OMG nibbling is NOT allowed. I have had a few days of being over full from just a nibble of something not soft enough!!!!! I have been struggling to say the least. I was thinking Oh I can do this LB thing and NO I can not!!!! I have only eaten yogurt and smoothies for two days. The fill did not kick in until 3 or 4 days later and when it did every time I open my mouth I insert my foot out my throat sorry that sounds funny but I am so sick. I feel like I have a cynder block in my chest. NOT at all good. I usually takes about 4 hours to pass.
Enough about me how are you doing? Thanks for asking I appreciate the friendship that's for sure. kathy imaluckydog in pain at the moment

That's awesome. I know I was excited when I got my date for the surgery. They are doing it differently now though because I knew mine after my first appointment with Dr. Lutfi. Erin will have you go on a 2 week liquid diet pre op. I did the slim fast low carb and lost 20 pounds. I bought a case of 15 from Sam's club for about $20. Then after surgery I bought the sugar free jellos and sugar free popsicles. I had broth too. You will be on clear liquids the first 2 weeks then full liquids. On the full liquids I had the slim fast and the 80 calorie yogurt , jello, sugar free pudding. I even made egg white scrambled and added a slice of fat free cheese. Just wanted to give you an idea of what to look forward to post op. I got my staples out a week after surgery and was told I could exercise again. I walk and go to the YMCA. My seminar was Feb 17, my consultation was in March, that day I got my surgery date of May 18 so yeah you are close. I am excited for you.

hey lady! I've been doing pretty good. Really didn't start feeling normal til 7 days post op. Yesterday and today I am pretty darn good! I've lost 12lbs post op....that was in 7 days while I was on broth and jello...now I have to eat stuff like sherbert, yogurt, pudding and creamy soups and have not lost anything. All the foods I am eating go right through I feel no restriction at all. I am going to go on my tredmill today for like 15 minutes just to see how I am feeling. Do you know when your first fill is? Mine is July 21st.

Well thanks for the add! Great job on your weight loss! I'd say 30lbs in a month is something to be proud of! Mine is really not as bad as others I have spoken with. 2 meals are protein shakes which I adore! My fave is one I invented chocolate-cherry-banana YUM! The 3rd meal is soup, snacks I can have sf/ff yogurt, pudding, or jello. And the fact that I dropped 8 in 6 days, shoot I must be doing something right : )
I took my son for a walk before we ran errands earlier. It was only about 20 min. but hey i was walking as fast as my fat butt would let me and pushing his 26 lbs in his car, lol. Well I have already had a c-section so I don't figure this pain to be near that. My goal is 145 or a little lower and I am only almost 5'3". So I am really going to try to push being stricter on this last week. I go get bloodwork done on friday. How long would you say I would have to go without picking up my 18 month old?
HUGS, Starla

Hi xavier, I have had three fills the first one was five weeks after my surgery. I kept eating the way we do slow any steady and on the fourth day after my first fill I was so tight I only ate about 2 tablespoons full of food at each meal. Then I could not eat any more. I always ate the protein first and sometimes that is all I could eat. I eat a lot of greek yogurt and eggplant with meat sauce. If you want I can give you the recipe for the Wendy's Chili. I eat that all the time. I usually put grated cheese and or sour cream on it as well. Tastes great and is easy on my band.

Hi Rosie. 60lbs is GREAT! I have lost 88 since banding, 98 all together. You can't judge your weightloss by someone elses. Any weightloss is great. Its really not about what you eat, but how much you eat. Try keeping your portion sizes to 5-6 oz. Watch the slider snacks if your having any (ice cream, yogurt, chips..etc). And increase your exercise. Also if you are too tight you won't lose any weight also, so pay attention to the redzone. If you are having any night coughs, regergitation, slow weightloss, etc you may need to have some fluid taken out. As for the support group you could always suggest it to your doctors office and start a group yourself. It's not hard starting one. And I'm sure there are plenty of WLS patients that could use the support just as much as you. Good luck to you. Please feel free to ask questions. Keep up the great work.

Good Morning Elizabeth,
I took a leave from work to take care of my health and thank God for giving the opportunity to do so. I was diagnosed with an incurable cancer in 2006 (Follicular Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma) It has reamained stable for 5 yrs this coming Jan. God has given me the stenght to jump these hurdles as they cross my path.
I feel the same way about this forum. It really prepared me for "The Big Day" Aside from everyone being so informative & helpful they have been so nice and caring. I also need to listen to my body & right now its telling me to slow down a little. I feel really good these past couple of days but still tire easily. Im so used to always doing something. I need to sit back & embrace the new and different phases of this journey.
Im really glad your feeling better & able to enjoy your gogurt. I see my Dr. today for follow-up. Im hoping he lets me eat some yogurt cuz I get hungry & liquids not quite taking care of it.
Blessings,
Isabel

Hi fellow August Bandster, always exciting to meet new friends along this new found journey. As much as I love my doctor, I wouldn't mind having yours right about now to advance me on. Even though this yogurt I just ate seems to be very satisfying at the moment. The other motivator is that I've lost 12 lbs since last Friday.
Let's definitely keep in touch. Hope to be celebrating "our" success stories REAL SOON.

OMG! Congrats on graduating!! I have one more year to go..smh...oh well im getting there.
A typical day for me would be a slim fast shake. (they have a high protein one 20g with 2g of carbs) Those are wayy cheaper than the other protein shakes. So its the shake for bfast then a small snack a couple hours later..maybe a banana or strawberries. For lunch I almost always eat a lean Cuisine..the steak tips with veggies! its soo good..with only 160 calories. A few hours later another snack..some yogurt or another shake..I always go to the gym after work..My PT has me doing resistance every other day and cardio on those other days. Then when my bf gets home I cook dinner always under 500 calories but it varies what it is...Thats my day...sounds healthy right?? Yea still not working..lol

i was kinda bad with that stage, like you not knowing what to eat, and what will get stuck or not. also my mind would not get past the whole puree thing, i could'nt do it either.lol .i had mashed potatoes, apple sauce, grits, scambled eggs(no boiled may get stuck), yogurt, soft cheese(almost melted),crackers, tuna fish and my protein shakes(8oz Vanilla soy milk, half banana, and the powder). they say you can also try soft fruit w/ out juice, flaky fish and baked sweet potatoes, cottage cheese but i never tried those. i would'nt say that i over reacted with the whole STUCK thing but i never had anything get stuck yet. I'm careful with it some what but kinda need it to happen because i'm relaxed and cocky and need to slow down with my chewing still. i'll have to pull out my papers from the nutrionist and see what else she had on there, but i hope this gives you some type of variety.

Hi I joined WW last Thursday. I also feel I need the weekly weigh ins. I was banded in Sept. and I am struggling. I lost 20 lbs in the first 2 months and have not lost anything since. I made it through the holidays without gaining, that made me happy. I don't feel I am eating too much just the wrong things. I eat soft foods (tuna, scambled eggs, yogurt) that goes through me really fast and I am hungry 1 hour later. I just do not know what to do.
I would love to hear back from you and tell how WW is working for you.

Hi,
After surgery you'll be swollen a lot...So, you will have restriction - I was on liquid for about 3 days then I started to try mushy (yogurt, mashed potato, creamy soups etc.) Did mushy for about 5 days then started to try normal foods (sausage, veggies, fruits etc and took the small bites & chewed)...By about 7-8 days post op I could eat whatever I wanted and didn't have t...

Hi, lovely to hear from you - i'm down six pounds since surgery so i'm elated! finding it hard keeping to yogurts and soups but i'm not hungry. One more week on that then i'll go onto the mushy stuff. I didn't get ANY gas trapped - don't know if thats cos i got up 3 times in the night after op and walked up the corridor.
how's your weight loss been? i'm craving pasta and pizza.

Thanks for the encouragement. Wow, 20 lbs. I hope I do that great. They didn't put me on a diet prior to the surgery. I was surprised. I've lost 6 lbs. so far. I started yogurt today, Alma said we could when we got home. I don't have that full feeling yet. I don't think he put any fluid in my band. Guess it has to wait for swelling to go down. I really don't want to mess this up, but I'm hungry some of the time. Will just take a while to get used to this and then I will get my fill in 6 weeks. Write me.

Good Deal! I'm so glad your doing well. I just had breakfast and ate a 1/4 cup of cream of wheat, 1/4 cup of Vanilla Yogurt, and a 1/4 cup of Apple sauce which was ok but yesterday for lunch I had a LB Tanksgiving Dinner LOL...Pureed smoked Turkey, Mashed Potatoes and some Cranberry Applesauce which was Devine! I handled the mushy food no problem. I have yet to have any of the (typical) side effects and I did see some improvement with "the problem" today.
Speaking of Clam Chowder I have a can in the cupboard I think that will be todays lunch. I am now about to start my walking. I hope you have a GREAT DAY! TTYS-Pat

I go for my consultation on Monday and start pre-op diet on Wednesday next week. As far as I know I will have protien shakes, yogurt, and one WW meal for the 2 weeks.
I am 56 yr. old and from Illinois. I don't know if I told you that before. I think I will have 80-100 pounds to lose. How about you?

Thanks!!!! I really try to watch what I eat. I log all my food in sparkpeople.com. I eat very little the week after a fill and then as my restriction goes away, I start to eat more. I get fills every month and that works for me. I usually eat coffee and sf creamer for breakfast and some light/ff yogurt. Lunch is cottage cheese, some deli sliced turkey meat and some fruit. Dinner is a lean cuisine or some type of protein and veggies--think fish or chicken. I don't eat sweets and I try to keep it low carb/low fat/high protein. I also work out 3-6 times per week doing at least 30 min of cardio on the elliptical machine and doing strength training on the weights 2-3 times per week. I've lost 68 pounds since the pre-op diet and surgery on December 1st, 2008. Let me know if I can answer any questions and good luck. You're doing great!

I am doing well too! I came home on Saturday and day 3 and 4 were definitely turning points in recovery. Still sore at the port area and feeling gas pains under my shoulder for the first time today so hoping that goes away soon. I was so hungry yesterday so today, I tried some yogurt and a cream soup and boy do I feel so much better. I really needed that. Hope everyone else is doing well!

He actually told me something completely different than the instructions. Nikki or Rachel (can't remember which one) told me to just follow the instructions. So for the day of surgery, it was just clear liquids. Day 1-4 was broth, jello, tomato juice, milk, cofee.. I think on the second full day he said to add protein shakes back in. Day 5-14 will be mushies/pureed..anything through a straw basically. I think after that 14 days, you can start introducing soft foods first, and then solids. To be honest it was hard to even think about drinking anything the day of and the next 2 days after that. So tomorrow I get to start mushies. Yogurts, puddings, creamy soups, pureed foods. I am supposed to go back to work on Monday. I sit at a desk all day, so hopefully over the weekend I will feel even better. How is your pre-op going? Are you self-pay or did you have insurance? Rachel
