfied anymore. I found this great new caesar salad dressing spritz that has 2 calories per spray so that helps with my wanting to eat. I have wanted to eat, eat, eat in the last few days. My will power is being tested. So far I would give it an A, and since I am a certified, legitimate teacher, that should be an accurate grade. Good night all, chat with you tomorrow.
