  1. Had my revision surgery on 10/18/16 from LapBand to sleeve due to esophagus issues from the band. I was banded in 2010. If I can answer any questions, just ask away. Recovery wasn't easy, but it wasn't terrible either. I haven't had any problems with drinking or getting my Protein in. Still off work but that's only because I want to make sure I've got a good handle on food before I return to my job. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I'm having the revision surgery cuz I've had nothing but complications with my band i have it for about 4 years I never could find my sweet spot is either over filled under-filled I just thought I would go about my business and deal with it! sometimes I can eat and sometimes I cant eat most the time I am vomiting because my food gets stuck I finally made an appointment with a new bariatric surgeon and found out that it slipped and is at the top of my stomach and bottom of my esophagus which means I don't have a pouch anymore so when I am able to eat without any problems I totally over it because I never know when I'm going to be able to eat again which sucks!!!!also I have a hiatal hernia I gained all my weight back plus a couple pounds and I also have slowly and gradually been getting heartburn more frequently I believe that is due to the hernia I was just approved by my insurance and hopefully get a call today to get my surgery date.. for the revision. I wish I would have went in a couple of years ago and caught it in time but I didnt there is no way that I would want to be re banded just to go through all of this again I want the damn thing out and I want a permanent change it is definitely scary though but in the end I'm sure it'll be well worth it!!! In facts my surgeon and a lot of Surgeons are not doing the Lap Band anymore because of the complication rates I'm happy for the people that have not had any problems or complications:) Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Revision approved!

I just met with the surgeon today to discuss the reflux. I was sleeved in 2015 and did great initially. 5 months out and the reflux and pain started. Gall bladder removed, no help. Was unable to keep with the bariatric diet due to reflux, nausea, and vomiting. Have gained back most of the weight lost. It seems simple carbs, and never letting my stomach get empty is the way I have been surviving. Surgeon is pretty certain that revision will solve my problems. And he said this is a medical necessity and will happen sooner rather than later. They will be calling tomorrow to schedule. I'm anxious but excited. My life and health have revolved around this for so long. Keeping fingers and toes crossed.
  4. I’m preparing for revision all surgery in the next couple months. I’m concerned about how much I can lose. I originally lost 112 with the sleeve and have gained back about 55-60 (I’m afraid to look). I have heard things like the sleeve portion of the surgery (which I have already had) helps you lose the weight and the rest of the surgery (malabsorption part) helps you keep it off. Wanted to see if there were any people here that have done this revision that can give me the skinny on how much I will lose. ANY advise on what I’m getting myself into is appreciated. All my research points to go but real life experience is always appreciated!
  5. Hi! About 12 years ago I had the lap band. I started at about 280 lbs and got down to 200 lbs but now I’m back to about 240 lbs (I should be around 140 lbs). I have terrible reflux, morning bile in my throat, and vomiting multiple times a week. I found a great revision doctor and he has approved me for revision to gastric bypass. I’m going in on 4/23 to make sure my band has slipped so that insurance pays. But regardless (I will self pay at this point- even if I have to sell plasma), I’m having the bypass and I’m so excited. Any one out there that can give me some good advice? What to expect? I appreciate any guidance!! Thank you so much! 💜
  6. There is no reason other than complications why a revision should be done in 2 surgeries... or take that long. My Band to RNY took 6+ hours, because the band was fully encapsulated and took my surgeon over 3 times longer to remove it. That said, I didn't know I was under for 6+ hours. Sounds like they are either being lazy or trying to soak you for more money.
  7. Hi everyone: I know that it may take some time for people to respond but I keep going to the doctor to complain but its not helping. In 2015 I had the sleeve but after losing 50 pounds, within 5 years I gained it all back. In July 2020 I had the bypass. I'm down over 110 pounds which is amazing. The problem is that I'm finding that even foods, that I originally could eat after surgery, I now can't eat. Almost everything I eat makes me nauseous or I get sick. I'm literally dependent on protein shakes and quest bars as my only source of viable nutrition. I was prescribed zofran but so far that hasn't helped at all. Did anyone else have similar experiences? Any guidance, thoughts, tricks or food suggestions would be appreciated. I really have found that all natural proteins make me sick. Thanks, Phil
  8. I'm only 6 months post revision, so I'm not really sure if there is a honeymoon period like I heard about with the sleeve. I too have gotten below my goal and significantly lower than I ever got after VSG surgery. But I was overweight, not obese, at the time of my revision since the surgery was done for medical reasons, not for weight loss. I really don't know why I've lost so much weight, since I feel like my insides have been healed for months. I try very hard to eat healthy and I walk 5-6 miles a day. But I would be less than honest if I said I never ate sweets, snack foods etc. I haven't been actively losing weight for the past month (only lost 1.2 lbs. in the last 30 days). I think I'm actually in maintenance, which would be great if I can just keep doing what I'm doing and maintain! If it's a honeymoon, I hope it keeps going.
  9. I havent been losing much at this point nor do I want to. I lost 25lb more after the revision and have been maintaining it now for a good 6 to 8 months. I have noticed that if I dont eat a normal 3 times or more a day my weight will drop. I had a crown done a week ago and havent been able to eat on that side and dropped 7 lbs in a week!!! CRAZY
  10. I'm looking into getting a revision and no longer have insurance that will cover it. Has anyone gone through Dr.Elias Ortiz or Dr. Almanza in Tijuana for their revision? What was your experience?
  11. march 31th i had port revision surgery, my port completely flipped over and now i am home healing but i am nervous that the port will flip again when i work out has any one else felt the same way from their port revision surgery

    Port revision

I had port revision after a slip. I, also, may need to eventually get a smaller port because it has turned over to make room as my surgeon says happens after a large amount of weightloss. Best wishes. Karen
  13. That sux!!!!!!!!!!! I have the part in my Medical SPD highlighted and book marked for quick reference in case I have to go through this someday... Ours pays for revision (thank goodness)
  14. Hi Just found out today my band has to come out and we are looking at a revision. My surgeon wants me to do a rny due to my complications with ulcers, gastritis, etc. I gained 20lbs since they let everything out of it 4 months ago and have to have another endoscopy to ensure my ulcers have healed. I am seriously considering the revision and not just a removal because I know I will gain the weight back. How are you coming with your decision?
  15. Hello all, New to the forum here. I had a gastric sleeve done back in 2012, the first 2 years were great and I was happy with my weight loss. After that, for the past few years I've been putting weight back on, so far nearly 50 lbs. I am seriously considering going to Mexico for the sleeve to bypass revision. Has anyone else had this surgery? What was your experience? Were there any hidden fees for revision surgery? Thanks all!
  16. when doing bypass revision how long so you stay in the hospital!!!
  17. I had surgery in 2006 and lost 280 pounds over all over the course of six years… In the past three years I gained back 90 pounds… Last year I had an endoscopy and upper G.I. and they discovered I had a hiatal hernia and some staple adhesions… And recommended a revision… The surgeon I went to told me that he could leave the new smaller stomach and they now remove the excess old stomach… They no longer leave your stomach in there or he doesn't… And doing my research I understood a revision patient usually loses 2 to 3 pounds a month… My doctor said when he got in there… He found a fistula which was a complication from the first surgery which most likely cause my weight gain… A week after surgery… Today I got on the scale and I lost 13 pounds… Was totally shocked and not expecting that so I am wondering since I had that fistula this new revision is kickstarting my weight loss and I will see great success question? Anyone that had a revision care to share their weight-loss story with me after the revision Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I spoke to the doc's insurance person last Tuesday - so assuming she sent in my information by Wednesday - I was approved on Friday -- and she called me this morning! 3 days = surreal. 1st available surgery date is Aug 31st -- however I am scheduled to go to a conference (in Vegas) the week of 9/13-15 -- is that doable??? (not worried about not being able to eat, as I can back my Protein drinks and instant Soup.) OR should I ask for a date after the conference? WOW Donna Metro DC area Banded 7/07 and soon to be Sleeved !!
  19. Great topic! I am in the hospital right now with a bypass revision from the sleeve. The recovery, thus far, is a Little rough! Thanks for posting questions.!
  20. i had a terrible experience with the band as well. I'm 2 weeks post revision to RNY and and I am mad at myself for not doing this years ago.

    Revision Questions

I had the lap-band (2006) and revised to SIPS just six days ago. I’m down ten lbs and glad to have that awful band out of me. So far, I’m glad that I made the decision to revise. There are others on here that are much further out and have had wonderful success, but they put the work into it.
  22. Thanks guys..........just to clarify......had band removed 7 years ago... Am headed to Mexico for my Sleeve and noted on a Docs website that Revision surgeries are at higher risk of having to go Open surgery. Am just trying to get a real world feel of how often the Revision Sleeve Surgery turns into an Open surgery. At 59 years Old................I don't NOT want Open surgery.
  23. I have united heathcare insurance after my deductable i paid about 1251.00 out of pocket. There was no requirement but to pay deductable i went from the band to the sleeve revision
