    Not Enough Protein=Nausea?

I am getting my protein in by shakes, I also have Fage Greek yogurt. It has the most protein. I was concerned about weakness as well (2weeks out) and the surgeon said it may be the rapid weight loss that is causing that. For me cold smoothies or shakes go down better and also the sf carnation instant breakfast.

    Happy Valentine's Day

I don't even have a sweet tooth anymore. I didn't much have one before surgery either. I might consider some SF Jello pudding or Yoplait yogurt with some fat free whipped topping ,,, or not. I have the remains of a ribeye in the fridge and it will take me a week to eat it. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

    is this possible?

I wasn't on liquids or mushies on day ten either. I was on soft proteins, though. That is what my doctor advises. So I could eat eggs, chicken, turkey, cottage cheese, refried beans and low fat/low sugar yogurt. I would be really careful about what you are eating because your band sight is healing and you need it to heal really well because you are going to need it for a long time and don't want to mess anything up. For me, restriction varies from day to day and also at different times of the same day. But please be really careful! Try to eat only soft foods. And try to concentrate on protein.
  4. You shouldn't be letting other people decide what your tastes are - Protein shakes vary all over the map in taste and texture; what's yummy to you may be ghastly to someone else. The important thing is to get in the protein that you need. To me, variety is a key, and I was lucky to be able to tolerate a variety of protein rich foods early on so that I wasn't overly dependent upon any one tiring source. Greek yogurts are a good protein source at around 10g per 4oz serving while standard yogurts are about half that - I would get awful tired of yogurt if it were my primary protein source, not to mention that I don't get along well with plain yogurt. I have used protein shakes for years and have evolved blends that work for me in providing a good level of protein and a pleasing taste; likewise with yogurts I have evolved blends that work for me - I find that the commercially available no fat yogurts are also sugar free and have a lot of artificial sweetener taste to them, and I don't care for the level of sweetness added to most products. So, I have developed my own blend of plain and sweetened vanilla greek yogurts (about a 3 to 1 ratio now) that works for me, particularly with some added fruit and nuts. Likewise with the protein shakes, they can be blended with fruit or other flavors to enhance them - I often add a little unsweetened cocoa powder to enhance the chocolate flavor and cut the sweetness of the protein powders. I also blend the Protein Powder and greek yogurt into sugar free pudding mix to make a protein rich snack. I haven't needed protein shakes to meet my protein goals since fairly early on but still use them at times for specific uses (usually strength training recovery, as they are a good source of rapidly absorbed protein) and because I like them (or at least my blends) and are part of the variety that I maintain. Do some experimenting and see what works for you!

    6Ounces Of Yogurt

At my 1 week post-op i asked my dr if i should be able to drink a whole 10oz protein shake and he said yes because it doesn't stay in your pouch, it moves through (which is why it's important to sip...not gulp). I remember my pre-op appt with my nutritionist and she emphasized "bulking up" yogurt later on bcuz yogurt would pass thru your pouch too.
  6. I'm still on full liquids and I am trying to come up with something that I might be able to get in my belly and feel ok . I am allowed to eat yogurt but not really a big fan of reg yogurt So has anyone ever tried frozen fat free sugar free yogurt? My nut said it was ok to eat apple sauce and cottage cheese since Tuesday I'll go on to the next stage but I still feel starving. I also had a few bites of mashed Potatos but didn't want To eat to much because she never said it was ok. So what do you all thing of the frozen yogurt do you think it might be ok

    Frozen fat free yogurt

I found that frozen yogurt made me feel sick after I ate it and I haven't tried it again. Maybe I ate too much? Maybe it was too sweet? Not sure, but make sure you limit yourself and don't overload your sleeve just because it is easy to eat. good luck--

    i just feel awful

I am 25 days post op. I lost 18lbs preop, 11lbs by 11 days postop and then bam... Stalled. I've lost 1.5lbs in 2 weeks. I am on full liquids consisting of 3 protien drinks and 2 yogurts a day. It's so disappointing to be on such a restrictive diet and not lose the weight. The nutritionist tells me it's normal. At this point, I regret having the procedure done.
  9. suzqlvp aka NEWBIE i couldn't successfully drink Protein Shakes til week 2. "if" i remember correctly, i had them for a couple of weeks. any time in the future, its ok to drink a shake to get some protein in - couldn't hurt unfortunately, i never get in 80 g of protein in now - more like 50-60 you won't have to have 80g of protein daily, but............its great to have that much. i've heard tell that if you have more than 40 g of protein at a time, the extra protein doesn't count, too much protein??? - sleevers, did i say that correctly??? am i mistaken? protein will always be the first thing you should intake w/your meals, and get as much in daily as possible. nut told me to have so much protein, i asked her if "normal" people eat that way too, she said, yes they "should" for soft foods i ate eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese - laughing cow cheese, baby bel cheese, for example didn't hear of any problems you were having, so sounds like things are going well for - WooHoo continued good luck

    6Ounces Of Yogurt

I don't know about the amount, but don't you love adding the protein in the yogurt and eating it in place of drinking a shake?

    I did it!!!

Surgery was Monday in Mexico, and after a few days of pain and suffering, I am back home and recovering. I did have some regrets after surgery, but im sure that is normal :001_tongue: Now i'm just working on the yogurt and chicken broth and juices, ready to get my energy back so i can get to exercising again! I hope that everyone is doing well!! Oh, and 7 lbs down in one week! Mostly Water weight of course but it is so nice to just see the scale go DOWN instead of up for once!! Jillian

This pre op diet is killing me

I did the pre-op diet for 2 weeks and yes by a certain point I had to make myself eat and drink. I had to do Protein shakes, sf pudding, light yogurt, Gatorade and Water. Not much variety there and everything was sweet. Maybe try spicing things differently for variety? I couldn't wait to get to the surgery date for it to be over but now I am on a week of 3 Protein Shakes a day and sf popsicles...lol Just keep your eyes on the prize and enjoy the weight you are losing as a by product of the pre-op diet...they are pounds that you are ahead of the game for after surgery. Good luck and hang in there!!

    Soft And Mushy Foods

My mushies were divided into two sections. Week three was greek yogurt (used hand blender to mince the fruit, and added fat free milk to thin it out) and low fat/cal cottage or ricotta. Week four was canned chicken or tuna. I mixed those with low fat laughing cow cheese, much better than mayo. For chicken and tuna my doctor said to weight them out to 3 oz.

    Cant Get In My Protein

At two weeks out my NUT was not worried about me getting in all my protein. I was lucky if I got in 20-30 grams a day at two weeks. It's more important to keep up your fluid intake and get in protein when you can. As you get farther out, you'll be able to add more and more protein in, especially with foods. I think it took me almost two months before I was getting in 60 grams of protein. Now, at three months out, I'm getting in 60-80 grams a day because you can eat more things heavier in protein like chicken, tuna, meats, cheeses, yogurt, etc. I also throw in a Quest or Simple Truth protein bar occasionally if I feel like I'm a little low on protein - especially if I am going to be working out later as I need the energy. While most protein bars also have higher carbs, they are okay in moderation especially if you are going to be active.
  15. I am on my puree foods step and I couldn't be happier!!! The 2-weeks of shakes were HELL for me! I just wanted to eat something! Of course the shakes made me full, but it didn't stop my cravings. I finally had my post-op appt yesterday... they said I could move on to the next step and I am so excited! I don't know how I made it through those 2-weeks of shakes, maybe I have more willpower than I thought. Anyways, I had some ricotta cheese and sauce last night and it tasted like heaven. When the dietitian told me my portion sizes would be 1/4 cup, I thought "YEAH RIGHT!" - but it actually filled me up! I even had some Greek yogurt yesterday and savored every spoonful. I am just so happy I can start to eat actual food and not dread my meal times. Or course I am still drinking shakes to get in Protein, but now I can add extra things to make it taste better. My personal favorite--chocolate shake with PB2 (powdered peanut butter), and 1/4 cup of banana--soooo damn good! I am so happy I went through with this procedure! I was having some doubts along the way, but nothing good ever comes easy, and this process is NOT easy! I know I am going to run into more obstacles along the way, but I'm heading in the right direction and just need to stay on track!

    Fruit?

Thank you, Berry! I was doing yogurt but can no longer take the taste of artificial sweeteners even Stevia. I liked cottage cheese as a kid. Maybe I can tolerate it now. You’re right. I need to keep experimenting. If you think of anything else, I welcome your ideas and tips.
  17. So today is day 4 for me post-op. My doctor limits my consumption to only clear liquids, which I could not be more sick of! I'm hungry and feeling a little down today. I don't really have a reason for posting other then that. lol - pretty selfish, right? I would give just about anything for some yogurt or eggs!

Am I Being A Pig Already?

Early on after surgery, (although I am still less than 3 months out) I ate a fat free light yogurt. The whole thing! It FREAKED ME OUT! But then later I read about slider foods. They do go down easy for me. So I am careful with those. My NUT was surprised that I had no problem drinking my Protein drink in one setting. It's not like I guzzle it! But it seems to go down just as easy as Water. However it is different with meats. For me, it is important to weigh my foods and count calories and keep a log of what I eat. I started it before I had surgery and I will always do it now. It's habit. So I am on MyFitnessPal.com every day. Keeps me on track. And everyone and every surgeon/NUT is different. I was told to get in between 70-80 grams of protein a day. So that is what I do. I think you're doing fine. However, for me, it seems your protein level is to low. BUT, you gotta do what your NUT says and what is comfortable for you.

Am I Being A Pig Already?

I'm the same. Liquids go down really easy. That includes pureed/liquified foods. I can eat 4oz probably 6oz if I tried of yogurt. I'm almost 3 weeks out. I really trying not to push myself though. Even though I know I can eat more of these mushee foods I try to limit myself at one sitting. Something I noticed I can't eat really is mushy potatoes. One or two bites and it makes me full. So I think once I go to dense proteins, I will feel restriction. As it is now, I usually feel very little restriction.

    Losing Too Much Weight

I have finally gotten the weight loss to slow down. I think eating purposefully around the clock helped. I also purposely eat higher calorie carbs that get calories in and don't make me feel as full for as long. The crazy thing is it's the exact opposite of what we should do during the weight loss phase. The carbs I have are 1/3 cup of granola cereal over yogurt or mixed with 1/3 cup milk. It gives me around 150 calories and then I can eat yogurt, an egg or 1-2 oz. of meat 45 minutes later. If i only eat meat and veggies I am too full to get in other foods and only get 1000 calories max. I was loosing on that and wanted to slow it down. Granted I am not eating ice cream and cookies but still high calories and carbs and it does worry me that this could cause issues but mentally i still feel like eating is a chore and if I could I wouldn't eat a fraction of what i am now . I am hoping as I can tolerate more volume i can make healthier choices. I also can eat a 230 calorie packet of Bevita breakfast bars in under 10 minutes and eat again 45 minutes later. I have managed to get in 1400 calories the past 2 weeks. I also drink 2% milk and cook my spinach and egg in olive oil, and eat a Tbs of peanut butter, and have a RX bar during the day just to get extra calories.
  21. Check your Protein powders. I had violent diahrea from around day 10 post op. I discovered that the Protein powder that I was using was the culprit. I had to switch to Muscle Milk Light in the ready to drink because it was lactose free. After a few weeks I was able to tolerate the Optimum Nutrition powder again. I still used unsweetened soymilk or almond milk. I do fine with yogurt, cheese etc. Good luck!

    Yogurt ((GROSS))

I hate the texture of cottage cheese, but can eat it after I run it through the food processor or blender & add in something to it. I love yogurt, though, so I guess I'm OK with smooth.

    2 weeks post op

I weighed in for week two and I'm at 288. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little let down since its only a pound, but I'm also not surprised. I've been having a hard time adjusting to eating on a schedule and eating consistently. It seems like my metabolism has completely shut down, which makes sense. The other thing is that I haven't been active at all. Between school through the week and work all weekend I've been giving myself an awful lot of excuses to not work out. I have a treadmill so at the very least I can be doing that. Hopefully I can settle into some sort of routine. No pain or discomfort at all this week. I have noticed I keep feeling my port. I don't know if its just a nervous habit to run my hand over it or the sheer fascination of being able to feel this strange object in my body but I do it a lot haha. My appetite is back, but still in a strange way. I'm having a really hard time trying to tell if I'm hungry or if I have the urge to eat. The urge to eat (and overeat) is in my head. Other than knowing its 'time' to eat, or knowing that i need to eat something I'm not sure if I'm feeling hunger. But when I do eat, I want to eat a lot. I've been trying to limit myself and have been doing a decent job but I definitely need to drinking my shakes more. I've ventured into new territory with my soft foods, I've been making chicken salad and chicken with bbq sauce. Does anyone else feel like by the time they add all the stuff to make it 'soft' they've added a ton of calories? I've been using miracle whip instead of mayo (which kills me lol), and substituting Greek yogurt in anything I can get away with (because it still tastes like sour cream), but still- it adds up. Any tips? I haven't really pursued vegetables except for potatoes (again-super starchy! help!), but thats on the to-do list for this week. In other fun news, I just booked my first real vacation ever! I'm going to North Carolina in May when school lets out to visit my best friend. I'm so excited because I feel like that's enough time to make a big difference. Since she doesn't see me everyday, it'll also be interesting to see her reaction. Plus ya know, beach ocean swimsuit blah blah blah. Should be quite an adventure!

    Yogurt

I put yogurt with milk in the blender and made a shake. I could use regular yogurt, not Greek cause it is too thick.

    Yogurt

Get a low sugar Greek yogurt, blend with Fairlife milk. If you're in the South, Publix has a great yogurt smoothie called B'More. I love those. Sent from my Nexus 6P using the BariatricPal App
