I smashed them down with a spoon before freezing...Gave it a good mix too, so consistency was like drippy yogurt before freezing -
Think milk is giving me an upset tummy
KDBaker replied to Poppygirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a similar issue for my first few months post-op. Yogurt was fine. Cottage cheese? Fine! Milk to mix a protein shake? Bad. So bad. I've taken to mixing my shakes with almond milk. I can have regular milk now without getting sick, but sometimes it doesn't sit right. -
Eggs are not allowed through my plan until after 8 weeks, due to them being such a harsh protein to digest. I think like the others have said, Greek yogurt, finely pureed meats, and things like cream of wheat with unflavored protein powder my be gentler on your healing tummy. I'm still pretty new - my loverly band isn't even 2 weeks old yet, and I haven't had my 1st fill - so I don't have a lot to contribute at this point. I am trying to excercise - but I don't really like it. There are some things I truly enjoy doing, and I will eventually get my world situated so that I can do those things, but for now I do what I can. I walk some, dance some with my wife, and have re-started my attempts to build some ab muscles via crunches and the like. I am trying to contain my snacking - at the moment, I'm usually able to limit it to Protein drinks, yogurt/smoothies, and (when it's more 'munchy' than hunger) sugar free pudding. But again, I'm still on the post-surgery mushy phase of things... there's more than just my willpower keeping me in check.

I also had fat-free refried Beans - I used shredded low-fat cheddar, some salsa anad a small dallop of low-fat sour cream with mine. Careful with the carbs though - they can add up with beans. Had lots of canned chicken and tuna - added low-fat mayo and pickle relish. Cottage cheese and yogurt (check out Yoplait's 2X Protein!) are easy and high in Protein. The Protein shakes are a good boost of protein when you need it. I "mushed up" the meatloaf, gravy and mashed potatoes from a SmartOnes frozen dinner. That was pretty yummy - and easy!!! I divided the meat, gravy and potatoes into 2 perfectly proportioned meals - about 1/2 cup each. oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, Malt O Meal are good but again, watch the carbs...... Good luck! It's a nice step up from liquids

AM I the only one? I love yogurt - greek, sweet, whatever - but it doesn't go down very well. I can eat steak and chicken, but not yogurt? Anyone else have this goofy issue?

And the WTH have I done feeling has hit
TijuanaPlication replied to amw's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I found Yoplait yogurt drinks to be great when I moved to full liquids. They have a resealable lid so you can just sip a little as and when I got hungry. Fermented milk (ie yogurt) is generally well tolerated even by those with lactose issues. Maybe something like that will help you. All the best - you've not got long until mushies - although it seems like an eternity!! -
Thank God someone posted about this.....I'm starting mine tomorrow for two wks and wanted to know some of the acceptable foods...I have my protein shaker and yogurt does it have to be any specific kind? I have Greek....don't really like the taste if the others. Can I do oatmeal I'm really concerned about liver issue

Wastefulness
Catracks replied to ChunkyAndFluffy75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I save everything in little tupperwares. I am not able to throw good food away. I plan my menuus out so that meat cooked for dinner goes into lunch the next day. I don't cook something new until I've finished the leftovers. Cottage cheese and yogurt are easy. Just take 1/4 cup out. The chunky part of the Soup could be frozen and pureed or used when the time comes. I've got chicken breast and gravy, 4 types of pureed soup and crock pot beef stew frozen in mini tupperwares for use as needed. What I learned from Eggface is that leftovers can be revamped into something else for the next day. She does these little quiche things that use leftover meats and cheese. They can also be casseroled or used as toppings for pizza (crust is low carb wheat tortillas). The cool part of all this small portions is that I can afford beef fillet mignon, sashimi grade ahi and lobster for the amount I eat. YAY!!!! -
I'm not allowed tomatoes or tomato soup for the first month, but my first month is considered 'modified solids/full liquids' so I can have cottage cheese, soft cheese, yogurt, strained cream Soups, refried Beans, etc. Today was my first day for full liquids rather than Clear Liquids. I did well at b-fast with 1 oz cottage cheese/1 oz unsweetened applesauce. However, I tried a string cheese at lunch and couldn't finish it - I'm not sure if the feeling was "full" or if it was just too much too soon on my baby sleeve, but I was able to finish 1/2 oz of it and 1 oz of sugar-free chocolate pudding. I'm going to try strained cream of mushroom soup for dinner - an oz of that and probably another oz of applesauce.

March Sleevers - what does your diet consust of
djbwilson replied to Jazzy1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am a March 19th..I am eating pretty much the same as everyone else..refried beans, shrimp and broiled fish, chewed well, greek yogurt, egg beaters with turkey sausage mixed in for breakfast, I do miss a fresh salad..don't know when I can have that, but I am really focused on the protein righ now. I also found Chick Fil A will sell their chicken salad in a cup for about $3. It makes 2-3 meals for me! Pudding and jello is getting old. i do eat lunch meat with a little grated cheese and squirt of mustard in it (my version of a ham sandwich!) Y'all share some more ideas! im learning a lot from this site! -
March Sleevers - what does your diet consust of
WorkItOutWoman replied to Jazzy1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sleeved 3/18/13 and allowed eggs yogurt refried beans cottage cheese and sf pudding. My diet was advanced to this at my one week postop checkup. The only thing I have eaten is cottage cheese and refried beans no more than 2 oz at a time. The thought of plain eggs makes me ill which is why I have not eaten them and I can barely stomach the sicky sweet protein drinks which is why I won't eat sf pudding either. I am so exited for my 3 month postop visit because I will be given more foods to eat. -
And the WTH have I done feeling has hit
Deakay replied to amw's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I've been on mushies for a week and still do 2 protein shakes a day just to get it all in. I'm afraid I will try to eat too much getting all of the 70 - 80 grams a day with just food. And I'm kinda lazy about packing lunch for work 2 shakes and a yogurt and I'm good til 2:00. I had my WTH moment as soon as I woke up in the hospital....it took a couple days but is all good now. AND I beat my coffee addiction while sleeping on morphine for 2-1/2 days! Go me! -
I was eating yogurt..when it started......i was like wth...im not hungry..trust n believe...i made cheeseburgers for dinner....and didnt even want a bite

Three Day sPost Surgery - Can't get anything down
Houston_Rich replied to Lisa Jo B's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yep, broth and crystal lite and maybe some protein shakes made with skim milk. day 3 was hard for me, starting with day 4 I could notice that every day got a little easier. I am not almost 2 weeks out and am able to get my 6 ounce protein shake down in 30 minutes no problem. yogurt I nibble on for half hour as well, just don't have the desire to woof anything down, just eating to provide fuel -

Encouragement needed struggling
JamieLogical replied to svelija's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wasn't even allowed any solids until 40 days post-op and it was slow going once I was. Trying to get in 4 oz. seems overly ambitious with how far out you are right now. Hell, I can only manage 2-4 oz. of meat and I'm almost 6 months out at this point. I can do better with more liquidy things, but straight up meat is still hard to get down in any significant quantity. I think my only "meal" right now that is over 4 ounces is greek yogurt, so that hardly counts. -
Breakfast- yoplait greek 100 calorie yogurt (10-13 g of prot, depending on flavor) Snack-light string cheese (8 g prot) Lunch- varies (usually Soup, tuna, chili, or eggs, 10-15 prot) Snack-pure Protein bar (20 g prot) Dinner- varies (15 g prot) My doc & nut want me to eat six times a day @ 1000 calories, I usually don't eat after dinner, but if I do I usually have some thing sweet, sf Jello, sf pudding, diet hot chocolate etc. On Sun, Tues, & Thurs on use my indoor bike while I catch up on last weeks shows On Mon & Wed I use resistance bands, 5 lbs weights, and my own weight to tone up the jiggle

is this normal? my stomach aches on and off throughout the day
andielmt posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
for the past month my stomach has been aching. it doesnt bother me when i eat but say an hour or two after. it feels like the band is eating its way through my stomach. its like a toothache on the outside. i know that you cant feel the band but im convinced that you can. what else would this be. alot of times i feel tight. i had my third fill on tues and i am eating very little due to the fact that my doctor said that i am tight. today i had a ww meal and ate the whole thing but thats as much as ive eaten since my fill. ive had slimfast , almonds, yogurt, protein bars. i am happy that im cautious again but im a little worried about the aching. i dont dare eat much in case this is a sign of overeating. what do you think? andrea -
Intense pain in pouch after taking pain meds
kiss-my-kitty replied to HelenaMarie83's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have the same reaction to Tylenol 3 and Tylenol 4 - my bariatric surgeon chalks it up to an increased sensitivity to Tylenol. What about straight hydrocodone or oxycodone, or even dilaudid or morphine? I'm not sure what the culprit in Tramadol is, as I take it PRN for herniated discs and a shoulder injury and have had no issues with it. Does it help to "sandwich" pills in some cheese or yogurt? Take a bite of the food and swallow, take the pill, then take another bite. I did that in the past while taking anti-depressants, since they can cause minor stomach irritation and I have had problems with ulcers (TWO emergency perforations; and two ulcers in between - I have bi-annual EGDs to keep track of them, and am on lifetime prescriptions of Protonix and Carafate). -

I just wrote a huge log and found out that I was not logged in. So, I am going to do the short version now.http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/faint.gif I had my lap band surgery on March 15th, 2007. It is now three days later and all is well. My incisions are painful when I move. The port incision is red and sore. I am going to call Barix in a few minutes to make sure that it okay. I gained nine pounds in the hospital and have lost seven of them so far. Today I have eaten half of a banana-milk-yogurt-sugar-free chocolate sauce shake, half of a chicken broth and a few sips of water. In a few minutes, I plan to finish the broth, drink more water and have a sugar-free fudge pop. -

Awesome topic. I've been wondering about the things i've read too. Several people saying they eat ANYTHING they want, just smaller portions. Honestly, it would be nice maybe 8months to a year down the mine to be able to have a cup of chow mein or a slice of pizza here and there, but as of now, i think its most important to train myself to eat well. I havent had a cheeseburger in almost 3 months and i'm amazed at how I dont crave it anymore. Im actually craving hummus and greek yogurt. Lol i'm almost 20days post op and if I start thinking I might be able to slide in chips or dessert soon then it's going to create a slippery slope. I know myself lol anyway, best of luck to everyone!
