If you can't take ibuprofen for menstrual cramps and Tylenol doesn't work what else can we take? I am 2 months post-op of gastric bypass. Called Dr office but nurse never called back yet... I'm using heating pad but cramps seem more intense than usual.

Alex Brecher mentions BariatricPal in this news article
Born in Missouri posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
August 27, 2018: The gastric bypass procedure reduces the size of a patient’s stomach by more than 90 percent. This procedure affects people physically and emotionally, said Alex Brecher, who launched the online community Bariatric Pal (bariatricpal.com) after his own lap band surgery in 2003. The website has message boards, a store that sells a wide variety of products for men and women who have had weight loss surgery, and even helps arrange less expensive surgeries in Tijuana, Mexico, for patients whose insurance won’t cover the procedures. http://www.dailypress.com/news/dp-fea-bolt-bariatric-20180802-story.html# Brecher, who traded in his lap band for bariatric surgery earlier this year, said the dramatic weight loss can also bring about some unexpected emotional issues. “Some people aren’t ready to look in the mirror and see something other than an overweight person,” Brecher said. “They see that different face looking back, and a lot of times they realize they still have to deal with the emotional things that got them to being overweight to begin with. When you lose weight and you’re not able to lean on food for emotional support, it can bring the other stuff to the surface.” -

Dumping. malabsorption. after bypass surgery
Doo Lally posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, thanks for taking a look at my post. I've been doing a lot of research on my own and I still have questions. Would you be willing to share about your experience with malabsorption. have you had weakness or fatigue from having to take pills rather than getting nutrients from food? did your general health remain good? Was there any problems continuing any prescription meds? Any dental problems from lack of suficient vitamins? I have read about dumping syndrome, it sounds awful, and I wonder is there anyone who has not experienced it? -
Interesting read thought would share. https://www.generalsurgerynews.com/The-Great-Debates/Article/03-18/Gastric-Bypass-or-Sleeve-Gastrectomy-/47027

Hi my name is Austin, I am 21 yrs old and my surgery is set for Jan. 5th. When I entered into the process I clocked in at 428 lbs with a bmi of 58,I really let myself go, which my surgeon won't allow anyone over 60bmi to have the surgery... it wasn't until I hit 400 lbs that I ever really let it sink in that I was to far gone. You see I always convinced myself that oh I'm young I can loose weight if I really tried. But after several, upwards to 12 different diet and exercise programs, slimfast, nutrisystem, Atkins, south beach, etc. I finally broke down, and admitted defeat until my doctor uttered his best advice. Gastric Bypass. I went for my seminar and it opened my eyes to the possibility that I won't die young that I could live a long happy life. I changed the way I looked at food and I got down to the real root of my eating problem and just stopped making excuses and got off my fat buttnd now I'm around 410 and less than 2weeks away from my liquid diet. I would love to find someone who is close to my surgery date to be friends, mentors, a confidant if you will and together we can support each other to conquer and keep each other strong through what will ultimately change out lives for the better

Hi all! This site was mentioned at my Lap band support meeting...great info! Well, I am currently waiting for final insurance approval! ( Completed the nutrition consult and psych eval ). I am beyond excited but nervous too. I have been fighting my weight all my life and have just had enough. I am finally able to say " I need some help" and the lap band will be that extra tool I need. I have been researching this for 2 years. ( I had looked at Gastric Bypass as 2 freidns had it but don't like the idea of "messing up the plumbing".) I am thankful to have found a site where I can find the support I need to help me thru this journey! I can't wait to be a LOSER!! lol Michelle

Since I'm basically a newbie here I'm just trying to wrap my head around all the emotions, frustrations and happiness. I guess it would be nice to be able to talk to others that have been down this path. Voice concerns and questions... What to potentially expect. Etc...

I am so sorry to hear all that trouble, me too, I went to San Antonio Texas and they drove us 3 hours down to Mexico, I got Staph a month later, then my tubing poped almost through my skin and then no one here in Oregon will see me , no matter where else I went and then I have a revision in October and now the bottom incision has poped open and drains fluids and still no surgeon will see me, I don't know what I am going to do now. The Dr. who did it has moved and would barely answer me this time. So see? there are maNY others out here with you . I sure am sorry for you too.

3 months post op and everything I swallow makes me feel like I have heart burn.
Sunnyway replied to Autumnrayne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
RNY Gastric Bypass is usually the best surgical technique for people who have heartburn or GERD. It usually eliminates those issues and type II diabetes. Are you drinking or eating too quickly? Try slowing down to sips or tiny bites well chewed. -
My band is empty for the first time in 6 years!
asherje replied to wordygirl74's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine was unfilled for the umpthteen time due to complications 4month prior to surgery, was nice to have most the pain gone but I did gain back another 30lbs. But my revision was Dec 10th & I feel so much better! -
So I'm hoping to hear from anyone with a high BMI that got the sleeve and had a lot of success. My current BMI is 63. My goal weight is 200 pounds, which means I need to lose 190 pounds. For various reasons I chose the sleeve over the bypass, and I know bypass patients lose more than sleeve patients do. BUT...I have no issues following the diet, and once I lose some weight I will start working out again (I did keto and lost almost 100 pounds over 7 months, but then it just started creeping back up and no matter how much I restricted my carbs and worked out, I couldn't keep the weight down and I got frustrated and quit), but I worry that I won't be able to hit my goal even if I stick to the diet and work out. I have MS, so strengthening my muscles and losing the weight is a must to keep my mobility and reduce the pain. I also desperately want to get rid of my diabetes and high blood pressure. And I'm hoping losing the weight will help my asthma a little. BUT... is this possible with the sleeve? I'm so excited about the surgery, but is it really possible to lose that kind of weight with the sleeve? Has ANYONE on here done it, or even come close? This just has to work. I wasn't always overweight. I used to be a size 6, but when I had my son back in 98, my PCOS jump started and I put on close to 100 pounds and only lost maybe 25. No matter what i did, I couldn't lose it. Then I had my daughter and gained close to the same amount, and was never able to lose any of it. Then I did keto, succeeded for a while, then it failed and I gave up. And now here I am. Do I have any hope at all of hitting my goal weight?

Sleep Apnea Study re-test
kbarbs replied to n2animals's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hope it works out for you. I have sleep apnea but my wouldn't pay for any of it! In Canada only the gastric bypass is covered. Where do you live? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I was weighing up the choice between a revision to a bypass or doing nothing - I definitely wouldn't be looking at going against my surgeon's advice. My problem ( and my husbands) is that I still have this belief that I "should"be able to do it on my own.

I'm a band to bypass revision myself. Banded in 2011... revised this past March. BEST.CHOICE.EVER. The information on the operation is skewed by old data from older "versions" of the surgery. As medical technology has advanced... this procedure has become exponentially more safe.

Possible switch to bypass because of GERD.
GAWildKat replied to shy1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hiatal hernia but not gerd and had bypass, only had 100lbs to lose. I have never had any issues postop with losing too much. I'm just not tight on the rules either, I eat a little outside the limits to ensure I don't drop too much. But I will say in the 1st yr that I lost eveything in 8 months. No joke. I did have a small of regain but it's life. I'm not unhappy with it. Just take a deep breath and relax. You can do this. If someone like me with cerebral palsy and was overweight can go through bypass and do it all so can you. Have some faith in yourself. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk -
The biggest reason why I'm glad I got a band rather than RNY
Dragonwillow replied to vluckey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hmm, my reasons. Well my mother had a type of bypass surgery...lost a ton of weight, got all types of medical issues and regained all her weight, She was in the 300's at least when she passed in her early 50's. As long as I can recall, I've never seen my mom make good food choices....some of the bad habits I myself picked up. Just recently I had my 6 month blood work done. Some of my Vitamins were seriously low and are being addressed. I wonder, if I had RNY would I even have made it to 6 months without having to be hospitalized or worse. If my Vitamin D dropped to 14 when it should be somewhere areound 32-100 with no malabsorbtion issues, what would it have been with. My Iron is also low along with B1. It just makes me thankful I chose the right surgery for me. -
Here are some of my comments. Nothing here shows anything about your individual insurance company. I explained how SOME insurance co's work and repeatedly suggested you read your own policy and verify for yourself. >>Then perhaps a six month medically supervised diet. Some have to try to lose weight, others MUST lose a certain amount of weight such as 5% of your excess weight.<< >>Not every insurance company covers banding, some will only pay for bypass (for example). Some will only pay for banding up to a certain BMI and then if you are larger than their stated BMI they won't pay for anything other than bypass.<< >>If your policy requires a six month medically supervised diet ...<< >>Some insurance co's are amazingly stupid and anything over a BMI of 50 they will only pay for bypass ...<< >>... but that's what they do often times ...<< Nope, nothing in there about blaming BC/BS of CA for anything. Just how SOME ins co's do things.

Hi to all, Yes, God is awesome. This is my story. I live in New-Brunswick, Canada and just 4 months ago, the government was not paying for the lap band surgery put the other gastric bypass were. I had to pay 1,600.00 and the government would of paid the same amount. Plus I would of had to go to Moncton in orther to have the surgery and Moncton is 2:30 from here. So it would of mean miss my work (hard to do, I'm a ressource teacher), I didn't have the money first of all for the surgery and even to pay the gaz to go. I went to my regular appointment at the diabetes clinic and guess what? A new Dr. was coming to Bathurst which is 10 minutes from my place and the government decided to pay entirely for the surgery. I went to see Dr. Savoie the new surgeon and he gave me his OK. He said I would be the perfect candidate for the lap band surgery. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I can really see God's hand on that. clempier New-Brunswick Canada

My girlfriend is trying to get lap-band surgery. My insurance company, PHCS is requiring "the dread-ed 6 month diet". I am wondering if there is anyway out of this? She is ~250lbs, 5'8", and BMI ~39. She has other medical issues that is causing problems with this is the main problem. She has severe Fibromyalgia to the point that she is sometimes to tired or hurting to bad to get up and go to the bathroom and just holds it. She is pretty much bedridden now due to both pain and fatigue. Because of the fatigue and pain it is absolute hell for her to get up to go to doctors appointments and that is generally the only thing she leaves the house for. She misses those appointments often as well due to this. She has other comorbid issues to go with her 39BMI. Moderate sleep apnea, arthitus in her feet, body pain, and is teetering on diabetes. From what I understand of this 6mo diet, you have to see a nutritionist once a month every month and a physciain every 3 months. I and she are pretty skeptical that she can make these appointments regularly and would atleast miss one or two at which point the 6mo supervised diet is basically restarted ending up with her never getting this surgery. I and she believe that if she were to lose weight she would gain back much of the energy that she has lost over the past 4 years since she began symptoms of fibro, alleviate some of the pain, as well as her self esteem which has suffered terribly. I am trying to search for any cases where an insurance company requires a 6 month medically supervised diet and someone was able to bypass it and any details about such cases. If anyone knows of anything like this or has any advice please reply.

Yeah, I decided on the sleeve because it seemed like the safest, most effective option. I really liked not having the malabsorption part of the surgery that you have with gastric bypass.

Anyone 60yrs. or over and have all comorbidities
TinDE replied to ebonymc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 59 and having a bypass in 3 weeks. I just have HTN and apparently now I have sleep apnea, but there is a strong family history of diabetes and heart problems. I do have issues with reflux and Barrett's esophagus so that's why I'm getting the bypass. -
