I'm also a band to sleeve, my surgery was 6/18. My dr has ok'd really soft foods 4 days after surgery. I didn't have a lot of scar tissue but my port was the issue and that incision site/area is still tender. I feel so much better now that the band is gone how about you?I feel so much better now that's gone too. I forgot what it felt like for food to actually hit my stomach. I can't believe you had a revision and your doctor has already ok'd soft foods. Only Soups that can go through a strainer and Protein drinks for me till next Tuesday!

Fight, fight, fight and fight

The latest, my GERD is getting better by my change in eating habits. Most days, I feel like a perpetual science experiment! I am afraid to eat. I don't want to have acid. My first visit to the nutritionalist is this week. I will have a clear plan at that point. If I am revised? It will occur in late March. Time will surely tell! acid reflux band to sleeve
stacielynntate replied to f1stborn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was banded in 2008 and got 24/7 acid reflux in 2011 after having my son. Only time no issue was when my band was empty. So got revision on 6/18 and a month out and no issues thank god. It's so nice to not have to deal with it. -
Fears with Revision Surgery
curlyRNYgirl999 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I wanted to share some of my fears with revision surgery. I am only two weeeks away from my operation and I am starting to get nervous about my life afterwards. I figured I could share my fears along with others and hopefully get some support as well. So here goes. These are my top fears about revision surgery: I wont lose any weight or hardly any. I wont be able to follow doctor orders and may cause myself complications. I will come out of surgery only to find they couldn't do it after all. I will not feel as much restriction as I did with the band. I will only lose weight for a short time like with the band, and then start gaining it all back I have more fears but these are the most prominent. I guess this whole journey with the band has just scarred me in some ways and made me doubt the power of surgery, even though I know from seeing my friends and family who have done it that it works. I guess I worry since I chose the band first, things wont be the same for me and it wont work as well. Share your fears with me. -
Fears with Revision Surgery
SoccerMomma73 replied to curlyRNYgirl999's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So, I'm the girl that woke up after band removal only to discover they couldn't do my revision to RNY....too much damage and inflammation, too risky to revise at that time. Six months later I got my RNY. The first few weeks in between totally sucked. I was an emotional mess. Mad at my body, mad at myself, mentally a mess. But time moved on and next month I'm 1 year post RNY. I have lost much slower than my bariatric surgery virgin counterparts. But I've lost and it has been so much easier than my band ever was. At 5'6 and 195', I'm about 40 pounds from a healthy weight. I can eat small amounts of almost anything. I never get stuck, slime, throw up. I never have pain. I do dump and still get random bouts of nausea from time to time. I no longer feel starved or deprived. It has been fabulous. You'll do fine and are normal to have fears . You'd be crazy not to!!!!! -
Revision after only a year of Gastric Sleeve
nidvia posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi, I had my gastric sleeve in March 22,21. My recovery was great and I didn’t had any pain or complications at all. I have lost like 60lbs so far. The problem is I have severe GERD. Since the day of my surgery I been taking PPI, now twice a day . Few days ago I had my one year visit with my surgeon and I he suggested that I should do a revision because taking the PPI long term is not ideal and he said that small percent of patients with gastric sleeve end up with severe GERD and I was one of them. That the only cure is the revision. I think is too soon but the regurgitation in the middle of the night are a nightmare to the point that I have to sleep sitting down. Have anyone one in here had a revision so soon? Sorry for my English is not my first language. -
Lose Weight And Keep It Off
Creekimp13 replied to Coach Hayward's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Though regain and difficulty with maintenance is very common....Few people who are struggling with regain stick around and post on this board. Most folks here are new to surgery and excited about possibilities, going through the process...high energy. You will see a few people talking about regain on the veteran's forum and revision boards. If you want statistical information about percentages of people who reach goal, regain, what is considered "a success" in the industry...talk to your bariatric surgeon. They are excellent, tough questions that you really should ask. -
I had the sleeve in 2013 and am in the process of looking to revise to a DS. I am extremely worried about the insurance portion. I know "everyone's insurance is different" I get it. Having been through the insurance stuff before I do realize it's case by case etc. I have Aetna and I did read the policy jacket and all that. I just want to know is there anyone on here that was approved for a second surgery and if so what is your story? I have had a little regain but been stalled over a year and a "twisted" sleeve it looks like cobblestones on top of each other. My BMI is 37. NO COMORBIDIES (sp?) Has anyone been approved in a similar situation?

Physiological Changes After WLS
summerset replied to IveGotThePower's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Very interesting, thank you. I'm a revision from band to MGB because of reflux issues and a migrating band and I have to say it is very different now! Wish I had done this way, way, WAY sooner! (I was afraid of having surgery again. Should have done it sooner but it's always easy to say that after everything went ok.) I wonder how it will feel after being 2, 3, 7 years out. Definitely worth a quote. -
Insurance Approval For Revision
Nurse Jen replied to Myskinnydreams0605's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I went to my first seminar in May 2012, I was done with the process and approved by my doc and insurance by July but had to put off surgery due to work. I had my surgery September 25, I starred at 364lbs and I am down to 300. I lost 40lbs before surgery and have lost 24 after. Mine was not a revision, I havent had any other weight loss surgery besides the bypass. I am sure you will do great, just stick to the diet and try not to get upset if something makes you sick.....I got upset the first time because I was doing everything right, my doc was awesome though telling me how our body is adjusting and that it might not like something right away but to try again later. -
Insurance Approval For Revision
Vicki Loichinger replied to Myskinnydreams0605's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I too had anthem BCBS and I was approved on Friday. The approval process took about three weeks and they did ask for some more paperwork in the middle. But really I think it went very well. And if all the info from all my docs had been sent in the first time it would have been even faster. So hopefully tomorrow I will get a surgery date I have had my lap band for seven years and revising to the RNY. I have no horror stories about my lap band it just didn't help me lose all the weight I needed and even when losing weight the diabetes and asthma did not improve. I am kinda putting all my eggs in the RNY basket and hoping I am one of the 80% that the RNY drastically changes the diabetes. Wishing you the very best. -

what are the most common reasons people get their band removed?
Lady VS replied to BQT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went in thinking I'd be banded for life. That was my plan. However, I have been nauseated and vomiting off and on throughout the year which has made my band slip. Even though I have no saline for the past 8 months, I'm still nauseous. I'm not as big as I was when I was first banded. I don't have acid reflux, my esophagus is fine, however, last year, it was slightly swollen. I am currently prepping my body for this revision surgery I'm having next week. what are the most common reasons people get their band removed?
JRT Mom replied to BQT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorrynametaken, I could have written your post. My story is exactly the same. Mine is also 10 years old, and even with no fill in it I'm struggling to get food down. The barium swallow doesn't show any problems with dilation or slippage, but I still slime and vomit every other meal. I thought it was going to last a lifetime but it's so stressful being hungry but dreading that next meal, and my surgeon thinks the stoma will eventually totally close off so even water can't pass, so I'm having it removed with a revision to a RNY. I know I'll never eat an average size meal again but I'm OK with that as long as I can do so without dread! -
Nervous to go under the knife AGAIN
ElleJ replied to smellslikecoffee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So many of us feel the same way. I was banded in 2006 and was scheduled for a revision to the sleeve in May 2016. I woke up bandless and sleeveless due to adhesions. I have a new surgeon who will be doing my sleeve on Oct 2016. I'm so very scared but more scared not to... It's normal...ask as many questions about HIS mortality rate, research online what you can about him and most importantly compliance is key... I told myself the same things I'm saying to you All the best! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Thinking about going from Band to Sleeve....
piercedqt78 replied to loohoo63's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my band for almost 8 years. (just 2 months shy) and I did the yo-yo weight loss all 8 years. I never lost more than 50% of my excess weight, and it always came right back on, no matter what I did. I started having issues keeping anything down last Feb (2013) and by the end of March, I had been in the ER 4 times with uncontrolled vomiting. (still didn't lose any weight) I had an endoscope, and a stomach emptying test, nothing abnormal other than reflux in either test. I was also checked for spasms in my esophagus, all normal. I had my band placed in Chicago, and had moved to Florida in the mean time, so I didn't have a band doctor. I knew someone that had just been sleeved, and she LOVED her bariatric surgeon, so I set up a consult with him on the suggesting of my GI doc. Because I was having issues, they waived their program fee and agreed to see me, knowing my band would most likely have to be removed. He did a barium swallow, and saw instantly that my stomach had prolapsed into my band, and the band would have to be removed. This was already the last part of April. The surgeon submitted to my Insurance and they were fine with the sleeve surgery, but didn't want to cover the band removal. How stupid is that???? He called them when they received the reply from the insurance, and told them if they didn't approve the band removal, he would keep me in the hospital on IV fluids and bed rest until they got their head out of their asses and approved me. I was approved within 48 hours, and had my band removed, and the sleeve done on May 8th last year. I was at goal before Thanksgiving. I'm now 115 pounds, and a size 4/6. I have managed to actually get under my original goal. When I get the sleeve I said I would like to be in single digit sizes, for the first time since highschool, I surpassed that goal, and then I wanted to be 135 pounds (that would put me in the middle of the "healthy" bmi scale) now I am borderline underweight. I don't regret the revision for one single moment, and I made him swear to me that he would do my sleeve if at all possible at the same time, and if not in the same surgery then as soon as I was healed I would be sleeved, the surgeon agreed, and the rest as they say is history. I can't tell you how very happy I am. -
Awaiting approval - BCBS. Feeling discouraged.
TristanNicole replied to gebbiabn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Unfortunately I've also read alot of the same, people being approved for removal but not for revision to sleeve or bypass. But as i also have read you can't give up, if you are denied it sounds like you have a very supportive surgeons office who will be able to help you appeal and possibly even do a peer to peer review. Stay positive though, you never know, they could call you with an approval! -
I depend upon the band to take away ALL my hunger and cravings, mentally, and to control my portion sizes which I happy to say it does........I don't count calories, have not for over 2 years now...... just make wise food choices with what little I am able to eat.... I am unable to stick with any plan and eat a measured amount of food....I need the band to do that for me.....and it does.... If I were to get a un-fill, it would all be a disaster for me....I depend upon the band for everything....that's why I had the surgery in the first place, was unable to loose weight without it no matter what diet I tried.... Mosts posts you read about people "Failing" and gaining their weight back can usually be linked to some medical issue where they needed a un-fill or band revision....OR they never where in the Green Zone in the first place and depended upon their own selves and discipline for the weight loss.... But with the bands adjusted as it is...it would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to gain any weight back...I know, I have put it to the test and it was a no-go...could not over eat....

Deciding whether to schedule a date or not
LilMissDiva Irene replied to raven_magnolia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi blossom, welcome to the forum - and most of all, welcome to the rest of your life! You know, it actually took me over a year to finally come to the realization that my band failed me miserably and I needed something more permanent and not so friendly. I knew about the surgery for years now, but not before being banded. Oh how I wish I had!! Oh well it was not in the cards. Well, finally I made that decision all the while gaining all my weight back and watching so many being successful with the sleeve. Dr. Aceves did my revision, and you will absolutely LOVE HIM and HIS STAFF!!! Only call if you are 110% sure though, and only then. It's no walk in the park, but worth every scrape you get from it. NIna, who is such a blessing, will help you every step of the way. She's totally great! Hugs to you!!! -

The band is awful. I'm revising to VSG for all the reasons everyone stated. I sure hope it's as amazing as it sounds. Not hungry, full after a few bites, low risk of complications.. that plus my 2 hr workouts and I'm gonna be healthy in no time! can't wait. SIGN ME UP  -
Will a Sleeve Revision Work for Me? How does "full" feel with VSG?
apricotsmommy replied to VSG Tommy B's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I never had a band slip or erosion but had a combination of reflux and food intolerances that were very disruptive to life. One advice I would give is make sure whoever does your revision has done many procedures and find a population of revision patients (virtual or real life) for feedback and support. Lots of folks say that we revisions still lose well but not as much as virgin sleevers. When I compare weight lost to others sleeved around the same time though, I'm pretty close to average. Just short of 45 lbs. in 3 months. I don't have a soft stop like I did with the band. Mine was a sniffle. But I can tell what almost full feels like pretty easily now. The first few weeks of solid foods I had to measure because I couldn't feel it. Eating too much is uncomfortable but I wouldn't call it painful. Way too much I'm guessing would hurt but I haven't tried. I can eat nearly anything at this point. No more obsession with texture or days where not even tea or Water went down. I haven't tried milk, sugary or fatty foods yet except a bite/taste. There's no "catch point" like I had with the band. This means when you take too big a bite or first start taking pills again you might find out what too big means. For me it was sliming and foaming a bit. That part was the same as the band and is basically gone for me. I was afraid to drink for several weeks after surgery because of all of the band issues. For me it turned out to be all in my head and not reality at all. I don't really feel much hunger at all, not like the band where my stomach was growling and I couldn't do anything about it. But I do find it harder to stay on top of eating and fluids more than with the band. But I also had the band for six years so I just might not be remembering. Also I think the postop diet was easier to bear the second time around. I think because I knew it was temporary. Feel free to PM me if I missed a question. -
I couldn't imagine living in the spot light and being open about my weight struggles and surgeries. She's very brave to continue to let people into her daily life and struggle but I think unfortunately people use her as an example of why wls is a waste. I feel bad that she is still struggling but I never understood why she went with the lap band. I think she's a spokes person for them. If I was her I would of revised to a DS and not the lap band. It's sad that she's only managed to lose 30 pounds in the year that she's had it in :/
