    Suffering or not?

If you can't get down at least a couple oz of solid protein you are too tight. I would start with .3 cc out. Good luck.

    Liquids

I started the liquid diet today. So far I'm doing really well. I had a premiere protein shake(caramel) I added 1 scoop of genepro and topped it off with some coffee. That took me up until a little after 10 a.m. I started at 8:30 a.m. I'm not hungry but I have some Gatorade2 lime that I've been sipping on. I have some jello for lunch. I'm not supposed to start the diet until next Wednesday on the 22nd. However, I want to start early so that I can get the most out of my sleeve. Surgery is on March 1st. Pray for me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. Hi I am 38 and I had RNY on July 21st 2015. My hw was 402. Right now I am 248. I love my decision. I have never thrown up and after my surgery I didn't have much pain b at all. One thing I did have was GAS! That made me so nervous and almost regret my decision. Eventually after gas strips and a good "poop" I felt better. One thing about me that's strange is I have NEVER gotten sick. I don't really eat much but I eat whatever I want just not much. I do make sure Protein is ALWAYS included in my meals. No shakes. .. yuck! When I did drink shakes slim fast protein chocolate shakes were my favorite. I sometimes get them when I do my pouch test b and fast for a few days. Otherwise I'm happy. I workout but need to do more. I don't drink when I eat. That hurts. I will say one thing though my stomach makes noise all day everyday. But for now I am very happy with my decision .I will help anyone who need help with their journey and or answer any questions. Sent from my Z981 using the BariatricPal App

    Back at it!

It helps me to use My Fitness Pal and track everything. Remember to eat Protein first and allow 30 minutes after you eat before you drink Water. Stock up on low fat and fat free Proteins. When I'm starving (in my head) I eat plain yogurt or cottage cheese or drink hot tea. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16
  5. Today is day 7 on the Protein diet and I'm feeling great!!! I would have never guessed that not gorging on food would be this easy. It's amazing what you can do when you are determined and you see a light at the end of the tunnel. I have the strength and the mental will power that I didn't know I had in me. I've been sticking to this diet 100% and I get mad when someone tries to temp me to stray. I'm on the straight and narrow path to being a better healthier me for my 3 kids and my husband. I pan on living a long time I have to be around to see my daughter graduate from college in 4 years and to be there to Celebrate when she reaches her goal of being a doctor and sooooo much more. I know God is not finished with me yet. I have work to do.

    It all starts today...

Yay! Good luck to you. My pre-op diet is a protein shake for breakfast, a protein shake for lunch, and a small meal for dinner consisting of 3 oz chicken, 1 cup non-starchy veggies, 1/2 cup fruit. If I am starving in between meals I can do broth, celery, or sugar free jello. It's pretty easy, and the only meal I have to plan for is dinner. If you wanted, you could do something similar to that. I feel the same way you do, nervous but SO ready!

    Newbie Alert!

I was sleeved on the same day as you! I am 33 and my SW was 252 (After losing 15 lbs on the pre-op diet). I feel like my protein intake is going extremely well, so I want to share the things I'm using. 1)Every morning I start the day with 2 servings of ProtiDiet Hot Cocoa. 30 g 2) I use Premier Protein (cheap at Costco). I use vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, but chocolate tastes the best. 30 g. 3) another shake type protein I use is Muscle Pharm's Combat Cookies n cream powder. Best powder I've had. Also from costco. 25 g. 4) unjury unflavored powder. I buy this through my dr. It works very well in chicken broth! I made Jell-O shots with it too, but they were a little weird. 21 g. 5) Protidiet juice concentrates. These are by far the most "normal" tasting Protein Drink I've tried. Very easy to drink! 15 g.

    10 years post op

It's never too late to go back to basics. Why not make an appointment with your NUT (or a new NUT if your previous NUT is not available) to talk about your goals. Also, research on nutrition has brought quite a few changes in the last few years. In the meantime: track your food focus on getting in at least 64 oz fluids make sure you are getting in enough Protein (my protein target is 100 grams, do you have a protein target?) avoid added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup, starches, and fried foods and, exercise
  10. Hi all, Had sleeve surgery Aug 1. Recovery has gone very well other than some minor issues. I didn't need any pain meds when I went home, I took one Vicodin in the hospital, and one regular Tylenol when I got home. Nothing else. For the first couple days after, when I would drink, shortly after I took a sip (I guess the time it took to travel to the stomach) I would feel a mild sharp pain near my sternum that subsided in a few seconds. This has gone away. Stopped, for the most part on about the fourth day. Haven't had any issues with constipation. Plenty of gas, but no real problem getting rid of it. As all say, walking around helps a lot. Another tip, if you need to pass gas on the "lower end", sitting on the toilet and rocking a little while helped me. I'm now getting in 6oz an hour, with four of those hours being a Protein shake. Coming out to about 400-500 cal a day. I have no pain now. Just tired and dizzy at times. The only issue I have is I AM SICK OF THE PROTEIN SHAKES! I hate them! But you come to realize, if you don't drink them, you will feel like crap. My sense of smell is off the charts. Some cooking foods that my wife may make for the family make me sick to my stomach from the smell. I go outside. Best, Jim Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    11 Days post-op

Glad to hear that your recovery is going well! That sharp pain near your sternum could have been from repair to a hiatal hernia which is pretty common for surgeons to fix while performing bariatric surgery. You might ask your surgeon if there was a hernia repair during your procedure. In any case, glad to hear the pain has subsided. I hear you loud and clear on the Protein shakes. No matter how many flavors I had, I dreaded the next shake!! I did find some water-based Protein drinks that really helped as they had different flavors and textures than the shakes. About Time Prohydrate and Isopure were 2 that really helped offer a variety. Also, adding Protein powder to Soup broth was a good alternative. Glad to hear things are going well and welcome to the "other side"!!

  15. I have been struggling with my weight since I gave birth to my first kid. I will never forget; I was 185 lbs when I left the hospital (19 yrs. old) and it’s been a roller coaster since. When I left the hospital they put me on the Depo Provera birth control shot and I blew up. I figured that was the best option since taking my BC pills daily was a concern. I was too busy enjoying life lol. My weight at that time increased to 260 so I went on a serious diet and was able to lose 48 lbs. I went down to 212 lbs. and that was my lowest weight in my adult years. My weight gradually increased again but I never went over 260 lbs. I was always lucky enough to maintain that weight. I would occasionally go on diets to lose weight when I had something big coming up or going on vacation, but of course nothing last. I tried Weight watchers, Curves, Phentermine 37.5 mg, Zantrex 3, and the Lemonade diet. I was able to lose the most with Phentermine but I think my body got too used to it in the end. Up until my I had my 2nd child I didn’t really worry much about my weight. I figured as long as I don’t go over 260 I’m good. Well that quickly changed when I had my son. I was 240 lbs. when I got pregnant and only gained 20 lbs. during my entire pregnancy. I was active and tried my best to limit my calorie intake. However, after I gave birth it was a wrap, my weight increased to a whopping 270, and when I got laid it increased to 313. My highest ever! I started thinking about Bariatric back in 2012 but it was going to be the lap band. After speaking to a few ppl I realized it wasn’t for me. My son is now 5 and weight is something I think about constantly. It’s hard for me to keep up w/ him and I find myself missing out because I pretty much hide in my house. He spends a lot of time w/ his father or his sister because it’s hard for me to move around. I get tired quickly, my body starts to ache, and I just don’t want to be seen. I told myself this is not a way to live life and I’m missing my son grow up so I finally make the decision to do something about it. First it was the Sleeve, but after further research and speaking with ppl that had both surgeries done I decided to change my mind to the Gastric Bypass. My surgeon’s office submitted for approval last week and I’m been impatiently waiting. I’m scared to death, but I know in the long run this is the best option for me. When I started the weight loss journey I was 306 and now I’m at 280. Once we get the approval I will start the pre-op diet and hopefully will be able to lose another 10 lbs. before surgery. My goal weight is 175 but my doctor wants me to get down to 150. Personally I think that’s a bit small but he knows best.
  16. Hello from San Diego! Just got banded three days ago and already am losing weight, though I know it's water weight at the start. Still in a bit of pain, but not bad. My surgeon cleared me today to start drinking "full" liquids, and I had some protein shakes that were quite a relief after being on clear liquids for a few days. I, too, look forward to getting off of the weight yo-yo and being able to maintain weight loss for a change.

  18. Wake up- walk 2-3 miles- Protein shake (pre made same ones I used pre op), I am on feet all day for work- shake for lunch, hard boiled eggs (example) for snack, small protein dinner. Bed around 11pm. No snacking. Probably 1000 calories a day. Maybe my portion sizes are too big because I'm not having any side effects and can still eat larger portions. May 10th!

Hi. I'll be your May 10th buddy. Our journeys seem to have started around the same time. I started my preop diet on 4/26 at 210 and am down to 202. I must admit, I'm concerned bcs I've not been able to get my 64 oz of Water on top of the shakes and Protein bars. I'm not generally a snacker so it's been difficult. I'm surprised however that I have not been hungry or anxious about food at all during this preop diet phase. I've had to get creative to dodge some bullets at some social functions this week but it wasn't too tough. I do find myself lying a lot as to why I can't eat. Lol (I already ate, I'm full, I can't drink bcs I'm on antibiotics, etc). I even held strong against my son's birthday cake. Mother's Day will be a big test. So as I'm trying to stay focused, I wish the same for you. Let's stay in touch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein balls

It's been posted before but I cut it in half because I wanted to try it first before making a larger batch. I thought this was really big enough for me. oatmeal ( not instant) 1/2 cup chocolate Protein powder 1/2 cup ( I used unjury powder) Peanut Butter 1/2 cup ( I used chunky Skippy) sugar free maple syrup ( enough to make mixture come together) Splenda sweetener packets 3 Heat peanut butter in microwave until warm. Add the oatmeal, Protein Powder and Splenda mix together with a spoon or fork. Add enough sugar free maple syrup to make the mixture come together so you can roll it into balls. I made them about an inch and got 12 balls out of this recipe . I still have to figure calories and protein amount. Refrigerator or freeze in airtight container.
  22. Hello! I am new here and stumbled on the site accidentally while doing a google search for something else. Anywho, I am glad I found a site where others can relate to what I am going through and about to be going through. I am doing my pre-op diet, which isn't just liquids and have been on it since April 1st. My surgeon has me on that for a month due to me having to lose 60 pounds and then I will go for my endoscopy sometime in May and then get my date. I'm sure we all here have had to lose weight before getting the surgery, what kind of exercise did you all do and what kind of Protein brands do you all like? I'm kind of having trouble finding flavors I like, and so far the ones I do drink make me cringe when it is going down. lol

    A therapeutic post

I'm on day 5 of pre-op all liquid diet. I have surprised myself at how well I've handled it. However, I'm struggling right now! It's Friday night and we would normally eat out. Instead, I am cooking a yummy meal for my family at home (which they will love). When I stopped for groceries on the way home I realized that I had forgotten to drink my 2:00 shake and I was hungry (maybe the 5th true hungry I have felt this week)! So, grocery shopping that hungry was hard! I got home and began prepping the meal (cooking has been strangely helpful this week as it keeps me busy and after I cook and clean up I don't feel like eating). I fixed a cup of coffee with unflavored protein- I had to force it probably because I let myself get over-hungry. I popped a big popper full of popcorn for my kids (who am I kidding- I wanted to smell it and savor the scent)....it's never smelled so delicious! I ate 6 kernels and I'm so mad at myself. I've been the pre-op diet saint! I just needed to come here and confess and apologize
  24. Hi all, It has been a bit since I have been on. I got my band on june 10th. I am scared because I think I am at a stand still. I am having problems eating only 1/2 a cup at a time. I try to keep my portions small, but I have to admit with the holidays I have eaten more than I should. My doctor felt I had enough fill about a month and a half ago. At first I felt the fill but now I feel like I did before the band. Except I can feel the restiction when I each dry type foods. Such as bread or a bit of cake. I don't eat cake often at all. I had a couple bday parties and had a small slice. What scares me is what if I don't need another fill? I am still battling with my love for food. I also feel I am losing so slow. Now I love my band. Wouldn't change a thing. I also knew it would be a challenge. I have lost 34lbs in 6months. I really thought I would atleast be down 50lbs by now. I work out 5 or six times a week. I should eat more protein though. I know my band is in good shape. What I was wondering is if anyone else feels this struggle? Also does it sound like I can use another fill? I think I should. Although I know I will struggle with dryer foods. I have no problem with almost all foods. In fact other than a quick feeling of pressure for a second as the bread goes down I feel no restriction. I am not at all trying to put the band down I just need some friends. If you made it this far through this thanks for reading my book.lol

    Post op

I'm a week out and just finally have been able to get Water in like I'm supposed to and I even finished a whole Protein shake today, which I consider a victory. The past six days I was only doing about 10oz of water and I couldn't even stomach an ounce of Premier Protein. Green tea helped and so did clear broth. I know it couldn't go down bc my stomach was swollen, I feel significantly less swollen today since my surgery. You're definitely okay, just a little swollen right now. I wouldn't worry to much and don't push yourself too hard. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
