    Advice Needed!

Beat way to see if a low carb diet works for you is to try it out for several weeks and see? If you see/experience what you like, then yay! If not try something else. Everyone will respond to different types of carbs differently. I went ultra low carb during weight loss phase, and lost the weight I wanted. BUT…I discovered later in maintenance that my carb intake made little to no difference in weight loss/gain/maintenance for ME. All that mattered was total calorie intake, whether these cals came from bread or steak or cookies. What carb intake DID make a difference for ME, was physical appearance. When i am low-carbing i look more lean and defined. When I’m not, I look more puffy and full. So while low-carbing makes my body (in my opinion) look nicer, my face gets gaunt-er…so its a win-lose lol. (AND i am basically still the same weight either way, eating basically the same amount of calories). But again, try it yourself and see (and also speak to your NUT of course ) Good Luck! ❤️

    Is this a real stall?

Lol!! I’m going to up it a little and see if that assists in my weight loss. It is scary though! I see you mentioned that upping your calories during your last stall was helpful. I believe that it may work for me too. I’ll report back!

    3 week stall

TBH you are doing so well. 40lbs is a lot of weight to loose and you are on the right track. You should not change anything that your team has set for you. My dietician explained bariatric weight loss like a staircase. For every down step there is a flat step. If you track your food, { I use My Fat Secret UK} you know that you are in a calorie deficit. You can not fail. I am lucky if I manage 850 a day but I have had a difficult time since surgery. So am a little behind my peers. I once had a 5 week stall that had me worrying but the good people here put me right. Onwards and downwards.

    Advice Needed!

1200 calories is pretty low. Have you considered increasing your caloric intake? It's not intuitively obvious, but sometimes eating more calories can increase your weight loss - your body may be in starvation mode and conserving due to low calories. Increasing the calories, even to 1400 or so, might kickstart your body into burning fat again.

    Fairlife Core Power 42 grams

I've only tried the regular Fairlife protein drinks (150 calories, 30 gm protein). And they're so much better than powdered protein drinks imo. But I'm not very familiar with the Core Power. From what I've read, it's the same concept as the regular Fairlife, except after the filtration process, there's even more protein added back into the milk, and it's geared towards athletic recovery. So I assume it tastes the same as the regular Fairlife.

    Is this a real stall?

I am having the same experience. I am 9 months post op and lost 108 pounds. I seems to be getting smaller yet the scale is very slowly moving or not at all. I think my exercise is moving things around or converting fat to muscle. I am around 1200 calories as well. I started riding my bike for 30 minutes after dinner to try a different exercise. I walk 4 times a day for 15-20 minutes then the bike ride. It seems to be speeding up the weight loss but nowhere near what it was a few months ago.

    Is this a real stall?

Yep, the closer you are to your goal the slower your rate of loss & yes, it can get so slow you think you’re not losing at all. You’re eating more, which you should be, and eating nearer the calories your body needs to function. Generally the first year is the honeymoon time when most weight if not all your weight is lost. Unfortunately, not everyone reaches their goal. It depends upon many factors including where your set point has reset to after your surgery. This is the weight your body is happiest at. If it is a long stall, sometimes a small tweak to your diet or activity can help. Do you still have appointments with your dietician? They may be able to make suggestions on what you could adjust & they’ll be best able to advise on an appropriate caloric goal for you. But consuming 950-1250 should still result in weight loss. I’m one of those unusual people who kept losing weight well into their 2nd year. I reached goal at 6 months & continued to lose, albeit extremely slowly, for another 11 months. I struggled to get to the 1300 or so calories I found I needed to stop me losing. BUT I’m not very active, am short & more finely built & in the downward slide end of 50. I eat a few more calories now. Many eat a lot more than I do to maintain at their weight. PS - Are you able to update your profile information on the left side? It can be very helpful if others can see that information about you.

    Is this a real stall?

I am the worst person to ask this question 😂 I am always petrified of upping my calories. Though after the last stall, upping my calories did help (currently consume around 800 to 950 calories). But I can't imagine going beyond 1200 during the weight loss phase. But that's just me and my past experiences speaking. Many here vouch on having lost weight by increasing their calories. So no harm in giving it a shot. Try increasing to 1300 for a week and see how it goes. If that doesn't work, next try reducing it by 100. If even those don't work, then body will do its thing and all you can do is continue working your diet and exercise hoping for the scale to move.

    Is this a real stall?

Thank you for your input. It’s so frustrating. I see so many things about weight loss and how some still lose way past a year and then some don’t. I’m going to up my calories a little. Right now on average my total calories per day fluctuate between 950-1250. What are your thoughts on that?

    June 2022 surgery buddies

My surgery is June 13th and this past Monday I started my 3 week pre op diet. From what I can tell it's easier than most but I am having a hard time with my food addiction. Dr has me on a high protein, low fat low carb less than 1000 calories a day to shrink my liver. I do my preop exam next Friday. My daughter's after school clubs are all having their last meetings which means she has brought home left over pizza, cookies, chips and soda. Now she is tired of junk but wants to save it for later. My addiction tells me one cookie wouldn't hurt and no one would know. The problem besides, being on pre op, is I never stop at 1 cookie ,,if I did I sure wouldn't be having surgery. We went grocery shopping today and I went into my room, turned on some music, and cried. Idk if I am having such a hard time now how I am gonna handle 2 weeks of liquids only after surgery. It has to get easier right?

    Is this a real stall?

Probably could be a stall. My last stall was when my BMI was about 33ish (last month, my month 5). Lasted 3 weeks or so until scale started moving yet again this month, month 6. Since you're month 10, I am sure weight loss slows down too closer to a year of surgery. Like the above poster suggested, try play around with calories and exercises and see if it makes a difference. It can get frustrating when you still haven't come close to the goal but hang in there and hope scale starts cranking again.
  12. Is this a real stall?

This is true for me too, in fact, mine is coming on in a few days. I’ll see what happens this time. Upping my water also. Do you think upping my overall calories would help? Thanks!

    Is this a real stall?

it could definitely be a stall - mine tended to be more frequent and lasted longer the closer i got to a normal BMI. Every time I'd think "well, i guess this is it...", and then the weight loss would start up again. if you're doesn't in another couple of weeks and you still want to lose more, about the only thing you can do is cut calories (or increase activity - or both).
  15. Just thought I'd do an update!! My Surgiversary was May 18th - I'm officially 1 year post-op and LOVING IT!! PROs: I can eat literally anything and I love it. Tiny portions were easy to get used to. I wouldn't change a thing. The portion control I used to struggle with is now effortless. It's nuts. Also, I ALWAYS have leftovers and it's pretty awesome. Weight fell off faster than I could keep up. My obsession with tracking calories is optional now. That's been nice. I can RUN up a flight of stairs - or two! It feels great being active. Now I understand why it was so hard to do things when my weight was higher. I can finally function. CONs: The HORRIBLE constipation/gas pains the weeks following my surgery cannot go unmentioned. The pain meds that constipate are a special kind of hell. It was worse than my c-section BY FAR. At week #4, I was getting back to normal. Now that I'm a year post-op, The reflux is still plaguing me. It's MUCH better than the 4 post-op months. I can definitely live like this if this is as good as it gets. I go between taking 20 and 40 mg omeprazole depending on what the food plans are that day. Pretty easy to manage now. Walking by a mirror is still odd. I've changed so much that I'm still surprised. When I buy clothes, I'm still confused by the sizes I'm fitting into. Never in a million years thought I'd lose so much in the 1 year post-op. Buying/fitting bras has been a nightmare, but that's for another post. Glad I did it! I would do it again! I can run and jump like a kid again! It's GREAT!
  16. I have been trying to find the answer to this and some help would be appreciated lol I am almost 6 weeks post op and I'm afraid to drink or try news things as I am afraid of getting this infamous "Dumping Syndrome" how long after having the gastric sleeve are you at risk of having this? When can I drink juice, coffee with creamer, etc without the fear of getting this ? (I don't care about the calories or lack of nutritional value in these foods, I am going to do what I am going to do lol )

    Best sugar free treats?

I already mentioned Hershey zero but I just found the Hershey zero with almonds. OMG so good. Of course they are empty calories so still an occasional treat but tastes like the real thing to me.

    First fast food since surgery

If you happen to go there for breakfast the egg white grill without the muffin is pretty good. W/o cheese it's 100 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 1 carb, and 18 grams of protein. With the cheese, It's 150 calories, 6grams of fat, 1 carb, and 21 grams of protein.

    May 2022 surgery?

My surgeons office says it’s normal for weight loss to be slow to start and sometimes even a little weight gain until week 6. If you are frustrated with it, can always switch something up. Eat more calories, workout a little longer, do a different workout entirely. I’ve been hiking with my dog the last few days for longer than our usual neighborhood walk and the scale is trending down. I’m out of the week 3 stall now it seems. The different elevation is probably helping me too—our usual walk is very flat, this new route is a little hilly.

    First fast food since surgery

I haven’t tried those nuggets yet but heard about them and that diet lemonade is very popular. They have good salads too when you get there. I just leave off some of the extra toppings and use my own/ less dressing and they fit my calorie budget. Their southwest is good but kinda spicy post op (but their avocado ranch dressing that comes with it is loaded in calories). Also, their market salad is good and the suggested dressing with that isn’t too bad calorie wise.

    First fast food since surgery

I just realized reading this thread that I have still not had fast food since my surgery. I just do not have a craving for it and everything I eat, I eat for a purpose. For example, if it gives me protein, it is needed. But...low or no fat. If it gives me vitamins like vegetables, I eat it. I rarely eat anything sweet and never candy. The closest I get to junk food is a 130 calorie Built Bar which is 20g of protein if I am out through lunch, it holds me off and gives me protein. That said, I miss chick fil a now that it came up in conversation
  22. Dont worry its nothing bad LOL. almost 6 weeks post op Chick Fil A 8 piece grilled nuggets 130 calories, 3g of fat, 1g of carbs and 25g of protein Chick Fil A Diet lemonade 50 calories, 0 fat, 14g carbs (A bit high but i only drank half) Gotta say it was delicious. Not as good as fried but still nice. I could not eat all pieces in one sitting so save the leftovers for later or tomorrow. So far i have had 0 issues with any foods i have eaten which is nice. been almost 2 weeks since my last weigh in. Waiting for June 4th which is my monthly date i take measurements of my body and weight to see monthly differences.
  23. Same here Leslie. I had mine on the 13th and still don’t feel like I can possibly eat enough to get the protein or calories suggested. But it does get a little easier everyday! Just getting burned out of what I can eat 😝 Missing some foods for sure!!!!

    Literally crying right now

Another thing I noticed and not just you lots of people are saying oh it took me an hour to eat my meal, my dietician and surgeon and lots of other literature say stop eaten after 20 minutes and throw what you haven't eat in that time away or put it in the fridge for your next meal. The longer you take to eat something the more calories you are getting in. Another thing is you are not meant to eat until the point you feel restriction, it took a long time for me to feel restriction because I was eating the recommended amounts now at almost a year out yes I can eat alot before restriction kicks in and with "slidder" foods I get no restriction so don't rely on restriction to limit your food intake because it won't work long term. The idea of the sleeve is to stop you feeling really hungry and to feel not hungry sooner. Slow your eating down, stop after 20 minutes, eat the recommended foods and portion sizes, separate drinking and eating, make sure you keep hydrated and you will succeed. "I didn't have to take my time. I ate normally because I actually forgot to go slow. And being that I'm only 19 days out, I didn't think I would be able to eat this much this soon with absolutely no issues at all." Just because you can does mean you should,

French Toast using zero net carb bread Every time I load this I’m always amazed by the calorie count. It also reminds me to skip things like this when eating out because the calories can easily be triple the amount.
