  1. 70-80 grams a day is what I was told I have a protein drink for breakfast you can mix it with skim milk or soy or make it into a smoothie using Greek yogurt protein mix and fresh fruit according to what stage your at or PB2 and some sugar free flavoring that's all good for about 25-35 gms mu nut says that's a good start for a long time even for life if you weren't a breakfast eater you just need to look for higher protein fish tuna low fat cheeses beans etc who would have thought a string cheese would be lunch
  2. I can use protein drinks for the rest of my life if I want and will probably do that as I use them for a meal. I am suppose to be between 65-75 grams a day.

    Question About Planning Surgery

I asked the same thing! The pain really isn't anything near a c-section. I think you would be fine at graduation, I went to a wedding day 6 after my sleeve. I took along my protein shake. You should be able to drive right off as long as you aren't taking prescription pain meds - I took tylenol at home. I think if you plan for graduation, you should be fine. Don't over do it the few days before. If you go to track meets, you can sit and watch and sit your water - I would probably sit at the top of the bleechers so you have the rails to lean on, I think it would have bothered me sitting with no support. Hope that helps!
  4. I learned the hard way when i transitioned to cottage cheese, fish, etc. i was doing great with everything until i accidentally ate cottage cheese that was not low fat. it was horrible pain! soooo one thing i would recommend is keeping things low fat. fish was super easy to get down and I still love Trader Joe soups. they are so smooth in the tummy and yummy. another thing i do is add in a scoop of unflavored protein powder... or even half a scoop. you can get it at GNC. when i have a hard time getting protein down I go for Isopure clear drinks. amazing way to get down a ton of protein. the other thing that was on my list from the nutritionist for gas is simply GAS-X.

    Sugar Free flavored syrups

I had the same issue -- I wanted to add some coffee flavor to my Protein Drinks. So, I bought a little jar of Folger's instant decaf. I add about a 1/4 teaspoon of the granules. No calories, fat or sugar! Tastes great! I am a Starbucks fanatic (caramel creme frappicino). I have duplicated it somewhat (of course not as rich and creamy, but the flavor is there). I use the French Vanilla Protein Powder, add milk, ice, coffee granules and sugar free caramel syrup. Blend it all and YUMMY!!

One Week To Go Til Surgery

congrats on getting a date. I am getting sleeved on 4/10. So excited and nervous. The liquid diet is hard, first week I crashed and burned then realized I HAD to make it work. I feared I'd be that one person that gets on the table and the doctor says nope, can't do it because my liver is too big. I think the first 3 days are the hardest then your body kind of adjusts. I've found that even when i do palm sized meal in the evening I'm full. I do one Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch and in between Water. If I get the case of the munchies I eat sugar free Jello. I find sipping shakes (EAS AdvandEdge) and water with a straw helps me savor it more and I take longer to finish it. Can't wait to see our progress. See you on the losers bench
  7. Hey everyone. Signed up about 4 months ago and never pursued it any farther so here goes. Been having some issues lately. I had my surgery in Oct of 08. I started at 326 and to date I have been hovering at 255. I have been stuck here for about 3 months, well since my last fill. I'm at about 6cc's and have the large band. I wont lie been depressed and thats why I think I'm here. Lets just say I have drank my calories more then eating. Mornings cant eat so try to remember my protein shakes. Along with a glass of milk. I'm always out and find myself eating fast food:( So any ideas there would be great. Also quick dinner or lunch ideas would be much appreciated. I am 24 and have struggled my whole life with my weight. Been consistent my whole life but was always on a slow increase then my fiance left about 3 years ago and thats when things got bad so once I confronted those issues I decided to do this. It has been great and I feel great but still have a ways to go. Hard to imagine tho cause I have never seen what I would look like skinny. lol. Well I will leave it at that for now and thank you for reading what I wrote and look forward to hearing from everyone!
  8. Had my first 'oops' today and I'm paying for it!! I am about 3 weeks post op, still on mushies, and ate lunch at 11:00. After work my husband picked me up and we went car shopping. I missed my afternoon snack and we didn't get done at the car dealers until after 7, home until 8:30. I was SO hungry. Overly hungry. My head is POUNDING. I came home and tried to eat slowly some quick protein but it was too late, I was shakey and still can't shake the headache. Any ideas for portable snacks when still on mushies?

    Paying For It

Motts makes these applesauce pouch things that you can eat w/o a spoon. Also baby food pouch things. Pre-mixed Protein Shakes. banana (take tiny bites and smoosh it in your mouth). Stop at KFC and get mashed potatoes. A Campbell's "Soup at Hand". I've been on mushies 2 days ... can you tell I've given this some thought?

    Buffalo Chicken Wings

Splurged a little today on some buffalo chicken wings at lunch. When I plugged them into my nutrition tracker, while I was thrilled by the Protein I almost fell out of my chair on the fat grams. That will be a very rare splurge for me! Of course, I got stuffed full on about 4-5 of them (with nothing else on the side) - now I think about how I used to be able to eat 10-12, along with fries or onion rings . . . . and a couple big beers. YIKES, I can't imagine the calorie & fat intake of THAT meal!!
  11. Someone please give me some good advice about how to stop feeling sick! I'm 1 month post op yesterday and I'm on Nexium and am eating very well. I am eating about 600 calories a day, getting about 50g of Protein a day and don't have anything high in fat or sugar. Everything I eat I chew well too but I can't keep anything down:( *********pLeAsE, SoMeOnE, HeLp Me!**********
  12. I have no regrets having my sleeve surgery, I would do it all over again, wish I would have had it sooner. I too like the non fat sugar free latte's from Mc Donalds but Star Bucks are even better with the Protein. I get ice from Sonic, it's little and just like the hospital ice. I made Mio ice pops to help with getting enough liquid after having to get iv liquids a week out. Since then no problems with enough liquid. I use a lot of shredder cheese, cheese sticks (string cheese and sharp cheese) and Peanut Butter or almond butter for high protein counts. Egg flower Soup and Ramen noodle season packets are also great in the beginning they both have sodium in them to help keep the fluids up. I am now able to go out for lunch and dinner with friends and these are a few of the things I enjoy Wendy's chili small, Jack in the Box grilled chicken strips, Taco bell bean cups, Mc. Donalds jr cheese burger no bun and KFC mashed potatoes and gravy (I think of these as treats) I LOVE MY SLEEVE and would do it again in a heart beat.

    6 months after surger

Heba, Welcome! This is a great place for support. Some of us here are just slower than others but the weight will come off. Just keep it up. It is hard but just think how much healthier you are now for your little girl! I bet she is beautiful! Good luck and feel free to ask any questions you may have. Are you doing a high Protein diet?
  14. Are you eating 3 oz of protein every meal? Are you also able to eat at least 1/2 cup veggies? If you can't do these things you are probably too tight. If you can eat a balanced diet on the 800 cals you are probably fine.

    Protein

I second the Premier Protein shakes in chocolate. I like them right out of the little carton, but most mornings I pour in into a blender bottle, add instant coffee (mostly decaf with a little regular) add ice and shake. Yum.

    Protein

I think the premier protein shakes (chocolate). I get them at Sams. I'm 5 days post op so just started to reintroduce it back into my diet. So far so good :-)

    Protein

I just bought the premier chocolate protein shakes at SAMs. I'm excited to get my protein in! I've been really struggling with it at 7 months post op.

    Egg Heaven During Mushies

I thought I would be eating eggs everyday....HA! I can barely get down one whole egg (scrambled) with cheese. This sucks, as I do NOT eat cottage cheese, yogurt, sour cream or anything else of that texture. So breakfast is usually a protein shake,or watermelon.

    Question: Liquid Diet Before Surgery

Today is day nine on liquids for me. I have to say that the first 3 days were really bad, but now I am not even hungry. I have to make myself drink the protein shakes and have at least 1 cup of yogurt each day. ( I am allowed 3 servings) I drink propel and it is just the best stuff around, I just discovered the melon and it is soooo yummy. As for the chewing, I chew sugar free gum, my doc said that was fine, as were sugar free mints. I found that the protein gave me a bad aftertaste so the mints have been helpful. I also think that I will not have the post-op hungar to deal with now and that is really going to be a blessing, I am being banded on the 28th. Only 2 more days whooohooo!!!~Mandy

11-20-08 Blog - Day 6 after my surgery

Woke up early early today, 4am, and could not get back to sleep so I got up as a was hoping to get some housework done. Boy did I! Went on a cleaning spree and cleaned for hours and hours. Am exhausted now but feel good. Had a 1/4 cup of cream of wheat for breakfast, a protein shake a few hours later and a cup of tomato soup for lunch. Not hungry at all and stomach feels pretty good. Belly is still a bit sore but each day it seems to feel better and better. I believe I can start riding my stationary bike by next Monday. When I got on the scale today I was so elated. I am down to 298. Yippee!!! 25 lbs lost in less than 3 weeks. 12 since the surgery. I have been reading alot of other banders blogs and comments and am amazed that some still don't get it. The band is not a cure, just an aide to get you back on the right track. Without exercising, making the right healthy food choices and controlling the amount you eat...you will not be successful. it HAS to be a LIFE CHANGE. I also do not know how people that do not have the Lord to help them do it. I lean upon Him daily. Anyways, drop me a line if you want to chat.:willy_nilly:

    Insurance coverage in Florida

Maitai, in Texas, individual health plans (these are different than group plans) do not offer such riders. Group insurance plans may or may not opt for such coverage. Group insurance is given as a "benefit." It is another way to pay employees to work for them. So, if a company has the weight loss option in their plan, they are trying to give a very good benefit to their employees. Many plans don't have the option because they don't want to spend more on their employees, short sighted as that may be. In the individual plans in Texas, weight loss surgery is excluded, and some other things are as well. There is no rider I have ever heard of to add weight loss to an individual plan. The individual health market exists to make money for the company's stockholders and limit risk to those they deem insurable. If you and your "health conditions" fit their idea of reasonable risk, they cover you. They may rate you up in cost or eliminate coverage with a waiver. Everyone else not fitting the model gets declined.

    Cajun Girl's First Post

I am pretty anxious! I literally just finished my first pre-surgery diet meals (all protein shakes). My good friend is having hers done in 2 1/2 hrs! We are 2 weeks apart. :purplebananna: She lost 10 lbs in the first week of the diet. I'm not sure about the second week. My personal goal is 100 lbs. If I loose more I'll be happy too.:Banane01:

    Cajun Girl's First Post

I am on a no carb, hi protein diet for two weeks. Also trying to give up diet coke. I really like diet coke! O well, I think I am going to love being thin even more. I just hope I don't mess this up; I have already told everyone in sight what I am doing. This is such a big step, it is nice to talk to others who get it! We all know what it feels like to struggle with our weight and fail at every diet on Earth. We are getting a new start on the 2nd of June! Yeah! Best wishes!

    Hair question

Yes, you should prepare for it. It typically happens around 3-6 months out and can last for 3-12 months. There is NOTHING that will stop it. Unfortunately, it's a combination of anesthesia, crazy dietary changes, and trauma to the body. You can take Biotin or other hair/nail supplements to help with the regrowth, but there is no magic cure that will keep you from losing some hair. No amount of Protein will keep your hair from falling out if it's going to happen. Here are 2 articles that explain it in more detail. http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1071566-overview http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_diseases/telogen_effluvium.html I lost half of my hair in volume. It started around 3.5 months post VSG, and lasted for a solid 3 months. I had new growth coming in before the shedding stopped. I never took Biotin on a regular basis, and used Folicure extra care shampoo which just strips your scalp so the new growth can come in. I had my gallbladder removed at 8 months post op, and started losing hair again about 2 months after that surgery as well, but it was not as traumatic.
  25. Best thing is...tomorrow's a new day...move on! BTW is sounds like you chose a bunch of protein which isn't altogether bad.
