Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Help with soft food start
mark74 replied to Nicole711's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure you could contact the doctors office and they could help you. My soft foods didn't include tuna chicken or deli meats. Just eggs cottage cheese beans canned fruit with no skin as long as it was in its own juices -
Help with soft food start
Sloane replied to Nicole711's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start soft foods tomorrow....My information packet from my nutritionist has these foods listed (eat at your own peril)... Canned fruits packed in juice, not syrup...peaches, pears, fruit cocktail Canned vegetables - green Beans, carrots, peas, etc. Baked potato (no skin), crackers, hot Cereal, Pasta (?) its on the list... Fish - canned or fresh (nothing fried, no shellfish) Soft mild cheeses, cottage cheese, yogurt eggs Tofu -
take your time eating. when i first started on full solids, my first meal was a scrambled egg with cheese. I could only eat half the egg, and it was a very strange feeling to eat the solid food. My stomach made such noises!!! Eat it slowly, chew it well and wait a bit between bites. if you try to eat it "normal" you will probably get sick. The Cheese for most people isn't a problem at all. Good luck!

I used pure protein plus from Sam's Club before preop diet. On my preop diet I used bariatric advantage orange creme and banana flavors, they were pretty good. Now I am back on the pure protein plus. The nutritionist has us mix them with milk instead of water. It's more feeling and tastes better.

My pre-op diet wasn't perfect either. But post-op is a different story altogether as you are *physically* not able to 'cheat'. After surgery, my body was completely disinterested in regular food and it was a challenge to get down the fluids and Protein you're expected to. You will be primarily focused on that and on healing.

When will this get better?
bellabloom replied to acbayliss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
By day five I felt a lot better, you should be close soon. Take your meds and don't worry about eating right now!!!!!! Your probably realy swollen so trying to drink your food will (could) make you feel much worse. Measure out 1 tblsp of liquids per two hours!!! Seriously that's it for this stage. Some people can do more but not me and it was key to feeling better For the first week I craved food a lot. That goes away I promise. The pain is much better by 2 weeks out You won't regret you did this -
@ proud Grammy Hi! Yes I've had my VSG surgery on Dec 2. I feel super! I'm still on phase 2 diet no biggie though, I'm not eating much as it is so pure is just fine lol Glad your having a great year!

I bought $10 worth of baby food. Only attempted to eat one --- and donated the rest to a food drive. It was NOT for me.

Need some ideas! Please!
Marathongirl replied to Marathongirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How about a Protein drink with some extras mixed in? Peanut Butter, etc. It'll be healthy and give you protein and should be over 350. Well, I thought about that. However, my surgeon doesn't want me drinking any Protein drinks, because they are not solid food. And, my psychiatrist told me it should be solid food. A Protein Drink would be so much easier though! -
And I am so thankful! I have lost 75 lbs so far and I would like to lose another 30 but I'm not pressuring myself.... I went from a 22/24 to a 14/16. I never thought I would get down to this size and there are some 16 jeans that are already too big! I workout 2-3 times per week and I mix my workouts up between kickboxing and the elliptical. The support between family and friends is unbelievable. My favorite is when people Who I've known for a long time walk by me and don't know who I am.... dde00 My biggest piece of advice is don't pressure yourself... If you've been cleared to eat regular food and you're craving something... Like pizza or ice cream or chocolate, Have some but a very small piece... It will curb the craving And then you can eat something high in Protein And not obsess over that food that you wanted so bad. Here is a pic of me the day of surgery and one taken about a month ago... As you get to eating more solid foods, you will start to feel it more. When you are on liquids, purees, soft mushies etc. you tend not to feel any restriction. That is why following your nutritionists guidelines while your insides are healing up is so important.

I think I just had my first dumping experience last night. I am 15 days post-op, and I just got the OK to go to soft foods yesterday. I tried some boiled egg (half at a time) earlier in the day and it went great! For dinner, I tried 2 ounces of tilapia. After 1.5 ounces, I was full and quit. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks - I felt sick. I felt totally miserable and wanted to die. I felt like I had to throw up, but didn't. I tried laying down, walking around, sitting, standing - nothing made me comfortable. This morning, I woke up feeling better, but my stomach is sore. I feel totally guilty, like I totally screwed up. I am hoping I didn't do irreparable damage to my sleeve! But the rational side of me said this is probably just a "dump" - the first of many I might have in the course of this sleeve - and that it was bound to happen at some point. Hope it never happens again, but I know it just might....

We went camping last weekend, and I had some emotions creep in that I was not expecting. It was our first camping trip since I had been banded, and it was not centered around food or snacking. I was still on liquids, so it probably was not the best timing to go camping. Anyway, it reminded me of when someone dies and you have that whole first year to go through of holidays, etc...without that person and the feelings and emotions that come up. With the holidays coming up and so many of us new at this, I am hoping some of you "old timers" will share your "first" experiences, if it created any emotions, feelings, what was different, etc..

The camping trip truly got my attention early and I want to be more emotionally prepared for other first.

Wanda

11 months out and not happy :(
brendaziranda replied to brendaziranda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I went into surgery I was 221 and went down to 181 but now I've been gaining I'm at 190 I take 80-90g of protein a day I walk and do Zumba and also I weight my food I eat 6 oz a meal I Really don't know what's going on I'm trying my best what else can I do -
I'm going to start by saying I'm a pretty private person outside my close knit of girlfriends/husband. I find myself on this website more often and with yet some hesitation I feel somewhat comfortable to "speak out loud" here - clear my head some then maybe be done with it. I was not always heavy, when I got married 7 years ago I was 120lbs - and life was GREAT! My husband and I were very successful *DINKs* (dual income no kids), we were extremely social - more so than most, entertainly weekly / monthly etc. I'm a "non practicing chef" (had high tech job -then) but as a trained cook, I cooked for friends and family nightly. I enjoyed it ... still do. 3yrs ago life threw my husband and I a curve ball both personally & professionally. Life sucked, but as many here can attest, food DID NOT. We both packed on the lbs, with too much food & drink..and in the process we discovered who was and was not our friends. Tough pill to swallow, I'm the type to do things for others with no expectation of a return of a favor, we had a major blow to who would turn their back on us... SO, we made a discision to pack it all up and bought a ranch an hr away from the city to clear our heads and get back on track. My husband and I decided Lapband was for us & had the surgery 2 months ago together., I figured we got fat together lets get back skinny together. He's my rock & best friend! We have told No One about our surgery, his choice orignally... now mine. So the holidays are coming up and the invites for cocktail parties & such are flooding in. I don't want to go to a single one of them (husband is indifferent - could care less...but also travels for work, good excuse). I don't want to see a single person till my fat A$$ is back being a size 4/6. Friends have told me the comments made about my husband and self about how "FAT" we had gotten..blah,blah,blah. I have learned some tuff lessons the last 3 yrs & if I have 2 friends VS an army of social butterflies who say they are , I am fine with that. I'm not sure where to take this rant - and it is one. I appreciate the opportunity to blab it here, cause I can't do it anywhere else. I might be one of the few people to be glad to have gotten fat, cause I've learned humilty, and what it's like to be humbled. Lapband, is going to teach me to be a "better / kinder" skinny bitch in the future, ... Lulu

I have been told several times that Chicken is one of the foods that most banders have problems with. It tends to get stuck.
-
Is the scratchy feeling only from chicken and turkey? Or, do you have a sore throat after eating other foods as well?

While trying to lose weight I ate between 900 - 1000 calories for 2 years. I did not increase my calories to 1200 until the last 30 lbs and I needed the extra calories for working out and doing strength training. Not to be critical, I do not think a DQ Blizzard is on our list of healthy choices. While trying to lose weight high calorie deserts and food choices should be avoided, try a healthy alternative a banana or apple. I know boring but you have to decide what you want to lose weight and be healthy or to continue to eat the same garbage that brought you to this site. I chose to eat healthy and it pays off and so did Floridays. You can't lose the amount of weight we have lost and continue to eat the same way. Get over the guilt and tomorrows another day.

Why do post-op diets vary so much??
crzytchr replied to 1RockinMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was allowed mushies on day 8 and by day 14 regular food. I am doing fine and haven't had any problems. Each doctor is different, I guess. -
Post Op Diet Reminder
TijuanaPlication replied to Lmom1980's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Didn't your doc send you home with enough pain meds? I'd try and continue with what he prescribed until you can eat normal foods. Like FatToPhat said, I'd act as though I'd had the full plication again foodwise. Long term NSAIDs are fine after plication. You can't have them after RNY ever. I had sublingual painkillers for the first few weeks post op, so I'd check with your surgeon if they're OK before you're allowed solids (you don't wanna mess up your revision). -
What Were You Eating A 4 Weeks Post Op?
lessofmeismore replied to lovex5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just transitioning from creamy/purees to mushy food at 4 weeks. Its hard to say what you can or cannot eat because everyone's diet is so different post op. I would stick with mashed potatoes, soft vegetables etc. I'm not sure at 4 weeks u will be able to handle turkey. Best of luck!!!
