I just had blood tests done while on B12, biotin, calcium, D3+K2, folate, and a bariatric multivitamin with iron. 2.5 months post-op, my B12 and folate are on the high end of normal (so am expecting to be told to drop those). My calcium is okay, my D3 is okay, and my iron is fine but my iron binding capacity is low.

November Surgery Buddies!!!
Lifestyle Changer replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My nutritionist has me starting eating things like scrambled eggs, canned chicken or tuna with very little light mayo to moisten it so it won’t get stuck going down while swallowing. I can eat lean ground beef, thin sliced deli roast beef and turkey, shrimp, cottage cheese, yogurt some cooked vegetables. I still need at least one protein drink included in my day. My nutritionist stated I have to introduce these foods slowly to determine if my new stomach can digest these food. She some patients find out that the foods they ate before surgery find out they are unable to eat afterwards. I am so excited to start transitioning to textured foods but nervous at the same time that my new stomach will handle it now. Wishing all my fellow November Surgery Buddies who are transitioning to the next phase of your diet plan. What do you all think of changing our group name from “November Surgery Buddies” to “2021 November Surgery Warriors” I believe this group we are all warriors from our decision making, preparing or already has their gastric bariatric surgery as well as joining BariatricPal for support. I will understand if no one wants to change the groups name. I just wanted to bring it up as a suggestion. Reading these posts and seeing how much all of support each other made me look at how much we have a lot of strength and are uplifting thoughts for each other. It reminds me that we are warriors of battling our challenges together. -
I would try a three pronged approach. Obviously start with your surgeon. Ask for a referral to a bariatric therapist for some back up. I would also meet more regularly with the bariatric dietitian for hands on real tactics to feeling full. I would be tempted to go back to WW as well for group chat and accountability. I had to get a new hobby of crochet to keep my hands busy and give warm clothing to the homeless shelter to “feel full.” You will find your fullness and feel comfortable in your body too.

Hi everyone, I am new to Bariatric Pal. I just got my surgery date for December 8th. My last meal was Thanksgiving and I lost a pound even though I ate. Today is day one of my pre-op liquid diet. I am so ready for the surgery. I am having the Ruen-Y. The count down is on. -
Happy Thanksgiving 🍗
Lifestyle Changer replied to EsojLabina's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My gastric sleeve surgery was about was just over 3 weeks ago. I’m still on bariatric III which is the liquid and some full liquid diet. This is my first Thanksgiving. My husband, sister and brother-in-law had all the traditional turkey fixings and desserts. I had Progresso tomato soup. Then a couple hours later I had some sugar free chocolate pudding. I guess you can say I had a non traditional turkey dinner. Happy Thanksgiving to you all -
I think you need to talk to your bariatric surgeon. Many do prescribe appetite suppressant medication.

I'm sorry you've had such a stressful, negative experience. I think all the docs/staff are so burned out that those of us at this point in the year are getting the dregs. It's scary. I was told only bariatric vitamins and supplements, and nothing chewable, but do whatever your nutritionist/team said to do. There's so many versions of what is/isn't OK to do, it's tricky to sort it all out. Hang in there!! Congrats and kudos to you for getting through the surgery and back home. That's a fantastic start!

You need a high dose Multi-Vitamin such as Bariatric Pal's One-a-Day (or double "normal" one-a-day vitamins), sub-lingual Vitamin B12, D3, and 1500 mg Calcium Citrate. If your dietitian gave you other directions, follow them.

Since surgery in June 2021 I have taken 2 Bariatric fusion multi vitamin chewable and 1 Bariatric fusion calcium daily. I recently had to add in a chewable fusion iron 2x a week bc my iron is low. Glad you mentioned the biotin isn’t working bc I’m losing fair and was gonna order it next.

I'm struggling

I was also told if I got the Celebrate I didn’t need anything else. Unfortunately the celebrate Vitamin wasn’t for me. It made me instantly nauseated and sick to my stomach and the next day my urine was bright yellow. I have had good luck with Bariatric Fusion multi chewable vitamins (2 per day) and Bariatric Calcium chew (1 per day). Hope you figure out what works best for you soon! -

Sunnyway replied to Babin.jessica1993's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Broth is a low calorie liquid that helps you meet your fluid requirements. It's protein value is irrelevant. It's just one more thing to help you achieve your desired outcome. As for supplements, you need a high dose multi-vitamin such as Bariatric Pal's One-a-Day (or double "normal" one-a-day vitamins), sub-lingual vitamin B12, D3, and 1500 mg Calcium Citrate. If your dietitian gave you other directions, follow them. For pain, you can take Tylenol. Exhaustion on Day 4 is totally normal. Relax, take it one day at a time. You've got this! -
Anyone else terrified?
LurkieKitty replied to sunhineG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It definitely is normal to feel that way, I had my first surgery honestly, this year. I was having pain from gallstones so my surgeon decided it's best to remove my gallbladder before I have the gastric sleeve done so it was done a month before my gastric sleeve. I was extremely terrified of being put to sleep because my family has lost someone to complications in the past so that was on my mind, but when I was finally there and being prepared my mind was a blank slate. The last thing I wanted was my pressure to rise because I'm prone to panic attacks too, and that would be the thing that could cause complications. What helped me was to focus on things I want to do in the future, just happy thoughts. Another thing that helped was because my plan requires a bariatric group meeting prior, I voiced my concern about being put to sleep there and there was this one woman that was like "it's the best sleep I ever had". Bearing that in mind, I was like "I'm just going to have an awesome nap" when I was walking into the operating room. They didn't even tell me to count backwards, all I heard was the IV might make me feel cold and the anesthesiologist telling me to think happy thoughts... then the next thing was I was waking up in recovery. You don't even realize you went to sleep it seems. -
There are lots of bariatric cookbooks available on Amazon and elsewhere, even some for InstantPot and AirFryers. Some of them are specifically meal prep guidelines and recipes. You are smart to be thinking ahead. Here are some of the cookbooks I've obtained:

So glad you are doing well. They made my daughter drink from a medicine cup every 15 min. I wasn’t a true “bariatric” so the orthopedic floor didn’t know what to do with me.

November Surgery Buddies!!!
LurkieKitty replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The pain on the left side might be due to the surgeon closing you up on that side, for me I had more pain on my right side because my surgeon tends to do all his work on the right side. I'd say if it's too much and pain meds aren't working or if you're out of pain meds to try to contact your surgeon so you can ask what side you were closed on and/or inquire about the pain you feel or you can do so at your post op appointment if they gave you one (typically they give you one for a week after the surgery). You could also inquire about pain medication - try to find out if they can prescribe a little more, or ask what you are able to use in it's place.. One of my bariatric doctors said I can take extra strength Tylenol (which I didn't try, I just dealt with the pain), but every surgeon is different in terms of recommendations. -
I had my surgery yesterday November 23rd and it went well. I also had hernia repair at the same time. So far I am not in much pain just a little discomfort. The nurses were surprised at how well I was doing. I drank two bottles of water. Took me several hours but I got and keep it down. No Nausea and i have I walked every our sometimes twice an hour to help with the gas. For now the gas discomfort is completely tolerable. The worst pain was my throat from the intubation, but still tolerable. I just made my first Bariatric fusion shake today and so far so good. Just slipping on water in between. I know I will probably have some bad days, but I’m happy the start has been really good.

Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
SummerTimeGirl replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you!! I have been taking the ones mentioned on this site, ProCare Health. I have been taking the ones with 45mg of iron. They've also been the most reasonably priced, IMO, too. https://procarenow.com/products/bariatric-multivitamin/ -
This is my starting weight. I am going through the process of getting bariatric surgery.
-
I have been hungry since right after surgery. I don't want a specific food or taste, and I feel like when before I had surgery if I hadn't eaten all day. My bariatric therapist said about 20% of patients still have hunger after surgery. They prescribed metformin and it has helped a lot.

Hi everyone, im new on here. Wls is something i have thought about for a few years now but not seriously, i always thought eventually I'll do it on my own. I started putting on weight at around 12 years old. I was sexually abused from age 10 too 11. This affected me dramatically and i shut myself off from everything and food was my comfort. I have tried and failed at diets ever since. Iv tried most of the diets going, slimming world more tines than i can count, ww when it was weight watchers, rosemary connelly, cabbage soup diet, calorie counting and not eating for days at a time. Each time i lose some but eventually give up when the weight loss sticks and each time i end up heavier than before. Im now almost 23 stone (317lb) and im 5 foot 8 inches tall. My bmi 48 so im classed as morbidity obese. I wear 24/26 clothes. I have arthritis in my knees, feet and back which makes it difficult to exercise due to the pain and i know losing weight would help me a lot. My parents both have high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels and my mom is type 1 diabetic and has to inject insulin. The last few months i have thought more seriously about wls, i have spoken to the weight management woman at my gp surgery who got my doctor to refer me to bariatrics. I have a blood sugar blood test tomorrow and then i will be referred to hospital. I only spoke the her last week so im shocked im getting referred so quickly. I will be around reading posts and asking questions of you i hope thats ok. What questions should i ask when i get seen? Sent from my SM-A526B using BariatricPal mobile app

I am a myfitnesspal paid version fan, though there are several things I don't like. 1. Too many glossy pictures of food. I am trying to avoid all the glamour surrounding food. Food should be a tool to stay alive or prevent illness. Most of the obesity epidemic is due to advertising. The remainder is due to ignorance about nutrition, nutrition labels and the actions of unscrupulous food processors. 2. Much of the data is untrustworthy. People constantly post foods that don't even have all the information on a nutrion panel let alone the correct info. 3. I have to enter the nutrition data myself in my foods section for everthing I eat. 4. Myfitnesspal is not providing support for bariatric people or for people that weigh all of their foods. I have been using myfitnesspal for over 7 years now and lost over 100 lb three times while using it. It otherwise is the best thing out there to use.

Need massive help
Arabesque replied to Octalmist37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like @Sunnyway I have a lot of respect for Dr Matt Weiner’s advice. If you don’t want to get the books he also has great videos on You Tube: https://m.youtube.com/user/DrMatthewWeiner/videos I really like his recommendation to make one change at a time in your eating. Make a change then a couple of weeks later make another. Small changes are easier to manage & accept. And you get small wins to help you refocus & get back on the best path for you. Maybe start by tracking your intake again so you have a better picture of what & how much you’re eating. Then drop something from your diet. A couple of weeks later swap out something for a healthier choice. It will take time but it may help to make the changes permanent cause that’s how to be successful long term - permanent & sustainable changes to how, what & why we eat. Were you referred to a bariatric therapist during your approval process? If so, may be reach out to them again or contact your surgeon & ask for a referral to a reputable & experienced therapist. Many, many people have had success with therapy. It will help you better understand & manage what drives you to eat & help you find the motivation to take control of your eating habits. All the best. -
My bariatrics team says that a runny nose is common after eating a large meal for us gastric sleeve people. It's something about a nerve. Does anyone know any more about this.?
