Was this her initial gastric bypass or a revision type surgery, I'm a bit confused. -
Sleeve to Mini Bypass Revision

@FloraBama congratulations to you and glad to hear you are doing well. I'm about less than 30 minutes from having the same revision done as well in MX!!! Sent from my LG-LS980 using the BariatricPal App -
Now thinking if canceling surgery 🥺
Esi replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon explained that a minority of people will have Gerd after surgery. He said that for the vast majority of those people, medicine alleviates it. He said there is a small percentage, I forget whether it was one or 3%, for whom the medicine does not work, and they need revision surgery. -
I have to make a decision..
KristeyK replied to peacequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GO FOR THE SLEEVE!!! I made the mistake of not listening to my surgeon. Now, three years later after dealing with TOO many complications, he will be revising me to a sleeve. If I had known what I did three years ago, the Lap Band would have been the scarier route for me to go and I would have chosen the sleeve. -
I have to make a decision..
KristeyK replied to peacequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you happen to have a support group in your area you can attend? It's how I made the decision to go on ahead and get my band revised. (Hopefully the group you find, if you're able to, is as wonderful and supportive as the one I attend.) The people that are there have had EVERY version of WLS performed on them. I was leaning more toward going for the Roux-en-Y procedure, but after talking to others in the support group, along with my surgeon, I decided that the sleeve would be best in the long run. I wish you the best of luck!!! -
Hi, I've been lurking for a few months while I was trying to decide which surgery to have. I am scheduled for Lap Band surgery on May 23rd. I have my pre-op and final visit with the surgeon this Friday. I've been reading posts from people who are having very little weight loss or very slow, hungry, eating what they used to, disappointed, etc. etc. This really scares me. Is this the norm? I am worried that I made the wrong decision. I am 58 and don't have time to make a big mistake like this and go in for a revision.:cry I"ve read all the 'statistics' but I could use the real scoop on what the typical person can expect. Please can someone help?

Goodness why would your surgeon use a 50 French bougie, did you ask him why when you went to your follow up checkup.... Tannak had stomach scar tissue and her surgeon only used a 40 French bougie... Did he tell you why when you confronted him about it ??? because I would be pissed off too... Did he think maybe having a larger sleeve would make it easier to revise to RNY afterwards since he was pushing you towards RNY like my surgeon did until the last minute ??

8 days out of band to GBR surgery would still sometimes feel hungry
Tingting Wang posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am eight days out of the revision surgery but I would still sometimes feel hungry in the evening. Is this normal or not? I drink about 70g of premier protein shake each day. When I feel hungry, after drinking two sips of protein shake, it kind of relieve my hunger. I feel worried that I would still want to eat? How does everyone else feel? I have lost 10 pounds since surgery but did not lose any weight in 2 days. I don't know if I am doing something wrong. -
Wow!!!! That is amazing!!! So happy for you! Still battling my insurance on my revision but I have hired an advocacy group to help me. You are doing awesome!!!! Congrats! If I get a second chance with this, I hope to do as well as you ❤️

I'm sure after the surgery you should be up and walking as much as possible, but about how long until you can do something like jogging again? With my tummy tuck it was 6 weeks but I'm not sure whether a tummy tuck is a better or worse surgery than a revision...

Deciding the Band
DownsizingDonna replied to Isabel2point0's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had lapband in 2011. Did very well with it. Got to goal, but as others have said, had complications and had to have it removed. I revised to bypass at the end of March. My doctor is revising many of his band patients due to complications. It was a great tool when it wasn't causing problems, but it doesn't seem to be a long term surgery without having additional surgeries later on down the road. And this is not to bash the band, because I loved it when it wasn't causing problems, but more of an observation of what I've seen and experienced. Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App -
I am having revision from band to sleeve on Friday. My surgeon never mentioned anything about higher risks for a leak because of the band. According to their stats out of hundreds of revision procedures he's had one leak, which was small and healed on it's own. It's a major surgery, you never know what will happen I suppose. I also have to have my gallbladder out. So it's band removal, gallbladder removal, and sleeve. Unless he decides that needs to wait for a few months - which he said was also a possibility.

Do it this is me less than 6 months after my revision surgery . I self payed.

I had my band out in June 2014 and just had the sleeve done Nov. 12. I am losing but pretty slowly. That is fine but just wondered if those of you that are revisions, and female, about how many calories do you consume to continue losing and did you find that you have to add exercise too to keep losing. I plan to add exercise in when they release me to do so but feel like my metabolism is very slow from having the band prior. Any thoughts are welcome.

Who was a band to sleeve revision patient? I am having this done in 11 days and would appreciate it if you would share your experiences.

I'm set for September 11, 2023, so I'll be your buddy!!! I literally have no one here local to bounce things off of, I'm traveling 5 hours away for my surgery in Jacksonville so I'm really hoping for a smooth departure after surgery. But I'm also having the switch done for medical reasons and the weight loss is just a huge bonus to it. I had a nissen fundoplication in 2005 and it's coming undone and like 75% of the revisions from that end in gastric bypass and my doctor said with what he could see it was more like a 95% chance that I'd have to have it done so now I'm jumping through the hoops for it all.

I'm 55 And Had My Sleeve Done On August 8
Katie713 replied to CreateHealth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are indeed some people that get a leak weeks after surgery, and sometimes there is no easy way to tell why this happens. People who have band to sleeve revisions seem to have issues - perhaps because of tissue erosion from the band that changes the density of the stomach tissue and it has to heal properly. Others no doubt overwhelm the sleeve by eating too much or having carbonated beverages that expand the stomach before it's properly healed. The stages of eating are there for a reason...it makes sense to go err on the side of caution and go easy. -
Seconds of stomach pains...
LisaNLasVegas replied to fccm04's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I currently have a band - gettin a revision to the sleeve on Aug. 5. WIth me, those pains occur when something is getting stuck or a little too big of a bite - it was from my esophagus having spasms because of the stress of getting something down. WIth the band, it is/was a common pain. I'm not so sure if it is normal with the sleeve. I hope not, because one of the reasons I am getting a revision to the sleeve is because I don't want to be in pain every time I eat!! I hope it goes away soon. Try to eat slower - even smaller bites in the beginning. -
Pre-op, how much did you lose?
MKJohnson15 replied to MKJohnson15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ROBIN, My preop diet is liquids only. I have cheated several times with a hard boiled egg or a slice of turkey or chicken. Nothing like the cheats I used to do on diets. I am allowed to drink 5 low calorie, low fat, high protein shakes a day (my doc lets me choose out of 5 different brands.) Nothing is provided to me. I purchase them locally. Since I'm a revision patient, and need two surgeries, I've been on the diet for over a month now and I still have 13 days till surgery. I'm SO TIRED OF SHAKES. I swear. I only had 315 calories yesterday because I just could not force myself to drink another shake. I just couldn't. I can't wait for this part to be over! -
Adding my revision status to my bio
Katja posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Can someone help me add my revision from lapband to bypass on my bio. Also need to know how to add the additional ticker. Things have changed here a lot since 2007! I also have not found any chat rooms - did they get rid of them? Thanks for your help for this tech-challenged member. -
Band-to-sleevies, do you like the sleeve better?
Marisa replied to rcm1216's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's such great news! Thank you for the feedback! I'm relieved to know that my weight loss won't stop them from a revision. I know I need it, I have all the willpower in the world but when it comes to food it's been a life long struggle. It's definitely and addiction i've been fighting all my life. Aside from the past 6yrs. Let me tell you, i've never been so happy with my weight not consuming my entire life. Thanks again! -
Band-to-sleevies, do you like the sleeve better?
hermione53 replied to rcm1216's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello everyone, I'm five months out after 17 years of banding. I am SO GLAD I made the switch. I won't bore you with my band and band revision journey. I will focus on how amazing having a sleeve is. It's the surgery I hoped I was getting 17 years ago! With the sleeve, I can drink my protein in the morning. No waiting hours for the mucus cap to dissolve. I can actually drink a good bit of water. I do not throw up. I only did once and that's because I ate too fast. Like it was said above, I don't feel like I'm being choked with food sitting at my esophagus. I am able to eat healthy foods (meat, salad, veggies). My head is in a better place because I had a wonderful two months or so of having NO interest in food. It gave me a great start/ restart. To answer some questions from above, I had my band removed first and then was sleeved 7 weeks later. I did gain weight in that time, but it wasn't a ton- five pounds? I thought it would be more, but I hadn't been feeling much restriction for years so... At first I was upset about the two procedures and thought about going with RNY because my surgeon would have done that it one. But, I found the waiting time fine and I'm glad I didn't do so much at once. I have no pain in the port area. The band removal surgery was very easy. I was in and out of the hospital in four hours with very little pain. If you have questions, just ask! -
Alternative to surgery (due to cost and GERD fears)
Devi posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am once again considering how to fix my health without surgery. I am self pay and was planning to go to Mexico to Endobariatric. I’ve decided that the potential need for revision due to GERD is going to hold me back. I would not be able to afford a revision and my health insurance would not cover any part of it. Part of me feels let down by this, but I know GERD is no fun. I have it from medication and a handful of times before not medication related. I did notice that Dr. Alvarez mentions the sleeve surgery can potentially heal GERD in those that have it. I do find that interesting since so many end up with revisions. It makes me wonder if I would get lucky and not end up with it. That’s a big roll of the dice though as I would be stuck if I did. This forum has been incredibly helpful to me. Most people here are really kind, which is so nice to see these days. Perhaps if my insurance changes I will reconsider this option. I just wanted to share where I am with it and thank you all for sharing your stories and hopes and struggles and successes. -
Hey, long time no talk. I cannot decide what I want to do! I am not getting anywhere on my own. I am pretty much where I started when I first got the surgery the first time. It's just making me more depressed. I am trying and trying to lose it all on my own, but not having that restriction of feeling full I don't know when to stop. I never feel full like I did when I had the band. I was actually able to lose weight when I had the band, looking back, it really was helping me. It sucks that my infection i recieved when I had revision surgery made me lose my band I am SO scared to get it again because what if this time my body can't handle it and I die? :/ I'm so scared that what happened back in april where I had to get the revision surgery and get my band removed due to the abscess and then having high fever and high heart rate because of it. Being stuck in a hospital for a week with drain tubes and a feeding tube, what if that happened again? That was such a traumatic event So scared. I feel like I should do it tho. I am not getting anywhere with what I am doing now. The only way I lost like 10 pounds in October was because I wasn't really eating and you have to eat to lose weight. People are trying to back me out of it too. Why can't they just support me in what I think is best for me? The people that back me out of it are already skinny people and they seem to not understand that some people just can't lose it on their own. I am one of them. Decisions, decisions. *sigh*
