    I'm going to scream....

Yeah don't listen to people who tell you to stop losing weight. I can see if you were in mid onederland or something but 300 lbs. Yeah it's bizarre that they'd say that. Plain and simple they are full of it and just want to keep you from succeeding either that or they're being phony. I'm relatively new to the weight loss surgery game but I think life has a messed up way of trying to bring you down when you're winning and people can be down right evil. Just ignore them or make them feel stupid if it annoys you that much but you keep going toward your goal and don't let anyone's bs hold you back. Do not listen to them I don't think they have good intentions. I think they're just trying to throw wrenches in your plan.

    Just Curious...?

I was a 24-26 at 285. I have always been hippy. Now at 203 I'm still at an 18 but wear a 12 top. It's BS, but atleast now I can shop in 1 part instead of going back and forth to plus and misses section.

    Hunger

For me head hunger means I just want a "taste" in my mouth. Gum or a mint usually does the trick for me on that. Pre-sleeve hunger- stomach growling w the I MUST eat! Post sleeve "hunger"- I don't have any. I'll get weak if I go too long btwn meals. I love this though bc I'm not "driven" to food. Also post sleeve I (for a better lack of words)---> crave... meat, Veggies & fruit no joke. My taste buds changed drastically. I cannt stand fried foods nor sweets.
  4. It really just depends from person to person. I will say that I had the dreaded "week three stall" that LASTED 2.5 weeks and I got fed up - for two days I blew my calories and carbs off the charts and it did seem to kick me out of whatever the hell that was and I lost a pound. Could be a coincidence I'm inclined to think it had something to do with hormonal issues based on how I was feeling, but I can't prove that. I also think there is a section of the sleeve population that calls themselves slow losers but really, they underestimate how many calories they are actually eating on a daily basis. You know the type, you look at their diary on MFP and they might list that they had 4oz baked chicken breast but they don't list ANY condiments or anything that they had with it and you just think to yourself "really, you ate that with NOTHING on it or with it?" Not saying that it couldn't happen, and I would never really call someone out on that because I feel like it's unfair because I don't know them or know what they really do or not, but it does make you wonder, ya know what I mean?
  5. I have been reading a lot of these post about paying out of pocket or co pays. Why is anyone paying out of pocket of the insurance covers the cost. I would go nuts if I had to pay anything additional to what my co pays have been with all these requirements. Does anyone have BC/BS PPO and live in Maryland ? I would love to know if you had to pay anything extra. I'm all types of confused. Please help me understand. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Day 8

It's funny how each dr is different. I was sleeved on the 3rd and have been on liquids. I am allowed to start soft solids on Sat (which cannot come fast enough bc hunger pangs are killing me).
  7. You could tell them they can text or call you if they need to. That usually makes people feel better but they don't actually do it bc they know you're recovering Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  9. This is my first post, and what a great thread to reply to!! I am just starting out and doing my research. This forum has been amazing. Goals: -Shop with my younger sister IN THE SAME STORE! -Have my true spirit and personality shine thru. Everyone calls me shy and quiet, but its because I'm too embarrased to have the spotlight on me. -Provide my daughter the best possible life I can. Not one filled with "maybe later" or "not now" bc I get winded easily. -Hit on the hottest guy in the room!!
  10. @@karla23 Do you mind me asking if you had any co-morbitities and did you have to document them? I am submitting to Fed BCBS the first week of April and my BMI is 38. I realize I am in the "gray" zone and want to do whatever needed to get my approval. Thanks!
  11. @@brians34 I actually had already begun a supervised weight loss program before I went in for my consultation with the surgeon. As far as my failed attempts, I just wrote a letter discussing my weight struggles and all failed attempts of weight loss, including fad diets and professionally supervised diets. I then just had my doctors office give me a copy of my paperwork from each visit I had over the past 2 years (to show my weight). One thing that I did not do and it yelled my approval up several days, was get documentation from my primary doctor, saying that I had not been treated for alcohol or substance abuse in the last year. Except for that minor delay, BCBS Federal was very quick with my approval. The surgeons office sent my info over on Thursday May 22, and I had a response Tuesday May 27. The 26th was a holiday, so it only took 2 Business days. I didn't get to fax in the missing documents until June 3 bc my primary doctors office took forever to get it to me..but I was officially approved on June 4!! Thanks SweeTEA

Any May 20th surgeries out there?

My surgery was at noon yesterday. Woke up in quite a bit of pain. Two of my incisions that are close to eachother were really burning. Felt a little like he cut me in half lol. Once I was out of recovery I was pretty drugged up and don't remember much. I sat up though last night and could use the bathroom on my own. I've barely used the morphine pump. The nursing staff keeps calling me their ray of sunshine bc apparently a lot of people don't do this well. I had the test done to test for a leak and...NO LEAK (thank god). Hopefully starting fluids soon bc my stomach is kind of gurgling, but no hunger. Overall the worst part is the soreness but it's not unbearable. Hope everyone is doing well! Best of luck on all your recoveries!
  14. Alright, who was confused (emoji reaction) by my joke ??? Tough crowd... 😂 I've lied to a lot of people (and told the truth to a lot of people too) the people ive lied to don't for a minute believe the BS I've told them. To my face they tell me i look wonderful but best believe they are talking about me behind my back wondering which terminal disease i have. The people ive told the truth were thoroughly satisfied because the mystery was solved with no work on their ends. The truth is just easier to maintain. Sherlock Syndrome. People suddenly become MI-5 when they can't figure something out. I have inboxes filled with "hey cuz, i hope all is well..." I thought i was maintaining my privacy. People are nosier now more than ever because the weight is staying off and sadly thats not common. Good Luck fellow fibbers ☺

    "You weren't that big?!?!"

I hate Dr's like that. One at my Dr's practice was similar when I was still in the weight loss phase. At one point she told me that I had lost what i was expected to with the lapband so I was successful. Yes maybe I had but I was still either overweight or right at the top end of normal at that point and I certainly didn't go through surgery to settle for that. I hate the way they have so much power over fills and yes I know they don't want people to be too tight but I only had just over 3.5ml at the time and I have a 10ml band. What is the point of having the band if they aren't going to let you use it properley. She was also skinny and I mean skinny in the true sense not what a lot of banders consider skinny which is often normal weight. After that I always asked for the other Dr when I went for my fills and she was so much more understanding. I eventually got fed up of travelling so far for followups and managed to swap Dr's last year to one a lot closer to home.( Not sure how I managed it as generally he doesn't take other Dr's patients). He is great. I actually get to see him and not an assistant and he always seems to have time to talk and discuss how things are going.

    March 2007 Bandsters

My doctor makes you go through all the hoops before you can see him. (Clearances, documented weight loss efforts, and 10% weight loss) What they explained to me was that all that they have you do is MORE than most insurance companies require so it is pretty rare for one of their patients to not be approved. I do know for me it was easier than for a friend who has BC/BS - she had to sign extra papers and submit more than I had to because they knew that was what their insurance required. (and this was BEFORE she got to see the surgeon)

    my update (long read)

I'm sorry I wasted my time with my previous post. You apparently just want everyone here to feed you a line of BS and not give their honest opinion.

    Gastric bypass in Kentucky!

I decided to go with RNY over sleeve bc of my acid reflux and diabetes. I'm sooo excited bc my surgery is scheduled for 9/17 ????
  19. That is exactly how I felt. The Premier Protein shakes (all flavors) made me feel horrible and therefore I was unable to ingest them easily. I found that clear protein drinks were what worked for me. Especially Isopure powder (berry and tropical flavors). They have it on Amazon, I suggest getting a shaker bottle too if you don’t already have one. I also use an unflavored protein powder to mix in with my food and morning decaf coffee. I can get ‘Orgain Grass Fed Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides Protein Powder’ at my local grocery (HEB) and Amazon. Good luck and I hope you get back to your protein goals!

Lap Band Erosion...till death do you part...

Hi I read your post with interest. I had my band put in Aug 2008. In April 2014 I had further surgery to readjust it as it had slipped. I am no longer losing any weight. Almost back to where I started. But I can't swallow properly. Everything you described is how it is for me. 2 hours to eat a meal. Rushing to the toilet to purge all the time. Sometimes even fluids hurt like hell. Im thoroughly miserable & fed up with it now. I've had 2 episodes of the severe pains under the ribs that you described. I was crying in agony. It's got to point where I'm avoiding solid foods completely. I'm living on Soup. Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you & wish you a speedy recovery. I have an appointment tomorrow with my Bariatric nurse. For the second time in a month. Last time she removed 2ml but it made very little difference.

I Would not chance the sleeve if u have acid reflux or gerd. Many, many oeopke have to get a revision after the sleeve due to horrible reflux. Dreaded Denial Letter Arrived

I would call back and insist that you be granted an appointment with the surgeon or the insurance coordinator. If they are that confident of the appeal, they may be able to instill that confidence in you. For other BC/BS patients out here - can you provide information on what state you are from & how you were approved? That may be good information for the surgeon to include in his appeal. While BC/BS are independent of each other - have similiar "franchise" coverage information in addition to medical support for the sleeve could be very beneficial in this appeal.

    Dreaded Denial Letter Arrived

I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield Blue Access PPO in Ohio. In some states BC/BS is approving the sleeve, but not in Ohio yet. I have had some other health issues that my surgeon believes would help the ins co consider the sleeve as my only option. So, the fight begins!! :001_tongue: Of course there is the appeal, but the peer review is where my surgeon says he goes nose to nose with a doctor who would basically let my surgeon plead my case in person. It's rumored that my surgeon is real good at this. Anyway, I expected the denial, but when you read it in black and white it's so REAL! I've already begun composing a letter to BC/BS. It's basically a letter to introduce myself to them and explain what's gotten me to this point in my life and how I and my surgeon feel the sleeve is the only option for me.
