I dont eat more than 4 oz other than my yogurt I finish the container. its 5.6 oz.... my calories before this... I couldn't say... That's how I got to this in the first place.... Not caring about my calories before weight-loss journey.... -

Me personally, I don't feel it's too much perse. How many calories were you eating prior to surgery? You should only be able to eat 2-4 ounces at one sitting but I was able to eat an entire container (5.3oz) of Greek yogurt. [emoji2368] Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I’m 3 weeks (almost 4) post op and feel like I’m actually eating too much…. I can almost eat 2 eggs in the morning Throughout the day I am eating about 600-800 calories ….. EXAMPLE: Yesterdays eating... Breakfast: 1 1/2 eggs scrambled with a VERY small drop of sugar free ketchup to keep moist Snack : Atkins coffee protein shake. Lunch : 4 oz of cream of cheddar/broccoli Snack : Oikos PRO Dinner : Tuna with light mayo pureed, and a fat free sugar free string cheese Snack: Oikos PRO Is this too much? I went from barely getting protein shakes down to this....

I am over a year out and in maintenance. I still choose to have a shake for breakfast daily 160, one of a handful of lunches that I know are around 300 calories, a choice of dinners under 500 and a couple of snack options right around 100 calories each. I have never eaten a ton of variety because I am pretty picky so this works for me. Someone with a lot of variety this totally wouldn’t work for. I can keep a pretty rough idea in my head. I basically just know if I ate to plan yes or no for my meals and how many snacks I have had and then I know if I’m on track for the day or not. (I know how many I can have after working it out actually logging for quite a while though). Some days my dinner may be less calories but other days I am super hungry and I have an extra snack so it balances out. Basically I semi log my food at this point but I do it in my head counting by 100’s. But I agree it is very good to do it in the beginning and do it for a good while because we first need to figure out where our calories need to be to lose and to maintain but also because there are foods that we just really don’t know how many calories are hidden in them. For me a big one was baby back ribs. Odd I know. I guess I just assumed it’s a meat. It’s innocent. It’s not a desert or a dreaded carb, right? And I knew the sauce was bad but the meat itself doesn’t have sugar so when I found a descent sugar free BBQ sauce I thought I had this meal all figured out. Well, did you know a HALF rack of baby back ribs has 668 calories WITHOUT sauce and 45 grams of fat!! That’s only about 4 oz of meat so a comparable chicken breast is only 190 calories sans the sauce. I am in my 40’s and I just learned this about ribs. I had never logged them because I don’t eat them often enough but I had a couple ribs on Father’s Day and I’ve been craving them ever since so I researched them a little. Guess I may just have to wait till next time i can have a couple off someone else’s plate, lol Anyways, my point is logging foods helps you to learn what is in most foods so you know if they are totally safe (green light), sorta pushing it (yellow light) or a total splurge (red light that you can run on occasion if you are in maintenance and have budgeted for it). Logging also helps you to learn little tricks you can live with for your favorite meals like the sugar free sauce, veggie substitutions, lower carb bread options, etc to make them a little better for you. Once you learn these things about most foods you will encounter day to day, a more “intuitive version of eating” seems more doable in my opinion. For me the ribs are a definite non runnable red light as I have gained 3 pounds above my happy weight I am not allowing myself ANY red light or yellow light foods until I drop these three pounds (I have also cut back on my snacks for the time being to make it go a bit faster). At almost 16 months out now this is the first time I have gained past my happy weight so I am making this up as I go but so far I have lost a pound and a half with this plan so it seems to be working for me. A lot of people like to use apps like my fitness pal for logging. Like anything else It takes a while to get it set up but once you do they say it’s goes pretty quick. I did it the old fashioned way which allowed me to keep a page of frequent meals so I could quickly add those. It’s just whatever works for you. Some people on here say they take a day off each week from logging or they only log on weekdays, etc. just commit to what you can because anything is better than not logging at all. -
almost everyone has their first major stall sometime during the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. It's usually the third week (hence we call it "the three week stall"), but not always. i just did a search of this site for you on the "three week stall" - there are 17,500 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding). here they are: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall your calories are fine. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days. As long as you stick to your program, the stall will break. Usually takes 1-3 weeks.

Yep, this is 100% normal. Take it from a serial staller (I also stalled at week 2 and every second week after) and slow loser (in that I've lost my weight at the same rate I would on a standard old-school calorie counting diet). Manage your expectations, and don't compare yourself to other people who are losing fast and aren't stalling. Doing that will only make you unhappy. Focus instead on the positives as they come, and they DO come. Feeling better, clothes getting looser, sleeping better, skin clearing up because you're not poisoning yourself with processed sugar anymore! The weight will come off. Distract yourself with activities that aren't about your weight, and stay off the scale for a couple of weeks. The stall will break. -
Stalls happen. They’re part of the weight loss journey. I wish surgeons & medical teams would explain this to people so they don’t think they’re failing like you are. You’re not! The first stall (yes first - you can experience a couple) often occurs around the third week but you can have them at any time. They usually last 1-3 weeks. I always thought of them as my body needing to take a breath to get used to all the changes, weight loss, diet, activity, etc., that have been stressing your body. Just like when you’re stressed & you may just want to shut the door & hide under the covers. Generally you don’t have to do anything. Why stress your body more?? If the stall persists 4 weeks or more, you may benefit from talking with your dietician. A small tweak to your diet or activity may be needed. But you won’t be in maintenance consuming 800-1000 calories. Some are encouraged to eat a lot more that that while losing. Your weight loss is never a straight line. It goes up & down, zig zagging about & plateauing. As long as the general trend is downwards, you’re golden. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

Hey Y’all! My Gastric bypass was on may 2nd 2022. I’m down 38 pounds but I’ve stalled! Sitting at around 276-278 (it fluctuates) I’ve been eating salads, nothing fancy but I measure everything out which ends up being around 240 calories with my dressing. And I’ve been obsessed with the no sugar added out shine popsicles. I’m wondering if my calories are too high? I usually am around 800-1000 and I walk and go to the gym so I’m thinking this is my maintenance calories and I’m not enough in a deficit? I’ve decided to switch it up and this week go back to basics of just 2 oz of protein and my serving of veggies. And I’ve cut back popsicles to 1 a day. I actually bought some popsicle holders and plan on taking my crystal light water and freezing it into popsicles to help get my water in also. Just wondering everyone else’s experience with stalling and how you got through it? I’m proud of what I have lost but can’t help feeling like I’m failing at this.l sometimes.

I can’t drink enough liquids

They have those one ounce cups on Amazon. But the hospital actually gave me medicine cups to use. The one ounce is good to use later to measure sauces too though and to take dressing with you. One ounce is the same as two tablespoons. So when you want to count calories for salad dressings and stuff they come In handy as well as when you want to take your own lower calorie dressing with you. -
Personally, I think the food they sell on this website is just junk food. I try to eat real, unprocessed foods like meat, fish, veggies, fruit, dairy, etc. When I want snacks I go for dried fruit and nuts or snacks in small portions. Yes, I eat real or artificially sweetened treats sometimes too, but I try to limit it. Most of the things on this website have TONS of calories! But, I love the message boards 🙂

On Micro-vacay with the girls…they got the late night munchies and ordered Uber-Eats subs, and i was all, um…no thanks. So i went across the street to get this salad. Surprisingly delicious considering i dropped the dressing packet somewhere on my way back. I may just eat dry salads from now on! The nutritional label said it was 350 calories for the container, but MFP didn’t recognize it when i tried to scan the bar code, so i just guessed the amounts to get as close the 350 as a could. Ta-da! The leftovers are still in the mini-bar (frozen, cuz I accidentally put it in the freezer section), and am probably gonna toss it. -

Coffee was a big deal for me after surgery too. Once you're allowed to have coffee in your plan again, then you should be ok with whatever you prefer to drink, but just take it slowly. Your post-op tummy might be more sensitive to caffeine. That was the case with me, but of course everyone is different. My plan didn't allow me to have caffeine until 4 months post-op per my surgeon's instructions. I think that's what I missed the most after surgery. Forget food, I wanted caffeine lol. Thankfully, I was able to have decaf during that time. That allowed me to at least have that comfort of a nice warm cup of coffee. But, once I could have regular coffee again, I started slowly with the ones I used to drink to see how my new tummy could handle it. For example, Starbucks coffee is rough on my tummy now, so I can't drink that as often as I used to, but homemade Folgers brand seems to go down smoothly. So I just recommend taking it slowly, and trying out different ones you like. I stick to just black coffee that I add my own almond milk creamer to. I measure out the creamer too so I don't accidentally overload it with excess calories. From one coffee lover to another, enjoy that next cup! 😊

I use the mini peppers when eating salsa or guacamole. If you eat chips, be honest with yourself and log them so they fit into your daily calorie budget (assuming you log). Just remember the surgery isn’t the fix, it’s a tool to help you make changes for the long term. I am a year and a half post op and basically went from 363 to 180. Have I been perfect, heck no! Am I more aware and have overall better habits, absolutely! What I’ve learned since my VSG is: 1. Give yourself some grace- we’re human after all 2. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good 3. One bad decision isn’t going to derail you- consistent bad decisions will! 4. Know that every day you have an opportunity to do better than the day before Good luck in your journey. -

Everyone posting their restaurant meals and all I can think is “I could make SO many meals for that price!” Anyway, this was dinner- homemade skin on mashed potatoes and a burger with mustard and Mayo and waaayyy too sweet pickles. No calorie tracking today but ate it all. That was before I prepped 7 meals for my kids for the next 3 days. I find it easier to meal prep for them so they aren’t constantly snacking or wondering what to eat over school breaks. yogurt parfaits with berries and homemade cranberry pecan granola egg and veggie sausage mini bagels with berries Korean beef bowls (veggie chicken nuggets for the vegetarian) with brown rice pasta salad with pepperoni and salami (hard boiled egg for the vegetarian) and berries cheese tortellini in homemade tomato sauce pasta salad with roasted chicken thighs (hard boiled eggs for the vegetarian) and leftover burgers with mashed potatoes and peaches. -

Stall out and depressed

Reach out to your team. I have heard before that sometimes you need to increase your calories for a week or so and then drop back down to like reboot your metabolism. I only heard about it on these groups, but it does make sense to me so I would ask your team for pointers. Ask about the calorie increase and see what they say? They are the pros, we all are just here for support and opinions. Good luck and you will get through this! You are doing an amazing job!❤️ -
I am feeling PHENOMENAL! I am working out 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day. I have been motivating friends and family to exercise, and even training some people. I am down 106 lbs since I started this journey in March of 2021. The process was rough but I am still pulling through. I had to up my calorie intake because my metabolism has increased so much. I was taken off of the diabetes medication all together. Went from taking 4 pills a day, to NONE!!! Sleep apnea has subsided, blood pressure meds were reduce DRAMATICALLY! This was the best decision I made concerning my health, in my life. I don't mind sharing my picture on this post and breaking anonymity. I just want to encourage you ALL to stay the process, ask questions, speak to your dietician and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK!!! GOD SPEED AND STAY HEALTHY!!!

What to eat in the soft food stage?

Check with your dietician. Some recommend waiting for a while but it can depend on what type you eat. Personally I found the no added salt or sugar ones very oily & tasteless. I tried a couple of different brands & tossed them all. Oh & watch the lite versions - the nutritional difference & calories is minimal. -
I know this is posted on here time and time again but I'm so frustrated. I'm getting ready for a cross country move. I really imagined that by this time I'd be in the 230s. I have stalled out for the last 3 or 4 weeks and am so frustrated about it. I keep going in between 248 and 251. I don't know if this is maintenance because im only a bit over 4 months post op from gastric bypass. I have definitely increased my calories but am eating in a deficit. My BMR is around 1900 and I'm eating in between 1000 and 1300 a day plus exercise. I have been slacking in water and have not been having protein shakes at all because I'm getting a decent amount through solid food and don't want the extra cals. How do I get past this? I'm going to stay off the scale until the end of next week but I'm still feeling really down and bad about myself. I feel like a disgusting fat mess honestly. I haven't had these feelings since pre op and I just need to vent about it. I was experiencing a period of mania a week ago for a good 2 weeks straight (I'm bipolar) and missed some of my meds. I think I might be crashing and going through a depressive state. It's not super bad but the weight loss stall is making me have a lot of negative self image and feelings of failure. Should I just get back on liquids for a week or something? I'm losing my mind and getting depressed as hell. I'm taking my meds regularly again. I really only missed like 3 or 4 days and I take a small dosage. So I'm hoping to even back out soon but the stall is messing with my brain and confidence. What do you do? 1/2 a bagel w/ cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers (plus an espresso martini beforehand). Am just about to sit down and eat this and I anticipate eat it all 435 calories (including the martini) -
My post-op is pretty strict, but not this. Clear liquids for the first nine days, but we can have broths, popsicles, tea, and juices. They actually encourage sugar during this week as our calories are so low.

My surgery was 6/14. Doesn’t feel like 12 days ago. Healing fast. I did clear fluids until day 6 post-op (plus 3 days preop). I went to stage 2 a day early because I was getting really light headed. It’s so crazy how different programs are. Now I’m on Fairlife Elite, strained soups, s/f pudding, baby meats & cereals, thinned cottage cheese, yogurt, probiotic, etc. Had to start a half pouch baby prune purée to promote BM. It all digests fine. I can feel the restriction around 1/4 to 1/2 cup. I lost 17 lbs (6/11-6/20) then have been stuck the past 6 days. Wondering if it’s too few calories? I never made it past 550/day so far. I have been meeting protein and water goals in stage 2. I walked 6 hours today (farming). Maybe it will un-budge me.
