Hey Sara,
How are you doing? I was with you at the OCC May 22. You have talked with my brother a few times. I'm Linda (AnewLinda) Here and the OCC site. I have also wrote my name & contact info in Dr. O book you had at the OCC. Waiting for my pass port card at this time then plan on setting my fill appointment can't wait! If it gets here soon I may try to get in before the 18th, I'm sure they said we could get a fill anytime after 6 weeks...I'm so ready! If they won't let me in before the 18th then I would love to meet and go to the clinic.
Talk at you soon, Linda

I'm just looking for someone who is online now that can answer these "duh" questions about the protein drinks: Do we consider them a food or a liquid? When I eat something for breakfast i.e. boiled egg, do I have to wait an hour BEFORE I drink a protein shake (like it was a liquid) or treat it as a food and wait an hour AFTER I drink it? And since they are liquid consistency how do I get the benefit of the protein--don't they just go right through like slider foods?
I know I should probably know this but I am a bit lacking in education of the basics. I left a message for my dr office to call me, but I need to know before next week
Thanks for your response,
Scout

G'day, ur doing so well !!!! I have lost about 33lbs. A lot slower then i would like, but at least it is comming off. I have worked out it is only 1lb a week, I have 5.8cc in and think or rather am hoping by 6.5cc i will have reached my sweet spot. I can feel restriction if i eat fast and have had about 3 moments where i wondered if the food might go down but it only took a minute and i was fine. (that was with bread twice and steak once) Thankfully i am not at the point where i think i would vomit or anything. Going by only 1lb a week i should loose at least another 26lbs by the end of the year, that would mean i will be well over half way. It would be nice if i can make that goal or better yet a little more. My dream goal by the end of the year would be another 35lbs and then i will be under 200lbs and that will sound so much better
By the way i am quite tall 174cm, lol.... cause i just thought 200lbs sounds bad too. lmao

Hi, sorry it took so long for me to answer you. Good luck on your journey! I wish I could tell you I did something special but I just followed the doctors rules. Honestly I think the band adjusted my head too! The way I look at food has changed. Suddenly I Want to eat healthy. Before the band I didnt care. I do work out 5 days a week. It took me 6 months before I could say I enjoy it. Now I take several classes and love it! Let me know how you are doing. Best of luck - Diane

Wow, I bet the Russian was a nightmare! The hubby went down last week on Wednesday & Thursday - he said it was combat fishin' at it's finest. I wanted to go, but knew if it was that crowded that those people would have killed me as I would have been the one to snag all their lines as we fish elbow to elbow!
My preference is Deep Creek or Whittier (we have an offshore fishing boat). We dipnet on the Copper River (using a friend's river boat) and use our smaller boat for the Kenai Dipnetting - so needless to say, I'll have PLENTY of PROTEIN to eat when I get the lap band.
We are retired Air Force (hubby retired in 2002) and decided to come back to Alaska to retire (we were previously stationed here from 1994-1998). The only negative thing about AK is being so far away from family.
Love to hear how your journey goes .....
C'Ya,
Tammy

My surgeon just requires you to go on a 1200 calorie a day diet for two weeks. Its not bad since thats around what I usually eat a day anyway. Two days prior I go on an all liquid diet. But I have found a protein shake I really like so I don't imagine it'll be too bad. Wow the 24th! It sneaks up on you doesn't it?

I lost almost 2 lbs last week. my n ew scale as ounces on them. So I didnt go down exactly 2 lbs. (just shy) but I'm going to pretend like I lost two pounds. haha

We went to Pontiac Lake out in Waterford both days. It was nice. I usually don't hit the beach very much seen as how my brother has a pool but the pool turned green and we had to dump a bunch of chemicals in it and i'm like no way i'm not swimming in that. lol.
I usually just lose 2 lbs a week but it's been steady up until about a month or so ago and then it was 2 lbs every other week or 3 weeks straight and 1 off. it's been weird. Oh well every lb is 1 lb closer to goal. 115 lbs to go! Seems so far away but I know one day i'll get there!
Well it better get nicer out! I'm going to the Kid Rock concert Friday night at Comerica Park. I can't wait!!

Hi everyone. I was banded 22 months ago. I've never had any problems, well except once when the surgeon got pretty agressive with a fill and I had to have some taken out (which was my fault as I asked him to do it). I've lost 105 lbs and going for another 20. One thing that I know, it is important to have your coordinator's support. I meet with mine one to one every week. I have not been on this site before but I can tell that it is a useful tool in itself.

My surgery went great. Everybody is different but once my surgery was over, I wanted to walk around. I think I was in my room not even 5 minutes, and I asked the nurses if I could walk. I had dry mouth and felt like there was phlem in my throat but that was because of the breathing tube that they put in my mouth during surgery. They did give me some lemon swabs to take the dryness away. I didn't even have to ask for the pain meds, the nurses just came in and gave them to me whenever it was time. The heprin shots they give to prevent blood clots bruised me up. I stayed in the hospital overnight. Dr. Lutfi is very nice. I lost 37 pounds so far. 20 pounds I lost on the 2 week preop diet drinking slim fast low carb. The other 17 pounds I lost after the band was placed, but it seems it has slowed a bit because I am back on solid foods now. I have my first fill on July 14th. It is worth it though. So have you went to any classes yet?

Hi! Glad to hear its going ok! Im doing pretty good...i've found as long as i have "stuff" i can handle it. meaning, i have lots of sugar free jello - and lite cool whip (they said no milk products but this is non dairy, so..... ) and s/f popsicles, tropical flavor are pretty good. I'm still going out and buying some things when i cant think of what to eat. Such as a bacon/egg burrito, no cheese. I get to work, toss out the tortilla and eat the inside. The weekend was a challenge, only one more to get through (urgh - a long day holiday one at that! lol). I just bought some comfy pants for the week at home (short length but comfy) and well, i just hope the next week goes by quickly!

I'm new at all of this so I hope you get my response! Well... I was in a lot of pain afterwards. On my left side. The doctor told me it was because they cut through the muscle right there. Ugh! The first time getting up and walking was a nightmare. But the surgery itself wasn't bad. In fact it was over in 35 minutes (well my surgeon's part). When she went in to see my mother, my mom thought something went wrong because like I said...it was only like 40 minutes in.
I was pretty sleepy for a couple of days and it was hard to sit up or walk. I'm back at work now. My body looks like Frankenstein. But I'm recovering. 11 pounds down since last week. Not bad. But I feel like I'm starving. I do cry a lot. I'm a baby. I'm not sure if I can live with this forever but I owe it to myself (and to the insurance company) to live with this for a while!

Hi Dionne!
27.5 lbs.!!! That is awesome!
I got my third fill about a week ago and I am definitely restricted now too! I lost 4 lbs. in the first week following the fill! I think this will get things rolling again for me, as my weight loss had all but stopped too! I have lost 28 lbs. to date! We seem to be neck in neck with our progress!! It's been interesting adjusting to the new restriciton, but I am doing pretty good. I have a much harder time eating breads, muffins and buns now. I mostly avoid them. I have to stick wtih protein shakes for breakfast, because it is just too tight in the mornings for foods. But by lunch time, I can eat regular food. Thank goodness, because I am not real big on those shakes! I just found out a few days ago that I am going to my a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding in April! So, now I have even more incentive to lose this weight! Take care and let me know how you are doing with your new fill as well!

Thanks so much for the website direction AND the vote of confidence! I'm putting myself on a pseudo-preop diet in preparation for the big day, since my surgeon doesn't require it. Surgery is two weeks from tomorrow (*nervous twinge*).

It's almost here!!!!!! I know you're excited, nervous and READY. Dr. Hart completely fills the band to test it before he puts it in and drains it. Mine had .6 cc left after the testing. That's almost nothing. But you will have some swelling so i'm not convinced it's such a great idea to do a fill at surgery. I've read too many posts from people who had to have that fill removed not long after surgery because they couldn't drink their liquid diet. My first fill was exactly 4 weeks post op and they put in 4 cc (had had to take 1 cc of that out because it was way too tight). They really aren't stingy with the fills like some docs.
I'm so excited for you! Keep in touch. I'm always glad to answer questions if I can. parr0thd51@aol.com
