    Pureed /Soft food Ideas

I've been trying to puree tuna with some yogurt instead of mayo and I think it's just too much for me right now. (three weeks post op) But I I've definitely taken the advice about blended thick soups so they are thinner and cottage cheese. I also had some cream of tomato soup and blended some cottage cheese into it and it enhanced the flavour of both. I used to love cottage cheese when I lived in the US, but it doesn't have the same texture as the UK so I didn't like it anymore. Now, it's a godsend. Funny how life works. I'm really struggling with purees so I'm going to stay on liquids for an extra week.

    Supplements??

Hello! I am 4 weeks post-op, and I am curious about what type of supplements people take - such as fiber, calcium, or any others you want to share. Thank you!

    Getting Back on Track

So I’ve never been a big fan of the gym. I literally hate going. But, I love taking nice long walks so once the weather breaks I will be walking daily. I usually do a mile every day at lunch at work and then 3-4 miles after work 2-3 days a week!

Not Losing - Please Tell Me There Is Hope

Sorry, one more point I should have made above: I'm not a fan of calorie counting for the very reason you're struggling. You seem to be stating: "I'm only eating 700 calories a day, why am I not losing?" As I mentioned, we all are horrible at knowing how many calories we're really consuming. The issue is actually even bigger than that. Remember, you have to eat less than you burn to lose weight. Since you most likely are overestimating your intake (we all do it), that's an obvious issue. The EVEN BIGGER ISSUE is that you only have one side of the equation. You have a rough idea of intake (even if you measure poorly), but actually have no idea whatsoever know how many calories you really burn per day. There is no reliable way to measure that unless you have a rather expensive metabolic test done. Sure, there are online calculators, but these are only good at determining rough amounts and they can be off by hundreds of calories per day. I won't lie. As a person of small stature, you have it a lot harder than most because the margins for error will be smaller. What I mean is that we know you personally need fewer calories per day just based on your height. Beyond that, it also means the number of calories you have to "play with" are also a lot less than a taller person would have. Let's look at a couple of examples to illustrate this point: Person A needs 2500 calories to maintain their current weight. This means they can cut their calories down to 1000 and all other things being equal, they can in theory lose ~3 pounds of fat a week. Person B only needs 1200 calories to maintain their current weight. They obviously don't have the "room" to cut by 1500 calories a day, and even 1000 is unrealistic, so they'd have to reduce by 500 at most, taking them to around 700 calories a day. This person will only lose about a pound of fat a week, even though they are eating less calories per week than person A. It seems unfair, but it is what it is. Person B is going to have a harder time being compliant with dieting (since they have to eat so little food), and is also going to lose a lot slower. Guess which one you are?
  6. Hey y’all! I was sleeved on 04/28 so I’m one week out, however, I’ve been having some dark brown discharge (not super heavy) but it started 2-3 days post op. I’m wondering if it’s surgery related which would be weird right ? But I had my period 4/19 so wondering if it’s just delayed discharge from that. Pretty much wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

    January 2025 Surgery Buddies!

I had mine 2 weeks ago tomorrow. Trying to adjust in a world that throws TV adverts for food at you non stop.
  8. Hi lovelies, I hope you’re all doing well? You were all so supportive with the question I asked a few weeks ago that I thought I would come here and see if you have any advice for me now! As of tomorrow I am eight weeks out from the gastric bypass procedure. I have lost quite a bit of weight (2 stone) which I’m absolutely delighted about (and people are starting to notice which has been a really good feeling). However, I must have THE most stubborn self sabotaging streak because I have started to drink alcohol again (and not just on special occasions) as well as not following the food rules and not exercising. I can’t understand why I’m being like this because my family are so happy that I’ve done this and have been so supportive, and my friends (even though they don’t know about the operation are really starting to notice) so WHY am I doing this to myself? I just wondered if you guys knew of a reason I may have hit the wall so early (I really do not want to fail) and especially if you have any advice, book recommendations apps or anything that I might be able to do to help me get back on track and find my way again. Really appreciated as always thank you xx

    Travel

Hi, new here... I am in the final evaluations pre gastric sleeve... I have a paid journey to Disney June 1- june 6... 4-5 weeks post op is too soon for that? I'm 39, no diabetes or HTN... I'm traveling with my 5 yr old son, so I don't think I will use any big or dangerous roller coaster... I am from Puerto Rico
  11. Congratulations on your new you! My RNY surgery was August 12, 2021. My biggest fear before WLS was maintenance. I kept loosing until 2yrs, 3mo. There were a number of stalls, a couple of gains, but maintenance isn’t that bad. The stats are in the file on here, but I lost 75lbs before surgery, and 75lbs after. My tops are the same size as when I was 5’7” and 140lbs at age 20 so I think I’m there (I’ve aged and shrunk, and acquired a load of skin since then. It all hangs around my belly apron and above my knees.) I’m 56yrs old and love being active and staying active is my passion. The trick is to find activities you love, then let yourself obsess over them! The secret to my maintenance is smell. I have wicked allergies and noticed I loose weight easily when I can’t smell anything. So, I “forget” to take my nasal spray, or wear a mask with peppermint scent in it. Viola, 5-10 lbs falls off in a week. Thankfully, I also dump on sugar so I don’t need to do the smell trick often :)

    Extreme conspitation during LRD

I had a very similar experience about a week to 10 days post sleeve surgery! It was awful, never had anything like it previously in my life! I had some San Pellegrino laxative very effective, it took a few hours, but worked very well! Sweet relief!!

    August Surgery buddies

Good idea. I think it’s pretty standard to require all the labs at three months but my surgeon did require me to go to my PCP a couple weeks after my surgery also. I think it was more of a cookie cutter thing for people that were on medication’s and things that may need them adjusted, but it was in the paperwork so I just did it. it couldn’t hurt. I bet they could answer most questions. Perhaps email your teams office and ask them exactly what labs they suggest.

    Maintenance Preperation

@@AmberFL I get between 1700 and 1900 calories per day right now, it's working well for me. I'm having a surgery tomorrow though and won't be able to work out for a least 3 -4 weeks and will likely try to cut my calories to 1400 per day to avoid weight gain in that time. We'll see how well that goes, lol.

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

@Mspretty86 I'm certain I am a rare case, I got a lift, large implant and internal bra- everywhere I read was rest for 7days, then light walking afterwards, weights after 6 weeks. I was unable to ANYTHING working out or getting my heart elevated for 7 weeks! His explanation was that he didn't want my elevated heart rate to cause swelling in the capsule that he made for the implant then the implant settle in my armpit because my swelling stretched out the internal capsule. I spent A LOT of money for these girls and he kept telling me not to mess up my investment. LOL After 7 weeks I got the okay to start walking, and lower body. I go back on Friday the 14th and I am hoping he releases me to do upper body so I can get back into the full swing of things. I am 11 weeks, and they are settled pretty well, but they have very minimal bounce LOL! When I do work out I wear two sports bras just to keep them in place, because I have big implants. I want to keep them perky as long as possible. I can push them together in bralettes and lingerie for sexy time. They stay up and look so effing good ha! I am still in a post op bra, really hoping on Friday he tells me I can start wearing regular bras at least for events for a couple of hours or so.
  16. Hello, It’s been a week since i went through a gastric sleeve surgery and I use cannabis oils to help with other health issues, however, sometimes friends come over and i would end up vaping a little bit and now idk if its safe to vape after the surgery.

Recently sleeved - with leg cramps

I used to regularly get similar cramps but since my sleeve surgery, doing more exercise and losing weight they are thankfully less frequent though when I do still get one they can still be so bad I almost vomit. Something I am using most nights is a massage roller on my feet and legs and I find it can help. When I do get a cramp, if I can manage it (sometimes is too bad to do more than walk and stretch it out) I will roll on the area and massage it out. I also take electrolyte powder a few nights a week if needed.

    Pain medication

My surgeon always keeps his patients in overnight and a second day if they live alone (I do). He kept me a third day as my back went into spasm - not a complication of the surgery just me holding stress in my back where I have a weakness. Was fine otherwise. He kept my brother in three days too to give him a break from his five children (aged 7-14). I know 🙄. I like to think it was so he’d stronger & his wife wouldn’t have 6 children to look after. 😉
  20. We all felt that anxiety and worry about how things will change, as humans we don't like change much. But for most it's a good change aand whilst it's definitely not easy, it does get easier day by day, week by week from that surgery day! Eating clean whilst on the road is not easy, but also not too hard. You can always take protein shakes/bars etc with you for your small meals. It's also easy to find rotisserie chicken, or to ask for a burger without the bun etc. Remembering you CAN'T eat much, and have to prioritise protein first, so it is possible, just make better choices. The surgery doesn't mean you have to find organic salad all the time, you will be able to cope fine 😊

    Herbalife

Good morning all... I have been getting bored with my protein shakes so for the last 2 weeks I have been going to this nutrition store to get a protein shake and tea every morning. The protein shakes and tea are made with Herbalife products. The shakes are 24 grams of protein, and the teas have a bunch of vitamins. What are your thoughts on using these as part of your plan...

What a Difference Two Weeks Makes!

Hello @Mama - Bee. I am wondering why this is an issue for you ? As its a surgery on the stomach and it really affects your hormones, the chances of getting nausea early on are a thing. They give you medication to deal with it if its a problem. I found that it was like being in the early stages of pregnancy. If I smelled food cooking or thought of food then the nausea would start. It didnt last very long though , maybe a couple of weeks. Also I had issues with excess stomach acid which made me queasy early on but being on PPI and a wedge pillow sorted that out. Don't worry about things that you may never have an issue with. Its not worth the stress.

    Strength & Muscle Building 💪

same, lady, same. traditional strength training was never for me...i forced myself to do it (the bare minimum) for a few years because i "knew" it was good for me, but i really, really disliked it. surprise surprise, it didn't last. i stopped a about 3 years ago. as mentioned above, there are other ways to build strength (and sexy muscles!): i personally do yoga (every day, often 2 or even 3 times a day), pilates (twice a week) and rock climbing (once or twice a week) you don't have to be a traditional gym gal to get fit/strong/healthy (but it does produce results!)...find something u like and do that. you'll more likely stick with it, which is better than doing nothing:) p.s. funny story - sorta related, sorta not - yesterday i saw an older couple "power walking" in my neighbourhood. i use quotes here because the were really just walking at a really slow pace, but were swinging their hips and pumping their arms with vigour! anyway i was all awwwww, they are exercising together so they will live longer together. then i noticed the man was holding a cigarette, lol. now, he could be on the couch smoking that cigarette, but at least he's walking! so yeah, better than nothing, ha. p.p.s. i was a smoker for decades, then not, then again for a few years, then not once more since 2023. i used to have a cigarette after my daily 5K runs...best thing ever, honestly. i half-joked that all my running was cancelling out the smoking. so yeah, again, better than nothing!
