I lived in leggings, same X-Large size, from my highest weight until now. It was only when I went through my closet that I realized the size 18, 16 and 14s pants/jeans were falling off. So I bit the bullet and went to the mall to buy new jeans. Tried on the next reasonable size 12, and it was too big. Settled into a 10, which stretches out with wear and needs a belt, but I am happy to say that the weight loss did eventually end up in smaller size jeans! Don't be discouraged by clothes size. You will hit a point where it seems like you are dropping a size every week. But everyone losses weight differently. And if you're like me, I carried a lot of my weight in my gut area. Be excited about loosing 50 lbs.! Congratulations and keep doing what you're doing - it obviously is working!

Some Surprises I didn't expect with WLS
jpeits52 replied to Holodisplay's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I dress in layers ALL the time. But I have hot flashes, so it is sweater on sweater off sweater on sweater off. LOL At 68 thought I would be past hot flashes... Must use a pillow between my leg as or my knees hurt Also sitting on certain chairs make my tailbone hurt ( Never had THAT problem before WLS) LOL At 1yr 8months post-op I am still breaking out Have lost 1/2 a shoe size Not happy with extra skin, but at my age not going to spend megabucks on plastics surgery I can move sooooo much better than I could 10- 20 years ago so much more energy, LOVE buying single digit size clothes So grateful to God for all these changes!!! -
I am 68 and am right there with you. Short of spending many thousands on plastic surgery, I get to live with the extra skin. A small price to pay for health. 😀😀

As @Arabesque said, there are many factors at play. I don't know how much you weigh, how old you are, etc. I can say that while I do have loose skin on my arms, you would never know by just looking at me. I can pinch my skin and stretch it way out, but if I am not doing that, it looks pretty much like it is not loose. I did have my surgery pretty young, age 23, so that absolutely effected my outcome. Anyway, good luck! I hope this weight loss journey goes well for you.

I am only 62 but have been really happy with the results of my bypass. However... that said, I didn't realize that I would end up with so much wrinkled skin. I've been reading the forums for two years and haven't seen any other mentions of this outcome for older people. Without clothes, I look about 75. My dermatologist said that there's nothing that can be done -- I should just keep covered up. I'm probably an aberration since this isn't ever mentioned by posters and my surgeon said nothing about it.

There’s really only one way to get rid of loose skin & that is to have it surgically removed. Your skin has been stretched out and it can’t stretch back. But in saying that there are factors, like age, general skin elasticity, how long you were at your highest weight, how much you weighed at your highest weight, etc. that may mean you don’t have as much loose skin. I have flabby, flappy upper arms but have decided not to have any surgery. I just keep my elbows close to my body. No waving my arms in the air like I don’t care - lol! I even got told I had lovely arms a couple of months ago 😂. You can dress around your arms too. I don’t wear strappy or strapless tops but that’s no bother. I love all the puffed sleeves about at the moment & off the shoulder tops are very flattering. You won’t feel the heat nearly as much either when you lose your weight so a sleeve won’t be as much as an issue. Good luck.

Soooo I kinda have flabby arms; had them before my surgery. I'm wondering if anyone lost that as they lost weight?? Did you do something to help with toning that area?? I will begin my soft food stage in a few days and have my first appt at that time. I was trying to wait before adding in workouts. I've just been walking for now. For me it's a big insecurity for me. I feel like it not something you can hide like loss skin on your tummy and legs. What are some things you guys did??

I've lost 100 lbs total since highest weight and can still wear my 26 jeans which were tight when at my highest. they are now loose at the waist but I have big legs so they are fine there. I also can't really go to a store and try things on right now due to the pandemic so just holding tight.

Hi there! I'm new here, but am super excited to have found an online forum to participate in while I go on this journey. I am (hopefully) going to be getting gastric bypass at MUSC in the coming months. I'll be self-pay (dang insurance exclusions) so slightly less hoops to jump through, but I have not yet met with the surgeon or anything. My initial consult is March 1st. I kind of wanted to share what my "breaking point" was that ultimately resulted in the call to schedule a consult, and maybe see if other people would share theirs in the hopes that I am not alone. Be warned that it may be TMI for some people, and is definitely not something I have shared with anyone in my social circle (they are not as big as me and would likely be not only disgusted, but not understand). A little background on me, I've basically been obese since right after high school, so around 17 years now. The range of how obese has varied but steadily climbed upwards until my heaviest of 273 (I'm 5'4"). I've done every diet under the sun, including some really really unhealthy ones (HCG anyone?). I've got high blood pressure, problems with my skin constantly being flushed, signs of pre-diabetes, aches and pains from minimal daily activities.. a lot of the same stuff I suspect a lot of people here have had too. You'd think that the health issues would have been enough, and you'd be mostly right. They were enough for me to look into weight loss surgery, but not enough alone for me to actually take the plunge. I kept putting that off. No, to finally make the call it took me having trouble wiping my own butt after pooping. Maybe it's cause I'm just not that flexible, but it sure felt like all the accumulated fat on my arms, side, butt, and back were getting in the way of actually reaching. That was my breaking point. Sitting on a toilet, straining to try and get myself clean and realizing I couldn't. Now, I did eventually manage with a quick shower of my lower half and some creative use of a towel to dry off/make sure there wasn't anything the water didn't get, but I still can't shake the feeling of being unclean every time I have to use the bathroom. Lord knows I am not asking my husband to come wipe poo from my butt. Am I alone in the struggle? What thing, or things, made you finally decide this was what you needed after you'd been maybe putting it off?

Autoimmune diseases & bariatric surgery ??s
NovaLuna replied to Reign7780's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Not sure if my own experiences could offer any insight... but, I have two autoimmune diseases/disorders: Psoriasis and Eosinophilic Esophagitis. Psoriasis deals with skin issues though there is some joint pain that comes with that. And Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EOE) has to do with the white cells in your esophagus thinking your body is under attack and multiplying. It causes narrowing in your esophagus which leads to dysphagia and choking issues. Acid issues. Chest pain and abdominal pain. And the occasional time where food backs up on you and either gets stuck in your throat trying to come out or you spit or throw it up (generally when you eat too fast, too soon, or too much). I'm allowed to drink a little if I choke BECAUSE of the EOE (I rarely have to though. Usually only once or twice a week where I have a choking incident and need to take a sip). I do deal with more fatigue then most. I don't actually know if it's due to either of my autoimmune disorders or if it has to do with another health issue that may actually be ANOTHER autoimmune disorder (my doctor is trying to figure out if I have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) or if my various symptoms with the fatigue is caused by a spinal fluid leak (the two have very similar symptoms and are often misdiagnosed as the opposite problem so my doctor is trying to cover all her bases and figure out which one it is. We're both HOPING it's the spinal fluid leak because that could be fixed semi-easily while the other issue has no cure as the meds for it didn't work for me. I really hope it's the spinal fluid leak because if it's the other I'd end up permanently disabled and I'm only 33 so I very much don't want that). I do know that despite still having fatigue issues, I have more energy now than I did six months ago (I'm almost 13 months post op) so I feel that it WILL get better. At least a bit. Hopefully whatever treatment they have for you improves upon that as well! I wish you the best! -
Fruit/Veggie Skin
STLoser replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been eating skins on fruits and veggies since they allowed it, which was around 8 weeks I believe. I've never had any problem at all. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Gorgeous! 😍😍😍 ps. Pretty sure I will not be fixing loose skin on my arms either 😂 when they are down, you just can’t tell 🤷♀️

Food Before and After Photos

WOWWWWWWWW! That came out absolutely perfect!! Seriously! You can really tell the meat is super soft, and that skin .... my mouth is watering just thinking about it 🤤🤤 Using pineapple on the pork reminds me of Cuban style pernil where they use sour oranges. I need to try making one this way! Was it sweet? But you're right, its a ton of work just because you have to keep an eye on it. I believe the last time I made one I through it in the oven covered for 7 hours and then uncovered for about 3 so I can only Imagine what 19 hours did to it ❤️ Cant wait to see how the estofado de res comes out! -
Tummy Tuck...coming soon to a tummy near you!
Jaelzion posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Courtesy of BitCoin spiking up in price, I may be having my tummy tuck sooner, rather than later. It's not covered by insurance, so I'll have to pay out of pocket. Although I have loose skin everywhere, it only bothers me in two places: my tummy and under my chin. The tummy because it makes me look pregnant, LOL. I'm small everywhere but there. And the chin because it ages me. So I've scheduled a couple of consultations with local surgeons and we'll see what happens! -
Keeping surgery a secret? What did you tell others?
TC68 replied to rmarierenwick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How much weight is a normal amount to loose in the first 2 weeks after bypass? -
My doctor told me that the "cold" is because of the rapid weight loss. Our layer of fat (insulation) just below the skin has disappeared due to weight loss, thus feeling cold. I live in Florida and even 70 degree days require a sweater when I go outside! Socks are a must. Gloves and a hat if its windy or below 60. Crazy, but I love it! Sure beats being hot and fat!

I can't blv how diff everyone's plans are. It seems like my docs won't let me do anything at all. No soda, alcohol, fruit/veggie skin, no pasta, bread, rice, etc. -
Fruit/Veggie Skin
catwoman7 replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had bypass. We weren't supposed to eat the skin the first two or three months, but I don't think they meant that forever. I've been eating the skins for quite awhile now (I'm almost six years out). I'm pretty sure I started eating the skin sometime within the first year, though....maybe when I was a few months out (??) -

You had the sleeve so I wonder if its different. I had the bypass, and was told not to eat the skin. -

Fruit/Veggie Skin
Creekimp13 replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's really individual. Add a little bit with caution and see how it goes. I've been eating the skin on my potatoe since I was about three months out....zero issues. However, even three years out now, I still have issues with corn on the cob! Corn is literally the only thing I have to be careful with...and only if it's crunchy (not very cooked) off the cob. Canned and frozen corn I'm ok with. Popped corn I'm ok with. But that darn corn on the cob....needs extra caution for me. Which stinks...because I love it! Have zero issues with any fruit skins, no problems eating meats of all types. Just fresh corn. Everyone's different. Just be cautious...a little at a time....and see how ya do. Best wishes. -
Fruit/Veggie Skin
catwoman7 replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you're probably OK to do it now. I eat the skins. IIRC, it was just the first two or three months when we weren't supposed to eat those ("we" being the patients at my particular clinic) -
Is everyone still peeling their fruits & veggies before eating? I am still doing it, almost 6 months post op. I haven't tried to eat anything with the skin still on. Not sure if this is a forever thing?

Cool Sculpting

Sorry, It does absolutely nothing for loose skin and is very expensive for the results you can expect.
