    SO SCARED

I had no hair loss at all. Kept my vitamins up and was fine. Also no side effects with wind etc and I panicked before surgery thinking I’d have both. WLS Bypass is exactly what it is, you have a smaller stomach so smaller appetite. Everything else more or less stays the same. Best thing I ever done and to think I could’ve cancelled because of my fears. Go for it. It will be wonderful
  2. That's about how I got into this process too. I have SEVERE reflux and a sliding hiatal hernia. I saw a general surgeon to have a Nissen fundoplication with hernia repair. I had at that time a BMI of 43, plus OSA (obstructive sleep apnea), high cholesterol, and as my later bloodwork showed, I'm also prediabetic. This is all on top of the already crappy health I have as a result of a car accident in 1997, which totally screwed up my spine, making it very difficult to stay active and healthy. He referred me to the bariatric clinic for a combo hernia repair and RNY gastric bypass. That visit (w/ general surgeon) was back in April. I'm now more than 75% of the way through all the required clearances, dietary education, psych eval, etc I need to move forward with surgery. I'm looking at December 6 as my tentative surgery date, and truthfully, I've never been so excited. From what I've seen on here so far, the journey is long, but worth it for most folks. Setbacks can be had both pre and post op, but gotten over or around. I think a lot of it has to do with the mindset....at least it has for me. I can't speak for other people and their journeys. Everyone's different.
  3. So I just went to a general surgeon for a clinic visit bc I have a hiatal hernia and he recommended I have gastric bypass. My BMI is 44 and he said he couldn’t repair my hiatal hernia unless I did the weight loss surgery. I’m waiting for their office to call me to tell me if my insurance will cover it. I’m hopeful that I will be able to get it done and lose weight and get healthy. Does anyone have any thoughts on gastric bypass? I downloaded an audiobook about it and the author said he made this website so I joined.
  4. Hello everyone, This is my first post. I am having gastric bypass surgery tomorrow 10/19/22 and I am so nervous and excited. I can't believe that the day is almost here. I have been researching WLS for about 5 years and finally started the process about 6 months ago. I am mostly nervous about the mental challenges I will face after the surgery. Any tips for a newbie?

    New here

Congrats! I just got my surgery date too. November 16
  6. I'm so ready for this. I was scheduled for August 16th for the sleeve but when they got in there the Dr found a massive haital hernia. So it took priority and now it's almost healed. They said November surgery. Just called the Dr's office and they said they'll have the scheduler get hold of me. Yay!!! Sent from my SM-S901U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. So, I have seen a lot of people getting the revision from sleeve to bypass due to GERD and I have seen people getting the sleeve to bypass revision due to weight gain years after the original surgery. I am not experiencing either of these issues. I had my surgery in the middle of 2021. I was around 300 pounds then. It is now more than a year later. I have only lost around 70 pounds. I am still losing, but very slowly. I feel like due to my starting weight, I should have lost more than that in this time period. I am not ungrateful for the weight I have lost so far, but I want to lose much more and I am feeling a bit stagnant. I want to truly get down to a normal weight. I feel like it will take me forever to do that with the sleeve, so I want to get the gastric bypass. I feel like getting a revision to bypass would jumpstart the weight loss for me again. But I am wondering if I would even be able to get approved for a revision in my position, since I am not suffering from any other medical conditions and I haven't actually regained any of my weight. Is there anyone else in my position who has gotten a revision from sleeve to bypass so soon after the original surgery with no other medical conditions, just because they felt like they didn't lose enough weight with the original surgery?

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Hi all, Just a shout out to the November 2021 guys - how is everyone doing now? I'm exactly 11 months post op now, 5lbs below my original goal of 160. I lost 10lbs last month after losing only 3 the previous month so stalls are clearly still a thing - I thought that was me done but apparently not! My ideal weight (what even is that???) is 147lbs apparently, which is now 8lbs away, so the closer I can get to that the happier I will be, but I'm not setting an official new goal of anything, seems clear the loss will just stop when it stops. Then starts the *really* hard work. I hope everyone is happy with how they are doing. Please check in and let me know - seems like yesterday we were just starting this journey together. 😍

    No Pre Op Diet?

Well my surgery is November 7th 2 days before my birthday lost track but I believe I will be 43 otherwise 42 LOL my doctor did not put me on a liquid diet but since I've had to quit smoking and today is my 17 day without smoking I believe I've been eating more it's very stressful I'm still doing caffeine which him not putting me on a diet makes me not want to give up smoking plus caffeine but I told my weight loss advocate that I would still like to put myself on a liquid diet a couple days prior to surgery she said it's totally up to me I just know that if I don't then there's a chance in my liver will be bigger than what they need to do the surgery and I don't want to take that chance of going in and then them saying Oh sorry we have to cancel so I'm going to try this the seminar that I have to go to prior to the surgery is November 1st that is the day we get the list of what protein drinks and clear liquids we can drink so that is the day that I'm going to start a liquid diet and hope to continue it throughout till the surgery dates I'm wishing myself luck LOL because seriously if I can quit smoking cold turkey even though it is stressful then I better be able to go on a liquid diet as well terrified for the surgery been watching all the videos of good surgeries and not so good surgeries the recovery I would suggest everybody watch the surgeries prior only to see which way you could possibly go you never know you can have an easy recovery or a not so easy recovery but at least it helps you know what to do if you have either or hopefully I can lose those at least 6 lb like one of these prior girls on here so I can make my doctor happy too thanks a bunch I love reading these forums they are very helpful

    August surgery buddies!

Very good, Iast week was my bday had to celebrate it with coconut water while everybody was having mojitos, sangrias, beer, rum, etc. My friends, family and coworkers went out of the way to get me some kind of "cake" that I can eat (no flour, no sugar) they did a great job find it alternatives, even though i could only eat a little bit. A non scale victory: dropped 2 sizes of clothing, right now buying panties and bra online, cuz everything is to big. My doctor says everything is fine, have an appointment with him on November I´m expected to lose 12lbs by that time. Do any of you have a recommendation of a youtube channel/app for low impact home exercise, still don´t feel comfortable going to the gym, and I don´t have a buddy or family in the city where I work to go with.

    Weight regain advise please

Feeling really discouraged today as I have my egg retrieval tomorrow and they said there only seems to be 2 follicles that are the right growth. 2 more (finally) started responding to the FSH & LH meds on day 13 but it was too late. As it was, they had predicted I would only get 4 eggs. I have another cycle planned at the end of November giving me about 6 weeks to lose weight. I was told that even a 5-10% loss of my weight (10-20 lbs) would improve my chances. It seems daunting to lose that much weight in 6 weeks though given that I have just managed to maintain for so many years rather than to lose. I did the math and if I have been eating about 2000 calories and maintaining then I should be able to lose about 15 lbs by eating 800 calories/day for 45 days. If I continue to walk as I have been for the past month, I may be able to lose even more before starting the next round of injections. Someone tell me if this sounds crazy, please!
  14. Cool! Congratulations on your weight loss! This is very good information. I appreciate your update and response. How much are you trying to lose? For the past month I did a complete overhaul of my diet to do very low carb and low calorie diet, and high protein. I’m so glad I was able to lose 15 lbs. I have 35 lbs to go. I might put the surgery on hold until I can get my diet under control. I didn’t know that the bypass will cause anemia. Surprisingly, my GERD went away with the diet changes. 😃

Anyone else do a VSG to ESG?

Hey! I just had the ESG last month after having a VSG 11 years ago. I had gained back 45 of the 110 pounds I lost in the last few years. Im loving it so far! restored my sleeve to its original size and shortened it. Its very cost effective and only one or two days of any discomfort. I never took a pain pill. I am down 20 pounds, 15 since day of surgery 5 weeks ago. I highly recommend it! I was very strict with the rules though and just got on regular food yesterday. I am a Physician Assistant in Neurosurgery so I work in healthcare and I do not recommend the bypass. I see lots of patients with almost 100 percent regain of weight and a lot of vomiting. Not everyone, but its something to consider. The anemia is another concern with the bypass.
  16. Hey I'm having RNY Gastric Bypass on 11.29.22 (November 29, 2022) and trying to find surgery date twins! We can do this!

    October 2022 surgery support

Hello, just joined! October 18th for gastric bypass surgery. I'm still wavering due to anxiety and uncertainty about the lifestyle ahead and whether there was more i could have done. About out of time, but wish I was more excited.

    Stall on loss

I am in the same boat with you. Dr said between weeks 3-5 it will stall out then pick back up. I’m 4 1/2 weeks post bypass and only lost 16 since surgery. I have lost inches and forgot to measure before I started my journey. But I did measure a week ago so I know going forward. I did take before pictures and current pictures and can tell a difference. That what I look at to keep me going so that I won’t worry about the scale. All this protein is helping to build muscle and it weighs more than fat.

    Awful doctor experience

Thank you for sharing the info! I’ve also come to this conclusion as well. I think I was more leaning towards VSG because I know a few people who have had it, but now I do think that bypass would be a better option! Thank you for your response!
  20. So happy to hear from you Letty! Tomorrow starts my second trimester. Everything is going good so far. My weight has stabilized but I’m not gaining. My nutritionist had advised me that I need to increase my calories by like 700/day. Even with the increase in calories and Protein (averaging 80g/day) I’m keeping level. Did you have sleeve or bypass? I had bypass and I’m really really hoping that heartburn doesn’t return - ever! Hopefully the next 8 weeks go by fast for you! Sounds like you’re going to have a Christmas baby!! Yay!!

    Vitamins & Supplements?

the OP is a bypass patient - not sleeve. Not taking vitamins isn't an option for bypassers due to the malabsorption.
  22. catwoman7

    Vitamins required or not?

I think you pretty much have to with bypass because of the malabsorption component. Sleevers don't have malabsorption, so it may be different for them (depending on the person and their labs, of course...)

    Did I eat too much?

It also sheds some light on the often poor results in regards to weight loss after revision surgery (exception seems to be band to bypass; these patients often seem to have good results).

    Bad to bypass

Hi, I’m similar to you.. I although I had my band done in 2013. I’m now looking at gastric bypass. I’ve had my appointment with the GP and booked into the surgeon next month. I think it’s standard practice to do it in 2 stages.. I had the liquid taken out of my bad 18 months ago so I’m hoping they might be able to do the surgery at once.. given it may have had time to rest with out it the liquid in it. The nurse told me that they will consider once they get in there. 🤷🏻‍♀️ but talk to the surgeon and see what he says. Are you booked in? Can you ask them if all is ok once they get in there if they can do it all at once.
