Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?
TrueNorth1 replied to Lanie Hardy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the band, not the sleeve, but also had the revision due to reflux and heartburn. It is like night and day. I can lie flat now! I couldn't do that for so long! I can have liquid or something to eat and lie on my couch....couldn't do that without food or liquid coming up. I would throw up at least twice a day and I was always woken up at night to have to get the reflux out of my system. I now sleep through he night! And have zero pain. I can have tomato soup and tomato sauce! Take away the weight loss that comes from the bypass, the revision was over the top worth it to not feel pain and have to throw up all the time. You will be so happy! -
Banded 10 Years Ago..... considering revision surgery
honeyjasmine replied to Skip111178's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Have you made any decisions on what you're going to do yet? Like you I had a lapband in 2010, I am having revision surgery to a bypass in January....I am heavier now than I was before I even got my band. 😬 I had a consultation with my surgeon - he said he doesn't recommend sleeve revisions from a lapband, so that is why we went with the bypass. The lapband and bypass work in different ways, so you won't necessarily be in the same boat 10 years down the line....but I absolutely understand your worries. As for recommendations, I'm having mine done with Healthier Weight. The surgeon (Rishi Singhal) who specializes in revision surgery is based in Birmingham so I'm having to travel up there from London but I'm happy with his experience and level of expertise in revision surgery. I found out about him after seeing him on the news having done a very large ladies bypass - BBC Midlands Today interview Rishi Singhal about weight loss surgery and NHS funding - YouTube Good luck with whatever you decide! -
Anyone else having Tummy tuck, breast lift/Aug in January?
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to Kris77's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I wouldn't worry about pain. It's pretty extensive surgery (12 1/2 hrs!) so of course there is pain. But, there are plenty of drugs available to control pain! I only took one dose of narcotics immediately after I came home from the hospital. I then took gabapentin and celebrex around the clock for the next 2 weeks and then just when I felt I needed it. I did get a refill on the gabapentin because I used to get nerve pain at night. If I had felt the need and the pain was bad enough I wouldn't have hesitated to take something stronger. The healing on the lower body lift has been perfect and the scar is looking pretty good. The incisions on both my arms opened up over my biceps. The right was pretty small and healed nicely after a little wound care. The left was pretty big and is almost healed but will need a scar revision in the future. It's not uncommon for that to happen when you think about how tight they pull your skin. He removed 9 inches of skin from my left arm! It is half the size it used to be! I measured 73 inches of incision from my LBL and brachioplasty! My brachioplasty was considered "extended" too. The scar goes from the lower edge of my boob to midway between my elbow and wrist. There are a lot of sutures involved and it's when your body spits out sutures that didn't dissolve that can cause the incision to open. I'm not sure how you would use crutches after that surgery. I guess you would have to discuss it with your doctor. The armpit scars actually healed the quickest. I have my next appointment in Feb. I'll be 6 months out from this surgery and we will discuss and plan my next surgery-breast lift and back lift. However, I just had 2 biopsies in my left breast (benign) so he is not sure he will do my boobs yet. Even though there is pain involved and long term wound care and scars...I'd do it all over again. I love my results! It was worth every dollar I spent. I did not use insurance. -
Worried that doctor made my pouch too big?
Coexister replied to Coexister's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had revision due to bad reflux that was causing damage to my vocal chords but I also never reached my goal weight with the sleeve. I am hoping to reach 145 with this revision. I am currently at 154 and seem to be holding steady and am hoping for another drop. ; ) I was about 173 pre-surgery before the pre-op diet. I am now eating regular foods and am now realizing that there is a restriction and that if I do eat too much, it hurts really bad. I have had a few episodes with dumping however my body doesn't throw things up. I think it's because of the hiatal hernia repair with mesh that keeps foods from coming up. I wish I could throw up as it would be easier and provide relief at times but my body was always one that to hold things down and just make me suffer. So instead, I get the sweats and the pains and just suffer for a period of time. I am pretty much noticing that there is no indication of "about full" and that I am going to have to measure stuff and just stop before reaching the point the of no return. It seems to be all or nothing with this pouch. Once it realizes it is full, it's too late and I have overdone it. I probably need to learn to slow down even more and see if that works but I don't seem to get a signal to the brain that I am full? Maybe, I just never feel hungry and am just eating because I know I need too and so there is no signal because the head doesn't think it is hungry? I guess I need to take stock of what my body is feeling more and see where it goes. I am so terrified of drinking because it goes down so easy and I am always afraid that I am drinking too fast as being told that I could stretch my pouch by drinking to fast. So with that I am constantly trying to slow down my drinking and making sure I don't gulp down water. My bowels are definitely acting different and I am hoping they level out at some point and they get easier as well as I am currently living on Miralax twice daily to keep things smooth, LOL. This is definitely a different journey then the sleeve. Seems the sleeve was easier? -
The changes we don't talk about
BayougirlMrsS replied to Ylime's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Anyone else have a reverse body image before WLS? I look in the mirror and didn't see the 232lb person. I saw "normal".... It wasn't until I didn't recognize myself in a picture that I really saw what I looked like.... I was shocked and disgusted. Then as the years went by, looking in the mirror, it's become the other where I don't see the thin size 0 person.... The mind is a crazy thing for sure. I hold up jeans in a size 0 and think.... OMG there is no way, but they do. I have a hard time parting with things that are too big. Just yesterday I brought 5 shirts and 2 skirts to the tailor. I'm obsessed with my boobs now. After years and years of being an H cup, they look so small as a FF-G.... I know that they are still bigger than most, but to me they look tiny...... ugh.. Drinking has become a 1 drink a day thing. I just challenged myself to see how long I could go if I really tried..... 23 days. Had one Sunday night and it knocked my D!ck in the dirt..... Thank the dear Lord in Heaven I don't really like shopping. I hate going into a shop and picking things out.... I'm terrible at it. I also hate getting undressed and dressed over and over. I moved to another state where no one knew the size 20 me. No one knew my past, I knew no one and it was so liberating...... This is also how I managed to have revision SX without telling anyone... that in itself has been awesome. Especially this time around..... (raises a hand and admits) it wasn't hard work at all. -
I’m scheduled for revision surgery on December 8. I’ve had two failed bands and a sleeve. Going for bypass. I’m nervous and excited.

I'm sorry to hear. You trusted them and they aren't there for you. That just sucks. I didnt tell a soul except for 1 girlfriend who we had the lapband together. She may also be doing the revision so it kind of worked. My clinic would not do surgery unless I had a witness signing my documents and someone picking me up after surgery. So I had to tell 1 person. Otherwise, I would say nothing. People are funny. I didn't want any questions or sabotage. I'm on this journey with all of you!!! We are here for you EMT!! -

Congrats !!! The recovery time was better I thought with the revision. The pain was worse though after surgery. Glad you are doing well and getting all your protein needs met. -
Withdrawal symptoms from antidepressants 6 weeks PO
ScrubRN posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Prior to surgery my anxiety and depression were very well controlled by Zoloft and Lamictal. I was doing great until about a week ago when I started experiencing withdrawal type symptoms like dizziness, visual issues, and anxiety. I have been reading articles about bioavailability of meds post RNY. I’m 6 wks post op from revision to RNY. My doc wants me to try liquid Zoloft. Anybody have any experience with this? I’m scared and frustrated I was not warned of this possibly happening after surgery. -
Surgery postponed due to Covid
Horseshowmom replied to shannels's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have met all of your insurance pre-op requirements can you check with other surgeons who may still be performing surgeries? I totally understand the out of pocket max thing. We took a more expensive bi-weekly premium plan this year to get the lower out of pocket max, but I still paid 5500 out of pocket, and I wouldn’t want to do it again for the same procedure unless it was a revision etc. Right now my surgeon is still performing surgeries, at least as of last week, but I’m in Georgia, but I would be one that definitely would be calling around all my neighboring states programs and seeing if there was a surgeon who could get me in. They know it’s expensive, so I’d tell any one of them who would listen about your situation and see if they could get you in. My center had a 4 week fast track program, and that was for people just starting the journey, so I bet there is some place that could get you in!! Good luck!!!!! -
Taking the meds that your Dr is giving you is what you can do now. I didn't have your surgery but had the Bypass-long time acid reflux and then stage 3 gerd made that the only possibility. That long term problem requires a change in foods along with the meds to get it managed. There are lists of foods and water that can help with that (alkaline levels are most important) and it requires some research. Your Dr won't give it much mind for now as long as it's not getting worse. You are right to be concerned but give it time. It can take at least 6 months of change of diet, exercise and weight loss to bring down the level. I'm sorry to say you will have to modify foods that you used to eat and always be mindful of anything that you can react poorly to. Some people even respond to lactose and dairy badly for acid reflux and gerd. It wont go away just with the weight loss and the surgery revision. Ask your Dr if they have suggestions for your diet and what foods to eat. As long as you do this, it won't get to Barret's Syndrome and worse. That is really the good news to this. It can be better by the summer but you will always have to watch the foods you eat after. Great job on keeping the weight loss despite huge challenges! Feel better.

Had my revision on 11/19 and it only been 8 days but still having a hard time sitting up for long periods of time. I have to lay down at some points during the day. I'm able to get my protein in since I have it in everything I eat and drink. So have to say it's not that bad now that the swelling in my stomach has gone down. Revision to a gastric bypass surgery -
Google "medicare requirements for bariatric surgery" you can find lots of info. It paid for mine, and it was a revision from a lap band to RNY. The first office I visited told me incorrectly that Medicare WOULDN'T pay for a revision, so I actually dropped my plan to do it until the lap band slipped and had to come out anyway. I went to a different surgeon whose office said they WOULD pay for it, and long as I met the criteria, and between the Medicare and my supplemental insurance, all I had to pay for was the psych consult and the dietician! I was sweating bullets until all the bills came that I would be stuck since Medicare doesn't do preapprovals-they either pay it or they don't...but they came through.

Worried that doctor made my pouch too big?
Tracyringo replied to Coexister's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Are you revising because of reflux, weight gain, or both? Not having restriction wont keep you from losing weight if that is what you are worried about. In fact I lost 12 lbs the first month after revision and weighed 180 at the time. In 2017 I weighed 296 the day of VSG surgery and only lost 14 lbs. You wont overeat because you will get sick and if you dump that is just as bad. ( at least it is for me lol ) I get violently ill and can lasts a few hours. Once it lasted 4 hours. Good luck to you ! -

I'm worried about the "restriction". A lot of VSG revision patients have said the same thing. They do not feel any restriction. Which goes to show, the mental part of this is so hard. Good for you. Keep up the hard, but good work. -

Revision date set for December 15th
Sunniblue20 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi all! I’m new here. I finally got my surgery date and I’m very excited. I had rny in 2002 lost 175lbs and then after I had my daughter gained it all back in 10years. My surgeon says my pouch is fine but the opening to my intestines is big so good just flows through. I’m ready to get this done so I can be active and healthy. -

I lost the 20 in about 10 weeks and it was actually 22 lbs. I now bounce around 5 lbs but am having no problems keeping it in that range. With VSG I wasnt able to get under 164.8 and struggled to stay under 170. I am not having that problem with this revision, but am missing the restriction from the VSG.
