Omega loop gastric bypass Australia
123Go replied to thesupportedhalf's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all... So glad to hear your stories! I'm booked in for an Omega loop in October. I posted this in another thread too, but my story is; I had a band in 2007, lots of reflux and developed terrible eating habits. Went from 118.5kgs to 83... Lots of deflations and inflations to try and manage the terrible reflux. Then got pregnant and deflated the band again....Back up to 102 by the baby's birth. Then had the band removed in dec 2012, after I found out it had slipped. Waited 6 month and revised to a sleeve in may 2013... and went from 107 to 93 within the first 2 months and since then.... well, nothing. Up and down on the same 2 kilos my surgeon said my stomach was so damaged by the band that he just couldn't make my sleeve small enough. I can eat normal sized meals... The only positive is that I don't have any reflux! I'm a bit worried about failing.... Considering I am a band to sleeve and now soon to be omega loop Please keep us posted with your progress! No one I talk to knows anything about the OL, so it's great to find these threads! ) -
Has Anyone Been Sleeved Twice?
lollyfidy1965 replied to tbooker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never heard of anyone having the "sleeve" procedure done twice. I've only heard of people revising from the "sleeve" to a full gastric bypass, or duodenal switch. -
Has Anyone Been Sleeved Twice?
lml32937 replied to tbooker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I have never personally heard of being re-sleeved I have heard of others like previously mentioned being revisioned to another procedure- ie bypass or RNY. However having said that my advice to you is to not get discouraged- Take what the doctor gave you- still follow the protocols- who knows maybe you will be successfull- it sounds like you may have accepted because it isnt "Normally how he does it" that it wont be successfull- PROOVE HIM WRONG!!! Moniter your intake, exercise- stick with his program who knows you may never need another procedure AND if you did the weight loss you have had will enable him an easier 2nd time around-. I had 5 laparoscopic surgeries before my sleeve and at the time of my sleeve also had my lap band removed- Due to auto immune problems I have a collagen disorder and build scar tissue like crazy- My surgeon didnt have any problems with previous areas nor accessing anything he needed. If by chance you are not OK with your doctor then perhaps you might seek another opinion to see if they can offer anything else in the mean time.. but I'd really give it some time- let your body adjust before you go doing more to it. GOod luck! -
Pain from Band to RNY revision
Christina4 replied to LoraLei2's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was banded in 2010 and had a revision to the RNY in October 2014. IT WAS THE BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE!!!!! I was in the hospital for three days when I had both surgeries. With the band I could barely get out of bed because I hurt so bad. With the revision to RNY, 4 hours after my surgery I was walking laps around the hospital. Of course you are a little tender, but it was so much easier than the previous surgery. I also had a c-section in 2005 when I had my daughter, the RNY was easier than that. Make sure you go into the surgery with the mentality that you are going to come out of the surgery as a winner, that you've got this. As long as you set your mind to it, you will do great. My surgeon has done many surgeries and he said that I made it look easy. Honestly, my goal was to be released from the hospital before my 3 day mark was up. Their policy trumped my wanting. LOL! Also, with the band I didn't lose any weight. All my weight-loss was before the lapland surgery and after the RNY surgery. A total of 89 pounds, with 50 of those being post op for the RNY. I've kinda of hit a plateau, but that is because my family and I took two months to move from Georgia to Alaska. On the road eating isn't easy or healthy. I hope it works out for you!!!! -

How is United Healthcare (UHC) for getting revision approved?
DTERMINED replied to Poorehouse's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have UHC (coca cola) and even though my plan states I am covered for the band or bypass they found my revision medically necessary and approved it. It was approved in less than one week and I had my revision on aug 21st. -
Will we have to low carb for ever?
ladivaluz806 replied to ladivaluz806's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I did not know that! My dr, basically tells us that we can eat what we want , just eat all a serving of Protein first, which as most know, doesnt leave much room for else! I do eat my Proteins before anything else that i usually dont have any room left. But the few local gals i know that have had the procedure done said they have not done a special diet. I was hard core atkins before i had my surgery and it worked pretty well, I had a lap band in at the time, for 10 years actually and I lost more when i would atkins than with the band itself. The band wouldnt let me eat meat so eventually, I decided to have the revision done and get the sleeve. I really did not realize that i would be on low carb the rest of my life. Its a little sad but too late now ESPECIALLY if i want to see some results. Makes me feel like i should have done more research and just gotten my LB taken out instead of the full on sleeve procedure. -
Can't help you with the sugar you'll need to stop that and follow your diet plan, but maybe you need to try a bit more fill, smaller increment than last time. The band worked for me for 4 years and then caused me a lot of issues so I ended up revising to RNY.

Getting a Revision - but OMG NOT because of weight regain!!!!
Cheeseburgh replied to summerset's topic in Rants & Raves
Getting a revision based on medical necessity (severe GERD) is a very important distinction and is helpful for everyone to be aware of. Secondly, everyone knows that revision surgeries are generally less effective when weight regain is involved, therefore the outcomes will be different. There is no expectation of weight loss. You might want to contemplate why this angers you. -

He has done revisions, I dont know how many, but the nurses said all 3 drs have done revisions and have improved their skills greatly...this is the first problem I have had in 5 yrs...Im hoping since he knows my anatomy so well and has done my band and first sleeve this will go smoothly...I guess I will put it in Gods hands and let him take over, He is the only one I have true faith in right now... -

I feel the same way and mine is not a revision. Who is your surgeon? That mortality rate seems high. What is his personal mortality rate? Do you have to go to that surgeon? -
The Fat Girl Wakes Up
Tiffykins replied to BZButterfly79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The system showed that you quoted my reply on this thread, but I'm not sure if that was your intent. But, I wanted to clear up any possible misconceptions. Both of my surgeries were covered by insurance. I was referred to the band surgeon, and all was fine until I started complaining about pain and issues with my band. I did seek out my revision surgeon, and since Tricare doesn't cover VSG outside of MTFs, he was my best option with his experience level, and stats I felt confident in surgeon choice. I could have self-paid, but honestly, it wasn't realistic for me to do so with a husband in Afghanistan. -

summerset replied to summerset's topic in Rants & Raves
I don't understand what you're trying to tell me here. Do you want to express that someone having revision because of GERD deserves support more than someone having revision because of regain? Because then we would actually really disagree. -
Hey Laura, Good for you getting that band out! Yep.. most those symptoms will be the same. When I eat a couple teaspoons too much I feel horrid. I measure stuff out, usually 1/2 a suggested portion and work my way up from there. The best thing for me to learn is that if I'm satisfied with a small amount, but still crave more, I can have more later. This past week I was craving spaghetti. I made my favorite sauce and put it over spaghetti squash. I ate a measured portion each night....but I ate it four nights in a row. (until the craving was satisfied). As for Water, right now I can take 3 swallows at a time, if I try for 4 I feel like I can't get it down. Warm liquids go down easier for me these days, maybe because it's bitterly cold up here and I shiver everytime I think of choking down another cold Protein shake!. You're gonna do great....getting back to basics is a good thing..I had to do it after my revision so I understand what you're going through. Best wishes,

Here's my list for choosing VSG over RNY for my revision: I could have had RNY very easily, but I fought for VSG. 1) Malabsorption of fat/calories only last 18-24 months (after that the villi in the intestine regrow), but the malabsorption of nutrients/vitamins are for the rest of your life. Not a fair trade off if you ask me. 2) Blind stomach left behind that is difficult to scope, but can still get ulcers and cancer. 3) The whole pouch/stoma thing is not natural. I had a pouch/stoma thing with the band, and it sucked. I loved the fact that I would have a normal stomach with my pyloric valve intact. 4) Regain stats with RNY are downright scary 5) Long term complications related to pouch dilation, vitamin/nutrient deficiencies and the number of patients seeking RNY revision to either DS or ERNY were just too high for me 6) Dumping syndrome only happens to about 30% of RNY patients. For me, if I can't keep my hand out of the cookie jar without some form of sick self-punishment of puking, nausea, and fatigue then do I really need to have WLS? I knew I had to change my relationship with food regardless of which WLS I chose. 7) I like my NSAIDS. With RNY, they are a complete NO NO. Also, in the future, if I were to need to take steroids, I didn't want to worry about them eating my pouch. 8) I have a lot (like 10) friends in real life that all struggle tremendously with RNY especially those that are 5-8 years out. I have one that just had her 4th surgery related to her 7yr old RNY. My other dear friend is now on Iron infusions every 4 weeks because she can't eat iron rich foods, and iron pills irritate her pouch so badly. 7 out of 10 have regained at least 40 pounds, and only 4 of them experience dumping, but it's not as severe as it was for them when early out. 9) That no hunger thing is awesome with the sleeve. The fundus being cut away and removed from the body, removes the main source of Ghrelin production in our bodies. At 15 months out, I'm still never physically hungry. I love food, I eat, but I'm not hungry. I was always hungry with my band. I would eat, be satisfied with the small portion in my pouch. Then food would pass through, and I'd be starving again. It was a miserable cycle. The stats with VSG and RNY on weight loss are neck and neck. The studies out there for gastrectomies (partial or full removal of the stomach) for cancer and ulcer patients gave me peace of mind that for my long term health, VSG was the answer to my weight loss surgery needs. Best wishes on your research. I have tons of links and information in my blog on here if you'd like to read some of the stats. I'll add you to my contact list so you can access my blog if you'd like. Look for the blog post called "Just to bookmark this" it's lapband information, but at the bottom of that post, there are lots of links for VSG.

I have decided to get a revision from a sleeve to gastric bypass. My heartburn is getting worse and i'm gaining weight. I was originally sleeved in 2017. I am ready for this second chance because I have to self pay. I can't believe I have two full-time jobs and I'm still concerned about costs for this procedure. My first job won't cover the procedure and the second contracting job won't either. Since being sleeved, I never got to my goal weight. If you have any recommendations for bariatric surgeons in the Atlanta area, please let me know because my original surgeon has since retired during covid. I've found one surgeon, but he's very pricey at $24,000 and it doesn't include post-op appointments (insurance can cover), labs (insurance can cover), nutritional visits, (not covered by insurance) or supplements. Any feedback is welcomed.

It's too late, but did I make the right decision?
rbtnln posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve done at the end of November, 2013. It was a band to sleeve revision. I was what I would have called a "slow loser" but found out some things I was doing wrong. So, I changed some of what I was doing - went to 1000 calories/day, added fruits and vegetables to my diet instead of just Protein and began walking and working out some. Now, I know you're going to say, "If you're working out you're adding muscle which weighs more than fat." Ok, I'm not working out THAT hard. A couple of weeks ago I had an NSV by getting into size 20 clothes from a size 26/28. I hit the 40 pound loss mark in 4 months. I was feeling really good. But things have changed. I'm still in a 20, which I'm happy about. But I'm losing my hair. The one thing that I have ALWAYS prided myself on. Even when I was over 300 pounds, my hair always looked good. It was healthy, bouncy and in really good shape. Then, pieces of it started coming out when I showered. I'd go to soap myself up and have to remove strands of hair from the bar of soap. I thought, "Well, that's the price of bariatric surgery I suppose." I started taking Biotin after reading some messages on here. I also made sure I got at least 60 grams or more of protein a day and have been averaging over 60 grams a day for over a month now. I thought it probably wasn't as bad as I was making it out to be. Then, I went to my hair dresser for a cut yesterday. She started washing my hair and said, "Oh my, you're really getting thin." My daughter is getting married in 2 months and my hairdresser said we may have to get a hair piece to help cover up some of thinness if it doesn't get any better. What?!?!?!?!?!? Are you frickin' kidding me? Oh, and it gets worse. I stepped on the scale this morning and was 3 pounds heavier!! WHAT?!?!?!!?!?!?!? I've been following my diet strictly and haven't gone over 1000 calories. I've looked at the snack cakes in my daughter's snack drawer and walked away. ARE YOU FRICKIN' KIDDING ME?!?!?!? 3 POUNDS?!?!?!!?!?!? And this is after a 2 week plateau. I'm ready to give up. I know this weight didn't come on over night but I really expected more than 40 pounds in 4 months. And, I know that we all have weight fluctuations but mine have only been a pound here and there. 3 pounds? Higher??? That's crazy. If I was cheating, sure, I can see that. But I'm not. I'm a bit fed up. I don't want to hear about losing inches vs. pounds and changing things up. I've done that. I guess I just want to bitch and complain. Has anyone else gone through this mental torture and how did you get your HEAD back in the game? I'm beating myself and my sleeve up right now. I need a mental kick in the ass. Any advice? -
how fast is the weight loss?
SoccerMomma73 replied to Tina727's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my dear, it's so variable! I'm 4 months post and down 45, I seem to be losing slow compared to most on here but I have no problems with any food and I feel great so I'll take it! I'm 5'6, started at 255, shooting for 150, currently 210. I am a revision from a lap band and was warned revisions tend to lose slower... I highly recommend not comparing our journey to others though,it'll drive you crazy!!!!! Good luck!!!!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 210 -
Post op sleeve compared to post op lap band
Embrace replied to wright616's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello wright616, My band to sleeve revision was last July 28. My band and my sleeve were performed by the same surgeon and he put in the band for "eternity." Unfortunately, that worked against me when it had to come out 6 years later. The band did not slip but I couldn't keep down anything by the end and the vomiting caused serious problems with my esophogus. I had a significant amount of scar tissue around the port and my surgery took 3 hours (about 1.5 hours longer than anticipated). In spite of the more extensive surgery, my hospital stay was the standard 36-hours. I can tell you that I felt very little "general" pain. Actually, the whole experience would have been very easy on me with one exception: there was a lot -- A LOT -- of discomfort where the port was removed. It was about the size of a grapefruit. I made the pain worse because I pulled the area once trying to get off the hospital bed to go to the bathroom on the first night. I pulled it again, badly, when I tried to get off the couch on the second day I was home. After that, the area hurt for about 2 solid weeks and then was just sore for another week after that. Walking helped for all the reasons that you've probably heard: pain management, accelerating the anethesia out of the body, weight loss, etc. I had absolutely no trouble walking from the first time that the nurse got me out of bed. That localized area burned while I walked but it wasn't unbearable, just persistent. Honestly, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. No hesitation. No regrets. I wish you all the best with your surgery. Good luck! Embrace -

How long have you had your lap band?
missyjk79 replied to dejageel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had my band for five years this month I've already had it revised a year ago I lost 105 pounds which was goal for me in a two year period. Maintained for a year. I gained back 50 in the last two years with my complications from my band slipping I don't regret getting it but it's frustrating going through the issues. I feel that I have had to start over but the restriction now is way different than when I had my band the first time around. I have the same band but it was repositioned from the slip. My doctor said that there's a 50% chance that my band will slip again. Frustrating. -
Well, I learned a valuable life lesson yesterday... Went for my second fill - Dr. couldn't seem to figure out if he was in the port or not - could not get Fluid to draw back. Put in 1 cc. Called in his partner - same story, put in about 2cc trying to figure it out, couldn't get it back. Tried to drink Water after that....Oh my -- now I know what you all are talking about with your PB stories!! Instant severe pain, thought I was going to pass out (vaso-vagal response) and finally up it all came. BUT....they couldn't get the fill out. So, I had to have an emergency port revision last night - found tubing had kinked. But here's the kicker: One of my daughters graduated from high school last night, 60miles away in our home town, while I was 60miles away at the hospital...the same time I had to have my surgery!! My appointment had been in the morning, plenty of time to get back home...or so I thought. Couldn't get the surgery until night... The moral of this story- Never schedule a fill when you HAVE to be somewhere that day! Guess I'll be on Clear liquids today and mushies tomorrow - so much for the parties we're having this weekend! I was hoping the fill would help me stay on my diet...well, I guess it will REALLY do that! I can laugh about it now, but it didn't seem as funny last night.
