  1. Hello - I’m new here and am thankful for the great info on this site. I’m considering WLS and am wondering if my BMI is not high enough (heaven knows I don’t want it to get higher). I am 37, 5’2”, 190 pounds (BMI 34.7 so just below the 35 mark). I seem to put on about 5-10 pounds every few months. I have to take 4 medications to control my blood pressure, have pain in my feet, ankles and right knee. I think I actually waddle when I walk and that’s obscene. I just learned I also have high cholesterol and I snore really badly. I have been overweight and steadily gaining for about 10 years despite numerous diets, pills, subscriptions, memberships. I am tired of feeling bad in my own skin, and am embarrassed that I now cannot comfortably cross my legs, tie my shoes comfortably, take the stairs without being winded, etc. My weight is also now affecting my career as I have been told that leaders “look a certain way” and “have a certain physical presence.” I think these are coded statements about my weight. I also cannot participate in one of my favorite activities (horseback riding) because I am embarrassed about my weight and worried about being too big for my horse. I am motivated for a big change in my life, but also scared about post op meal planning and having to make my entire life revolve around food planning. I feel like for so long I have counted calories, carbs, macros, steps, activity with varied results, and all I want is to be free, healthy, and balanced in my body without thinking about food for every hour of every day. I am willing to pay out of pocket, and have reached out for a consultation locally. I guess I just wanted to say hello to this community and hear your stories if you have been in a similar place.

    Soft food ideas

One of my favorite is chicken crust pizza google baratric chicken crust pizza. Next favorite is chicken meatballs buffalo sauce its like a wing without the yummy skin Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Best thing is no more GERD/ Acid Reflux! Worst thing is I can't think of is the wrinkles in my face from all the weight loss. I have no issues personally with dumping and can eat anything without any issues except ice cream. I can only eat a very little amount of ice cream (candies too) or I will pay a price with stomach/colon pains and uncomfortable heart rates but I never throw up and I think that may be because of a hiatal hernia repair that my body just won't throw up even when I want it too. I am almost 8 months post op and have lost 21 lbs more with the roux en x bypass and after a couple of months stall and just now starting weight training in a gym am starting to see the scale moving once again. I am only 4lbs from my goal. I am sure my lose skin weighs about this, LOL... But I am happy just not having the GERD or Acid reflux and so it has all been very worth it!
  4. I love swim shorts with a tankini top. The shorts cover my belly and upper legs which are full of loose skin. I always have belly hanging out in regular swim bottoms. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. -Not worrying about the weight limit on my hammock -My bathrobe fully closing -Not having to be restricted to plus size only clothing -My leggings have become too loose -Not worrying about sitting on wicker furniture lol
  6. Thanks for asking this question. I am not quite there yet but anxious to be searching for swimsuits for next summer. I hope you find something that hides your excess skin yet still allows you to show off your assets. Keep us posted on what you find.
  7. I would focus more on your other health conditions. I qualified with a BMI of 36 due to apnea and high cholesterol. FEP BCBS was fairly quick to approve the surgery after it was submitted. I was not required to loose weight before the surgery but I also tried not to gain. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I was originally scheduled for Dec 21. Then corona spiked and all surgeries were cancelled. They started reopening in February but i had to wait for a break at work. Now my date is June 21st. I was mad and disappointed but i will have plenty of recovery time now. I just try to look at the positive side. I did let myself have a moment back in December. I have been working on my own to loose some weight in the meantime.
  9. Thanks for these! I don’t want to hide my body though - I am post op and have a teeny tiny waist and my tummy looks good except for the extra skin at the very bottom. I will look into the skirted bottoms though - I think they could be a good solution.

    Pork and Ground Beef

Yeah, I haven't struggled with much I've eaten except super fatty things (I tried a couple bites of chicken skin once, BIG mistake). But I also stick to the leanest cuts I can find and chew really well. I've tried chicken thighs, that's the closest to a fatty meat I've attempted so far.
  11. Hello! I have just started looking for swimsuits, but have run into a road block - my loose belly skin! It hangs out of the leg holes in the front. It is really not that much, but it looks like my you-know-what is peeking through and over flowing 😅. Has anyone with belly skin found a good suit? Please post a link and/or photo! Thank you so much!!!

    Big belly

there probably isn't much fat there - it's probably mostly/all excess skin. I had a lot of rolls when I had a DEXA scan done at 146 lbs. I thought it was all fat - and I wanted to see how much more weight I should lose (thus, i had the scan). Turns out I only had 22% body fat, which is pretty lean for a woman. That "fat" was just skin. I hate to say it, but plastic surgery is the only want to get rid of it.

I can handle moist meat. Slow cooked chicken that I eat cold is fine. I can't reheat most meats though. Too tough and dry. Other than that, I can tolerate most things except high fat stuff. I tried a bit of chicken skin and dumped so hard on it. But I haven't had any issues with any raw veggies. Salads have been my go to, they go down so smooth!

    I'm losing my hair!!

I'm 7 months post op and my hair loss started 4 months after surgery, after loosing over 40 pounds. I'm fortunate it didn't come out in clumps, just got very thin. I had my hair cut/colored 3 weeks ago and my stylist showed me all the little fuzzy new hair growth that I can now see all over my head. My dietician told me many patients see hair loss for up to a year after surgery. Protein and vitamins are the key to slowing the loss and growing new hair (it's all protein). A temporary side effect of our journey to better health.
  15. Hi, I'm also starting 5th week and will remain on soft foods for the next 2-3 weeks per Dr.'s orders. So far, I've done well with cream of wheat, egg whites and avocado or protein shake with frozen or fresh fruit in the morning. Also Cottage cheese with pineapple. lunch or dinner: surprisingly, I can eat tiny bites of shrimp cocktail and tiny bites of avocado mixed in. I put lemon juice on shrimp and mix cocktail sauce into the mixture. Very tasty and satisfying. This is my fav meal. I can also eat refried beans with a sprinkle of cheese. Very soft chicken (dark meat bbq'd). Soups, and long boiled potatoes and carrots. Mashed potatoes, mashed cauliflower too. Snacks are sugar free choc pudding, sugar free hard candies, skinned peaches or watermelon. I've been consistently losing 1-2 pounds every 1-2 days, always exercise every other day and can now swallow multi vitamin and vitamin supplement of D-3. I can never eat more than 3-4 oz. per meal but can drink up to 6 oz. of protein shake. Remember not to drink 30 min before meals nor during meals. I hope this helps you since we seem to be in the same place post surgery!

    Rashes around surgical scars?

You might be allergic to the surgical glue they used. Cortisone cream will help, and oral Benadryl at night is good too. I am very allergic to chlorhexidine, which is the typical cleanser they use to clean your skin in the operating room. I had a bad rash from groin to neck that lasted for almost a month after my bypass surgery. It was extremely itchy and miserable. I now have it listed as an allergy, but my vascular surgeon used it on my leg for a procedure at the beginning of this month. The rash is finally just gone. I am having plastic surgery tomorrow and will remind them repeatedly to not use chlorhexidine. Talk to your surgeon to find out what they used so it does not get used on you again.

    OOTD

Yes! So annoying! When I finally feel confident enough to wear fitted clothes suddenly all the styles are loose and baggy. The dress I bought yesterday was the only one in the boutique that actually had a fitted waist. Everything else hung like a sack.

    Finally in Onederland!! 🎉

Officially 9 months post op and I weigh 169lbs at 5’8 1/2. HW 252lbs (January 2020) Pre-op diet starting weight (236lbs on August 14, 2020) SW: 228 (August 27, 2020) CW: 169 Goal Weight (158-163 range) My BMI is currently 24.99 so I’ve finally crossed into what “they” call the normal range! Ha I feel great. I’ve had zero complications. I have not had any alcohol since pre surgery and don’t plan on trying any until at least 1 year post op. (I’ve never been a big drinker but would enjoy the occasional margarita or glass of wine). My surgeon asks his patients to wait a year and I told him I would. I do exercise at least 5 times a week incorporating cardio and strength (arms to try and tighten the loose skin- at age 44 things down bounce back like the used to). I’ve done this since I was 6 weeks post op. I haven’t cut out any foods. I don’t tolerate spicy foods like I used too so I don’t eat a lot of those. I don’t eat a lot of pasta or rice either - I’ll try a bite or put a small servings (think tablespoon) on my plate but I’m still focusing on protein and still aim for 80 grams of protein a day and drink one premier protein shake on most days). Yes I eat carbs and will have mashed potatoes, cookie or piece of cake (everything in moderation right?) Some days I get in 64-72 ounces of water other days I’m lucky if I get 45. For all of those in the fence (I was too), just know you can do it - it’s never too late to get yourself healthy.

    Sick of feeling sick

The more common side effects of MiraLAX include: diarrhea or loose stools gas (flatulence) nausea stomach pain bloating The miralax could certainly be contributing to your digestive issues. Apparently it should only be taken in short term i.e. only take it when constipated not every day for weeks/months. It can also be dehydrating. Your issues with artificial sweeteners which you mentioned in another post could also be contributing. Some develop a lactose intolerance or sensitivity after surgery so a food elimination diet or keeping a food log, as @lizonaplane suggested, may be something to try. There are some things I avoid or don’t eat now because they cause discomfort which I discovered through trial & error - mashed potatoes, char grilled meats/vegetables, etc.
  20. I am eleven weeks out I I have lost 40 pounds (including my preop). I am a slow loser and had very little pain post op. I am currently able to eat almost everything I did pre op. My only regret is that I waiting so long to do it. The younger you are when you do it the less excess skin you will have.

    Ahem... 100 lbs down.

Congrats! You look like you don't have much loose skin. Lucky you!

    No more boobs

The demi or half cup didn’t work for me at all. All the loose empty skin at the top of my breast just oozed over the top of the bra. Not attractive.

    Patches

I have sensitive skin and get a rash from them but I do use a vitamin d one on top of tablets to combat my chronic vitamin d deficiency. So far with it my levels have been good. Hopefully someone has more input for you.

    Patches

My surgery center said no patches or gummies, but I know many people here use them and have good results. One thing is if you have sensitive skin, it's possible to get a rash from the adhesive. Maybe someone else here has had good results and will respond. I'm just responding mostly to "upvote" your post!

    ChubRub's Plastic Surgery Thread

@ChubRub I have wanted to say something and just have been overwhelmed and exhausted but you look absolutely amazing! I would like some touch ups too but doubt it is in the cards for me. Flat Tummy looking awesome it is a win for sure. helps make feel that hard work of the WLS journey was worth it. To see the excess skin gone too. I am finding I might have a connective tissue disorder that effects collagen so no amount of collagen supplements can help my skin or joints I worry return of laxity and already have some in areas (calves, back of knees, inside of knees) seeking diagnosis. of course there is more pressing issue to do with bones and joints and such. Just frustrating. I have not had anyone to talk to. I found out it tends to effect people who have had Gastric bypass surgery (digestive problems) so all signs are there since I am having major issue there even now two years out. likely due to this not the WLS itself. sorry went off on Tangent. I cant stay in a straight line. Just why I have not been around much. Keeping it vague because I dont want to take away from your awesome post. My scars are mostly fading pretty well and I am reaching my one year post plastics very soon.
